Esta mala práctica ha sido apoyada por autoridades locales (en todo México) aún a sabiendas que se violaba la Ley General de Bienes Nacionales que permite a todos los ciudadanos mexicanos y extranjeros libertad para disfrutar de sus costas y playas.

A partir del 22 de octubre del 2020 todas las playas de México tienen libre acceso por parte de la ciudadanía.

very important law for all of us who live and visit the sea has just been revised, the Senate of the Republic approved the necessary changes so that access, enjoyment and transit to the beaches of Mexico is free.

The main hotel complexes and many restaurants have always systematically prohibited access to their beaches to the general public and have only allowed their guests or clients to access them.

The restrictions are particularly painful for US, Canadian and Mexican cities along the border that are closely intertwined.

There’s a saying in Mexico: “A clean city is not the one that is swept the most, but the one that is soiled the least.” In this case, we’d like to apply it to our beaches. There’s nothing worse than going for a walk and seeing trash left behind by visitors.

With this in mind, the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association are going above and beyond to keep the destination’s beaches in optimum conditions. These efforts have borne fruit, because it’s currently among the leaders in the nation’s Clean Beaches program.

Playa Las Cuevas This is one of the least known beaches in the Sayulita area, although it’s also one of the most beautiful. Located just north of the town, getting there is easy: you can walk or ride your mountain bike down the path that will take you to a ma-

gical place hidden among rocks sculpted by the pounding of the waves, creating strange formations or “caves.”

Playa Malpaso There are two beautiful villages, Sayulita and San Pancho, linked by the jungle and a beautiful beach called Malpaso. This 2.7 kilometer stretch of pristine beach is one of the few virgin redoubts that can still be found in this region, a paradise that must be appreciated and preserved.

Playa Barro This beach is not well-known by tourists, although it has always been an “open secret” of the locals of San Pancho. Discovered in the last year by Instagrammers, it’s gaining popularity largely because it’s basically an outdoor spa where visitors like to smear mud (which can be found on the hill near the beach) all over their bodies, sunbathe, and then dive into the sea—a glorious experience! Hay muchas instituciones preocupadas por el correcto mantenimiento de las playas. En el caso de la OVC de Riviera Nayarit, contamos con una Red de Limpieza de Playas (RLP), que desde su creación en 2014 ha realizado más de 670 acciones a lo largo de todo el corredor turístico.

es is a job for everyone, especially because of this new normal: After months of confinement, we’re finally able to enjoy the benefits of a good dip in the ocean “While the main focus of the Riviera Nayarit CVB is to promote tourism to the destination, we are also very much obligated to help preserve its natural riches, as they are one of the main attractions that we have to offer our visitors,” said Marc Murphy, managing director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).

As you can see, the Riviera Nayarit does its part, but it’s important that we are all tuned into the same wavelength and help preserve our natural resources.

Here are four recommendations that you can put into practice every time you visit our beaches: n Don’t throw down your cigarette butts or pour out contaminating liquids

It’s awful to be walking on the beach and step on half-eaten food, oil slicks, or cigarette butts.

There are many institutions focused on the proper maintenance of the beaches. In the case of the Riviera Nayarit CVB, we have started the Beach Cleanup Network (BCN).

Since its creation in 2014 it has organized more than 670 cleanups along the entire tourist corridor.

Remember, the Riviera Nayarit is a safe destination, and all hotels, restaurants, and tourist establishments are following all the health protocols established by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Health. The hotels are only operating at 30% occupancy and access to the beaches is limited. Be a responsible tourist: wear your mask and keep your distance.

Lo de Marcos La playa de Lo de Marcos, típico pueblo costero de Riviera Nayarit, es muy limpia y casi siempre con suficiente espacio para tomar el sol y disfrutar de un coctel tropical. También es excelente para nadar por la tranquilidad de sus aguas. Muy cerca se encuentran otras encantadoras playitas, como Los Venados, Las Minitas y El Atracadero,

que son poco frecuentadas, por lo que puedes convertirlas casi en tus playas privadas por un día. Tienen pocos servicios, por lo que es mejor que lleves todo lo que necesites.

Playa Punta Raza Punta Raza es un vasto espacio de arena dorada y suave, con un mar de oleaje intenso y aguas color turquesa. Para llegar a la playa hay que recorrer un estrecho camino desde el poblado de El Monteón, con acceso desde la carretera federal 200 (a 7 kilómetros de Rincón de Guayabitos). Muy cerca de la playa se encuentra el Club Punta Raza, que cuenta con alberca, terrazas, comedor, cocina, regaderas y baños.

gresar con solo una cuota de recuperación para el mantenimiento del club.

