Hugh Leatherman Terminal - South Carolina Port Authority, Charleston, SC
Hugh Leatherman Terminal Vertical Construction project for the SC Port Authority includes a scope of work with 16 buildings and canopies totaling 103,000SF across a 286-acre site next to the Cooper River. This site is made of mostly stone which, in some spots, is as thick as 10’. Piles were over 90’ long for several buildings. Due to unsuitable soils, many of the building foundations had to have a moat dug around them for water (ground and tidal) to drain away so foundations could be poured. Buildings are rated for 147mph winds. At the very beginning of this project Samet’s team worked with the DNR on the relocation of protected least terns whose habitats were on site.
