NEWLY elected president of the Bright and District Chamber of Commerce, Scott Brandon, said the chamber is focused on developing yearround visitation to stop problematic peaks and troughs for local business. According to Mr Brandon, the chamber is planning to further encourage year-round activities such as mountain biking, cycling, trail running and paragliding. “A key focus for us is getting a sustainable tourism business model where the town's not inundated too often, but it's consistently busy on a regular basis,” he said. “Businesses can plan for that and staff accordingly. “It’s a much more sustainable model than having crazy busy weekends, where the town is inundated one day and it's empty the next...that's the last thing we want.” Mr Brandon is the owner of the Bright Brewery, and has previously served as president of the chamber. He said the chamber is developing strategies to deal with the key issues affecting business in the town, including staffing

shortages, and internet and telecommunications access. He also said the Mystic Mountain Bike Park is a key asset for Bright and wants the park to continue to operate. At the chamber’s annual general meeting in August members voted to elect Mr Brandon as president. Marcus Warner, from Pepo Farms, was elected as deputy president, while Ally Wilson, director of a local accounting firm, was re-elected as treasurer. Newly elected secretary Juliana Thompson, co-owner of an accommodation property in Porepunkah, said she stood for the role because she wanted to be more active in the community after recently purchasing her business. Outgoing acting president David Chitty said the new board will bring new ideas and opportunities for the community, while former members of the executive will remain active in the chamber. He said Bright Chamber of Commerce is assisted by a paid administrative officer, helping make it a particularly professional organisation and one of the most effective in regional Victoria.