Playa Paraíso Escondido

The beach at Lo de Marcos, a typical coastal town of the Riviera Nayarit, is very clean and almost always with enough space to sunbathe and enjoy a tropical cocktail. It’s also excellent for swimming thanks to its tranquil waters.

There are other charming little beaches nearby, such as Los Venados, Las Minitas and El Atracadero, which are not very frequented, meaning you can pretty much turn them into your own private beaches for a day. They have few services, so it’s better to bring everything you need.

Esta playa se localiza al norte de la Peñita de Jaltemba, en la colonia Paraíso Escondido, muy cerca del nuevo complejo turístico de Costa Canuva. El acceso a la playa es a través de un camino que conecta con la carretera federal 200, o por la propia colonia paraíso Escondido. Muy cerca se encuentra playa El Naranjo, de oleaje intenso, ambiente paradisíaco y hermosos paisajes, donde se localiza el campamento Tortuguero del mismo nombre. ¿Conoces alguna de estas playas en la Riviera Nayarit? Playa Punta Raza Punta Raza is a vast area of soft golden sand, facing a sea of intense waves and turquoise waters. To reach the beach you have to walk a narrow road from the town of El Monteón, with access from the Federal Highway 200 (7 kilometers from Rincón de Guayabi-

tos). The Punta Raza Club is very close to the beach and has a pool, terraces, dining room, kitchen, showers, and bathrooms. Children can enjoy the facilities for free and adults can enter for a modest recovery fee for the maintenance of the club

Playa Paraíso Escondido This beach is located north of Peñita de Jaltemba, in the Paraíso Escondido development, very close to the new tourist complex of Costa Canuva. Access to the beach is through a road connecting to Federal Highway 200 or through the Paraíso Escondido development. El Naranjo beach, with its intense waves, idyllic environment, and beautiful landscapes, is very close-by. This is also where the homonymous turtle camp is located.

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) ome construction in the United States rose more than expected in October suggesting that the housing market continues to be supported by mortgage rates that are at record lows, even as the country's economic recovery is complicated by the rise in COVID-19 cases.

Wednesday's Commerce Department report followed data from the previous day that showed the smallest gain in retail sales in October since the recovery from the pandemic began in May. The economy is slowing as the momentum of fiscal stimulus wanes.

Home construction starts rose 4.9% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.53 million units last month. The September figure was revised up, to a rate of 1.459 million units from the 1.415 million that were initially reported.

Economists consulted by Reuters had projected 1.46 billion units.

Start-up activity increased in the West, South, and Midwest, but decreased in the Northeast. Home construction increased 14.2% year-on-year.

Construction of single-family homes, the largest share of the housing market, advanced 6.4% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,179 million units last month, the highest level since April 2007.

The beginnings for the volatile segment multifamily were unchanged at a rate of 351,000 units.

The housing market has largely ignored a weak job market, which has left more than 20 million Americans applying for unemployment assistance. The coronavirus recession, which started in February, has disproportionately affected people with lower wages.

For now, companies are taking advantage of strong demand, tight inventories, and low mortgage rates to boost construction. A poll on Tuesday showed confidence among single-family home builders rose to an all-time high in November.

Permits for future home construction were unchanged at a rate of 1.545 million units in October. Single-family building permits were up 0.6% to a rate of 1.12 billion units last month.

Building permits for multi-family housing projects fell 1.6% to a rate of 425,000 units.

Las peregrinaciones Guadalupanas

D

espués de la Basílica de San Pedro, en Roma, la Basílica de Guadalupe es el segundo templo más visitado del mundo. Las peregrinaciones a la Villa de Guadalupe son multitudinarias: recibe cada año unos 40 millones de visitantes entre peregrinos y turistas y, tan solo el 12 de diciembre de 2019, se contabilizaron 10 millones de peregrinos.

Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, conocida comúnmente como la Virgen de Guadalupe,1 es una aparición mariana de la Iglesia católica de origen mexicano, cuya imagen tiene su principal centro de culto en la Basílica de Guadalupe, ubicada en las faldas del cerro del Tepeyac, en el norte de la Ciudad de México.

