Al analizar los estilos de vida podrás identificar lo que verdaderamente quieres vender: Starbucks no vende café, vende un lugar con un ambiente determinado, que fue escogido en base a los estilos de los clientes. A su vez, Andatti analizó a su clientela y pudo descifrar que ellos buscaban instantaneidad, por lo que no tienen cafeterías ni empleados, sino máquinas en centros de distribución. Ambos venden el mismo producto pero los enfoques son determinados por el tipo de clientes. No vendemos producto, vendemos significado.

El ciclo de innovación comienza con la creatividad: un estímulo personal e íntimo que genera una idea que nadie ha tenido. El segundo paso del ciclo es la invención, que toma lugar cuando aterrizamos la idea en un producto o servicio. Finalmente la innovación sucede cuando encontramos un mercado que quiera comprar el producto. La innovación no es apuntar a todos lados, sino a un lado específico: ¿En qué quiero ser diferente?

Algo importante es poder diferenciar entre un cliente y un fan: a los clientes hay que seducirlos, los fans vienen por si solos. Debemos establecer un vínculo emocional con el cliente para que sean fidedignos a la marca. El 80% de las compras tienen que ver con emoción; diferentes estrategias usan el miedo, el amor, y la felicidad.

Se pueden distinguir tres tipos de deseos: los percibidos, los no percibidos, y los futuros. Los negocios promedio atacan los percibidos pues es lo que dice directamente el cliente, pero la oportunidad de crecimiento está en el no percibido, los que se conocen al estudiar el estilo de vida.

Los deseos futuros tienen que ver con tecnología y diseño y debemos preverlos.

Un tema clave que Luigi Valdés enfatiza es el de la vida personal. Si no estás contento y motivado con tu vida no vas a innovar y no serás creativo, pues no tienes la inspiración necesaria: el dinero es necesario pero no le da sentido a la vida.

Andatti on the other hand analyzed the clientele and deciphered that they search for immediacy, so they do not own coffee shops or even have employees, they distribute coffee machines in different service centers. They both sell the same product but the focus is dependent on the type of client. We don’t sell a product, we sell meaning.

The innovation cycle starts with creativity: a personal and intimate stimulus that generates an idea no one has had. The second step is invention, which takes place when we land the idea into a product or service. Finally, innovation happens when we find a market willing to buy it.

Innovation is not aiming everywhere, but to one specific target: How do I want to be different?

Something important is to be able to tell the difference between a client and a fan: clients have to be seduced, fans come by themselves. We must establish an emotional link with the client so they become faithful to the brand. 80% of sales are related to emotion; different strategies use fear, love, and happiness.

We can distinguish three types of desires: perceived, non-perceived, and future desires. Average businesses will attack the perceived ones since that is what the client literally says, but the real opportunity is in identifying the non-perceived one, by studying the client’s lifestyle. Future desires are related to technology and design and we must foresee them.

A key topic that Luigi Valdes emphasizes is that of our personal lives. If you are not happy and motivated at life, you will not innovate nor be creative, for the inspiration is lacking: money is necessary but will not make sense out of life.

Su vínculo generacional se define por un momento en la historia que marcó la vida colectiva: la revolución digital, nuevos esquemas de autoridad y la ruptura de límites y tabúes.

Las últimas dos décadas han visto más innovación tecnológica que el resto del siglo. No es opción hacer las cosas de la antigua forma tradicional; la nueva forma es estar listos para el futuro, tener una empresa predictiva The last two decades have seen more technological innovation than the rest of the century. que sean más inteligentes que un humano. Por ejemplo, Facebook usa tecnología Neuronet, una innovación que permite estimar predicciones, y así descubrió un nuevo modelo para el mercado de valores. Al menos el 20% de los cambios en bolsa de valores se hacen con tecnología Neuronet.

En los últimos 36 meses hemos desarrollado un mapping de un nuevo genoma. También tenemos automóviles que llevan gente sin conductor. Todas éstas tecnologías han cambiado el terreno de juego y ayudan a crear un Futuro Extremo. Ahora podemos hacer hack a la materia, la vida, y hasta el clima: Crecemos órganos, imprimimos comida, y administramos la temperatura.

Así vemos un trend en medicina: la amplificación humana. Vivimos más y nuestra opinión en salud, medicina, alimento, y enfermedad es diferente. La mejora o amplificación humana es la única forma de tener gente que viva más tiempo y más sano.

Otra moda o trend que apenas comienza es el de la fusión de comida y salud: Nutrogenética. Esto es algo muy particular de los millennials donde todos tienen su propia individualidad y opción de nutrición. Podemos crecer exactamente el tipo de comida necesaria para mejorar en problemas de salud específicos.

Algo que también involucra a los millennials es la conectividad digital. Puede sonar familiar pero no hablamos de conexión móvil ni de I.A. sino de un estilo de vida cultural. Ya tenemos máquinas inteligentes, y tenemos máquinas con conectividad con humanos, pero la idea de objetos inteligentes conectándose con otros objetos inteligentes no la hemos visto antes. Pensemos en la computadora enviando información al auto para navegar el tráfico mejor. Puede in

prendiendo a adaptarnos a la nueva realidad retamos las ideas tradicionales en la empresa. Los negocios que serán exitosos son los que estén dispuestos a romper esquemas primero, o sino la competencia lo hará: No nos movemos hacia atrás en el tiempo, nos movemos hacia el futuro y es tiempo de preguntarnos si estamos listos para él.

La primer iniciativa en la que necesitamos participar es incrementar el talento. De momento atraer a la nueva generación no es una prioridad para muchos pero tenemos que comenzar a planear lo que la empresa necesitará en diez, veinte y treinta años. La gente que contratemos hoy estará a cargo de la compañía en el futuro. Debemos encontrar personas con consciencia predictiva, liderazgo ágil, y toma de decisiones inteligente.

Esto nos lleva a los negocios más lucrativos del presente siglo. Primero, la Biotecnología: Con el incremento de innovación y tecnología tendremos acceso a la información en nuestros genes para poder predecir nuestra salud. También tenemos la Neurotecnología, que estudia la forma en que el cerebro trabaja. Esto se conecta con la Inteligencia Artificial donde hemos diseñado máquinas a forma de sinapsis cerebrales para que puedan “pensar” como personas.

