Trends pop up faster than Twitter notifications. Some of them leave an imprint on the generation, while others can gladly be forgotten. EDITH GARCIA | STAFF WRITER

KYLIE LIP CHALLENGE
POKÉMON GO
Once a trending dance move, now a forgotten and overused element to break up just about any dance party. “I hit the hardest whip of 2016 not that long ago,” sophomore Xitlaly Albarran said. “But what I will say is that all these girls need to quit twerking before they break their backs.”
When the KardashianJenner claimed to have “natural” larger-thannormal lips by using lip plumping tricks, the internet went crazy and decided to give the “plump up” look a try. What internet geniuses did not realize was that the “lip enhancing tricks” caused overwhelmingly bad bruises.
When the childhood favorite returned as an on-the-go game, the world went crazy. Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and their peers were all a hit from the game’s release, with over 75+ million downloads. But, just like any other trend, the game began to become less and less relevant.

PARTY IN THE USA What students have to say about their political activity on campus NATALIE BURGESS | STAFF WRITER
“
I knew a couple people that had been part of [Young Democrats] last year, and several people that are in it this year. I came because they said you do not have to be a Democrat to be in Young Dems. I am definitely not a Democrat, but I am also not a Republican, as my beliefs fall in the categories of both Republicans and Democrats. I guess it just seemed like a good opportunity to connect with young people with similar beliefs as mine, and to volunteer for good causes. KARA MAURER | 12 INDEPENDENT

I decided to join Young Democrats this year. Recently I’ve settled and found that the party that I belong to is the Democratic Party. I am an open-minded person who supports LGBT+ rights, I consider myself a devoted feminist, I am Latina, so I have a strong opinion on immigration laws, and overall, am open to try new things. I really believe that students need to be involved in politics in [high school] to begin getting insight on what each party believes, what goes along with politics and how to make decisions based on the political party that someone belongs to. I joined the club because I am really into politics and have been for a very long time. I think others should be more involved in politics so that they can understand how our government works and who would be best to run today’s society. CHASE DAILY | 10 REPUBLICAN