De acuerdo a la tradición oral mexicana,2 y lo descrito por documentos históricos del Vaticano y otros encontrados alrededor del mundo en distintos archivos, María, la madre de Jesús se apareció en cuatro ocasiones al indígena chichimeca Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin en el cerro del Tepeyac, y en una ocasión a Juan Bernardino, tío de Juan Diego. El relato guadalupano conocido como Nican mopohua narra que tras la primera aparición, la Virgen ordenó a Juan Diego que se presentara ante el primer obispo de México, Juan de Zumárraga, para decirle que le erigieran un templo. Ante el escepticismo de Juan de Zumárraga pidió una prueba a Juan Diego.

En la última aparición de la Virgen y por orden suya, Juan Die-

go llevó en su ayate unas flores que cortó en el Tepeyac, se dirigió al palacio del obispado y desplegó su ayate ante el obispo Juan de Zumárraga, dejando al descubierto la imagen de la Virgen María.

Según el Nican Mopohua, texto hagiográfico publicado en el siglo XVII , las apariciones tuvieron lugar en 1531, ocurriendo la última el 12 de diciembre de ese mismo año. La fuente más importante que las relata fue el mismo Juan Diego, que habría contado todo lo que había acontecido. Posteriormente esta tradición oral fue recogida en un escrito con sonido náhuatl pero con caracteres latinos llamado el Nican mopohua, y es atribuido al indígena Antonio Valeriano (1522-1605).

fter St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Basilica of Guadalupe is the second most visited temple in the world. The pilgrimages to the Villa de Guadalupe are massive: every year it receives around 40 million visitors, including pilgrims and tourists, and on December 12, 2019 alone, 10 million pilgrims were counted.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, commonly known as the Virgin of Guadalupe is a Marian apparition of the Catholic Church of Mexican origin, whose image has its main cult center in the Basilica of Guadalupe, located on the slopes of the Tepeyac hill, in the north of Mexico City.

According to the Mexican oral tradition, and what is described by historical documents of the Vatican and others found around the world in different archives, María, the mother of Jesus appeared on four occasions to the Chichimeca indigenous Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin on the Tepeyac hill, and on one occasion to Juan Bernardino, Juan Diego’s uncle. story known as Nican Mopohua narrates that after the first appearance, the Virgin ordered Juan Diego to show himself before the first bishop of Mexico, Juan de Zumárraga, to tell him to have a temple erected. 28 | DICIEMBRE/ DECEMBER 2020 | No. 365 Según diversos investigadores, el culto guadalupano es una de las creencias más históricamente arraigadas en el actual México y parte de su identidad, y ha estado presente en el desarrollo como país desde el siglo XVI incluso en sus procesos sociales más importantes como la Independencia de México, la de Reforma, la Revolución mexicana y en la sociedad mexicana actual, en donde cuenta con millones de fieles, algunos de ellos profesantes como guadalupanos sin ser necesariamente parte del catolicismo.

La Basílica está ubicada al pie del Cerro del Tepeyac, cuya moderna construcción fue perfilada para acoger a 10.000 fieles en su interior y que cada uno pueda, desde cualquier punto, admirar la famosa imagen grabada en el ayate de Juan Diego (ahora santo).

Su nombre oficial es la Insigne y Nacional Basílica de Santa María de Guadalupe y se comenzó a construir, tal como hoy día la conocemos, en 1974. Fue diseñada por los arquitectos José Luis Benlliure, Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, Alejandro Schoenhofer, Fray Gabriel Chávez de la Mora y Javier García Lascuráin, e inaugurada el 12 de diciembre de 1976.

Cada año, antes de la gran fiesta de diciembre y entre el 10 y 12 de octubre, inician las peregrinaciones más numerosas que vienen de todas partes del país, aunque durante todo el año hay constantes peregrinaciones a la Villa de Guadalupe. Este año la curia mexicana ha pedido a los creyentes que se abstengan de hacer los peregrinajes por causa del problema pándemico que estamos viviendo.

Esto no es de extrañar, si pensamos que el Cerro del Tepeyac ha sido, desde la época prehispánica, un punto neurálgico en cuanto a peregrinajes. Desde la época prehispánica, se encontraba el santuario más importante de la divinidad nahua de la tierra y la fertilidad. Esta diosa era llamada Coatlicue (cóatl-cuéitl, ‘señora de la falda de serpientes’, en náhuatl), que por otros nombres también fue conocida como Tonantzin (to-nan-tzin, ‘nuestra adorable madrecita’, en náhuatl), nombre que le fue dado posteriormente por los indígenas. Por

ello, la zona fue una de las primeras en ser tomadas en cuenta para el proceso de evangelización cristiana, siendo los frailes franciscanos quienes comenzaron la labor misionera en el Tepeyac. Tras 10 años de ardua labor con los indígenas, seguramente reticentes a abandonar a sus antiguos dioses, sucedió en 1531 el llamado “milagro guadalupano”, que transformó la vida de la zona y, posteriormente, de todo un país. A partir de esto, en 1533 se fundó el pueblo de Guadalupe y se construyó la primera ermita que años después cedió su lugar a un templo más grande.

