Our Autumn delight THE Autumn trees have been preparing their leaves in beautiful colours this week, in the lead up to the return of the Bright Autumn Festival after two years of cancellations. The last festival ran in 2019 before the COVID pandemic hit and committee president Brendan Holland said he had mixed feelings about being back but was very excited to see the event return. “It’s been good to see events happening around

town and this one coming back; there’s always an anxiety about COVID cancelling us again but we’re excited and relieved to be putting it on,” he said. “A long with that worry, a couple of our committee members passed away dur-
ing that time so that’s been sad and we’re doing something to acknowledge their contribution at the festival. “The biggest difference this year will be the markets moving down to Pioneer Park. “The street parade at 1.45pm will remain, and in place of the market stalls there will be some fun runs and other activities around Ireland and Anderson streets as well as
music and entertainment. “We’re hoping to create a different atmosphere for something new. “The open gardens will be back with about 14 gardens which are always fantastic; they put on a great show, the historical society tours will be on, the Bright Singers are back and the Bright Art Gallery has its exhibition. “We’ll be having a welcome to country and smoking ceremony this Friday at
Howitt Park, we’ve done it before and think it’s a really special thing to be adding to the festival. “That will be followed by an exhibition at Alpine Light Gallery of their favourite autumn works, across the road from the park. “We’ve also partnered with a local who has some technology to live stream the parade itself so people who can’t attend will be able to watch; keep an eye out on
