Capstone

6TH GRADE:

The 6th-grade capstone is a collaborative, problem-solving experience in which students design real-world solutions based on the theme of “building community.”

Sixth graders participate in activities designed with “communitybuilding” in mind. Sixth graders are introduced to six sub-themes on our campus: building relationships, healthy living, environmental responsibility, digital citizenship, traditions, and equity and inclusion. Sorted by students’ choices, teams of approximately ten students are created. The goal for each team is to design a product, policy, or experience that positively impacts the PD community. Some of these designs have become a part of our middle school culture.

Clubs & Activities

Middle School offers various clubs that promote leadership and collaboration while allowing students to explore their talents and interests beyond the classroom.

From our nationally recognized Robotics and Drone teams to Model U.N., Science Olympiad, the Art Club, the official Middle School Play, or just Improv for fun, Middle Schoolers can choose from over twenty clubs and organizations to join. With these offerings, we emphasize the importance of allowing students the opportunity to uncover new passions, strengths, and leadership skills.

Seventh and eighth graders may participate in a variety of sports. Service learning is also emphasized, and most students participate in service activities.

Arts

We are committed to nurturing creativity and confidence at all levels of learning. Comprehensive exposure to the visual arts, music, and theatre is an essential part of a well-rounded educational experience. From TK through 12th grade, students are encouraged to discover and pursue their artistic passions. In Middle School, students may choose from electives in visual arts, band, chorus, strings, theatre, or technical theatre. Each year, students also have the opportunity to audition for theatre productions, including both plays and musicals. Additional opportunities are available for those who wish to explore the arts beyond the classroom, such as participation in honors ensembles and arts-related trips. These experiences allow students to broaden their artistic perspectives and perform beyond campus. At least one Middle School theatre production is presented each year.

Athletics

Participation in the Providence Day athletic program allows student-athletes to pursue excellence, build lasting relationships, and grow physically and emotionally. Students in seventh and eighth grades have the opportunity to participate in a variety of team sports.

The athletic department is committed to developing the whole person by integrating excellence in education and athletic competition. As an extension of the classroom, the athletic program promotes sportsmanship, commitment, character, respect, and integrity, instilling lifelong values and fostering meaningful personal growth for each student-athlete.

Alumni Community

Providence Day School proudly engages a vibrant network of more than 4,000 alumni who remain part of our community long after graduation. Every PD graduate and former student belongs to the Alumni Association, which supports the school’s mission through events, professional networking, volunteer opportunities, and lifelong connections while celebrating alumni achievements. Our alumni and their families are always part of the PD family.

Parent Community

All Providence Day parents are members of the Parents’ Association, whose mission is to collaborate with the school to foster a vibrant community through volunteer activities, fellowship opportunities, and fundraising events that support families, faculty, and staff. Additionally, parents are encouraged to join the Charger Club, which strengthens the athletic experience through fundraising and volunteerism, and the Friends of the Arts, which supports the visual and performing arts.

My wife always says to ‘bloom where you’re planted,’ and PD is a very fertile place. Not only are the parents very supportive of each other, but I have found our kids’ friends within the PD community are wonderful people, and are developing into wonderful young adults.

John Olin, father of students in the classes of 2020, 2022, and 2023
