Our top bridal trends for 2023/2024 are simplistic gowns, gowns adorned with sparkles and glitter and coloured bridal gowns. Simplistic gowns with clean lines and thick luxe crepe fabrics are emerging again! The classic shapes such as a fitted v neckline gown, like our Wendy Makin Vika and our Anniston Marie by Maggie Sottero featuring a beautiful thick satin fabric in an A line shape with sweetheart neckline. Another popular style is the Maggie Sottero Ekaterina, with a gorgeous thick off the shoulder neckline and waist snatching bodice. Our top seller of 2023 so far is Clarity by Rachel Rose. These simplistic and timeless styles suit all shapes and size brides – we stock both these gowns size 6 to 30.
Next, we are seeing many brides show us their Pinterest boards filled with gowns featuring full sparkle or glitter, such as our Tatiana or Anniston by Maggie Sottero. These gowns look incredible at venues such as an outdoor winery with a heap of natural light.
And finally, the coloured bridal gown trend is crazing, and this is one of our favourites! The most asked for colours include blush or baby pink, black and lately red. Our Maggie Sottero range offers extensive coloured wedding gown options – my favourites are Watson in black, Alexandria in black and the gorgeous Aspen in black, red or blush.

A simple silhouette remains a strong influence.
Bridal trends for 2023 are mixed and varied due to a brides budget, wedding location, personality, figure and overall childhood dream of what they dreamt a bride would be.
Detachable sleeves and overskirts are on trend to give the bride the opportunity to stay in her gown all night but change her look. Magical, whimsical, sparkling and glitter are still strong. Onecolour palette of off-white in either silk, crepe or mikado in a simple silhouette are very strong.
The princess ball gown with a modern twist is going to be a favourite for many however every woman really wants to celebrate the best parts of her figure and feel totally confident in her gown. So it must suit her flare and her colour tone.
Beaded tulle and delicate layered embroidered laces will always be a favourite. The skirts will be fitted – A-line – and a soft flowing ball gown. The train is still on trend which is often tied into a bustle at the reception. The split on the leg is still strong and versions to be discrete.
Off-the-shoulder and shawl collars to open out the neckline, teamed with ball gown skirts, the deep neck plunge, with a low back to the waist will still be a favourite .
Any soft floaty sleeve long or short often with a cuff with the skirt fabrics of soft organza, layered tulles, embroidered laces alongside the favourite mikado giving the full body effect.
The tone of the gowns are either bridal off-white of warm honey / champagnes with ivory lace or embroidery overlays.
The bridal veil is still strong, not often worn over the face.
Pearls, lace appliqué or just plain tulle in the shade of the gown are favourites.
The second dress is still strong – to party in.
Ostrich feathers, faux furs will still be the jacket of choice.
Accessories are there to compliment the gown, hairstyle and look. Pearls and unique styles using crystal and diamantés will always be a favourite.

Bridal wear with a modern twist – Courtney Mason has developed a unique range of separates that can mix and match to suit your personal style.
Courtney Mason has created a classic and unique range of bridal separates with a modern twist that allow brides to choose pieces to create a gown that reflects their own personal style. Currently there are more than 50 combinations available – creating endless options for any bride.
After finding herself unemployed due to Covid-19 lockdowns and the film/TV industry shut down, Courtney collaborated with Kristy Wynack, the owner of local Embrace Bridal Boutique. Having worked with Kristy performing wedding dress alterations over the past few years, the pair began work on developing designs to fill a niche market gap. And so Maisey Bridal Couture was born.
Made locally in Geelong, Maisey Bridal Couture has a much shorter make time. If fabrics and materials are in stock your outfit can be made within 6-8 weeks.
During the designing and planning process Courtney sourced all fabrics and materials within Victoria. Given our insecure times she wanted to ensure she isn’t relying on materials coming from overseas and that everything is readily available.

