(PHOTO 1) lindA ‘mAc’ mcneel ‘68 traveled to Madrid, Spain in October 2016 to meet up with her daughter, Sierra McNeelMoore. Sierra was on a semester abroad, before returning to continue her junior year at UC Berkeley. They celebrated Sierra’s 20th birthday by traveling to Barcelona on the bullet train then continued north to Montpellier (photo) and Lyon, France. Linda lives with her husband in Santa Barbara where she teaches yoga, sits on the board of PFLAG, teaches Sunday school, and sings in the church choir.
Adrienne PettiJohn ‘68 - “I traveled a lot (I LOVE retirement!!) this year, starting 2016 in Northern California. In May I flew to Pittsburgh to help my son, William, do his final packing because he and his fiancée relocated to Huntington Beach due to a company she happily joined located in Orange County...away from snow!!! Oh, and I had to hand carry their cat, Tyler, on the plane back to LA. Hmmm, I wonder if that’s the real reason William asked me to come “help him pack.” In July, I did my annual visit to Washington and Oregon. And in October/November, I joined a buddy from college and his wife to stroll around Eastern Europe. And by “stroll,” I mean I walked an average of 10,000 steps a day. I now have friends in Warsaw and Krakow, Poland; Budapest, Hungary; Vienna, Austria; Prague, Czech Republic; and Berlin, Germany. I got home Nov 21, did laundry, and on Nov 23 drove with William and his fiancée, Halley, to Colorado where I met 25 members of her family at Thanksgiving dinner. I told them they all have to wear name tags at William’s and Halley’s wedding which is happening on April 1st in Colorado. It’s going to be in an Automobile Museum so I’m standing by for my “marching orders” as the mother of the groom.
I ended 2016 with thyroid surgery on Dec 7th. I had developed nodes in both my thyroid glands which was interfering with my talking. And everyone knows that if Adrienne can’t talk, the world will stop turning. All went well, and my speaking voice improves daily.”

london ruff ‘15 was chosen as a runnerup winner in the “Hidden Figures” scholarship contest. Inspired by the movie Hidden Figures, PepsiCo, and 21st Century Fox partnered to find the next generation of women who will lead the way in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). Their search invited reallife women and girls who had yet to be recognized for their great work or potential in STEM to share their stories and compete for money to put toward education.
London was named one of 10 runner ups in the contest out of 7,000 applicants and won a $10,000 scholarship toward her education. She is currently attending the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology working on a degree in Geology and Paleontology. This contest has inspired her to focus on ways she can use her education to make changes and to help find new sources for clean renewable energy for our planet and inspire other young girls to follow their dreams in STEM.
