EQUALITY ORGANIZER: Located in Eastern Jackson County Frequently cited statistics show that femme, trans, and nonbinary people, as well as other structurally marginalized groups apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. PROMO encourages you to break that statistic and apply. No one ever meets 100% of the qualifications. PROMO’s team engages in hard work and heart work and the leadership team values authenticity, empathy, compassion, and kindness–we’re a close-knit team that works together regularly. About the team and you: At PROMO, we are committed to using an intersectional approach in our work. PROMO’s work focuses on macro-level systems change and our success is inherently tied to the collective liberation of all oppressed peoples. Our organizers recognize that PROMO is part of a larger ecosystem working collaboratively, which allows them to connect community members with a vast network of partner organizations in LGBTQ+ and sibling movements for direct service needs. POSITION DESCRIPTION Job Title: Equality Organizer Job Term: Full-time, salaried, January-December 2026, contract paid at $51,000 - $57,000/year Job Supervisor: Field Director Job Location: Eastern Jackson County, preference for Lee’s Summit. Travel-based. Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required. Hours: this is a 40 hour/week job that requires frequent evening and weekend work Background This is a one-year, time-bound contracted position, with potential for renewal if funding is available. The role was created in response to the need to fight for trans lives on the western side of Missouri. In its final days of the 2025 legislative session, the Missouri Legislature passed HJR 73 now called Amendment 3, or A3 — a legislatively-referred resolution asking voters to constitutionally ban healthcare for trans young people and undo the will of the people by re-banning abortion. PROMO joined partners in abortion and reproductive healthcare to form an executive committee to meaningfully bring to the table the voices of trans leaders and allies, the self-interest of trans Missourians, and the input of parents of trans kids. The Amendment will go to voters in November 2026. A3 is a ban on healthcare for trans youth AND access to abortion — plain and simple. With this resolution, Missouri is the first state to send a constitutional amendment to the ballot that asks the voters to take away rights from trans youth and their families. This manipulative move is meant to create confusion and trick voters into re-banning abortion in Missouri, while doubling down on attacking transgender kids and families. PROMO has been leading cutting-edge programming that has uniquely prepared us for this moment. Two years ago, we invested deeply in deep canvassing and narrative change projects, and have demonstrated our ability to run effective GOTV campaigns. In order to win at the ballot in 2026, we must massively scale that work, starting now. We can win in Missouri. And, if we win in Missouri, we can win anywhere. If we lose
in Missouri, the loss will be used as a blueprint to spread political violence against women and trans and non-binary people of all ages across the country. Too much is at stake to sit this one out.
