El L&DConference 2023 se celebró gracias al interés de destacadas empresas y líderes de la industria de logística, retail, tecnología y e-commerce entre muchas otras más.

Ciudad de México a 4 de julio del 2023.- El pasado 28 de junio se llevó a cabo Logistic and Delivery Conference 2023, el cual es una plataforma de intercambio de conocimiento donde se reunieron más de 300 líderes de logística, ciberseguridad, última milla, almacenamiento, e-commerce, transporte, tecnología y comercio exterior de México y otros países.

What is it like to be an ambassador?

This is a question I believe I am being asked for the first time. I think that being an ambassador is embodying what your country stands for and what your country has provided you with as stepping stones toward becoming an ambassador. For us in the UAE, our leadership is very keen to provide the right opportunities from birth, whether it is education, opportunities for higher education, and providing the population with the skills to deal with not only future challenges but also opportunities.

¿Cómo es ser embajador?

Es una pregunta que creo que me hacen por primera vez. Creo que ser embajador es encarnar lo que representa su país y lo que su país le ha brindado como peldaños para convertirse en embajador. Para nosotros en los EAU, nuestro liderazgo está muy interesado en brindar las oportunidades adecuadas desde el nacimiento, ya sea educación, oportunidades para la educación superior y brindar a la población las habilidades para no solo enfrentar los desafíos futuros sino también las oportunidades.

[EN] The traditional view of an ambassador is that he or she is political.

However, an ambassador must also be equipped to deal with various focus areas, such as cultural or economic issues. As the world’s issues have become more thematic and dynamic, so has the role of an ambassador.

Climate change, youth empowerment, and women’s empowerment are all top priorities for us in the UAE. As an ambassador, one must be adaptable to convey the country’s policy on these issues when serving abroad.

I was appointed Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and submitted my credentials a week ago. Today is the third month since I have been here, and I am with The Netherlands.

It is also the ability to communicate, interact, and cooperate with people from different cultural backgrounds respectfully and constructively.

[EN] Reflections on the most relevant points learned during the ProtocolToday Academy Global Mindset Executive Masterclass Program, specifically on protocol and etiquette in the diplomatic and business fields. During my professional career, I have had the opportunity to participate in numerous diplomatic activities and meetings, which has led me to understand the importance of protocol and etiquette in the success of relationships.

In this sense, protocol and etiquette, both in diplomacy and business, are essential tools for establishing and maintaining effective and respectful communication with others. They are the pillars that support the appropriate standards of behaviour and conduct in the political, social and business spheres. Following these standards creates an atmosphere of professionalism, courtesy and mutual respect, which fosters trust and strengthens business relationships.

Reflexiones sobre los puntos más relevantes aprendidos durante el Programa Masterclass Ejecutivo Global Mindset de la Academia ProtocolToday, específicamente sobre protocolo y etiqueta en el ámbito diplomático y empresarial.

One of the main lessons to highlight is the importance of punctuality. Arriving on time to meetings and appointments demonstrates commitment, respect for the time of others, and a professional attitude.

In addition, proper clothing is also an essential aspect of business and diplomatic etiquette. Dressing appropriately for each occasion shows respect for others and helps project a professional image.

Una de las principales lecciones a destacar es la importancia de la puntualidad. Llegar a tiempo a las reuniones y citas demuestra compromiso, respeto por el tiempo de los demás y una actitud profesional. Además, la vestimenta adecuada también es un aspecto clave de la etiqueta comercial y diplomática. Vestirse apropiadamente para cada ocasión muestra respeto por los demás y ayuda a proyectar una imagen profesional.

Otro aspecto crucial del protocolo empresarial es el saludo y trato a los demás. Another crucial aspect of the business protocol is greeting and treatment of others. It is essential to greet cordially and respectfully, using the titles corresponding to the position held by the person and respecting the hierarchical levels. In addition, body language, such as eye contact and a firm handshake, is important in establishing an excellent initial impression.

Proper communication is another essential element. It is important to speak clearly and maintain an appropriate tone of voice in all interactions. Listening carefully to others, showing genuine interest, and avoiding interruptions are key aspects of effective communication.

Likewise, respect for the hierarchy and the rules of courtesy is fundamental in business and diplomacy. When interacting with people from different levels of the hierarchy, it is essential to show deference and treat each individual respectfully, regardless of their position.

Several centuries ago, the social Protocol and the Etiquette at the Western table allowed the image and the development in the way of eating, to reveal the level of education of people with a social lifestyle or a privileged status. , as it happened in the old monarchies, where the courtier was known and chosen, for such behavior.