Do plenty of research. Come with plenty of photos and ideas as it helps get across the visual goal you’re trying to achieve.
Pick something that complements your bodyshape. Ensure to try on a range of gowns so that you know what works on your body and what doesn’t. If you have a certain dress style in mind, make sure to try on something close to it so you know if you like it or not.

Brittany and Jeremie met on Bumble! and had their first date at the Beresford, a bar in Sydney. Brittany was on a night out for a girlfriend’s birthday and Jeremy was having a few drinks with his housemates. Throughout the night they met up, got along well and danced, with more exciting dates following.
The couple have been through some trials too, such as having a long-distance relationship for a year as Jeremie moved back to Melbourne for work (with Brittany joining him later) and spending 200-plus days together in lockdown. However they got through it all and happy days came as they bought their first house in Geelong.
It was before moving to the new house that Jeremie planned a very beautiful proposal. He set up their bare living room with a beautiful flower installation from Smellies Flowers in Geelong, placing it right in front of the stone fireplace. Brittany was thrilled at the beautiful creation thought out by Jeremie and obviously accepted his proposal.
Brittany loved every single step of the wedding planning as she is a freelance florist and has a keen interest in styling and design. For the venue, the couple chose Jack Rabbit Vineyard due to the stunning view and exquisite restaurant that gave them the idea of a modern romantic-style wedding. From then on the planning ran smoothly as the venue provided them with all the inspiration they needed, making it easier to choose their celebrant (Sue Warner), the dress (the first that Brittany tried on at And The Veil – ‘Snowflake’ By Rachel Rose) and the bridesmaids’ dresses (from the Bec and Bridge Wedding Suite) and the suits (M J Bale).
One of the most important wedding elements was the flowers and the tables, with Brittany having a definite look in mind. An unstructured, garden-like feel with lots and lots of flowers and minimal foliage; differing heights and levels; the ceremony installation moving from the ground up; large bouquets and clustered table flowers – this was the brief and Pomp and Splendour absolutely blew it out of the water.
The couple chose the music and acoustics from their experience at the two weddings they had been to the year before. Getting everyone in a good mood from the tunes was important to them. Brittany and Jeremie were also hands-on with the planning in terms of invitations, signage and name tags, which they designed and handmade themselves.
The delicious banana, chocolate and vanilla layer Bridie Bakes cake was enjoyed by 107 guests that came from all parts of Australia and from abroad, including France and Singapore. The most memorable moment was when Brittany arrived at Jack
Rabbit and popped into the venue whilst Jeremie and the guests were down on the helicopter landing pad. Seeing Jeremie all dressed up and waiting, amongst the flowers with family and friends, was such a beautiful and surreal moment that filled Brittany with excitement. Jeremie absolutely loved the first dance that they made up themselves with lots of practice as neither of them were experienced dancers.
Brittany and Jeremie’s advice to engaged couples? To take time to research and find the right team for the special day. The wedding should reflect a couple’s likes and interests so it ultimately shares the vibe of who they are as a couple.

