6 | Marzo 2014 | PJ No. 313 These planetary recounts are to say the life of Jan has been a constant journey and his work is in a perpetual move. His art is conceived and bares fruit in a sort of permanent transit. It is for Hendrix a natural task to manage all formats, and the experience on every scale.

He has worked as well with architects and engravers, also with designers and writers. He is the photographer and the plastic artist, always experimenting with different genres, always playing with techniques and challenging boundaries that s at the same time separate and reunite a diversity of artistic disciplines. His work represents the process of bringing a drawing to the graphic and from there to architecture Jan Hendrix is born in the town of Maasbree in Holand in the heart of a family profoundly rooted in agricultural life of the region, that drastically opposed to the artist trade he had chosen, at the age of 16 after failing constantly all school assignments excluding drawing. Among his childhood memories, there is one in particular after a day in the country, the visit to a local museum reminiscent of the Kunst und Wunderkammer that would be a reference of his ulterior work. Expelled from the paternal house at the age of 17 he enters the Den Bosch Royal Art Academy, form where he is thrown to the street for his rebel attitude. Later he enters the Atelier 63 in the City of Haarlem, the most radical teaching institution at the time (1968-69). He meets his mentors there that would introduce him though the movies and dance to a multidisciplinary vision of art.

The unorthodox formation of these years drives him to approach several projects of productions Art Books among them Beau Geste Press in Devonshire England, where he meets the Mexican Martha Hellion whom he would later marry. In 1975, Hendrix is granted a scholarship from the Dutch Ministry of Culture that he uses to travel to Mexico, with the idea to study Mexican Land Scape. His first contact is Jose Chavez Morado who invites him to open a serigraphy workshop in the Alhondiga de Granaditas in Guanajuato to make the register of the cylindrical stamps from the pre Colombian collection of Frederick Fields.After the birth of his son Jonas in México City, Hendrix stars visiting Luis Lopez Loza workshop a collective space in the Condesa Buildings, where, Emilio Ortiz, Fiona Alexander and Leonora Carrington

Este recuento planetario vale para decir que la vida de Jan es un constante recorrido y que su obra está en perpetuo movimiento. Su arte se concibe, se fecunda, se gesta y da frutos en una suerte de tránsito permanente. De allí, quizá, que para Hendrix sea cosa natural el manejo de todos los formatos, la experiencia de todas las escalas.

Ha trabajado lo mismo con arquitectos que con grabadores, igual con diseñadores que con escritores. Y él es tan fotógrafo como artista plástico, siempre experimentando con los géneros, siempre jugando con las técnicas y desafiando las fronteras que simultáneamente separan y hermanan las más diversas disciplinas artísticas.

Su obra presenta el proceso de llevar el dibujo a la gráfica y de ahí a la arquitectura.

Jan Hendrix nace en el poblado de Maasbree, Holanda, en el seno de una familia profundamente arraigada a la vida agrícola de la región y quienes se oponen drásticamente al oficio de artista que desde los 16 años escoge Hendrix, por haber fallado persistentemente en todas las materias es-

colares excepto el dibujo. Entre sus recuerdos de infancia destaca un día de campo, a bordo del primer coche que adquiere su padre y una visita a un museo local, reminiscente del Kunst und Wunderkammer que habría de ser una referencia clara en su obra posterior.

Expulsado de la casa paterna, a sus 17 años ingresa a la Real Academia de Arte de Den Bosch (pueblo natal de El Bosco), de donde es echado a la calle por su conducta rebelde. Luego, ingresa al Atelier 63 de la ciudad de Haarlem, la institución educativa más radical de ese momento (1968-69).

Ahí conoce a sus mentores que, a través del cine y de la danza, lo introducen a una visión más multidisciplinaria del arte.