La Nanotecnología sigue a las industrias de salud, con la manipulación de materia a nivel atómico. Este es un mercado de 10 mil millones de dólares. Finalmente, la tecnología Cuántica ha hecho grandes avances que involucran energía, luz, y campos magnéticos.

El aumento de la Inteligencia Artificial creará nuevos trabajos y al mismo tiempo resolver problemas que antes no podíamos ni entender. Podríamos tener máquinas de I.A.

La otra clave tiene que ver con longevidad y un mejor proceso de muerte. Como sociedad debemos decidir qué hacer con las enfermedades y la medicina predictiva. El cuidado de la salud será punto importante siendo el mercado más grande del siglo XXI. Con una población global que se ha doblado en los últimos 45 años, para el 2025 tendremos al 80% de los 8 mil millones de habitantes del mundo viviendo en naciones en desarrollo; 9 mil millones en 2050. La próxima clase media (China, India, Latinoamérica) tiene implicaciones que cambiarán la demanda de proteína, granos y petróleos. Surgirán competidores no tradicionales.

La fertilidad en todos los países desarrollados ha caído debajo del promedio de reemplazo de 2.1. El mundo en desarrollo ( Japón, Norteamérica, Europa) está despoblándose y no hay reemplazo para la baja fertilidad, así que las empresas no encontrarán talento y tendrán problemas de productividad. Los retos en países en vía de desarrollo son los opuestos, pues hay un polo joven que sigue creciendo.

Estamos armando más información que nunca antes, pero ¿Cuál es el significado de lo que extraemos de los datos? ¿Dónde está el valor de negocio? Extraer cada pieza informativa no significa grandes descubrimientos. En un tiempo de saturación, debemos ser selectivos. Tendremos que ser muy inteligentes respecto a lo que coleccionamos y el significado que le damos, para poder prepáranos para el futuro.

The first initiative we need to partake is the increase of talent. At the moment attracting the new generation is not a top priority for many, but we need to start planning what the company will need in ten, twenty, or thirty years.

The people we hire today will run the company in the future. We need to find people with predictive awareness, agility leadership, and smart decision making.

This leads us to the top grossing businesses to come in the century. First and foremost, Biotechnology: Accessing our genes information to predict our health future will see a rise as new technology is created. We also have Neurotechnology which studies the way the brain works. This links to Artificial Intelligence, where we now have computers designed like brain synapses and can think like people.

Nanotechnology will come close to health industries with the manipulation of matter at the atomic level. This is a 10-billion-dollar marketplace. Finally, Quantum technology will make great advancements involving energy, light, and magnetic fields.

The rise of Artificial Intelligence for example, is going

to make new jobs but also solve problems we have never been able to understand. We could end up with A.I. machines that are smarter than humans. For example, Facebook is using Neuronet technology, an innovation that helps in estimating predictions and they figured out how to create a new model to do stock trading. At least 20% of stock trades are now done through Neuronet technology.

In the past 36 months we have developed the mapping of a new genome. We also have automobiles that take people without drivers. All of these new technologies are game changers that will help create an Extreme Future. We are now hacking matter, life, and even climate: We can grow organs, print food, and manage weather.

We’re looking at a new trend in medicine: human enhancement. We now live longer, and our views on health, medicine, food, and disease are different. Human enhancement is the only way to keep people who live longer, healthier.

Another trend that is already beginning to be seen, is the fusion of food and health: Nutrogenetics. This is very particular of millennials where everybody has their own individuality and choice of nutrition. We can grow exactly the type of food needed to improve on particular health problems.

Something else involving millennials is digital connectivity. This may sound familiar but we’re not talking about mobile connectivity or even A.I. This is a cultural lifestyle. We already have machine intelligence, and we also have machines with connectivity to humans, but the idea of smart things connecting with other smart things,

machine to machine, we haven’t seen before. Think of the internet sending information to your car so it can better navigate. It could even be possible for a machine to fix themselves if they sense a problem The other key trend has to do with longevity and a better dying process. We as a society will have to decide what to do with predictive disease, and predictive medicine. Healthcare is going to be a key driver, the largest market in the 21st century.

With a Global Population that has doubled over the past 45 years, by 2025 were looking at 80% of the worlds 8 billion people living in developing nations; 9 billion by 2050. The next middle class (China, India, Latin-American) has implications that will change the demands for protein, grains and oils. Non-traditional competitors will have to emerge.

Fertility in every developed country has fallen beneath the replacement rate of 2.1. The developing world ( Japan, North America, Europe) is depopulating, and there’s a lack of replacement for low fertility, so companies will not find talent and will face productivity problems. But the challenges in the developing world is the opposite, you have a youth pole that keeps growing.

We are assembling more data than ever before, but what is the meaning of what we extract from this data?

Where is the business value? Extracting every piece of data does not equal to great things. In a time of oversaturation, we must be very selective. We’re going to have to be very smart about what we collect and the meaning we give to it, in order to better prepare for the future.

La innovación no está llegando a los anaqueles y cuando lo hace el consumidor no hace la referencia con la empresa, dejando en tiendas el producto. En consecuencia hay un temor a desarrollar innovación específica para un target determinado; la innovación “de nicho” no ha sido explorada por ésta razón. Por igual, hay un temor a poner valor monetario a la innovación: ventas pone un precio bajo pero innovación lo pone alto. Esto se debe a que hemos crecido con una estructura enfocada en reducir costos, pero en temas de innovación se necesita de mayor inver-

Innovation is not reaching stores and when it does the consumer does not make a reference to the brand, leaving the product behind. Consequently, there is a fear of developing specific innovation for a determined market; “niche innovation” has not been explored for this reason.

At the same time there is a fear to put monetary value on innovation: the sales team wants a low price but the innovation team wants a higher one. This is because we have grown with a structure focused on reducing costs, but when it comes to innovation we need a major invest-

ment. A business should target 10% of the company to the innovation.

On average, in Spain, 20% of stores are reached by businesses of great consumption; Sigma only reaches 11%. Ideally we would imagine new tendencies in order to be the firsts to reach them. All competitors are buying the same information and getting to the same results as we are. We must step ahead.

One study shows that the brands who grow the most are the ones that reach new homes. We must build stronger brands, reach the widest market, and gain visibility in stores.

At the same time we must not launch products that satisfy everyone, instead we need multiple products that satisfy a specific niche, and in the sum of all of them, we can satisfy the collective market.

