March is National Nutrition Month!

Sustainability

2023 is the 50th anniversary of National Nutrition Month. This year’s theme is “Fuel for the Future”. The focus is on incorporating sustainable practices into the way that we live. Ways in which we can act more sustainably include buying fruits and vegetables that are in season, shopping locally, growing fresh produce and herbs at home, eating more plant-based meals, and purchasing foods without much packaging. Try using reusable bags and tupperware more often than plastic bags. Before grocery shopping, check your fridge and pantry to see what you can use up before buying new food. Using a shopping list will also help prevent any unnecessary purchases and food waste. Buy various forms of food. Frozen, canned, and dried are just as beneficial as fresh. Cooking more meals at home reduces waste from throw away to-go containers. Use leftovers in new fun ways to reduce waste.
