RainTech Private Cloud: A Case Study Healthcare Provider: Eyecare and Vision Therapy Location: Aurora, CO Time in Business: 36 Years

We have you covered.

Introduction

A custom private cloud is a great solution to achieve scalability, security, uptime and performance for organizations with a high dependence on IT infrastructure, but that don’t want to break the bank on expensive server buildouts and refresh cycles. Servers no longer require big upfront purchases or more and more space in underfitted telecom rooms. They can now run on high performance, highly resilient infrastructure that’s both faster and more fault tolerant than most businesses can or will invest to achieve on their own. A custom cloud solution is tailored to fit the exact needs of every business, and is managed and secured by the same provider that designed and deployed it – so the customer gets the benefit of a state-of-the-art solution, built around their budget, with the direct relationship with a trusted service provider that owns the IT delivery ecosystem, end to end.

A high-end eyecare provider and vision therapy clinic in Aurora, CO was really struggling with IT. They’d invested heavily in top-of-the-line clinical and diagnostic tools and equipment to provide leading edge care to their patients, but were working with an IT provider that was unable to keep up with the technical and service demands of the bustling clinical operation. Their telecom room was bursting at the seams, with multiple Network Attached Storage appliances installed one after another, trying to accommodate the practice’s growing storage needs, and sitting next to outdated server hardware that desperately needed a top-down refresh. The IT provider could barely keep up with the support calls generated by this poorly scaled infrastructure, however, so they could never get out in front enough to execute on the necessary projects. They weren’t even working directly with the myriad number of software and hardware vendors the practice had relationships with. Something had to give.

"I would like to give a huge thanks to the team at RainTech that resolved every issue thrown their way!"

Background

In Comes RainTech

“I appreciate your attention to detail and you caring about us being up and running with patients. I feel like you have our backs! “

The practice had a relationship with a HIPAA compliance partner that also worked with several of RainTech’s other healthcare clients, so he made an introduction. The stakeholders found the prospect of a server hardware replacement and operating system upgrade daunting, to say the least, so a RainTech Solution Engineer designed a custom cloud solution to which they could migrate their data and applications in an orderly fashion, with only modest project costs be charged for onboarding. RainTech first moved them to redundant, faster Internet connections, that actually cost less than the enterprise fiber they had in place – 25x the bandwidth for about half the cost. They then deployed a dedicated virtual network in the RainTech datacenter, and then converted and migrated the customer’s existing servers to it. From there they upgraded the operating systems, and/or replaced the servers with fresh virtual machines, as necessary. They also engaged deeply with all the practice’s various hardware and software vendors, meticulously documenting all the various configurations and integrations. The practice is running all the same applications they always did, but now with on-demand scalable storage to keep up with their growing diagnostic imaging storage needs, all the compute horsepower they can ask for, and no old and slow onsite servers at all. The doctors can seamlessly access their EMR and other applications and data from anywhere, and their staff have a best-in-class help desk offering a single source for support for all their office technology.

“Thanks to you and your awesome, talented team for working your magic!”

The key to a custom cloud solution is that everything from the customer’s needs, applications and data, all the way through to the datacenter and hypervisor architecture, are completely and vertically integrated. Storage, compute, applications, data, security, management and support – all included in a single streamlined partnership between client and service provider.