On top of that there is a desire by consumers to have more information and transparency regarding the products they buy. More and more we see brands that tell a story: they are interested in knowing who planted the potatoes they consume and the origins of the meat they bought.

Each country has specific interests, in the Netherlands for example, there is a bigger emphasis on the care of animals and in Italy there is a 10% of the population that considers themselves vegetarians, so we must offer meat substitutes.

The important question is: How do we take these products to the market? We started exploring the possibilities through a wellbeing line, experimenting with new and exotic flavors, and reforming both the product and its design.

Debemos adelantarnos.

Un estudio demuestra que las marcas que más crecen son las que más consiguen atraer hogares nuevos. Debemos construir marcas más fuertes, alcanzar el número más amplio posible, y ganar visibilidad en la tienda.

De igual forma no debemos lanzar productos que satisfagan a todos, sino tener el suficiente número de productos que satisfagan a ciertos nichos, y en la suma de todos, satisfacer al colectivo.

Además hay un deseo de los consumidores de tener más información y transparencia sobre los productos. Cada vez hay más marcas que cuentan una historia: les interesa saber quién planto las patatas que consumen, y el origen de la carne que han comprado. Cada país tiene su interés particular, en Países Bajos por ejemplo, hay un mayor énfasis en el cuidado animal para los productos, y en Italia hay una población vegetariana de 10%, así que tenemos que ofrecer sustitutos.

La pregunta importante es: ¿Cómo llevamos éstos productos al mercado? Comenzamos a explorar la solución a través de nuestras líneas de bienestar, experimentando nuevos sabores, y reformando tanto producto como diseño.

Francisco Villarreal, Director de Quesos, Cremas y Untables, comparte su experiencia acumulada en más de 24 años dentro de la empresa. Agrega además que debemos usar bien el tiempo que dedicamos a desarrollar ideas y conceptos, usar expertos y herramientas de clase mundial y entender el problema que vamos a resolver antes de generar ideas.

Respecto al consumidor, necesitamos ser mejores observadores, pues es común que la innovación sea generada respecto a nuestra experiencia y no la de nuestros clientes. No

In consumer relations, we need to be better observers, since it is common to innovate from our own experience and not the clients’. We must not forget that they

En quesos hemos ganado 10% de mercado en 5 años, pero en yogurt la competencia ha bajado costos y trae innovación fuerte, lo que presenta una amenaza a nuestra empresa. Por otro lado, en carnes frías, las reglas del juego cambian pues la competencia es fuerte y agresiva. Esto significa que la prioridad es hacer fuerte innovación.

Aún nos falta estar 100% presentes cuando entrevistamos o vamos a un focus group. Traemos grandes ideas pero no recibimos bien la información y al momento de detectar la oportunidad, fallamos. Nuestra participación en entrevistas a amas de casa es baja, pues nos apoyaos de terceros, lo que provoca que nosotros mismos no sabemos dónde los consumidores gastan la mayor parte de su tiempo. En consecuencia nuestra innovación es defectiva.

Francisco enfatiza la diferencia entre aprender y escalar, pues comúnmente no nos permitimos aprender por temor a no tener el equipo tecnológico necesario, pero ese es un paso secundario al encontrar un producto exitoso que requiere escalarse.

El caso más reciente es el de Margarina La Villita, que se encuentra en etapa de creación de prototipos. La intención era mostrar al ama de casa algo físico que nos dijera si el producto era atractivo para ellas o no, mucho más allá que el diseño, o gramaje. Tras su éxito, el siguiente paso es encontrar la forma de producirlo al mercado nacional.

When it comes to Cheese, we have won 10% of the marketplace in 5 years, but in Yogurt the competition has lowered costs and brings strong innovation, which is a threat to our company. In processed meats, the game rules have changed since the competition is strong and aggressive. This means that our priority shoud be focused on innovation.

We still need to be 100% present when we interview people or go to a focus group. We have big ideas but are not welcoming of feedback, so when we detect an opportunity, we fail. Our participation in interviews for householders is low, because we lean on third parties, which leads to not understanding our customers’ lifestyles and time spent. In consequence, our innovation is defective.

Francisco emphasizes the difference between learning and escalating, for we commonly don’t allow ourselves to learn because we don’t have the necessary equipment, but that is a second step when we find a successful product that requires escalating.

The most recent case is one from La Villita Margarine, which is in a prototype stage. The intention was to show householders something they can physically see so they can tell us if the product is attractive to them or not, much beyond design and product size. After its success, the next step is to find the way to produce it and sent it to the national market.

Cuál es tu imagen del futuro? Hay 3 preguntas muy específicas que debemos preguntarnos antes: ¿Qué es probable? ¿Qué es posible? Y ¿Cuál es tu preferencia de futuro? Una vez que deduzcamos si el futuro tiene más personas, o más tecnología, y diferentes modelos de negocio, podemos aprender sobre futuros posibles o probables y alinearnos con nuestra preferencia de futuro.

Desde una perspectiva de negocio, podemos hacer incluso una pregunta más para navegar la idea del futuro: ¿Qué es tanto probable como posible y se encuentra fuera de los lineamientos de nuestro modelo de negocio tradicional? ¿Qué pasa si no evolucionamos? La idea del futuro no es predecirlo sino proyectarlo al presente para saber cómo actuar hoy. Hay algunas fuerzas que conducen a moldear el futuro: la sociedad y su demografía, tecnología y ciencia, economía y mercados, medio ambiente y energía, y política y reglamentos.

En 2050 la población mundial se reducirá en ciertos lugares del planeta, gracias a un bajo índice de fertilidad. La gente de más de 65 años será el grupo más grande y más creciente; ahora vivimos más y desarrollamos diferentes necesidades. Se desarrollarán productos manipulados de

manera molecular, como carne crecida en laboratorios como si fueran plantas. Habrá áreas de plantío en nuestras residencias y áreas de trabajo; todo para satisfacer una demanda creciente.

Solemos pensar que los millennials son la generación nueva, pero la realidad es que la generación Z ya comienza a entrar a las filas de trabajo y debemos avanzar con ellos: son la primer generación realmente del internet, crecieron con smartphones y pantallas; no aceptan versiones anticuadas de negocio.

Un cambio más que podemos anticipar es la migración a las ciudades. En el pasado la mayoría de la gente vivía en el campo, pero en el 2007 se cruzó esa línea y ahora más gente vive en ciudades que en el campo. En el futuro hasta un 80% de la gente vivirá en ciudades.

