With Christ at the Center

CONNECTIONS

Our monthly PrimeTimers' Luncheons are a way for adults of all ages—not just seniors—to gather for fellowship, a delicious lunch, and special programming! Join us on the 3rd Thursday of each month!

From the Senior Pastor

Near the end of this month, Amy Brown, David Frame, and I will be going to Uganda. We leave on February 20 and will return to Charlotte on February 28. In between, we’ll be spending several days in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, learning about the good work that Benjamin House Ministries is doing among its neighbors there.

Why are we doing this?

Our Missions Committee believes— and I agree—that it’s important for Providence to develop partnerships with Christians in other countries, so we can work together to ease suffering, promote justice, and change lives in the name of Jesus. In Revelation 5:9, we read that the body of Christ gathered around the throne of God in heaven consists of “saints from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

This is biblical truth—and I have found that the most powerful way to experience this truth is by spending time working, worshiping, and building relationships with fellow followers of Jesus in other countries. There's no substitute for being there and doing that.

For several years, we partnered with Cooperative Baptist field personnel in Slovakia. They have moved on to another assignment—which means that we are now in the market for a new international mission partnership. This is where Benjamin House enters the conversation.

Our Christian Lifestyles Faith Formation class already has a longstanding relationship with Benjamin House. The executive director of Benjamin House, Joakim Matende, visited Providence last May on Anniversary Sunday and spoke about his organization’s efforts to break cycles of poverty and equip families to become self-sustaining through education and work. Many of you heard what Joe had to say that day and were inspired to learn more about Benjamin House.

The Missions Committee felt the same way and asked Joe: What’s the best way for us to figure out whether Benjamin House would be a good mission partner for Providence—and vice versa? His answer? Come over, visit us, and see what we’re doing. That’s how Amy, David, and I ended up making plans for this scouting trip in late

February. We’ll let you know what we find out.

In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about Benjamin House and how they serve their community, check out their website at www.benjaminhouse.net. And then please pray that God will use this visit to Uganda at the end of the month to further our collective sense of discernment as we pursue one of our Vision of Ministry goals for 2026 of increasing hands-on missions engagement—both in Charlotte and around the world.

May the peace of Christ be with you!