Liz and Darcy’s first meet was not that of a fairytale and it happened in the early hours of one Saturday morning at the classy establishment of Lamby’s Tavern. They met again at a close friend’s wedding at Mt Duneed, where Darcy was the function manager for the wedding. It was not the right time either as Liz was in a relationship. Eventually the timing was right and they got together seven years before their wedding. Darcy proposed at Henschke Winery in South Australia in 2021 - literally in the middle of the vineyard. Liz had planned a belated birthday present as a tour and tasting of Darcy’s favourite wine. She had no clue of what was about to happen, all she could tell was Darcy seemed very strangely nervous (certainly not a common trait). As they headed to the Hill of Grace Vineyard on a private tour to taste some of the best wines, Darcy dropped to his knee in the middle of the vineyard as the sun shone through. Of course, the answer was yes and in all that excitement they created their little bundle of joy William. The wedding planning process was quite simple, largely due to Mt Duneed and to the amazing event planner Keeley. All was going smoothly until there was an interesting twist, one week before the wedding. The Day on the Green decided to reschedule a Rod Stewart concert to the same night as Liz and Darcy’s wedding. Whilst initially they were uneasy about how it would all work, the managers and Keeley at Mt Duneed went above and beyond to accommodate both the 110-guest wedding and the concert and still managed to create the best day of their lives for Liz and Darcy.
Inspiration sources were Pinterest and help from friends with experience. They settled for a bold pop of colours including dark burgundy, peaches and sage. It was initially set to be an outdoor wedding but the weather was not on their side and had to be moved into the Barrel Hall. The table seating was simple, moody, rustic – brought to life with foliage, gorgeous sage signage and graphics and candle lights. For the guests, Liz and Darcy wanted to create a mix of standing and sit down (standing entrées/canapes followed by sit down mains). They had people from all over the world and interstate who had not seen each other for a while, so it was a special catch-up for many.
For the dress, Liz had no idea what she wanted and had picked one place – Soho Bride, Newtown and took her bridesmaids along. She was also a little nervous due to being four months post-partum and was not sure what would look good. Fortunately, the Ada dress Liz chose was just her. Elegant but with a pop of fun due to the sleeves and the V-neckline. The shoes were Loeffler Randall with a comfort level of 10/10. The earrings were from a.b.ellie, a stunning statement piece offered by the bridesmaids as a gift.
Darcy had always wanted a 3-piece navy suit and the ties he chose matched the bride’s makeup – they looked absolutely gorgeous together. There was more than just one memorable moment – Liz walking down the aisle and seeing Darcy holding their son William at the altar – it felt like time stopped for a moment. Having all their loved ones in one space meant the world to this couple who loves get-togethers.

Charles Rose’s Geelong store and engagement rings have one quality that distinguishes it from the rest – longevity.
The company has been in Geelong for more than a decade –and will be for longer, says Director Marcus Rose. “It will never go because fine jewellers last a very long time.”
Jewellery has been in Marcus’s family for four generations. His grandfather and great uncle, Charles Rose, started as jewellers and master watchmakers in France, near the German border in the 1920s.
They died during World War II, so his father Frederick, also a jeweller, migrated to Australia as a 26-year-old in 1948.
Marcus developed a passion for his father’s business selling jewellery at Monash University in the early ‘70s. With Marcus’ son, Asher, taking a more prominent role in the business in recent years.
Now the specialist diamond house has a team of dedicated artisans producing work from the highest grade stones.
“Higher than any other brand in Australia, I would say,” Marcus adds.
“The better grades are much brighter and that’s the most important aspect of diamonds.”

Ashlee and Reuben met in high school in 2006 when Ashlee was in year 7 and Reuben was one of the ‘cool’ year 9 boys. Reuben proposed in January of 2021 when they were away for the weekend at Reuben’s grandparents’ farm, a place which holds a very special place in Reuben’s heart.
After a few days spent fishing and visiting wineries, Sunday morning had arrived and it was time to go home. They went for breakfast at Milawa Cheese Factory and Ashlee casually commented that he could have proposed to her that weekend. Before they left, Reuben asked if she wanted to do one last walk around the property and insisted on it despite the extremely hot weather. Ashlee was wearing an old T-shirt dress, work boots and a straw hat – a real vision, she thought.
They took a quick dip in the river and after popping their clothes back on, Reuben said "Hey Ash, you were right". As Ashlee turned around, she found Reuben on one knee with ring in hand. Ashlee was worried that the ring had been in the same shorts pocket that Reuben had just thrown on the rocks five minutes earlier – care free! She remembers Reuben saying " Are you going to say yes because my knee is burning on this freaking rock!"
Ashlee and Reuben had a two-year engagement and that was because they were specific with particular vendors they wanted to lock in early! Their absolute dream team of vendors was exactly what made the planning process so easy. The process was so easy that Ashlee found herself multiple times saying “Surely, I’m missing something? This is too easy and I’m too chill”. She relied heavily on advice from her vendors, used social media heavily for inspiration and became a little bit of a spreadsheet queen trying to stay organised.