Thanks to globalization, it would be expected that in our times, a significant majority knows this development. It should be natural and well-managed but mainly appropriate to the uses and customs of the different societies that make up our hemispheres.

Just as sushi became fashionable and many make an effort to eat with chopsticks, it would be interesting if there was a similar concern to learning to eat correctly with a knife, fork and spoon or the other ways other cultures take it.

Hace varios siglos, el Protocolo social y la Etiqueta en la mesa occidental, permitieron que la imagen y el desarrollo en la forma de comer, revelaran el nivel de educación de las personas con un estilo de vida social o un estatus privilegiado, como sucedía en las antiguas monarquías, donde el cortesano era conocido y elegido, para tal comportamiento.

It is known that since the last century, the diplomatic world has focused on the “Continental Style”, which is considered the elegant, formal, practical and “universalized” style for business and high-level meetings; however, it cannot be denied. That the “American Style” exists, or with the fingers, or with a spoon and fork, or with chopsticks, or with the traditions of a “European Style” (assimilated by many as the continental style)that refuses to disappear.

ARGENTINA [EN] The speech is a premeditated oral narration expressed in solemn and massive acts, generally political, on a theme, thought, vision and/or conclusion, to move, inform or persuade the audience.

Within oratory, speeches are a fundamental tool. We can define it as an oral presentation on a specific matter, pronounced before an audience. in order to convince or move him.

There are different types of Speeches; among them are Narrative Speech, Advertising Speech, Expository Speech, Argumentative Speech, and Political Speech.

A narrative speech shows or narrates facts or situations through a plot and an argument.

This speech is well known because it is used in novels and stories. Without realizing it, we use it daily.

El discurso, una herramienta fundamental [ES] El discurso es una narración oral premeditada expresada en actos solemnes y masivos, generalmente políticos, sobre un tema, pensamiento, visión y/o conclusión, para conmover, informar o persuadir a la audiencia.

Dentro de la oratoria, los discursos son una herramienta fundamental. Podemos definirlo como una exposición oral sobre un asunto específico, pronunciada ante un auditorio. para convencerlo o conmoverlo.

Hay diferentes tipos de Discursos; entre ellos se encuentran el discurso narrativo, el discurso publicitario, el discurso expositivo, el discurso argumentativo y el discurso político.

Un discurso narrativo muestra o narra hechos o situaciones a través de una trama y un argumento. Este discurso es muy conocido porque se usa en novelas y cuentos. Sin darnos cuenta, lo usamos a diario.

For its part, advertising discourse has, unlike other types of discourse, a very practical objective: to sell a product. This must constantly evolve, mutate and reinvent itself. It must be, among other things, eye-catching to capture the public’s interest, and it must be creative so that it does not continue to be more of the same.

Por su parte, el discurso publicitario tiene, a diferencia de otros tipos de discurso, un objetivo muy práctico: vender un producto.

Esta debe evolucionar, mutar y reinventarse constantemente. Debe ser, entre otras cosas, llamativo para captar el interés del público, y debe ser creativo para que no siga siendo más de lo mismo.

The expository discourse is one whose main objective is to inform or clarify a fact or a situation. The fundamental characteristics of this type of speech are the clarity of the exposition and the conciseness – the more synthetic, the clearer it will be. And this characteristic has nothing to do with the brevity of the speech but rather with the fact that the ideas presented are accurately expressed.

El discurso expositivo es aquel que tiene como principal objetivo informar o aclarar un hecho o una situación. Las características fundamentales de este tipo de discurso son la claridad de la exposición y la concisión, cuanto más sintética, más clara será. Y esta característica no tiene que ver con la brevedad del discurso sino con el hecho de que las ideas presentadas estén expresadas con precisión.

Argumentative speeches have as their main objective to convince someone of something; for that, this type of speech must be thought out and elaborated with great care. The argumentation must develop smoothly, without arrogance or abruptness.

The idea is to go step by step, explaining everything so that, by the end of the speech, the audience feels that they have reached the conclusions on their own.

Los discursos argumentativos tienen como principal objetivo convencer a alguien de algo; por eso, este tipo de discurso debe ser pensado y elaborado con mucho cuidado. La argumentación debe desarrollarse con fluidez, sin prepotencia ni brusquedad.

Gift giving and doing business in China

In the government sphere, gifts are illegal to avoid possible bribes, and there is some circumstantial flexibility in the business and political spheres.

