CONNECTIONS

SPECIAL EDITION: VOTING GUIDE

DURING WORSHIP ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17, PROVIDENCE WILL ELECT NEW LEADERS TO SERVE AS DEACONS AND ON OUR NEWLY FORMED CHURCH COUNCIL!

From the Senior Pastor

UPCOMING LAY LEADERSHIP

VOTING GUIDE – NOVEMBER 17

During worship on Sunday, November 17, we will call new lay leaders to serve at Providence— eight deacons, as well as six members of our first ever Church Council at Providence.

The slate of deacons and a brief bio for each person can be found inside. We will be asked to affirm (or reject) the entire slate with a “YES” or “NO” vote. These deacons will serve a three-year term.

The Church Council candidates can also be found inside, along with a bio for each. Of the 12 people listed, we will elect 6 to serve terms of up to three years. Because this is the

first time that Providence will be electing a Church Council, it may be helpful to keep in mind the qualifications for leaders to serve in this governing capacity.

According to our revised bylaws, members of the Church Council are people of strong faith, deep commitment, and good judgment, whose lives reflect a striving to live out the Christian gospel; they are regular participants in the worship of God at Providence and are active in the life of the church; have been members of Providence for at least the past two years; they have served God at Providence in a way that gives them credibility as leaders in the church; they are eager and glad to articulate and champion a

positive, Christ-centered vision for the church; and they are exemplary members of Providence and faithfully meet the expectations of all church members as listed in the church bylaws.

May we all pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance as together we call new lay leaders to serve at Providence on November 17, and may the peace of Christ be with you.

The Special Nominating Committee Needs You!

The Special Nominating Committee—which, this year, includes three deacon representatives—is hard at work recruiting new leaders to serve on four new committees at Providence:

• Financial Resources: Provides leadership for raising, spending, and growing the money that funds the Missions and Ministries of Providence Baptist Church.

• Human Resources: Provides leadership for supporting church staff and recruiting volunteers to do ministry.

• Property Resources: Provides leadership for taking care of the buildings and grounds where we worship, learn, grow, and play together at Providence.

• Missions Resources: Provides leadership for helping Providence people serve others and share good news in the name of Jesus.

Interested in putting your gifts to use by serving the church on one of these committees? Please contact Amy Stokes, this year’s Nominating chair, at ajgayman@gmail.com to let her know where and how you’d like to serve!

You are encouraged to pray about your giving and make your commitments with us in Worship during Commitment Sunday on November 24. If you haven’t yet made a commitment to Providence