Ashlee and Reuben had 115 of their closest friends and family at their wedding that travelled locally, interstate and overseas to make it.
The couple based their style inspiration – modern classic – from their venue, Barunah Plains, and worked around that. They did not really follow any ‘current trends’ because they wanted a wedding that they would look back on forever and would never date. For décor, Ashlee and Reuben chose a lot of black, whites and natural greens, a style which heavily complimented the green vines of the venue and their green, well-looked-after lawns. Their florist Annie from The Refined Bloom Co, who also was a guest at the wedding, was the couple’s style ‘guru’ for the entire process.
Reuben and the boys had ‘classic’ black, tailored suits with a ‘modern’ twist – on the outside the suits were classic black, however each groomsmen had individual custom lining on the inside of the jacket. The bridesmaids wore long, elegant, black crepe dresses that gave a much softer appearance than silk and complimented the boys’ black suits well.
The bride wore a Kyha Studios gown that was a classic ballgown shape yet had a square neckline and a cheeky leg split that gave an effortless modern spin on the Macpherson gown. Ashlee’s hair was a classic, low bun with a pearl clip, accessorised with pearl earrings and pearl heels.
There were two key standouts for Ashlee and Reuben. The emotion in their ceremony being one, as there was so much love in it that there wasn’t a dry eye! Second was their ‘dance floor vibe’ and seeing their guests on the dance floor. Ashlee later changed into her silk, feather wedding pyjamas and partied all night. Guests drank personalised cocktails, ate from delicious food trucks and danced their hearts out.
After the amazing experience, Ashlee and Reuben advise engaged couples to enjoy the process, remember why they are doing it and to keep in mind it is their wedding and nobody else’s. Everybody will always have an opinion but you’ll never get a 100% strike rate of impressing people – so don’t try!

Chloe and Chadé were both living in Auckland, New Zealand, when they swiped right on a dating app. They spoke every day for a couple of months whilst Chadé was travelling around NZ before meeting in person. One night they decided to meet up for a drink and have never looked back.
The proposal was a complete surprise and Chadé was the one to get down on one knee and propose. The initial plan was to surprise Chloe by proposing on their planned trip to the Amalfi Coast in Italy but due to Covid-19 they were not able to go. So instead on March 15, 2020, they went to visit Chloe’s family and went for a walk on Blackmans Bay beach, a spot Chloe cherished and loved as a child. Chadé proposed and both enjoyed the happiest day of their life – after the actual wedding day.
Chloe and Chadé had to reschedule their wedding a couple of times because of the pandemic so they had plenty of time to organise (almost two years). First they made a checklist of all the things they needed to plan and created a spreadsheet to keep track of things. They used a lot of social media sites to determine what elements they wanted to incorporate into their wedding. As the big day grew close, they delegated jobs to family members and friends to make things a little easier.
The couple opted for a small and intimate wedding with their nearest and dearest family and friends (50 guests). Chloe and Chadé were looking for a simple and elegant style for their wedding including soft and light tones to light up the space. They chose soft colours for flowers and also used greenery. Both outfits were designed by Anna Campbell. Chadé wore a stunning two-piece skirt and topper which had a striking open back with handembellished sequins. Chloe wore a classic gown with a gorgeous handmade embroidery piece on the low back.
Chloe’s most memorable moment was standing at the aisle next to Chadé holding her hands, smiling and giving each other a little wink and whispering to each other how beautiful one another looked. She loved listening to Chadé say her vows and being up there in front of their loved ones, sharing the moment and being present.
Chadé most cherishes the moment she was standing at the aisle hearing Vance Joy’s I’m With You and seeing Chloe walking down the aisle, thinking that she was the luckiest woman in the world. Their expectations of the day were simply having a great time celebrating with family and friends –which they did. They wanted it to be a laid back, light hearted and fun wedding – and so it was. Looking back on their wedding planning, Chloe and Chadé advise couples to never leave it to the last minute to book. A lot of talented photographers, celebrants, bands etc. might be booked out pretty far in advance, so it is preferable to get in early so you don’t miss out. The day should be about you and your partner having together a great time.