Although this consideration of bribery is no longer widespread, it is possible for someone to refuse a gift (even out of habit, as will be explained later) or to be unwelcome. Some people or groups will not change or adapt to specific changes.

A banquet is the most acceptable if you want to make a gift. An excellent way to give away is an invitation to eat.

Dar obsequios y hacer negocios en China [ES] Dar regalos forma parte de la cultura ancestral China y ofrecerlo, es una muestra de cortesía y de buena educación, aunque esta costumbre se daba solo en el ámbito privado.

En el ámbito gubernamental, los obsequios son ilegales para evitar posibles sobornos y, en el ámbito empresarial y político, existe cierta flexibilización circunstancial.

Aunque esta consideración de soborno ya no es generalizada, es posible que alguien rechace un regalo (inclusive por costumbre, como se explicará posteriormente) o no muestre agrado. Algunas personas o colectivos no cambian ni se adaptarán a ciertos cambios.

Si se quiere hacer algún regalo, el más aceptable, es un banquete. Una buena forma de regalar para ellos, es una invitación a comer; generalmente, esta invitación es una forma de dar la bienvenida.

Generally, this invitation is a form of welcoming. If we get invited to a meal, we must reciprocate our hosts by inviting them to a similar one. This way of reciprocating is a way of following Chinese protocol and being polite in responding to their attention.

Si nos invitan a una comida, tenemos que corresponder a nuestros anfitriones invitándoles a una similar. Esta manera de corresponder es una forma de seguir el protocolo chino y de ser educados respondiendo a sus atenciones.

Otherwise, we must bear in mind that Western-type gifts are highly appreciated, and more so those that have to do with some traditional or typical gift from the country of origin; that is to say, the best accepted to give to a company are the crafts of our country and the books that speak of the customs, history or geography of the same; (or the region or area from which we come). Additionally, it requires a clear message regarding the type and company we represent, nothing to give doubts. In addition to making the gift, we can explain its meaning, which is much better for them. In this way, they find a more excellent justification for it.

De lo contrario, tengamos en cuenta que son muy apreciados los regalos del tipo occidental, y más los que tienen que ver con algún tipo de regalo costumbrista o típico del país de origen; es decir, los mejor aceptados para dar a una empresa son las artesanías de nuestro país y los libros que hablen de las costumbres, historia o geografía del mismo; (o de la región o zona de la que procedemos).

Adicionalmente, requieren tener un mensaje muy claro con relación al tipo y la empresa que representamos. Nada que siembre duda.

Si además de hacer el regalo, podemos explicar su significado, mucho mejor para ellos. De esta manera, encuentran una mayor Justificación al mismo.

Intolerance: A way of life?

By Wilfredo Peréz Ruiz, Specialist in Etiquette PERU [EN] Intolerance is a synonym for sectarianism, obstinacy, and stubbornness. Because it reveals severe emotional deficiencies, we adapt to living with that wrong way of proceeding. This is, without a doubt, another example of the apathy that characterizes us so much.

We live in a social context that promotes poor development and poor performance. Worse, we accept the intense atmosphere of intolerance that affects human relationships with resignation and bemusement. I am concerned about how quickly it spreads and disrupts our quality of life in the most diverse scenarios. It’s in our blood.

I could go on and on about the numerous everyday situations that indicate growing intolerance. Our ability to understand and accept others is deteriorating. We are in a process that is threatening our survival.

La intolerancia: ¿una forma de vida?

[ES] La intolerancia entendida como sinónimo de sectarismo, terquedad, obstinación y testarudez, es habitual.

Estamos adaptándonos para convivir con esa errada manera de proceder que revela severas carencias emocionales. Sin duda, otra demostración de la indiferencia que tanto nos caracteriza.

Formamos parte de un contexto social con un desenvolvimiento equivocado y un desempeño poco inteligente. Lo que es peor aún, con resignación y enmudecidos, aceptamos la intensa atmósfera de intolerancia que afecta la relación humana.

Me preocupa cómo aceleradamente se contagia y propala, en los más variados escenarios, perturbando nuestra calidad de vida. Al parecer, está en nuestro ADN. Podría hacer un extenso listado de las innumerables situaciones cotidianas indicativas de la creciente intolerancia. Cada vez es más reducida nuestra capacidad para entender y aceptar al semejante.

However, we are doing little or nothing to change this abrasive environment. We are all part of a vicious circle that no longer deserves to be broken.

