1960’s

kAren green drown ‘62 - “I survived the Montecito mudslide. My neighbor pulled me from my mud filled truck and took me back uphill to my house. Later that day a fireman brought me two muddy dogs and asked if I wanted them. That afternoon, I waded through waist high mud and ash to the frontage road dragging two big dogs. Sometimes God gives us extra strength. I was blessed to spend several weeks with my son Bill and his family. This experience really puts things in perspective. I felt like a Pioneer.”

(PHOTO 1) BoBBie smith Polizzi ‘63 - “I retired from a career in advertising design and product development a few years ago and I am now a full time artist. I live in Flat Rock, western North Carolina and am very involved with area galleries and the art community. I also teach my assemblage art techniques.”

(PHOTO 2) rose cAVen PiAzzA ‘66 - “On June 29, I retired from working at Providence High School. I graduated in 1966, as did my children Scott in ‘99 and Christina Piazza Novak in ‘01, then I went back to work there in November 2001. I’ve trod these halls for long enough, I think it’s time I turn it over to somebody else. I will miss everyone, they have seen me through SOO much, THEY ARE THE BEST!! I look forward to getting back to some of my hobbies and spending more time with my grandchildren.”

(PHOTO 3) deBorAh BAkunAs ‘67 - “In April 2018, we bought a house on 3.5 acres in Shooting Star Ranch, Teton Valley, Victor, Idaho on Fox Creek. We are approximately two hours from Yellowstone with the back of our property being a 10 minute walk into Wyoming and half hour drive to Targhee Ski lifts, where they have Teton Valley’s best Nordic Skiing.

The weather is so much better than the 115 degrees we would be having in Santa Clarita. Most days here have been in the 70’s, however, we have had snow, rain, and sun all in one week.

My grandson, Jackson, is currently at Football camp at Boise State, on the famous “blue field,” where he is hoping for a scholarship.

I miss the convenience of seeing my daughter, grandchildren, and friends, but the beauty and peacefulness here is keeping me satisfied.”

(PHOTO 4) clAire dumer holdAwAy ‘69 - “I have a couple of updates. In May 2017, I retired from my forty-year career in the computer industry as a computer programmer and analyst. Thanks to Providence for all of the math and science that helped me forge my way as a woman in this technical field, which is so frequently dominated by men. I’m enjoying my retired life by maintaining my organic permaculture vegetable garden and singing in two choruses. I sing in the Forever Young Chorus of Grass Valley and the Sierra Master Chorale. Thanks to Providence and Sr. Priscilla for the great experience in chorus that helped me continue my passion for music! My husband Jack and I are preparing my 1969 Mini Cooper for a 9,000-mile round trip to Alaska via British Columbia and Yukon

(PHOTO 5) lesA heeBner ‘72 - “I retired from City Council (City of Solana Beach, CA) in December of 2016 after three fouryear terms. However, due to an unexpected resignation on the current Council, I was unanimously appointed to fulfill that term, which ends in December of this year. Meanwhile, I am still working as a mentor to entrepreneurs and cause-driven individuals.”

1980’s

mAry welch ‘82 - “I recently received my Masters of Science in Nursing for Administration and Management. I am still employed at PSJMC since my hiring in 1981 (I was a junior when I got hired) and am now coming up on my 37th year and 30 years in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and it’s been the best job ever!”

2000’s

deVin BryAnt ‘00 moved to Washington, DC after college in 2004 and worked for Congress doing ‘space stuff’ and since 2011 has worked at NASA doing Legislative Affairs. He’s married to a local from Alexandria, VA and has one daughter named Rowan and a baby boy on the way.

She was a moderator for their recent event titled, From MBA to Disney’s Coco: Angela Cervantes, An Author’s Journey, which featured Cervantes, who was approached directly by Disney Pixar to write the junior novelization for the animated film, Coco, and has also written four Scholasticpublished books, including her most recent book, Me, Frida and the Secret of the Peacock Ring. Cervantes and Subramaniyam are both MBA alumnae from Avila University.

(PHOTO 7) seAn kAloostiAn ‘03 married Tara Vartanian, DO on May 26, 2018. Their reception was held at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

(PHOTO 8) jAnet hAn kim ‘05 - “I got married on July 1, 2017 to Eugene Kim. We both work at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. I am the Physician Assistant Lead in Neurosurgery. I was featured in their spring campaign commercial (https:// youtu.be/-UBn6DgDnxY). More recently, I had two PHS seniors from Dr. Harjani’s Medical Focus Program come observe in the OR. It was great to connect with Providence again! Can’t wait to hear how everyone is doing!

State University Los Angeles. I have acquired a new job position at Carpenter, Zuckerman & Rowley which is a prestigious plaintiff’s law firm in Beverly Hills, as a Litigation Assistant helping clients and attorneys with the litigation process. I will be attending UCLA School of Law in the coming year. I attribute these latest successes to the education I received at Providence as it helped me prepare for my career and to be professional.”

justin mArquez ‘15 - “ I am currently in an internship with The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in their IT department. As an intern I am partaking in the Academy Gold Program, a program connecting me with industry professionals and networking with over 80 other interns in various fields. Big thanks to the PHS Technology Focus Program!”

(PHOTO 9) Andre ortiz ‘16 is in his second year at UC Berkeley studying integrative biology. He went on a service trip to Jaraboca in the Dominican Republic with the dental outreach group “volunteers around the world” (through UC Berkeley), serving as a dental assistant for two weeks in the community center helping local families meet their dental care needs. Andre hopes to be a pediatric dentist in the future.

We love to hear about all of the wonderful things our alumni are experiencing!
