CONNECTIONS

RECENTLY, A GROUP OF 20 PROVIDENCE WOMEN PARTICIPATED IN OUR WOMEN'S RETREAT TO MONTREAT, NC! WHILE THERE, THEY PARTICIPATED IN WORKSHOPS LED BY CARRIE VEAL, ASSOCIATE MINISTER AT MYERS PARK BAPTIST CHURCH, ON THE TOPIC OF "DISCOVERING THE ENNEAGRAM." THIS WAS A FUN, RELAXING, AND ENGAGING TIME. STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS ABOUT OUR NEXT RETREAT!

From the Music Minister

Dear Providence Baptist Church, Throughout the Biblical narrative, God calls us to follow. When we respond, “here I am, Lord,” it can signal that an exciting journey lies ahead, but it can also mean that we must leave something behind. Just as I trusted that God called me to Providence in 2014, I believe God is calling again, and I am compelled to respond, “I will go.”

Through much discernment and prayer, I have accepted a call to become the new Associate Minister for Music and Administration at Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC. This new journey for my family means our time at Providence will soon come to an end; however, our love and gratitude continue eternally. For nearly 11 years, you have loved us, cared for us, and welcomed us as we have served together. The memories and experiences we have shared will forever shape the course of our lives – I hope, for the better.

As I reflect on my time here, I am filled with gratitude for the people with whom I have served. To the Sanctuary Choir: thank you for your dedication and support; you have inspired me, and I continue to be in awe of your faithful witness. To the Student Choir: thank you for your joyous energy and ambition; keep singing! To the Music Staff (past and present): thank you for trusting me and for joining me in our shared vision; you are a blessing. To all with whom I have worshiped, worked, sung, led, taught, laughed, cried, and anything else, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives; I am forever humbled by the journey we have shared together.

I often quote the hymn writer Fred Pratt Green, whose lyrics continue to inspire me. As I reflect on them, and as I think about the wonderful leaders and musicians at Providence, I have confidence that I am leaving the Music Ministry in good hands.

Those lyrics are as follows:

When in our music God is glorified, and adoration leaves no room for pride,

It is as though the whole creation cried: Alleluia!

How often, making music, we have found a new dimension in the world of sound,

As worship moved us to a more profound Alleluia!

Let every instrument be tuned for praise! Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise!

And may God give us faith to sing always: Alleluia!

May the peace of Christ be always with you!