A day we will never forget. Clyde Park was the most incredible wedding venue and we are so glad we chose to have our wedding day there. The views alone were enough to blow all our guests away! But it was the generosity, friendliness, professionalism and amazing support that made our day so special. Planning our wedding during Covid-19 was a little stressful but the team made it so much more relaxing and were so accommodating to help take away all of that stress. We were both blown away with the amazing help of the Clyde Park team on the day. So many little touches throughout the day and night were so thoughtful and made our day go off without a hitch! And of course, the amazing food and drinks –all our guests went home very satisfied and so did we!

Ariahn married the boy next door. She and James formally met in high school but it wasn’t until he shed the ‘Ken Doll’ appearance and puberty hit in the form of a beard and long hair did they start to notice each other again and get serious in their early 20s. James is Ariahn’s best friend and she can’t believe she is lucky enough to be married to a man like him.
The proposal happened at Brae, Ariahn’s favourite restaurant in Birregurra. In October 2021 James simply got down on one knee after dinner and asked her to marry him. To Ariahn it was one of the most surreal moments of her life.
Ariahn and James discovered that planning a wedding is so much fun but can also be stressful. After going through the wedding planning process, she understands how the term ‘bridezilla’ came about. You cannot make it without being organised and getting a good team behind you. Ariahn’s dad used to say ‘just pay the man’ and that really helped her with all the decision making.
The couple had their wedding on the bride’s parents’ property in Marcus Hill. This meant they were able to invite everyone they wanted there. Both the bride and the groom have large families, so they eventually invited 170 people.

Styling the wedding was easy and so much fun. The team at Elderberry Events had a full warehouse to play with – colours and textures. Being such a wet summer (2022/23), the landscape of the farm was lush and green, so the décor was easy to create. As soon as the couple decided to have the wedding at the property, dressing the space was a lot of fun. Ariahn had always been a fan of dead or dried flowers, so they had them spread through the bouquets. She also loved the idea of having a big party, similar to a festival with food trucks and a big lit-up dance floor. Every little girl dreams of their wedding day and their beautiful dress. However, the style Ariahn thought she wanted verses the dress she chose were completely different. She thought she would choose something figure-hugging but ended up with a ‘manic fairy pixie’-type dress. The dress was off-the-shoulder and had a trumpet skirt with tulle overlay. The groom knew from the very start he wanted to wear all black with an open collar. Very quickly Ariahn and James decided the groomsmen would also wear all black, so it only made sense for the bridesmaids to wear all white.
The most memorable moment for Ariahn was seeing her future husband for the first time. Seeing him and his reaction to her is now burnt forever in her brain – it was just such an emotional and wholesome moment. They also had a fantastic photographer who took them off for some sunset photographs and afterwards encouraged them to take a moment and walk back to the party in their own time – something that Ariahn will be forever thankful for.
Being very new to the married life, Ariahn can share just one little pearl of wisdom – on your big day you should spend time with each other. Take a moment to soak in what you have just done and enjoy yourself. However, to be able to do so, find good vendors and listen to their opinion as they do this every weekend. Also, don’t hit the champagne too hard until after speeches – if you are tipsy before the speeches you will regret it.