La formación poco ortodoxa de estos años, lo conduce a acercarse a diversos proyectos de producción de Libros de Artista, entre ellos Beau Geste Press en Devonshire Inglaterra, donde conoce a la mexicana Martha Hellion, con la cual se casa. En 1975, Hendrix recibe una beca del Ministerio de Cultura de Holanda, que utiliza para viajar a México, con la encomienda de estudiar el paisaje mexicano. 10 | Marzo 2014 | PJ No. 313 a crear un taller de serigrafía en la Alhóndiga de Granaditas, en Guanajuato para hacer el registro de los sellos cilíndricos de la colección precolombina de Frederick Fields.

A partir del nacimiento en 1976 de su hijo Jonás en la ciudad de México, Hendrix frecuenta el taller de Luis López Loza, un espacio colectivo en los edificios Condesa, en donde trabajan Emilio Ortiz, Fiona Alexander y Leonora Carrington entre otros y un lugar de encuentro de la comunidad artística más activa de ese momento (artistas, galeristas, impresores, etc.). Ahí conoce a dos individuos que tendrán una gran influencia en su carrera, Francisco Toledo y Gunther Gerzso, con quien comparte sus ideas sobre la ética y la perseverancia del artista A partir de 1978 se establece definitivamente en México. Ya radicado en México, aquí establece su taller que dedica a la producción propia y a invitar a otros artistas de mexicanos a experimentar con la serigrafía, siguiendo la práctica de los talleres colectivos. En este periodo, por invitación de Alejandro Luna también trabaja en algunas escenografías para la Compañía Nacional de Teatro.

Paralelamente, inicia su investigación sobre la composición fractal, un ejercicio que le permite profundizar sobre el sentido de la escala y la búsqueda de soportes de papel que proporcionen un espacio con una atmósfera y carácter propios. A partir de un viaje a Kenya, la intensidad lumínica producida por su situación sobre el Ecuador, lo lleva a experimenta con la eliminación del color y el uso del alto contraste como elementos mínimos para la construcción del paisaje. El dibujo adquiere cada vez más importancia: las piezas que produce son dibujos transferidos a los diversos soportes que ha investigado y descubierto.

Una de las prácticas particulares de la producción de Hendrix es la colaboración con escritores para la edición de libros de autor meticulosamente ilustrados con obra original de Hendrix (con Gabriel García Márquez, Seamus Heaney, Bert Schierbeek, etc.).

Parallel to all this activity, he initiates to research about fractal composition, an exercise that permits him to get deep on the sense of scale and the search for paper support on the proportion of a space with an atmosphere of its own. After a trip to Kenya the luminous intensity of its location in the Equator takes him to experiment the elimination of color and the use of high contrast like minimal elements for the landscape construction. Drawing becomes increasingly important: the pieces he produces are drawings transferred to the foundation of his research and discoveries.

One of the singular practices on the production of Hendrix is the collaboration with writers for the publishing of books meticulously illustrated with Hendrix original works (Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Seamus Heaney, Bert Scheirbeek, etc).

Hendrix has had individual exhibits at the Bonnefanten Museum (Maastricht) Modern Art Museum in Mexico City. The Imerial Archive of The Forbidden City in Beijing, the Tropepnmuseum (Amsterdam), MACO (Oaxaca) y en el Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin).

Since 2007 Hendrix has a turn in his artistic production- The change comes from the design of a residence in the Canary Island; a piece the has its origin and inspiration in the research and analysis of the local landscape.

14 | Marzo 2014 | PJ No. 313 Hendrix ha tenido exposiciones individuales en el Bonnefanten Museum (Maastricht), el Museo de Arte Moderno (México D.F.), los Archivos Imperiales de la Ciudad Prohibida (Pekín), el Tropenmuseum (Ámsterdam), el MACO (Oaxaca), la Calcografía Nacional de la Real Academia de San Fernando (Madrid) y el Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublín).

A partir de la última década, dedica una parte importante de su tiempo a proyectos de colaboración arquitectónica, que despuntan en la investigación de la composición fractal, incorporándose al proyecto arquitectónico desde de su concepción.