Estaremos cada vez más conectados con el crecimiento y distribución de tecnologías. En el 2005 tan solo 33 de cada cien personas tenían smartphones, mientras que ahora 87 de cada cien los tienen. Hacemos cada vez más invenciones, porque ahora podemos aprender ideas nuevas y compartirlas. Las máquinas harán todo más barato y más rápido.

hat is your image of the future? There are 3 more specific questions to ask: what is probable? What is possible? And what is our preferred future? Once we know if the future will have more people, or technology, and different business models, we can learn from probable or possible futures and align them with our preferred future. So from a business perspective, we can make one more question to help us better navigate to the future: What is probable and possible outside the lining of our business model and the way we normally do things, that we could be doing already?

What happens if we don’t evolve? The idea of the future is not to predict but to fold back to the present so we know what to do right now. There are some driving forces that can shape the future, like: Society and Demographics, Technology and Science, Economy and Markets, Environment and Energy, and Politics and Regulations.

In 2050 the world population will decline in certain parts of the planet, due to a low fertility rate. People over the age of 65 are the largest growing group; now people live longer and develop different needs. We will develop products

that are managed at a molecular level, like meat that is grown like a plant in a laboratory. We will have crops in our residences and work areas; all to satisfy a growing demand.

We tend to think of the millennials as the current generation but the truth is that Generation Z has already started on the workforce and we need to move on with them: They are the first real internet generation, they grew up with smartphones and screens; they will not accept old versions of business.

One more change we can anticipate is migration to cities. In the past most people lived in the countryside, but in 2007 we crossed the line and now more people live in cities. In the future 80% of world will live in cities.

We will be even more connected with the growth and distribution of technologies. In 2005 only 33 out of 100 people had smartphones, whereas now 87 people do. We are making more inventions, because we can now learn new ideas and share them. To sum up, machines are making everything cheaper, faster, and we need to evolve with them.

n una dinámica y activa plática, Glen Hiemstra convierte al auditorio en un workshop dónde influencia el proceso de planificación de Sigma para innovar aún más. Si estamos por crear nuestra preferida imagen del futuro de forma exitosa, ¿cómo se vería Sigma y qué estaría haciendo en el 2025? Una vez que nos hizo éstas preguntas, los asistentes pudieron trabajar en grupos para después compartir sus resultados.

El futuro se moldea con una idea que impacte al menos a 1 millón de personas. Para poder encontrar esa idea necesitamos primero hacernos las ya estudiadas preguntas: ¿Qué es probable? ¿Qué es posible? Y ¿Cuál es tu futuro preferido?

Algunas cosas que sabemos serán probables en diez años son que los temas medioambientales serán importantes, que la clase media crecerá de forma exponencial, y que los carros auto-conducibles comenzarán a aparecer. Por otro lado, hay cosas que sabemos son posibles pero no necesariamente probables, así que si queremos moldear el futuro a nuestra versión preferida, debemos comenzar con nuestra planeación estratégica.

El reto de una buena planeación estratégica es cambiar el presente para afectar al futuro. Fuera de los lineamientos empresariales podemos

incluir cosas que no son probables y que no sucederán si no hacemos algo de forma diferente.

Si ésta es nuestra visión preferencial del futuro, ¿Qué debemos hacer hoy? ¿Qué modas son las más importantes para que Sigma les preste atención? Hablamos de eventos, trends, y desarrollos, como elecciones presidenciales, flujos de migración, inventos, y sus implicaciones. Debemos comenzar a aprender sobre las cosas que serán grandes en 2020 y 2025; tenemos que prepararnos para ese futuro y así comenzar a actuar. Aprende. Prepara. Haz. Repite. Esa es la fórmula.

Las agrupaciones de la actividad idearon propuestas relacionadas con energía sustentable, rapidez en la organización, cadenas de distribución más eficientes, mejor branding, y rentabilidad.

Muchas ideas se repitieron, demostrando una unidad en la dirección general de la empresa.

El tema principal a lo largo de la actividad fue que el futuro no es algo que simplemente sucede, sino algo que hacemos, pero al mismo tiempo lo opuesto también es cierto: el futuro crea el presente. Lo más poderoso que puedes hacer para cambiar una organización es cambiar el futuro, y el presente le seguirá.

n a dynamic and active talk, Glen Hiemstra turns the room into a workshop where he influences our planning process to further innovate in Sigma. If we’re successfully creating our preferred future, what would Sigma look like and be doing in 2025? Once he asked these questions, attendees got to work in groups to later share their results.

You shape the future with an idea that impacts 1 million people. In order to come up with that idea we need to follow the already mentioned questions: what is probable? What is possible? And what is our preferred future?

Some things we know to be probable in ten years is that environmental issues will be big, the middle class will grow exponentially, and self-driving cars will start to appear. On the other hand, there are things that are possible but not necessarily probable, so to shape the future into our preferred vision we need to start to plan strategically.

The task of good strategic planning is to shape the present to shape the future.

Outside the boundaries of business, we may include things that are not probable, and will not happen unless we do something different. If that is our preferred vision, what do we have to do now?

What are the most important trends for Sigma to pay attention to? We’re talking about events, trends, and developments, like presidential elections, migration fluxes, inventions, and their implications. We need to start learning about the things that will be big in 2020 and 2025; we need to prepare for said future and in order to do so we need to start acting now. Learn.

Prepare. Do. Repeat. This is the formula.

The working clusters came up with ideas related with sustainable energy, faster organization, efficient supply chains, better branding, and profitability. Many ideas were repeated, proving a general unity and direction in the company.

The main theme all throughout the activity was that the future is not something that just happens, but something we do; however, the opposite is also true: the future also creates the present. The most powerful way you change an organization is to change the future, and the present will follow.

a realidad de Latinoamérica es diferente en cada país, México tiene 122 millones de habitantes que tienen un consumo per cápita de carnes frías de 9kg. Perú por otro lado con tan solo 30 millones tiene un consumo de 2 kg por persona. Más que un problema es una gran oportunidad de crecimiento la que se presenta en el país sudamericano.

En un continente en el que tradicionalmente se compran alimentos a granel, vemos un incremento en la compra de paquetería. Si bien no es la mayoría aún, es considerable el cambio: Un 24% de las carnes frías se compra por paquetes, lo que indica un incremento de 14% con el año pasado.