We see it in heated arguments between couples or between parents and children, where the arrogance of the highest authority imposes its determination; in companies where the boss considers himself the absolute owner of the truth and refuses to admit discrepancies; in political events, where the inability to cohabit with the adversary is undeniable; and even in supermarket queues.

The brand new “stress” that we all claim to be victims of is the ideal ruse to justify our lack of deference.

It is simple to understand the vicious cycle caused by intolerance. It is related to a lack of emotional intelligence, making it easier to understand others’ feelings, cope with work pressures and frustrations, and enhance our ability to work as a team and adopt an empathic attitude.

This fusion of interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence translates into a broad understanding of one’s emotions. It paves the way for stress management and problem-solving in this way.

Estamos en un proceso que degrada nuestra supervivencia; no obstante, poco o nada hacemos para revertir este entorno lacerante.

De una u otra forma, somos parte de un círculo vicioso que ha dejado de merecer repulsa.

Lo observamos en las acaloradas discusiones de parejas o entre padres e hijos, en donde la prepotencia de la máxima autoridad impone su determinación; en empresas en las que el jefe se considera dueño absoluto de la verdad y no admite discrepancias; en el acontecer político resulta innegable la poca destreza para cohabitar con el adversario; hasta en las colas en los supermercados percibimos reacciones altisonantes. El flamante “estrés”, del que todos decimos ser víctimas, es el subterfugio ideal para justificar la escasez de condescendencia.

Es conveniente analizar el círculo vicioso producido por la intolerancia. Para empezar, está relacionada con la inexistencia de inteligencia emocional, la que facilita comprender los sentimientos de los demás, sobrellevar las presiones y frustraciones laborales, acentuar nuestra capacidad de trabajar en equipo y adoptar una actitud empática.

Origin of protocol: Human cooperation

In the previous articles, we talked about protocol (Protocol in the XXI Century) from a scientific point of view. The existing literature on the discipline (Overview of the Biography of Protocol) is like this. Today we would like to talk of another equally relevant perspective: what is the origin of protocol?

The first answer that will probably come to our minds as professionals will be human socialization. After all, it is a tool used in the celebration of symbols. But according to what we have researched from the perspective of sociology or psychology, this would be an obvious yet completely wrong answer among other disciplines.

From the psychological perspective, authors such as Ruiz Tafur (2009) review the phenomenon of socialization according to authors such as Freud and Piaget, among others.

Origen del protocolo: Cooperación humana

[ES] En los artículos anteriores hablábamos de qué es el protocolo (El Protocolo en el siglo XXI) desde un punto de vista científico, y de cómo es la literatura existente alrededor de la disciplina (enlace al artículo). Hoy nos gustaría hablar de otra perspectiva igual de relevante: ¿Cuál es el origen del protocolo?

La primera respuesta que probablemente nos vendrá a la mente como profesionales de la materia será la socialización humana. Al fin y al cabo, es una herramienta empleada en la celebración de los símbolos. Pero a tenor de lo que hemos investigado desde la perspectiva de la sociología o la psicología, entre otras disciplinas, esta sería una respuesta evidente, pero del todo errónea.

Autores como Ruiz Tafur (2009) desde la perspectiva psicológica, hacen una revisión sobre el fenómeno de la socialización a partir de varios autores como Freud y Piaget, entre otros.

Her findings lead her to argue that it is defined as the acquisition of patterns of behaviour, attitudes and values that constitute the substrate on which the personality of the human being is built. Hence, socialisation would allow us to explain how the integration of the norms and standards of society occurs but not the process of creating them.

Therefore, from this psychological perspective, the protocol does not come from the phenomenon of human socialisation.

Let’s look at the socialisation process from a sociological perspective. It is considered the process by which a person becomes a functional member of society, acquiring the culture that is his own. Socialisation is the process of acquiring a culture (Lucas Marín, 1986, p. 357). From this perspective, socialisation has an important weight because it entails a process of formation and growth of an individual but does not explain the origin of the protocol.

Si acudimos a ver el proceso de socialización desde la sociológica, se considera que es el proceso por el que una persona se hace miembro funcional de la sociedad, adquiriendo la cultura que le es propia. Es decir, socialización es el proceso de adquisición de una cultura (Lucas Marín, 1986, p. 357). Por tanto, desde esta perspectiva este fenómeno tiene un peso importante debido a que supone un proceso de formación y crecimiento de un individuo, pero no explica tampoco el origen del protocolo.

Descartada la socialización humana, nos fuimos a investigar la última literatura científica sobre cooperación humana, y es justo en ella donde consideramos que hemos encontrado el origen del protocolo.