Lanni and Rob are another example of ‘The modern love story’ (aka online dating). It took two months for the Rob to convince Lanni to meet in person when they met at a pub in Brunswick on a very warm day in November 2014. Lanni had her sister waiting in a car around the corner in case Rob wasn't what he claimed to be. Luckily Lanni texted ‘all clear’ pretty soon after Rob arrived.
The proposal was in January 2022 during the small Covid-19 surge after the New Year. Lanni and Rob had lived in Geelong a few months and had been in lockdowns or had plans most weekends and but didn’t have much time to enjoy the new area together. They went to Barwon Heads market in the morning as they wanted to do some more exploring in Geelong. On the way back from the market Rob suggested going to some wineries in the area, which seemed a good idea given they are mostly outdoor and the weather was nice-ish. The first winery they tried was closed. The second one they had a glass of wine and a cheeseboard but it was ‘too much like someone’s backyard’ for Rob’s liking. The 3rd to the 5th they tried were either closed or too busy. The 6th time was a charm and as the sun came out as they walked into Jack Rabbit Vineyard. They had a few glasses of wine and watched a wedding in progress. Just when Lanni was ready to leave, Rob suggested going for a wander around the grounds and looking over the view. Once they were away from everyone, Rob’s words were ‘Now I’ve brought you here under false pretences’ and got down on one knee with the ring box out. Obviously, Lanni said ‘Yes’.

Lanni and Rob did the bulk of the planning very early on. Within a few weeks they chose their celebrant, music/DJ, catering and photographer/videographers. For vendors and inspiration, they used social media, the wedding expo and magazines. They booked the Warehouse Geelong for the 85-guest event as it met all their criteria and was close to home.
Rob's mum Christine runs a wedding décor for hire business and was a massive help, paying attention to all the little details that the bride and the groom were not aware of. Their wedding style was rustic/Australian native/boho, as they wanted an event that was down to earth, relaxed and not too formal. They wanted lots of greenery with pops of colour and their outfits reflected the same style which was dressy but not too formal and with a relaxed flow.
Lanni wore a boho, flowy ivory dress with a loose chiffon skirt and an intricate beaded bodice. She chose purple shoes for a bit of extra colour and her hair was half up/half down with loose curls. Rob wore navy chino pants and a creamcoloured jacket with a white shirt and bowtie.
The most memorable moment was when they met on the aisle as neither of them had seen the other's outfit prior to the day. Lanni and Rob had an instrumental ukulele version of Sweet Caroline playing as the flower kids/bridesmaids/ bridesmen and the bride walked down the aisle – a feeling they will remember for a long time. Seeing their dog waiting at the end of the aisle with the groom's party was an extra special bonus.
Lanni and Rob are happy they got to eat and enjoy the party, when they have heard many people say they were too busy on their wedding day that they weren’t able to see everyone or try the food. They focused on eating, drinking, mingling and dancing all night, continuing the fun at an after party down the street. For those preparing to tie the knot, Lanni and Rob have a few words of wisdom. Pick the few things that are most important to you both and make those happen. Be ready to compromise on the small stuff. There is a lot of pressure from others of what they may expect for the event but only do the things you want to do. Your day should be all about what reflects you as a couple and not about pleasing family/friends.

