DUMU Cafe trainees Kylie Mardigan and Clare Parmbuk were busy wrapping presents with sustainable paper last Friday, all part of the cafe’s efforts to help those in need this Christmas. Cafe volunteer Sue Ronco is reminding those who may be struggling this Christmas that food and Christmas gifts for children are available in the cabinet beneath the stairs. “All they need to do is come along and take it,” she said. “We just want more people to know that that’s available and they don’t need to be embarrassed,” she said. Ms Ronco also encouraged donations of food to the cafe or the food cabinet to help those who are less fortunate. Ms Ronco is also the Future Healthy coordinator, running a series of workshops at the cafe that promote healthy food choices and explore how people experience cultural identity through food. So far they have run a sushi fusion workshop and another on indigenous cooking.

culture, that was great, because they asked a lot of questions and really wanted to know more about what we do,” she said. The next workshop is planned to be about Slovenian cooking

COMBINED churches in Bright and surrounds are holding a free lunch for local residents from 12-2pm on Christmas Day in the hall behind the Bright Uniting Church on Ireland Street. Organiser Henry Martin said the lunch is for people, or couples, from across the shire who find themselves alone on Christmas. “Anybody with no family or friends around at the moment come along and enjoy join us,” he said. According to Mr Martin, the lunch has been running for 12 years and usually has around 50 attendees. Options are available for vegetarians. “We normally have a pretty good spread,” he said. Mr Martin also thanked the donors who provide food, including Christmas puddings. Bookings are essential - contact 5956 2898.
