Protopixel is a lighting platform that combines software, hardware, and cloud services to design, integrate, control, and manage lighting projects from start to finish. It works with all major protocols like DALI2 DMX and SPI, also including Casambi, integrating with a BMS as needed, making it technology-agnostic and future-proof.
With Protopixel, lighting professionals, estate owners and end user clients can move easily from concept to commissioning to daily operation, ensuring reliable, scalable, and flexible lighting installations.

At Protopixel, we brought our lighting platform to life in the Akai Sora Restaurant & Bar, transforming its atmosphere into a vibrant and dynamic space. By integrating our technology, we curated an adaptable lighting design that enhances every facet of the dining experience— from the warm, welcoming glow during dinners to

the energetic vibes during after-work gatherings and DJ sessions. Our platform ensures the perfect ambiance, making Akai Sora not just a restaurant, but a fully immersive environment where light plays a central role in creating unforgettable moments.
The restaurant features a combination of luminaires with diverse protocols that are centralized into our all-in-one platform.
Control and integration of several technologies (DALI2, SPI, Phase Cut, DMX) allow a complex orchestration and a transformation of the space depending on the time of the day and use.
1. Audio-reactive content
2. Interoperability all-in-one with DALI2, Phase Cut, DMX, SPI
3. Curated atmospheres thanks to the flexibility of combining different types of luminaires and technologies

The completed installation comprises exteriormounted fixtures, remote management capabilities, and scheduled lighting configurations. Each component underwent extensive testing to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
The Protopixel Platform allowed for:
-- Installation of architectural lighting system
-- Custom mapping and control implementation
-- Integration with existing building infrastructure
The project has successfully established Hospital Sant Joan de Deu as an architectural landmark in Barcelona’s nighttime landscape.
The first Hospital in the city to feature a digital lighting facade. This project demonstrates how healthcare facilities can balance architectural presence with operational requirements through thoughtful design and reliable technologies. It stems from the collaboration between all parties: LUMALIA’s technical expertise in implementation, ARTEC’s architectural vision, and Protopixel’s lighting control technology. The project serves as a model for large-scale architectural lighting in healthcare environments.
These features provide great flexibility and allow the use of the facade as a communication element between the hospital and the citizens.

L’illa Diagonal, the first shopping center built in Barcelona, underwent an ambitious renovation project with a budget of 35 million euros. Led by the prestigious architectural firm Batlleiroig, the aim of this project is to redefine the shopping, art, and cultural experience offered by L’illa Diagonal. The center, which spans an impressive 35,000 square meters and boasts 170 stores, attracts
approximately 14 million visitors annually. Working in collaboration with the renowned architectural firm Batlleiroig and the studio Lighting Artec, Lumalia Studio has brought to life a dynamic 1,100 square meter installation that serves as a testament to the integration of architecture and lighting design.

Partnered with Simon Electric
SWITCH, the new headquarters for Simon, has been designed by renowned interior designer Antoni Arola, in collaboration with Jordi Tamayo. The architectural design was handled by b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos, with respectful rehabilitation of the original factory, emphasizing its industrial heritage while modernizing it for contemporary use. Protopixel’s Platform was key in achieving the desired lighting for the building.
The Protopixel Platform enabled adaptable lighting to meet the building’s needs through its agnostic and interoperable capabilities, providing precise control and customization. Dynamic lighting was implemented on the façade, winter patio, and multipurpose wellness room (using DMX and SPI for RGBW control). In the showroom, indoor dynamic and functional luminaires were installed (SPI and DALI2 spotlights with Tunable White).

1. User comfort through lighting
2. Manages multiple protocols (DMX, SPI, DALI2) with seamless integration and interoperability
3. BMS integration with emergency response coordination and synchronization with environmental factors
Unique Selling Points
The installation, mapped in the Project Tool, includes motion sensors for energy saving, Simon IO button panels for analog control, and the Protopixel App for digital control. All dynamic content was designed using the Protopixel Suite for project design, implementation, and deployment. Protopixel manages a variety of luminaires with different control types: on/off, DALI2, SPI, and DMX for outdoor lighting on the patio. This comprehensive control ensures that all lighting needs are met efficiently and effectively.
Equipped with daylight and motion sensors, the Protopixel Platform reduces energy consumption and is integrated with the building management system (BMS). This integration allows the BMS to send commands to Protopixel during emergencies, ensuring synchronized lighting across the building for coordinated responses.

The Mineirão Stadium, officially known as Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto, is a renowned football stadium located in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The stadium features an automation network composed of Protopixel equipment. This network enables the creation of a wide range of pre-programmed lighting effects that can be synchronized with music and on-field attractions remotely, using Protopixel’s Remote Access.

Mineirão will become the third stadium in Brazil to implement LED lighting, following the Morumbi Stadium in 2019 and the Allianz Parque in the previous year. This lighting upgrade not only enhances the visual experience for spectators but also contributes to energy efficiency and the overall development of the stadium’s infrastructure.

With the new LED technology, energy consumption will be reduced to less than half of the current: 800 kWh. The responsiveness of the lighting system has also improved, enabling instant activation and deactivation of the projectors. Previously, it would take approximately 15 minutes for the entire lighting system to fully illuminate, whereas now, it’s instantaneous, similar to turning on the lights at home.

The intervention Mix & Match put in the hands of thousands of people the possibility of drawing anything on the skin of the city’s iconic landmark. Controlled by tablets through our software Create, the façade of the Tower became during the 3 days of the festival an unmissable attraction for the public who went to the Poblenou neighborhood, the urban venue of the massive event. Since 2011, thanks to
Merlin Properties, the company that owns the emblematic building designed by the prestigious architect Jean Nouvel, Protopixel has provided the technology and professional services for the lighting of the Tower, designing each and every one of the dozens of animations that have been seen over the years.
The upgrade of an existing installation that went from being underutilised due to the complexity of the control system, to becoming a dynamic element for the city and an asset for MERLIN, thanks to the ease of deploying new content offered by Protopixel.
