Getting the signal HARRIETVILLE is soon to get a television upgrade, thanks to the work of the Harrietville Television Committee and an Emergency Recovery Victoria Grant. The repeater station, situated in a hut near the Cavalier Spur track, is currently undergoing upgrades to replace ageing equipment and will soon be transmitting a signal up to 10 times stronger than it was previously, according to Harrietville TV Committee

Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST), instead of subscribing to the committee’s transmission, but he said VAST doesn’t provide local services, such as WIN Television or Prime from Albury. “It doesn’t give you that community-feel local television,” he said. while it has also been subject to many lightning strikes. “There’s a 1.6 kilometre power cable which has been subject to a lot of lightning strikes and we’ve had to do repairs over the years to the power cable,” he said. “We’ve put other equipment in place to alleviate any lightning strikes in the hut area. “We’ve put a power conditioner in, which
switched on and off.” Mr Gardner said subscription to the service costs $50 a year for homes and $80 for businesses, which pays for maintenance and insurance. Subscriber John Gertsakis said the project was a credit to the Harrietville TV Committee and a positive step for the community. “If it helps upgrade the service that’s a really good thing,” he said.
