Editorial Wir wachsen weiter!

In den letzten Jahren haben uns viele Freunde und Partner dazu geraten, unsere Produktion in Billigländern auszulagern. Trotzdem haben wir weiter an unserem Produktionsstandort in den Bergen von Tirol investiert – in das Know-how unserer Mitarbeiter sowohl der Entwickler, Planer und Projektleiter aber auch in unserm Team in der Fertigung an den Maschinen und in der Montage. Wir arbeiten an unseren Prozessen, bei Schnelligkeit und Zuverlässigkeit und Flexibilität. Wir produzieren jedes Stück vom Rohmaterial bis zur fertigen Leuchte im Haus in genau 5 Tagen. Wir bauen jedes Stück genau für so viele Kunden, wie er es sich wünscht und geben ihn genau die Möglichkeit aus 25 verschiedenen Farben zu wählen.

Letztes Jahr haben wir über 600 Sonderanfertigungen bzw. Varianten unserer Produkte gebaut und bleiben dabei immer unserer Vision treu nur minimalistische und ästhetische Leuchten mit hohem, technischem Anspruch in Lichttechnik und Montagefreundlichkeit zu bauen.

Auf der Light & Building in Frankfurt 2012 präsentieren wir die größte Anzahl an Neuheiten und Innovationen in der Firmengeschichte. Mit unseren Innovationen im Bereich der Lichteffizienz und der LED-Technik setzen wir den nächsten Schritt.

Over the last few years, friends and partners have advised us to move our production to “low-cost” countries. Nevertheless, we have stayed true to our commitment to our production location in the mountains of Tirol. We invest not only in the knowhow of our employees, developers, planners and project managers, but also that of our production team and in our machines and assembly processes.

We are constantly optimising our processes – efficiency, reliability and flexibility being the keywords. We produce each piece in-house – from raw materials right through to the finished lights – and all of that in only five days! We create the precise number of each piece required by our customers and give them a choice of 25 different colours.

Last year saw us create 600 customised pieces or variations on our standard products. In so doing, we always stayed true to our vision of creating minimalistic, aesthetically-pleasing and high-tech lights. Throughout the design and production project, simplicity of assembly and installation are always in the back of our minds.

Our 43% growth figure for the last year shows that we are on the right track – a track that we intend on continuing on. 2012 will see us return to Frankfurt: we will once again be present at the Light & Building trade fair in Frankfurt, presenting the largest range of innovations in our company’s history. Our initiative in the area of lighting efficiency using LED technology is our next important step along the path to our company’s future success.

Die parkett-AGENTUR mit Firmensitz in Scharnitz hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt mit ihrem Online-Shop für Parkett, Landhausdielen und Massivholzdiele eine spannende Nische im Bodengeschäft für den deutschsprachigen Raum zu schließen. Neben einer kompetenten Beratung per Telefon oder E-Mail sowie anschließender Bestellmöglichkeit und Lieferservice gibt es für Kunden auch die Möglichkeit, individuelle Verkaufsgespräche im modern gestalteten Tiroler Schauraum zu vereinbaren. Der lichterfüllte Raum bringt die ausgestellten Landhaus-, Massivholz-, Wildbrettdielen in voller Wirkung zu Geltung und erlaubt dem Besucher sich eingehend mit den Feinheiten eines 3-Stab-Schiffsboden oder verschiedenen Parkettböden auseinanderzusetzen. Der Schauraum wurde in frischen Farben als eine Mischung aus Wohnung und Verkaufsfläche inszeniert und so wechselt die Lichtgestaltung von Prolicht ganz nach Anforderung von indirekter Beleuchtung durch Maxline Leuchten zu ibox-Spots im Showroom hinzu großflächigen Leuchtsonnen der Klasse Supersign in den weitläufigeren Teilen der Geschäftsfläche. Care For a Dance?

The Scharnitz (Austria) based parquet flooring company parkett-AGENTUR’s new online shop is part of its effort to close a gap in the German-speaking countries’ parquet flooring, wide-plank flooring and solid wood flooring market. In addition to delivery service and competent telephone or email customer services, the company offers customers the opportunity to make appointments to come into to its modern Tirol showroom for individual sales meetings. The light-filled room does justice to the wide-plank, solid wood and wild timber flooring, giving visitors a chance to admire the details of the timber planks and parquet flooring close up. The showroom has been designed in fresh colours and is half apartment and half sales area. Prolicht provided a lighting scheme which transitions from indirect lighting with Maxline to ibox spots in the showroom and large-format Supersign light panels in the larger parts of the sales area. To further support the visual concept, utah einbau, idaho darklight, csi and i2wall lights were all integrated into the lighting scheme.