Hacia 1676, el culto mariano comenzó a atraer gran cantidad de fieles, quienes llegaban por la antigua calzada que unía al Tepeyac con Tlatelolco, por lo cual ese mismo año se decidió construir quince grandes monumentos a lo largo de ella, que representaban los misterios del Rosario. Los monumentos estaban separados con la suficiente distancia para que los peregrinos, al ir avanzando, tuvieran oportunidad de rezar diez aves marías. According to various researchers, the Guadalupe cult is one of the most historically rooted beliefs in present-day Mexico and part of its identity, and has been present in the development as a country since the 16th century, including in its most important social processes such as the Independence of Mexico, the Reform, the Mexican Revolution and in current Mexican society, where it has millions of faithful, some of them professing as Guadalupanos without necessarily being part of Catholicism.

The Basilica is located at the foot of Cerro del Tepeyac, whose modern construction was outlined to welcome 10,000 faithful inside and that each one can, from any point, admire the famous image engraved on the ayate of Juan Diego (now a saint). Its official name is the Insigne and National Basilica of Santa María de Guadalupe and the construction began, as we know it today, in 1974. It was designed by

the architects José Luis Benlliure, Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, Alejandro Schoenhofer, Fray Gabriel Chávez de la Mora and Javier García Lascuráin, and inaugurated on December 12 of 1976.

Every year, before the great festival in December and between October 10 and 12, the most numerous pilgrimages that come from all over the country begin, although throughout the year there are constant pilgrimages to the Villa de Guadalupe.

This year the Mexican curia has asked believers to refrain from making pilgrimages because of the pandemic problem we are experiencing.

This is not surprising, if we think that the Cerro del Tepeyac has been, since pre-hispanic times, a neuralgic point in terms of pilgrimages. Since pre-hispanic times, it was the most important sanctuary of the Nahuatl divinity of land and fertility. This goddess was called Coatlicue (coatl-cuéitl, ‘lady in the skirt of serpents’, in Nahuatl), who by other names was also known as Tonantzin (to-nan-tzin, ‘our adorable little mother’, in Nahuatl), name which was later given to her by the natives. For this reason, the area was one of the first to be taken into account for the process of Christian evangelization, being the Franciscan friars who began the missionary work in Tepeyac. After 10 years of arduous work with the indigenous people, surely reluctant to abandon their ancient gods, the so-called “Guadalupano miracle” happened in 1531, which transformed the life of the area and, later, of an entire

country. From this, in 1533 the town of Guadalupe was founded and the first hermitage was built, which years later gave its place to a larger temple.

Around 1676, the Marian cult began to attract a large number of believers, who came along the old road that linked Tepeyac with Tlatelolco, for which reason that same year it was decided to build fifteen large monuments along it, representing the mysteries of the rosary beads. The monuments were far enough apart so that the pilgrims, as they advanced, had the opportunity to pray ten hail marys. However, it is in the 18th century that the Guadalupano cult developed enormously.

Guadalupe Lozada León, in her “History of the Villa de Guadalupe through the centuries”, mentions that “this explosion of the Guadalupanismo of New Spain led the viceroys, before entering the capital that would be the seat of their mandate, to pass before the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe to implore the protection of her patronage ”. The ceremonies that were carried out were monumental, between masses, te deums, solemn processions and rosaries that lasted several days.

Once the Independence of Mexico was consummated, the Virgin of Guadalupe became another symbol to exalt the faith of the new country and an Imperial Order of Guadalupe was created, with which those who had participated with particular courage and bravery in defense of the homeland were rewarded.

In July of 1857, President Ignacio Comonfort inaugurated the railway to the Villa de Guadalupe, and from then on, travelers who traveled the Calzada de los Misterios aboard this new means of transport, were able to access it more easily. To be recognized the Reform Laws, the same that significantly affected government-clergy relations and religious practices in the country, it was President Benito Juárez himself who declared December 12 as a national holiday, confirming the strength of this tradition as rooted among the population.