Ashleigh and Chris met in 2016 at a bar in Richmond after an AFL game. They are both mad Melbourne Demons supporters and were commiserating over another loss with their separate groups of friends. Ashleigh noticed Chris was wearing a Melbourne scarf on the dance floor and they just started chatting about the game. As they say, the rest is history.
Chris proposed at Diamond Bay in Sorrento on a beautiful January afternoon. This place is really special to the couple as they used to spend a lot of time on the Mornington Peninsula. After the proposal on the beach, Chris had organised for their families to celebrate that afternoon, so everyone was in on the surprise, making the day one of the happiest of their lives.
Ashleigh is a very organised person so she and Chris set about doing the planning up front and booking vendors in as soon as they were engaged. This made the process much easier as they could sit tight knowing everything was organised for the big day. They fortunately had amazing vendors – all who provided guidance and support along the way and were easy to deal with. Their wedding coordinator Candice from Provenance Wines was instrumental in making their vision come to life and even became a friend of the bride and the groom.
The busiest period was around the month before the wedding where all the vendors required decisions and final details to be set in place. Ashleigh and Chris really put their all into planning every minute detail of the 120-guest wedding and they feel it really showed and paid off.
Ashleigh and Chris’s wedding style was moody and romantic. The ceremony space they had at Provenance Wines just oozed the right vibes and they were beyond happy that all their vendors nailed the brief.
In terms of outfits, Ashleigh and Chris are not formal people and wanted to feel comfortable and look great. Their rule was not moving too far away from who they are as people day to day.
Ashleigh had two dresses. Her first dress which she wore for the ceremony and some of the reception was a one-shoulder, Kyha gown with button detailing down the back. It was quite a simple dress but a beautiful pearl veil (also from Kyha) elevated the look. Later, Ashleigh did an outfit change into a very cool two-piece Scanlan Theodore gold sparkle set as the dancefloor started. The minute she saw it 12 months before, she knew she wanted it. Ashleigh wanted something that wasn’t white for her party dress and something that was fun and would allow her to get on the dancefloor. The outfit change was an excellent idea also because it ended up being 37 degrees on the wedding day. To be able to change into something lighter and cooler made a huge difference.
Chris’s and the groomsmen’s navy suits were from MJ Bale.
Ashleigh and Chris’s most memorable moment was having their Golden Retriever Ted attending their wedding. He is such a huge part of their lives and helped to make the wedding a little less traditional. He even made a couple of squeaks during their vows which made everyone laugh.
Ashleigh and Chris’s objective for the day was to enjoy their wedding as though they were guests. They wanted to minimise their time away from their guests and just really enjoy the day. They had a minute where the bride and the groom stepped away and just said to each other ‘Let’s have a mindful moment, how amazing is this day” – a memory they will never forget.
After the big day, Ashleigh and Chris have learnt that it is so easy to become swept up in the stress of the day. No matter what happens, keep telling yourselves what your wedding is truly about – you and your partner. Be present and soak it all in.

Finding your dream wedding suppliers can be a challenge as you want to ensure they are the right fit for you and your partner. Here is some advice on how to find that dream team that will work well together and understand your expectations.
k Begin by thinking back to any weddings you have attended or have seen on your socials that really grabbed your attention and reach out to these suppliers first.
k Then do your research. Begin by searching your social media using key words such as ‘wedding photographer’. You can also use Google maps to search businesses in your local area or the venue location.
k Assess whether you like the feel of their social media page or website? Do you like a certain wedding they have featured? Does their work fit in with your vision for your wedding?
k Email the supplier and introduce yourself. Handy tip: always put the date and your name in the subject box to make it easy for suppliers to remember who you are.
k In the email let the supplier know which images or weddings you loved of theirs as this is a great way to credit their work and show you are on the same page with your vision.
k Request their availability on your wedding date and if you could organise a call to understand more about their work. Or better yet if they are local you could organise to meet face to face.
k Have a list of questions ready prior to calling. It is always great to be prepared so as not to waste anyone’s time.
k It is suggested speaking to at least two suppliers and analysing which one you prefer. This way you can be confident you have found the right one.
k Discuss with your partner whether the supplier is giving you a great vibe and does it feel right? It is a great sign if you feel they are understanding your vision for your day.
k Once you have received their quote and happy to go ahead, pay the deposit required.
k Schedule any further meetings you will have to keep yourself organised.
k Once you have found one supplier, have a chat to them regarding other suppliers they recommend. This will make it much easier to find the rest of your dream team.