In Dienten am Hochkönig strahlt der Wintersportshop und -verleih „Porti Sport“ im neuen Lichte: Die zwei Stockwerke mit ihren 1.200 m² leben vom zeitlosen Design mit Holz-Cubes und von den gut kombinierten Naturmaterialien, die mit ihrem Hell-Dunkel-Spiel verschiedene Atmosphären bieten. Vor allem im unteren Stockwerk, das in den Hang hineinragt, wird das Tageslicht miteinbezogen – ähnlich dem gleichmäßigen Licht einer Schneelandschaft.

Zentrale Anlaufstellen wie der Verleih und die Kasse erkennt man am prägnanten „Bunga System“. Dieses Profilleuchten-System hier als Hängeleuchte eingesetzt - ist bis ins Unendliche verlänger- und kombinierbar und mit Beschriftung und Farben zur Signalwirkung ausstattbar. Die 360°-Ausleuchtung mit einer hellen Lichtlinie im Zentrum unterstreicht den Ort und vermittelt ein einladendes Ambiente.

Die Haupterschließungsbereiche erstrahlen dank der flachen „Sign Round“ im diff usen Licht und sind daher sehr gleichmäßig ausgeleuchtet. So ist das Hindurchgehen ähnlich einem alltäglichen Spaziergang. Doch um die Aufmerksamkeit zu binden, sind die Produkte mit dem engen Kegel der „Sidestep“ fokussiert. Highlights werden auf diese Weise prägnant eingefangen und klar akzentuiert.

Highlights The winter sports equipment shop and hire service “Porti Sport” in Dienten am Hochkönig, Austria can now be seen in a dazzling new light: the 1,200 m² premises split across two storeys are based on a timeless wooden-cube design with natural materials that combine light and dark colours to create a range of different atmospheres.

Daylight plays a big role too - especially on the bottom floor which is cut into the mountain face, providing a simulation of the even light distribution that we all know from snow-swept winter landscapes.

The discreet “Bunga System” makes key service points such as the hire counter and the cashier easily recognisable. These profile lighting systems - in a hanging application here - can be used in a range of different lengths and combinations, with optional text and colours allowing them to be used as signs. The 360° lighting with a light-coloured line in the centre highlights the area and provides an inviting atmosphere.

The main access area is lit up in even, diffuse light by a flat “Sign Round” unit, making a walk through the shop seem more like a stroll in a park. To ensure that the products continue to grab customers’ attention, a special focus is placed on them using a tight “Side Step” beam. This allows special products to be highlighted subtly yet clearly. In fact, the lighting concept is not really about providing general, even light, but rather creating a sophisticated miseen-scène.

MEDIALES SPEKTAKEL ZUM ANGREIFEN

„Klotzen statt Kleckern“ muss die Vorgabe für den neu eröffneten „eybl WORLD STORE“ gelautet haben, der seit seiner Fertigstellung das schöne Vösendorf bei Tag und bei Nacht um eine Attraktion reicher macht. Die stadionähnliche Fassade des Flagshipstore wird von großflächigen Projektionen und LED-Effekten in 116.000 Farben in Szene gesetzt und sorgt für eine einzigartige architektonische Landmark. Architekt Jo Güth ließ sich nach eigenen Angaben von der Bauweise internationaler Sportarenen inspirieren, besonders das legendäre Olympiastadion von Peking diente als Vorbild für den weltweit einzigartigen Auftritt.

Das Projekt gewinnt zusätzlich an Spannung, als dass das imposante Stahlnest, das die Gesamtfläche auf 14.000 Quadratmeter erweitert hat, auf das bereits vorhandene Eybl-Haus aufgesetzt worden ist, dass als zusätzliche Herausforderung während des gesamten Umbaus geöffnet blieb.

Doch nicht das äußere Erscheinungsbild hat sich einer beeindruckenden Verjüngungskur unterzogen, auch die Geschäftsräumlichkeiten strahlen nach getaner Frischzellenkur wie neu. Prolicht steuert zur emotionalisierenden Shopinszenierung, die mit mulitmedialem Einsatz aktiv Sporterlebnisse suggerieren will, 1250 engstrahlige Sidestep-Spots bei. Der Wirkungsgrad von mehr als 83 % macht die Spots besonders effizient.

The new “eybl WORLD STORE” has been built on the ideal of not doing things by halves. Since its completion, by day and night, it has been a new attraction for the town of Vösendorf, Austria.

The stadium-like facade of the flagship store sports a large-format projection and LED effects in 116,000 colours, giving the town a unique architectonic landmark. According to architect Jo Güth, in creating this unique concept, he was inspired by the design of international sport arenas, especially the legendary Olympic stadium in Beijing.

The project was made even more exciting with the challenge of how to execute the impressive steel nest on the existing Eybl building that extends the total surface to 14,000 m².