Desde 2007, Hendrix opta por un giro decisivo frente a su producción artística. El cambio cobra vida a partir de una residencia en las Islas Canarias : una muestra que se origina (se inspira) en la investigación y el análisis del paisaje local.

Sin embargo –en una paradoja que recuerda las tribulaciones de Gulliver– el mayor anhelo de Hendrix sigue siendo el de inventar un timbre postal El trabajo de Jan Hendrix se ha vuelto un referente en ciudad de México; se ha filtrado por los muros, fachadas y patios de distintos edificios para ser parte de ellos. We cannot go to the Memory and Tolerance Museum without noticing the central cube wrapped with olive leaves. La Biblioteca Mexico “Jose Vasconcelos” is a important part of his work The most recent of his pieces is located in one of the most emblematic buildings of London “Africa House” for which Hendrix has experimented a fourth dimension “time”. The piece is a series of 5 pieces of seaweed placed one on top of the other in a vertical way in front of an elevator. The building is not open to the public yet, but Hendrix is intrigued as to know if a passenger will stop the elevator to observe at the piece.

n February 15 the Second Annual Vallarta Real Estate Fair took place at the Riviera Molino Plaza.

The event, organized by Timothy and Associates, convened a tremendous amount of attendees who gathered from 9 am to 2 pm.

This event is by far the most interesting public event that is done in the real state field in Puerto Vallarta, and its target is to give valuable information about different topics about the lifestyle available in Vallarta: issues about immigration, taxes, health services, new fiscal policies, investments, real estate and sales, loans, property management; issues all of extreme importance for the foreign community of Puerto Vallarta.

Several exhibitors presented information to people who went directly to the different

booths that were on the Plaza starting early in the morning.

At 11 am a series of conferences began by real estate leaders and banking experts, lawyers and notaries who updated the attendees in their disciplines. This panel of professionals had the opportunity to answer questions from the public which were formulated to them directly.

Congratulations to Carl Timothy who took on the responsibility of carrying out this event which purpose is to solve important issues for the American and Canadian Community that have to do with their real estate investments and quality of life.

reyendo en la energía de los objetos, en su personalidad, en su espíritu y su historia, a través de distintas perspectivas de diseño e investigación etnológica es como nace el concepto denominado “OBJETOS CON RAÍCES”.

Detrás de un objeto hay un concepto muy bien definido, el de crear una respuesta emocional inmediata y duradera; y detrás de este concepto, un diseñador cuya filosofía de trabajo es la de re-interpretar nuestras raíces, rescatando, preservando y difundiendo los valores de la artesanía a nivel global.

La intención primera es la de conservar este concepto y propiciar una difusión de expresiones artísticas centenares a través de objetos actuales en una fusión armónica, permitiendo un proceso de evolución en los mismos de forma contemporánea, sin dejar la raíz para lo que fueron concebidos.

En las expresiones artísticas intervienen multitud de factores, entre ellos la zona geográfica, el clima, las diferentes situaciones en que una sociedad se puede ver involucrada a lo largo de su historia, sus emociones, las relaciones con otras culturas... todos estos factores se unen para crear expresiones únicas y de un valor inestimable.

Todos estamos inmersos en estas expresiones

Cada lugar es único y así se manifiesta, mediante la elaboración de objetos, piezas decorativas, utensilios cotidianos, de los cuales y gracias a la sensibilidad de la mente que los imaginan, de las ma-

nos que los crean, todos podemos recrearnos en expresiones artísticas que tenemos la obligación de preservar.

Desde OBJETO queremos empezar un viaje que ha de recorrer todo el planeta, difundiendo sus diferentes culturas a través de las manifestaciones artísticas de mano de sus creadores, los artesanos.

Queremos aportar nuestro esfuerzo para que la artesanía tradicional pueda prevalecer y seguir evolucionando.
