We’re on the hunt for Rhody Gems! Every neighborhood has that secret, hidden, cool and unusual, or hole-in-the-wall spot that locals love. Email or tag us on social media using #RhodyGem to suggest yours, and we might just feature it!
What it is:
A one-stop-shop for the breezy beach lifestyle, this boutique curates a vast selection of swimwear, active apparel, accessories, and gifts.
Where to find it:
Nestled along Newport’s bustling Thames Street, across from Francis Malbone House, you’ll know you’re there when you peer inside and spot racks of colorful clothes.
What makes it a Rhody Gem?
“The Salty Babe” is as much an identity as it is a shop. Owner Jackie Hopkins, who led a life of surfing and traveling around the world before founding the boutique, has a specific persona in mind when she describes this kind of babe: “From big city nights to beach-bleached weekends, a Salty Babe rides a creative wave inspired by the energy of the ocean and the freedom of adventure.” This vibe is embodied by a collection of swimsuits for all shapes and sizes; popular brands like Free People, Billabong, and Roxy; and their own line of graphic tees and sweatshirts for visitors and locals alike with fun quips like “The ocean made me salty.” For active “babes” who don’t take themselves too seriously, this is a must for building a beachy wardrobe.