Perú es un país muy sano, que ha crecido constantemente y tiene una baja inflación, lo que nos indica que tiene un mercado sólido. Además hemos detectado a los hombres como un target secundario, pues el 50% del mercado es conformado por ellos. Tenemos también un enfoque a la gente joven pues el grupo más activo en el país son personas entre 25 y 44 años.

Hay mucha busca de ahorro y practicidad, el consumidor peruano es uno muy inteligente buscando descuentos.

Así encontramos mucha oportunidad de innovación en la tendencia de paquetería. En Perú hay 197 tiendas de autoservicio, de las cuales 150 son en Lima, la capital. Algo muy particular de éstas tiendas es que se vende mucha paquetería pero se hace en la tienda dicho paquete. Los platos son estilos desechable y las bolsas abre-fácil , de tal forma el comprador le da un reúso al empaque.

Actualmente no ofrecemos innovación en nuestros productos de paquetería, así que lanzamos una propuesta que incluya innovaciones como empaques semirrígidos, resellables, abre-fácil, paquetería estilo ziploc, y pequeñas porciones. La importancia de esto es que permita conservar el producto y su calidad, además de ofrecer un empaque reusable.

Al lanzar los prototipos tuvimos resultados favorables.

Con tan solo cambiar el empaque la gente mencionó que el producto era más rico, fresco, higiénico, que estaban dispuestos a cambiar de marca y pagar más por él. Agregado a esto queremos llegar a anaqueles mejor formados, más homogéneos, donde se pueda ver nuestra marca.

In a continent in which traditionally food was bought in bulk, we see a raise in packaged goods sales. Even if it is not everyone, there is a considerable change: 24% of cold meats are bought in packages, which shows a raise of 14% from last year.

Peru is a very healthy country, which has grown constantly and has a low inflation rate, which tells us there is a solid marketplace. We have also detected that 50% of the market is made up by men so we made them a secondary target. There is a great focus on youth as well, since the most active group in the country is people between 25 and 44 years.

There is a search for savings and practicality, the Peruvian consumer is a very smart one. We found a lot of opportunity to innovate when it comes to packaging. In Peru there are 197 self-service stores from which 150 are in Lima. Something particular in these stores is that a lot of packaging is sold but they are made in the store. Plates are disposable and bags are open easy, so the buyer can later reuse the package.

At the moment we do not offer any innovation in our packaged products, so we launched a proposal that includes semi rigid packages, resealable bags, open easy, and small portion packages. The importance of this is that it allows us to preserve the product and its quality, on top of this we can offer reusable packaging.

When we launched the prototypes we had favorable results. With just a change in packaging people mentioned the product was tastier, fresher, hygienic, and were willing to change brands and even pay more for it. We also want to get to stores in better shape, looking more homogeneous so people can recognize our brand.

ada día hay más de 600 mil accidentes, 400 mil personas enfermas, y 6 mil muertes debido a malas condiciones laborales. Las empresas normalmente contratan consultoría para evaluar riesgos, pero no es representativo ya que se hace una vez al año, no es individual por que no sabemos las condiciones de cada trabajador en tiempo real, y no es preventiva.

La solución que propone Prysmex es un casco industrial inteligente: manda la información a tiempo real a un software que crea alertas y almacena datos. Con él podemos medir el ruido, la iluminación, las cantidades de gases tóxicos y temperaturas extremas. Además previene al empleado y le avisa por medio de LEDs si hay riesgos de trabajo. Cuenta con tracking interior para detectar las áreas de mayor tránsito y crear cercas virtuales y rutas. Hay también detección de impacto para pedir ayuda, y un botón de emergencia. Así puedes ver a tus empleados, tus plantas, estén donde estén en el mundo, y destinar recursos en base a información actualizada.

Companies usually hire consultancy to evaluate risks, however it is never representative since it is only done once a year, it is not individual because we don’t know the conditions of each worker in real time, and it is not preventive.

The solution Prysmex proposes is a smart industrial helmet: it sends information in real time to a software that creates alerts and stores data. With it we can measure noise, lighting, toxic gas quantities, and extreme temperatures. It also warns the employee through LED lights and lets him know if there are any sudden risks. There is an interior tracking device to detect transit areas and creates virtual fences and routes.

It also has an impact detection system that sends immediate help in case of emergency, as well as a panic button. This way you could see your employees and factories wherever they are in the world and plan resources based on updated information.

uestro cerebro usa el 25% de nuestro consumo energético, y el 60% de nuestro alimento viene tan sólo del maíz, trigo, papa y arroz. Esta práctica, además de no ser deliciosa, no es nutritiva, ni accesible, ni sustentable.

En el mundo hay 3 mil millones de personas en pobreza, 2 mil millones con obesidad, y mil millones en desnutrición.

Si tan solo pudiéramos otorgarles acceso a una nutrición adecuada podríamos regresar a nuestras bases y alimentar nuestra genialidad, pero no hay empresas entrenadas en nutrición ni ciencia, ni que recuerden los orígenes del ser humano. Hay demasiados proveedores pero pocos aliados.

Así se creó Genius Foods, una empresa que crea texturizantes, conservadores y emulsificantes naturales con la misión de alimentar a aquellos en pobreza, desnutrición y obesidad. Han logrado sustituir el 50% de grasas y huevo en panes, quitar el huevo de la mayonesa, aumentar la proteína y fibra en embutidos, y aumentar su retención de agua.

Han redefinido productos y mejorado marcas. Han encontrado nuevos mercados, hecho relanzamientos y creado nuevas categorías. Lograron una cocina experimental, con gran capacidad de producción, y que genera alianzas con empresas líderes del sector de alimentos tanto en México como Estados Unidos.

ur brain uses 25% of our energetic consumption, and 60% of our food comes from corn, wheat, potatoes and rice. This practice is not delicious, nutritious, accessible, nor sustainable.

In the world there are 3 billion people in poverty, 2 billion with obesity, and one billion with malnutrition. If only we could grant them access to an ideal nutrition we could go back to our roots and feed our genius, but there are no companies trained in nutrition and science, or any that remember the origins on mankind. We have many providers but few allies.

