BRIGHTER DAYS FESTIVAL RAISES A WHOPPING $825,000 TO AID THREE CHARITIES By MARTIN DAVIS THE Brighter Days festival, held in Bright over the March Labour Day weekend, raised a record amount of $825,000 for charities. Thousands of people booked the town out for the three-day festival, which featured performances from X Factor winner

Reece Mastin, Thirsty Merc and APRA award winner Vanessa Amorosi. Brighter Days festival vice president Jason Reid said an anonymous $250,000 donation had helped reach the monster amount raised, which will see around $275,000 donated to the three charities of DEBRA Australia, EB Research Partnership (Australia)

and The Cooper Trewin Memorial SUDC Research Fund. DEBRA Aus and EB Research Partnership (Australia) are volunteer-based organisations that work to support those who suffer from the rare skin disease Epidermolysis Bullosa with medical supplies, aids, equipment and assistance with the transition to independent living

and research focusing on the different aspects of the disease. “These funds will help a lot of on the ground nursing staff and more bandages for people suffering with EB and also with lots of the money going into research to find a cure for the disease,” Mr Reid said. He is looking forward to future festivals, with the Alpine Shire recently announcing the Bright-

er Days festival will continue on the Labour Day weekend. “We are locked in for the long term and we are going to aiming for the magic million, which is our goal from now on to donate that amount every year,” Mr Reid said. “This amount is a massive achievement for a small country town, we are extremely proud of what we have achieved.”