It was not only the outside appearance that underwent a comprehensive facelift – the sales areas, too, are shining in a new light. Prolicht made its contribution with a multimedia-based emotional shop ambience solution featuring 1250 narrow beam Sidestep-Spot spotlights. The beam angle of over 83% makes these spotlights particularly effective.

Viele Analysten gehen davon aus, dass der Gipfel der weltweiten Erdölförderung schon in relativ naher Zukunft – möglicherweise schon in diesem Jahrzehnt - erreicht wird. Dadurch wird sich eine sinkende Verfügbarkeit fossiler Brennstoffe ergeben, was wiederum zu einer Inflation und zündenden globalen Konflikten führen wird.

Solche Behauptungen werden normalerweise durch Zusicherungen abgetan, dass noch immer genügend Öl zur Verfügung stünde und viele Quellen erst noch entdeckt werden müssten. Jedoch führt die Erschließung weiterer Öl- bzw. Gasfelder nur zu einer Verzögerung des Unvermeidlichen. Abgesehen davon kann die Entwicklung neuer Technologien Jahre in Anspruch nehmen und es wäre sehr sinnvoll jetzt zu beginnen, während die Welt noch über die nötigen Ressourcen verfügt und nicht so lange zu warten, bis der letzte Tropfen Öl aus der Erde befördert wurde. In der Tat sind es die ölreichen Nationen, die ihren derzeitigen Reichtum am besten dazu nutzen könnten, um die Zukunft auf schwindende fossile Brennstoffe vorzubereiten.

Saudi Arabien hat im April 2010 Pläne für den Bau der „King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy“ (K. A. CARE ) enthüllt. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Einrichtung, die dem wachsenden Energiebedarf des Landes gerecht werden soll, der sich laut Prognosen in den nächsten 20 Jahren verdreifachen soll. Außerdem soll die Einrichtung die Fähigkeit des Landes stärken, den zukünftigen internationalen Bedarf an Öl- und Gasreserven zu befriedigen.

Die Ankündigung erfolgte genau sechs Monate nach der offiziellen Eröffnung der King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, einer Multimilliarden-Einrichtung, deren Forschungsschwerpunkte u. a. Energie und Umwelt umfassen. Sie ist als repräsentative Einrichtung gedacht, die eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Entwicklung Saudi Arabiens und der Welt spielen wird.

K.A. CARE ist speziell darauf ausgerichtet, erneuerbare Energien und Atomenergie zu nutzen, um eine zuverlässige, langfristige Energieversorgung und eine nachhaltige Zukunft für Saudi Arabien zu schaffen, wobei man sich die reichlich vorhandenen natürlichen Ressourcen – wie z. B. die hohe Sonnenintensität – zu Nutze macht. Der erste Schritt zur Abwendung einer Energiekrise ist die Verbesserung der Energieeinsparung, die weitere, zur Entwicklung einer neuen Infrastruktur nutzbare Ressourcen freigeben wird. DHA Design - im Vereinigten Königreich ansässige Fachberater – erhielten den Auftrag, ein Beleuchtungskonzept für K.A. CARE zu entwickeln und erwarben dazu energieeffiziente Beleuchtungslösungen von LIGHTWORKS, dem für das Vereinigte Königreich zuständigen Partner von PROLICHT. Darunter fielen auch Idaho Darklight und Supersign. PROLICHT ist sich der Bedeutung der Energieeffizienz bewusst und strebt nach der Erfüllung dieser Anforderung, ohne dabei Qualität und Funktionalität zu opfern.

Eine Krise kann abgewendet werden, jedoch rennt die Zeit davon. Dazu ist außerdem ein weltweites Engagement notwendig, das das Manhattan-Projekt wie ein Kinderspiel aussehen lassen könnte. Der Schlüssel zum Überleben lag schon immer in der Fähigkeit, sich an seine Umwelt anzupassen. Und die Geschichte hat unter Beweis gestellt, dass jene die scheitern vom Aussterben bedroht sind.

Many analysts believe that the peak of worldwide oil production will occur in the relatively near future - possibly within this decade. This will be followed by declining availability of fossil fuels that will cause inflation and spark global conflicts.

Such suggestions are usually dismissed by assertions that there is still plenty of oil available, and much of it has yet to be discovered - but locating more oil fields and gas reserves will only delay the inevitable. Besides, new technologies can take years to develop and it would be wise to begin while the world has the resources to succeed, rather than wait until the last drop of oil is pumped from the ground. In fact, it is the oil-rich nations that are best placed to use their current wealth to prepare for a future with dwindling fossil fuels.