This is how Genius Foods was created, a company that creates texturizers, emulsifiers, and food preservatives, with the mission to feed those in poverty, malnutrition and obesity. They have managed to substitute 50% of fats and eggs in bread, remove the egg altogether from mayonnaise, increase the amount of protein and fiber in processed foods and improve their water retention. They redefined products, built better brands, found new markets, done relaunches, and created new market categories. They managed an experimental kitchen with a great production capacity and that creates alliances with leading businesses in the food sector both in Mexico and the United States.

l aire que respiramos tiene micropartículas contaminantes que ponen en riesgo nuestra salud. La OMS define que debe haber un límite de 10 microgramos por metro cúbico para éstas partículas, sin embargo en Monterrey tenemos hasta 36, siendo la ciudad más contaminada del país.

IG Carbons cuantificó el problema y encontró que se registraron más de 15 mil muertes por emisiones de carbón en el 2012, y 3.7 millones en el resto del mundo. Lo alarmante fue que la mayoría de las muertes fueron en países con modelos de negocio similares al de México.

Encontraron que el carbón activado era ideal para limpiar el aire y agua, así que debían hallar una materia prima económica y en abundancia que contenga el químico: plumas de pollo. Con 160 toneladas diarias de desperdicio, y hechas principalmente de carbón, era el material ideal.

Por medio de un proceso de limpieza, precalentamiento, y pirolisis, fueron capaces de extraer el carbón activado, para comenzar a limpiar el medio ambiente con excelentes resultados.

he air we breathe has contaminated micro particles that put our health at risk. The World Health Organization set a healthy limit of 10 micrograms per cubic meter for these particles, however in Monterrey we have over 36, becoming the most polluted city in the country.

IG Carbons quantified the problem and found that there are more than 15 thousand deaths registered in 2012 due to carbon emission, and 3.7 million in the rest of the world. The alarming part is that most deaths were in countries whose economy resembles Mexico models.

They found that activated carbon was ideal to clean the air water, so they had to find a raw material that was both cheap and abundant and containing the chemical: chicken feathers. With 160 tons wasted every day, and mainly made from carbon, they were the ideal material.

Through a process that involves cleaning, preheating, and pyrolysis, they were able to extract the activated carbon to start cleaning the environment with excellent results.

a innovación exitosa es rara, es un juego de probabilidades que no está a nuestro favor. Hay diferentes eslabones en los procesos y hay que determinar cuáles son los más débiles, para así con nuestra experiencia, poder reforzarlos.

Nielsen, empresa mundialmente reconocida por sus métodos de medición, usa varios criterios para decretar qué productos son los más exitosos: por ejemplo, se busca que sea relevante. Esto lo definen como que genere al menos 50 millones de dólares el primer año. También se busca que dure, lo que es que facture en su segundo año el 90% de lo que vendió el primer año; y que sea una extensión, no un cambio de gramaje por ejemplo. Esto previene que el éxito del producto se deba a cuestiones de tamaño y no de innovación.

De 20,000 productos evaluados desde el 2008, solo 74 han cumplido con dichas características. El punto en común que tienen es que todos han sido acompañados de fuerte publicidad. Cabe mencionar que el 34% son de la categoría de alimentos.

Nielsen otorgó a McCormick la distinción de outstanding o excepcional, debido a que cumple con los requisitos mencionados. Además, enfatiza la empresa, que es una marca única, que atrae la atención del consumidor, genera una aparente necesidad o deseo, es creíble, y finalmente tiene un costo aceptable.

El caso de McCormick ha sido exitoso en los Estados Unidos y estamos en un proceso de replicar su triunfo en otras marcas. Comprobamos que tenemos la habilidad de resolver lo inesperado, sin embargo debe ser pronto pues sino no podremos ser exitosos. Solo así podremos crecer tanto en las marcas, como en lo corporativo.

uccessful innovation is hard to find, it’s a game of probabilities that is never in our favor. There are different chain links in the process and we must determine which are the weaker ones, so that with our experience, we can strengthen them.

Nielsen, a company that is globally known for their measurement methods, uses several criteria to define which products are the most successful: for example, they need to be relevant. This is defined as it making at least 50 million dollars in the first year. It must also endure, meaning in its second year it must make at least 90% of what it made during its first year. And it also needs to be an extension, not a change in weight for example. This allows the success to be owed to innovation instead of matters of size.

Out of 20,000 products that were evaluated since 2008, only 74 have met said characteristics. The one point in common is that they all were followed by strong publicity. It must be noted that 34% of them are within the food category.

Nielsen gave McCormick the outstanding distinction, since it meets the required criteria. The company also emphasizes that it is a unique brand which attracts the consumer’s attention, it creates an apparent need or desire, and finally, it has an acceptable cost.

The McCormick case has been successful in the United States and we are in a process on replicating its triumph in other brands. We proved that we have the ability to solve the unexpected, however we need to be fast otherwise it is not successful. Only this way can we grow both in branding as in corporate.

os dispositivos electrónicos con fotografía y video en 360 grados, realidad virtual e inteligencia artificial están ya al alcance de nuestras manos.

Con Live, la transmisión en vivo en Facebook ya puede hacerse desde cualquier perfil y lugar, Mark Zuckerberg incluso realizó una entrevista a los astronautas en la Estación Espacial Internacional. Por otro lado, la plataforma Messenger permite a los negocios permanecer en contacto con sus clientes de forma instantánea, expresiva y convergente.

La gran ventaja es que puedes ingresar a tu usuario desde cualquier dispositivo y tener acceso a toda la información.

El futuro de la economía es la del conocimiento: el que yo sepa algo no significa que tú no puedas saber algo, y podemos intercambiar conocimiento. El internet es la columna vertebral de la economía. Para promover éste crecimiento económico debemos dar acceso a internet para todos, reduciendo los costos de datos y mejorando la infraestructura. De ahí el nacimiento de Freebasics: una aplicación que permite ingresar sin cargos de datos para tener acceso a información y servicios básicos en temas de trabajo, gobierno, economía y educación. El programa ha sido lanzado en 42 países y ya conectó a más de 25 millones de personas.

Facebook Aeronautics por otro lado, ha creado naves aéreas que reciben una señal enviada desde una estación, que a su vez la envía a otra nave y así sucesivamente. De tal forma podemos replicar la señal de internet hasta en las zonas más remotas.

La siguiente frontera permite a una máquina hacer cosas que normalmente haría un humano, por medio de la Inteligencia Artificial. La I.A. será una extensión de nuestro cerebro, de la misma manera que nuestros carros son una extensión de nuestras piernas. De tal forma, una persona sin vista puede obtener una descripción de lo que está frente a él o ella.