Guadalupe Lozada León, en su “Historia de la Villa de Guadalupe a través de los siglos” , menciona que “esta explosión del guadalupanismo novohispano propició que los virreyes, antes de entrar a la capital que sería la sede de su mandato, pasaran ante la imagen de la Virgen de Guadalupe a implorar la protección de su patrocinio”. Las ceremonias que se llevaban a cabo resultaban monumentales, entre misas, tedeums, procesiones solemnes y rosarios que duraban varios días.

Una vez consumada la Independencia de México, la Virgen de Guadalupe se volvió un símbolo más para exaltar la fe del nuevo país y se creó una Orden Imperial de Guadalupe, con la que se premiaba a quienes habían participado con particular arrojo y valentía en la defensa de la patria.

En julio de 1857, el presidente Ignacio Comonfort inauguró el ferrocarril a la Villa de Guadalupe, y partir de entonces, los viajeros que recorrían a bordo de este novedoso medio de transporte la Calzada de los Misterios, pudieron acceder con mayor facilidad al Posteriormente, al ser reconocidas las Leyes de Reforma, las mismas que afectaron significativamente las relaciones gobierno-clero y las prácticas religiosas en el país, fue el propio presidente Benito Juárez quien declaró al 12 de diciembre como día de fiesta nacional, confirmando la fuerza de esta tradición tan enraizada entre la población.

En junio de 1864, Maximiliano y Carlota consideraron pertinente que la primera recepción oficial antes de llegar a la capital del país fuera su visita a la Basílica: caminaron por la calzada de Guadalupe y mostraron su respeto por la madre espiritual de su nueva patria.

Ya en el siglo XX, durante el gobierno del presidente Miguel Alemán, se dio pie a la modernización de la calzada de Guadalupe, con lo que se facilitó el caminar de los peregrinos. El gobierno derribó las casas que obstruían la vista del templo y construyeron frente a éste el llamado Atrio de las Américas, inaugurado en 1952.

Construido entre 1792 y 1797, el antiguo templo guadalupano sufría por la inestabilidad del subsuelo y un grave hundimiento apreciable a simple vista, por lo que había que salvaguardar la venerada imagen y a sus miles de visitantes. En 1950 se comen-

zó a realizar una colecta a nivel nacional para la construcción de la nueva Basílica. Muchos fueron los personajes políticos, sociales y culturales que se sumaron a la causa, en especial Pedro Infante, el ídolo de México, quien en 1954 hizo un maratón televisado a la Virgen de Guadalupe que duró más de 30 horas sin interrupciones.

Desde 1976, millones de peregrinos han visitado a “la morenita del Tepeyac”, para agradecerle por su intercesión en los favores recibidos. Año tras año, en cada arquidiócesis del país se planean y se apartan las fechas en que se realizará la visita. Además, se encarga una misa para obtener la bendición expresa para cada iglesia, cofradía, capilla o grupo ahí representado.

Desde todos puntos del país llegan en camiones, en bicicletas y a pie personas de todas edades y condiciones sociales. Ya sea llevando la imagen en cuadros o “de bulto”, portando el llamado fuego guadalupano. Entran al atrio de rodillas, con y sin nopales, porque sí, todavía hay quienes creen que solo es posible obtener la intercesión divina a través de la mortificación de la carne.

Entre las peregrinaciones más pintorescas, destacan las más de 1600 asociaciones de danzantes que año con año llegan hasta el recinto, haciéndolo vibrar al ritmo de su baile, sus sonajas, teponaxtlis (tambores) e instrumentos de viento.

He has worked in luxury destinations in the Fiji Islands, São Paulo and Argentina. But he assures that Mexico has a unique charm, especially the Pacific Coast, which continues to attract international tourism of the highest level despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Emberson is director of operations and marketing in Punta Mita.

This is a luxury destination in Nayarit that has managed to rebound during the pandemic despite the fact that there is a maximum occupancy restriction of 30%.

The executive indicated that destinations that offer a sense of belonging and community "highend" with the sale of vacational real estate provide a refuge from Covid-19, and confinement, to an international clientele with the highest purchasing power.

Option two is metal. In metal, you can choose from stainless steel, wrought iron or aluminum. All three types are all-weather materials. If you are placing the furniture in a windy area, the stainless steel and wrought iron are less likely to slide. Generally, metal frames are covered in a powder-coated paint.
