Shopping local has never been more important By BELINDA HARRISON
WITH the current COVID-19 restrictions and the difficulties in crossing the Victorian/NSW border or entering Melbourne and Mitchell Shires, it’s more important than ever that we take the opportunity to shop local and support local businesses. With almost 50 locals showcasing themselves and their businesses in our Know Your Local feature, you’re sure to ‘find yourself
a local’ for whatever you need. “Small towns and communities have so much to offer when compared to their city counterparts and Wangaratta is well-placed to thrive if we all come together during these uncertain times,” Wangaratta mayor Dean Rees said. “Shopping local and supporting local families benefits us all and ensures we can continue to offer unique and diverse products not only to others
in the area but visitors as well.” Solicitor Owen Webb of Webb Legal P/L is one local who, like many others, was born and spent a portion of his youth in the Wangaratta area, moved away to study before returning to the country air and vibrant local community. “The climate and closeness of family was certainly a factor that drew me and my wife to move here,” Owen said. “My parents have a farm here and
I attended Thoona Primary School before moving to Melbourne for high school and university. “After our son, Angus (now 16) was born, Tracy and I decided to move as we felt Wangaratta would offer us a better lifestyle and was the best place to bring up our son. “We love it here, the weather is better than Melbourne and even though the mornings are colder and foggier in winter, we seem to enjoy more sunshine during the day.” continued page 3