Finalmente, Oculus se dedica a desarrollar software para realidad virtual: el gaming es donde más se usa, pero también tiene usos en la salud y en la educación. Una persona que no puede caminar, estimula el cerebro para simular que corre, ahora puede hacer conexiones interneurales que anteriormente no, ya que el cerebro no puede distinguir lo que es real.

The future of economy is knowledge: me knowing something does not mean you cannot know something, and we can exchange that knowledge. The internet is the backbone of the economy. To promote this economic growth, we must allow access to internet for everyone, reducing costs and bettering infrastructure. That is how Freebasics was born: a platform with no data charge so you can have access to basic services and information concerning jobs, education, government and economy. This program has already been launched in 42 countries and has connected 25 million people.

Facebook Aeronautics on the other hand has created air drones that receive signals from a land station, and then send them to another drone and so on. This way we can replicate the internet signal even to the most remote areas.

The next frontier is a machine that does what a human would normally do through Artificial Intelligence.

A.I. will be an extension of our brains in the same way cars are an extension of our legs. This is how a person with no sight can get a description of what is straight in front of them.

Finally, Oculus is dedicated to developing virtual reality software: gaming is where it is used the most but we can also find it in health and education. A person that can’t walk stimulates the brain into thinking it is running, and can now create interneural connections that couldn’t be made before, since the brain can’t distinguish what is real and what is not.

a experiencia de ir de compras a un supermercado es diferente para cada persona; si bien para muchas personas es una parte más de su semana para muchas otras es un momento de estrés o incluso una complejidad con sus horarios de trabajo. Para dar solución a ésta problemática nació el e-commerce o comercio en línea.

Por años se consideró que esto resolvería los problemas que tenía el cliente pero ahora nos encontramos con un mayor obstáculo que es la desconfianza prevalente a las compras en línea. ¿Cómo puede asegurarse el comprador de que el producto que le será entregado tiene las características particulares que desea?

Cecilia Martínez nos presenta la solución por medio de Oculus, la tecnología de Realidad Virtual en forma de lentes que recientemente fue adquirido por Facebook. Frente a todos los asistentes y con ayuda de un voluntario fuimos testigos de cómo una persona puede caminar los pasillos de una tienda sin dejar nunca su hogar, y así hacer sus compras de acuerdo a sus gustos personales.

he experience of going shopping to a supermarket is different for each person; while for many people it just one more part of their week for many others it’s a moment of stress or even a complexity with their work schedules. To give a solution to this problem, e-commerce or online shopping was born.

For years it was considered that this would solve the problems the client had, but now we find a bigger obstacle, which is that there is a growing distrust of online shopping. How can the shopper make sure that the product delivered has the particular characteristics he wishes for?

Cecilia Martínez presents a solution through Oculus, the Virtual Reality technology in the shape of glasses that was recently acquired by Facebook. In front of all assistants and with the help of a volunteer we witnessed how a person can walk the aisles of a store without ever leaving their home, and in doing so they can do their purchases according to their personal tastes.

urante el siglo pasado, el método de trabajo era uno racional en el que el mejor producto ganaba la batalla. El cliente conocía las opciones y se llevaba la que de forma inteligente le parecía la mejor; las emociones eran una distracción. Hoy sabemos que las emociones son una herramienta que apoyan la toma de decisiones.

El acelerado ritmo de cambios tecnológicos está afectando cómo pensamos, creando nuevas necesidades emocionales aún más grandes de las que ya existían. Nos hemos vuelto una sociedad más desconfiada, y al mismo tiempo estamos superficialmente más conectados, pero profundamente más individualistas.

El sistema afectivo y emocional se usa indiscutiblemente para la toma de decisiones, lo cognitivo y racional viene después; sin embargo las compañías siempre parten de la premisa de que los consumidores son 100% racionales, y olvidan la experiencia de compra del cliente.

Las decisiones son en un 90% inmediatas. Una toma de decisiones pensada y con un tiempo determinado para evaluar opciones, es cansada. Las decisiones deben ser emocionales, de acuerdo a nuestra experiencia personal, sin embargo insistimos en preguntar al cliente qué piensan, y qué quieren. El tema es que los humanos somos adaptables y nos acondicionamos; los problemas que tenemos los notamos la primera vez, quizás la segunda, pero eventualmente nos acostumbramos y dejamos de verlos, por lo que nuestra retroalimentación es incompleta.

Los consumidores del nuevo siglo buscan marcas más humanas, auténticas, y que cumplan su promesa de valor.

Es ahora más importante ser auténtico que bueno. Necesitamos estímulos de intensidad emocional para tomar decisiones; los productos y servicios necesitan ser menos complejos y más enfocados en las necesidades emocionales.

La experiencia de compra se vuelve importante porque a final de cuentas no podemos agregar un valor sin que pueda hacerlo también la competencia. El status quo merece ser retado, conectando múltiples personas con las diferentes etapas del proceso, a esto le llamamos Design Thinking. Debemos encontrar el balance entre qué tanto lo protegemos y que tanto lo retamos, pues no hay una proporción adecuada para cada empresa.

Es importante comprender que la innovación no es una receta. Cada empresa tiene sus necesidades y de eso dependerá el plan de acción, no hay uno único. No es tampoco una bala de plata. Creer que resuelve los problemas de forma inmediata es ingenuo, pues siempre existirá la competencia, la mala administración, e infinidad de factores que afectan a tu empresa. Finalmente, debemos comprender que no sucede de la noche a la mañana. La innovación es un camino, no un destino.

Las nuevas formas de pensamiento normalmente quieren acabar con lo viejo, pero el Design Thinking viene a complementar los métodos antiguos; aun así podemos seguir sobreprotegiendo el status quo. Éste debe seguirse protegiendo con cautela de dejar espacio para retarlo.

Las empresas dependen mucho de los datos, pero éstos solo muestran el pasado, y todo el mundo tiene acceso a ellos. Quieren mejorar lo que ya se tiene, pero hemos llegado al punto en que la supervivencia del negocio depende de la eficiencia, y recordemos que la eficiencia es un esfuerzo reduccionista: no consume y no genera. Además quieren cometer la menor cantidad de errores posibles.

Se necesita un nuevo modelo, que motive a explorar, conocer a las personas y entender los números en los datos.

