What is it like to be an ambassador?

Being an ambassador requires years of holding various positions, such as a foreign service for a period of more than 40 years.

This is my second ambassadorship, as my first was in Cambodia and now in the Netherlands for two and a half years. The role of an ambassador is to meet the people and the politicians, visit cities and towns and look after the Japanese community in the Netherlands. The Netherlands and Japan have a strong, fascinating relationship, and it is lovely to be here.

What are your specific experiences representing Japan globally and in the Netherlands in particular?

My major foreign assignments in the last 40 years have been about China and the United States, as Europe is very rare among my assignments. My wife, on the other hand, is from the Netherlands, and although we have been married for more than 36 years, we have not had the opportunity to come here. Finally, we arrived in the Netherlands, and as a result, I became the Japanese Ambassador to the Netherlands. It is the Japanese government’s arrangement. This enabled me to learn and comprehend how to strengthen relations between Japan and the Netherlands.

by Elizabeth Soos AUSTRALIA In the study conducted in 1999 by CEO Magazine and Hill & Knowlton, they explained that: 96% of CEOs believe that reputation is essential for their company. 77% believe that a positive reputation helps sell their products and services. 61% think that a positive reputation makes the organisation attractive to employees. 53% believe that a positive reputation increases credibility during crises, as Tamás Csordás, M.B.A stated.

So why is a corporate image important for a brand’s perception and reputation? How can a business or individual use a corporate image to their and the company’s advantage?

Importance of Etiquette and Protocol in the Modern Economic Climate

The age of globalisation swiftly moved from a phenomenon to ‘business as usual’ and has taken a permanent place in the broad spectrum of a progressive and futureoriented enterprise. In parallel, soft skills and cultural awareness axiomatically grew in importance. A new plateau of Millennial and Gen Z consumer society had placed its permanent mark on how businesses and the economy are expected to conduct their affairs, closing the disparity and gap between profits, sustainability, and social responsibility.

As global consumers changed, it painted a compelling picture to anyone able and willing to adapt and recalibrate, ensuring that their core values, products or services align with the standards of the progressive world. For many, especially more conservative institutions, such rapid changes may have felt like something far removed from the realm of their expectation. Most of us know, however, that not being willing to alter does nothing to mitigate the inevitable. Ayn Rand, in her unique blend of enigmatic curiosity and ‘blinders off’ attitude, said it best: “We can ignore reality, but we cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.”

It can help firms improve their performance regarding so-called soft or nonfinancial indicators such as knowledge sharing, reputation, company image, and marketing possibilities. It differs from lobbying or strategic political activity; it implies a strategic and holistic approach of an international business to look at itself as an actor in the international diplomatic arena.

Representation, communication, and negotiation are essential in such an approach.

It also entails respecting others and yourself. It will take a long time for you to make a good impression.

Ensuring we all have the same opportunities is crucial for building an inclusive society.

The protocol in inclusion seeks to make reasonable adjustments to provide technical, material, and human support required by people with disabilities to perform as officials, on company boards, or in society itself. The goal is to guarantee complete equality of opportunities and full inclusion by promoting an understanding of the situation and needs of citizens with disabilities.

Sensitising culture is essential for raising awareness of persons with disabilities and promoting respect for their rights and dignity. Discrimination against people with disabilities should be discouraged. Any distinction, exclusion, or restriction based on disability that impedes the recognition, enjoyment, or exercise of all human rights and fundamental freedoms should be eliminated.

The protocol profession should be inclusive, at the service of all, and within the professional reach of citizens with disabilities. Including people with disabilities within the protocol universe means genuine professional participation, guaranteeing them the same opportunities.

Today, work is considered a fundamental human right, and everyone should have the freedom to choose themselves under just and favourable conditions and the chance to earn a decent living.

Therefore, as a community, we must support people with disabilities and provide them with all the guarantees for their insertion in the universe of the protocol and the various disciplines that the world offers them.

In conclusion, the protocol in inclusion is an essential tool for building an inclusive society that provides opportunities for all, regardless of their disabilities. Sensitising culture, eliminating discrimination, and guaranteeing equal opportunities are critical to ensuring the full inclusion of persons with disabilities. The protocol profession should be inclusive and within the professional reach of all citizens, including those with disabilities.

Everyone should have the freedom to work under just and favourable conditions and earn a decent living, regardless of their disabilities. As a community, we must support people with disabilities to ensure their full participation in the various disciplines that the world offers them.

Debemos comenzar a trabajar para que nuestra profesión sea inclusiva, debiendo estar, no solo al servicio de todos, sino también al alcance profesional para aquellos ciudadanos, que, con algún tipo de discapacidad, también puedan ejercerla.

La inclusión de personas con discapacidad dentro del universo protocolar, significa una genuina participación profesional, garantizándoles al máximo las mismas oportunidades.

Hoy en día, el trabajo es considerado un derecho humano fundamental. Toda persona deber tener la libertad de elegirlo, en condiciones equitativas y satisfactorias, y la oportunidad de ganarse la vida percibiendo una remuneración digna.