The Wedding Mentor was founded by Kayla back in 2022 after she had a challenging start to planning her own wedding.
With experience in event planning, it was important for her to plan her wedding without a professional wedding planner. However, she didn’t realise how overwhelming the process could be.
Kayla discovered the stress and overwhelm was coming from external advice, endless available options, financial constraints and her own internal pressures.
After many conversations, she identified she wasn’t alone, there was a need for a support service to help couples through the planning.
The Wedding Mentor’s mission is to support couples in planning and coordinating their dream wedding, with resources and mentorship to make the process enjoyable and seamless.
They exist to provide the space, advice, reassurance and tools for couples to plan their own wedding with the support of an experienced mentor so the lead-up to the wedding is as enjoyable and unifying as the big day itself.
Alex and Kristian met in 2018 through their role as charity ambassadors for Guide Dogs. After Alex promoted a Guide Dogs event on social media, she caught Kristian's eye. Kristian reached out claiming that he wanted to meet Alex’s Guide Dog in training, Lynney, but we now know that it wasn't just the puppy that he was interested in.
Kristian and Alex's first date (with Lynney in tow of course) was lunch at a restaurant in Melbourne which was then quickly followed one week later by a second dinner date where Kristian left his work bag at the restaurant, his jacket in the taxi and then lost Alex's purse, all in the space of 60 minutes. All items were recovered (along with Kristian's dignity) and after a fun (and eventful) evening, the rest is history.
Kristian proposed at Feathertop Winery in Bright, in Victoria’s High Country, on March 12, 2022, after being together for four years. It was the Labour Day long weekend and both Kristian and Alex’s families were staying in Bright for a few days. As Kristian walked Alex through the stone arch at the winery there was a beautiful semi-circle of green and white floral arrangements set up with the view of Mount Buffalo in the background (this would become the same location they would tie the knot a year later). Kristian got down on one knee (or almost threw himself down) and asked the question. A photographer was hiding in the corner taking photos of the whole thing.
Coming off the back of Covid-19, Alex and Kristian focused on locking in their major suppliers early so that they weren’t caught up in the pandemic backlog. The couple booked their venue (Feathertop Winery) only five days after becoming engaged and booked their photographer, videographer, celebrant

and florist about two weeks later. These were all locked in 12 months out from their wedding date. Next, hair and make-up were locked in and trials were done.
For her 120-guest list, Alex wanted a classic yet contemporary look, something that was elegant but not old fashioned. She also wanted her looks to be timeless so that in 20 years’ time she could look back at photos and not be horrified by the trends of the era.
Alex visited seven different bridal stores across two separate days in both Melbourne and Geelong. She loved so many of the dresses that she tried on but up until visiting And The Veil in Geelong she hadn’t felt like any were ‘the one’. It wasn’t until she tried on her ceremony dress at the final store that she had that special feeling – and no other dress could compare after that moment.
The ceremony dress was a made-to-order Stella York dress purchased from And The Veil. The Mikado fabric had a 3D sheen to it which gave the dress life. It had a subtle ballgown silhouette with an empire waist and an open, square back. There were buttons that ran all the way down the length of the train, and – Alex’s favourite part of the dress – pockets.
For the reception dress, Alex chose a dress by Rachel Gilbert as it was a little more dance floor friendly. It had a thigh-high split with a beautiful crystalembellished flower on the side and rouging down the front.
The wedding had too many memorable moments to choose just one. They both agreed that the beginning of the ceremony was a highlight where Alex walked down to an extended version of Songbird by Fleetwood Mac. Kristian, as expected, was quite teary.
Another highlight was having their beautiful dog Lynney as their ring bearer, carrying the rings down the aisle on her own. At the rehearsal the day before she uncharacteristically didn’t come when her parents called, so it was a bit touch and go on the day. Luckily she did beautifully and she even received a little treat from Alex (her dress had pockets) at the end of the aisle.
Alex and Kristian think nobody should sweat the small stuff. There is always something that won’t go to plan but couples should just have to roll with it. Chances are you will be the only one who notices if something doesn’t go right.

I’d rather talk about Star Wars, fantasy, and science fiction. I’m always searching for a great sci-fi series. There are some lame shows out there... But V Wars is interesting; Van Helsing... love! And how good was Shadow and Bone by the way? However, The X-Files is still the original and the best. I even have a vague nod to it in my logo. What?

The proposal of your dreams took your breath away, the families are excited and the wedding plans are underway.