En el que se observe a otras industrias encontrando oportunidades. Y después, explorar esas nuevas ideas, para finalmente repetir el proceso.

uring the last century, the work method was a rational one in which the best product won the battle. The client knew the options and took home the one he assessed as the best; emotions were a distraction. Today we know emotions are a tool that support the decision-making process.

The accelerated rhy thm in technological changes is af fecting how we think, creating new emotional necessities even bigger than the ones that existed already.

We became a less trusting societ y and at the same time we are shallowly more connected but profoundly more individualistic.

The affectionate and emotional thought process is undoubtedly used in decision-making, the cognitive and rational one comes after, however companies use the premise that consumers are 100% rational and forget to assess their buying experience.

Decisions are 90% immediate. A well thought decision, in a determinate time to evaluate options, is tiring.

They should be emotional, according to our personal experience, however we insist in asking the client what they think and what they want. The thing is we as humans are adaptable, and we get used to the problems we have. We might have seen them the first time, maybe the second, but eventually we get used to them and stop noticing them, so our feedback is incomplete.

New century consumers seek brands that are more humane, authentic, and that keep their promise of value.

It is now more important to be authentic than good. We need more emotional intensity stimulus in order to make decisions; products and services need to be less complex and more focused to their emotional necessities.

The experience of buying becomes important because at the end of the day we can’t add a level of value that the competition can’t do as well. The Status Quo deserves to be challenged, connecting multiple people to different stages of the process. We call this Design Thinking.

We must find the balance between how much we protect and how much we challenge since there is no ideal proportion for each business.

It is important to understand that there is no recipe for innovation. Each company has its needs and from that we can make a plan of action, there is no single one.

It also isn’t a silver bullet. Believing it will solve all problems immediately is naïve, because there will always be competition, bad administration, and an inifiity of factors that have an effect on the company. Finally, we need to understand that it will not be an overnight success. Innovation is a road, not a destiny.

The new waves of thought normally want to end with the old, but Design Thinking wants to complement the

old ways; we can still overprotect the status quo. We actually must protect it, but leave enough room for change.

Businesses depend a lot on data, but they only show the past, and everyone has access to the same ones. People want to improve what we already have but it’s come to a point where the company depends on efficiency, but let’s not forget that efficiency is a reductionist effort: it does not consume and does not generate. We also want to make less mistakes.

We need a new model, that motivates us to explore, and to meet the people and understand the numbers behind the data. One in which we observe other industries and find opportunity. After that, we can explore these new ideas to finally repeat the process.

uchas veces no queremos ver las respuestas a los problemas que enfrentamos. Por no querer innovar y hacer una ruptura en nuestro modelo de negocio terminamos perdiendo oportunidades millonarias. Hoy en día, ya es posible comenzar una empresa desde la cochera de casa y en tan solo un año tener un valor de mil millones de dólares. Estamos en un punto culminante en la carrera de negocios.

Hay gente que ya documentó de manera académica y científica lo que hacen estas micro empresas que causan la quiebra de los más grandes :crecen de manera exponencial, usan nuevas técnicas organizacionales, tecnologías aceleradas, antes de contratar ejércitos de empleados se apoyan con tecnologías de información y su oferta inicialmente solo se basa en una demanda.

La competencia tradicionalmente era conocida e identificada, pero ahora los proveedores migran a ser competidores, los clientes crecen y hacen rivalidad, otras industrias comienzan a ser distribuidores y otros competidores amplían sus categorías. Ya es más rápida la creación de empresas y servicios similares, así que hay que encontrar forma de defendernos. Tenemos que decir nosotros: ¿Cómo vamos a matar a Sigma?

De las 50 empresas más innovadoras, 32 no son de tecnología y del top diez, cinco son tradicionales.

La innovación puede estar fundamentada en ciencia y tecnología pero puede implementarse en cualquier industria con 4 facilitadores: velocidad, procesos de investigación y desarrollo, plataformas de tecnología, y exploración continua de crecimiento de mercados.

Por otro lado, la innovación va subiendo en prioridad

ften we don’t want to see the answers to the problems we face. Because we refuse to innovate and rupture our model, we end up losing millionaire opportunities. Today it is possible to start a company from our garage and in just a year be worth billions of dollars. We are at a peaking point in the business race.

People have documented both academically and scientifically what these micro businesses have been doing to break the bigger competition: they grow exponentially, use new organizational techniques, accelerated technologies, before hiring an army of employees they support themselves with I.T. and their initial offer is solely based on demand.

Traditional competition was known and identified, but now providers migrate to competitors, clients grow and create rivalries, other industries sudden start being distributors, and other non-competitors amplify their categories of offer. The creation of companies is now faster, so we must find a way to defend ourselves. We need to ask ourselves: How do we kill Sigma? Before others do.

Of the 50 most innovative businesses, 32 are not in technology, and of the top ten, five are traditional companies. Innovation can be founded on science and technology but it can be implemented in any industry by using these 4 facilitators: speed research and development, technology practices, and market research. On the other hand, innovation is on the rise in companies. The speed in which we adopt new technologies grows 20% year after year.

Ya estamos innovando en productos, pero debemos definir en dónde más puede haber innovación: plataformas tecnológicas, procesos operativos, canales comerciales. El punto es ser sociales, trabajar en equipo, y así disminuir los tiempos de cada proceso.

n el segundo día del foro UIN, que estuvo lleno de talleres interesantes y de mucha participación, los invitados se dieron cita a la terraza de la Torre Helicon para deleitarse de una excelente velada acompañada de una hermosa vista de Monterrey. El ambiente estuvo lleno de buena música, un clima fresco y los asistentes degustaron distintos canapés y cerveza artesanal Rrêy, hecha en Monterrey.

uring the second day at the UIN Forum, which was full of interesting workshops and a lot of participation, guests were invited to the terrace at Torre Helicón to enjoy an excellent evening with a beautiful view of Monterrey. The atmosphere was full of good music, a fresh weather, and guests tried different types of canapés and craft beer Rrêy, made in Monterrey.

ulminando con éxito el foro UIN, que estuvo lleno de actividades tales como conferencias de futuristas, talleres, panel de emprendedores, actividad de Oculus, conferencias por parte de Sigma México, LATAM, Europa y USA, los asistentes se llevaron consigo un invaluable aprendizaje, la experiencia de trabajar en las diferentes actividades que con ayuda de futuristas expertos en el tema trabajaron en equipo y dieron alternativas sobre líneas de acción en las que Sigma Alimentos trabajará en los próximos años.
