Getting together THE Bright U3A moved into their new premises at the Bright Senior Citizens Centre last month, using the facilities in conjunction with the Bright Senior Citizens Club in a move supported by both groups. The U3A Bright District moved into the centre on February 27, around a year after they began looking for larger facilities, according to Bright U3A president Marianne Dredge. “The response from the shire and the senior citizens group has been overwhelmingly collaborative and

According to Ms Dredge, the Bright U3A has grown to 217 members. Mr Hopper, Bright Senior Citizens Club president, said the co-tenancy agreement was a natural fit as the U3A had expanded while the senior citizens club had shrunk. “Our membership is diminished down to about 35-40 members,” he said. “It’s very small and it’s a much older group. “The suggestion that U3A move in as co-tenants was an opportunity for the seniors to feel we can

continue with our program.” Earlier this year, representatives of the three Alpine Shire U3As branches - Mount Beauty, Bright and Myrtleford, met in Bright to share ideas and discuss ways to expand and enrich the courses and programmes offered to members. According to Ms Dredge, the gathering was so successful they decided to meet twice a year, with Henry Ziemnicki from Mount Beauty U3A arranging the next meeting in September.