In April 2010, Saudi Arabia unveiled plans to create the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A.CARE), a facility intended to meet the country’s growing demand for electricity, which is projected to nearly triple in the next 20 years, and strengthen its ability to meet future international demand for oil and gas reserves.

The announcement came just six months after the official opening of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, a multi-billion dollar facility with energy and environment amongst its core research activities. It is envisioned to become a prestigious institution that will play a crucial role in the development of Saudi Arabia and the world.

K.A.CARE will specifically aim to harness renewable and atomic energy to create a reliable, long-term supply of electricity and a sustainable future for Saudi Arabia, taking advantage of the country’s abundant natural resources, such as high solar intensity.

The first step to avoiding an energy crisis is to improve energy conservation, which will free up more resources that can be used to develop new infrastructure. UK-based consultants DHA Design received an order to create a lighting scheme for the K.A.CARE facility, and bought energy-efficient lighting solutions from PROLICHT’s UK partner LIGHT WORKS, including the Idaho Darklight and Supersign. PROLICHT recognises the importance of energy efficiency and strives to meet this requirement without sacrificing quality and functionality.

A crisis can be averted, but time is running out and it will take a commitment on a global scale that would make the Manhattan Project seem like child’s play. The key to survival has always depended on the ability to adapt to one’s environment.

As history has proven, those that fail to adapt face extinction.

Die Landesgeschäftsstelle des Arbeitsmarkservice hat im November 2011 ihren neuen Standort in der Amraserstraße in Innsbruck bezogen. Die ständige Erweiterung der Serviceleistungen erforderte die unbedingte Erweiterung der Büroräumlichkeiten. Durch diese Expansion können noch mehr Menschen in der schwierigen Zeit der Arbeitssuche unterstützt werden.

ATMOSPHERE IN DIFFICULT TIME After a relocation in November 2011, the state headquarters of the AMS Arbeitsmarktservice (Job Centre) opened the doors of its new location in AmraserstraĂ&#x;e in Innsbruck. The constant growth of their range of services has made the expansion of their offices an absolute necessity. This expansion will enable them to support even more job searchers in these difficult times.

The head of the branch, Anton Kern, has made it his goal to provide this support to the absolute best of his and his teamâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s ability. And this support starts right from the moment that one sets foot in the building. With a little help from PROLICHT, the right lighting units - SIGN ROUND and SUPERSIGN TRIMLESS fittings were selected and installed in the hallways and in a modern seminar room. A tearoom which can be opened up (or closed off) from the seminar room was fitted with SMOOTHLINE PENDEL and SMOOTHLINE TRIMLESS units to provide a pleasant working atmosphere which would encourage good communication. The SUPERSIGN ANBAU lights in the seminar room provide an atmosphere which makes job centre clients and employees alike feel right at home.

The clients who come to AMS for help are often going through a difficult, worrying time. For this reason, it is important to instil them with confidence and new hope. in light of light “Lateral Thinking” is the name of one of the pieces on display at the Taxispalais gallery in Innsbruck from 17 December to 26 February. According to the artist who created it, Brigitte Kowanz, the title refers to an unconventional, outside-the-box way of thinking – in other words, daring to change one’s perspective.

The Vienna-based artist who received the Austrian state prize der Große Österreichische Staatspreis in 2009 directs perspectives not only to objects, but also to the media that are used to make them seen, but which often go unrecognised, despite their essential nature: light and language stand in the focus of her work.

Not only does light make everything else visible, Kowanz also considers it to be what we see: an intangible phenomenon. It can only be verbalised and communicated in the form of letter numbers and terms. This is what inspired the artist to translate the appearance of light using different forms of speech, relying on language to give it voice. Kowanz used the Morse alphabet in her art, an original binary code which represents the foundation of language and communication of information in our new, digital world.

Based on complementary base units of dots and lines, in and out, short and long, the artist uses circles and rectangle to express this code which not only provides the title of her works, but is also displayed on the works themselves. The piece “in light of light” (2011) from the series “Discs” (which was also the name of the exhibition) is also true to this principle: two circular neon tubes fitted on a flat reflective stainless steel disc communicate the title using Morse code, providing a link between spoken signs and that which is being described.

Now laymen and Morse-code experts alike will be shown something that is not noticed at first glance: through irregular, rhythmic intervals of light and shadow, the steel plate is set into virtual motion, appearing to lose its flat shape and instead to become bent. In this way, Kowanz uses light to change space and create activity – imaginary space is projected into real space, showing the viewer the gaps in one’s perception.

In her 2011 project “Tiefenraum” (EN: “The Depth of Space”), the artist creates even larger, seemingly boundless illusions. Overlapping mirror walls transform the installation space into a house of mirrors. The real space is opened into a space of endless depth in which viewers see themselves reflected time and time again. Moments of observation and being observed blend into one and the viewer becomes part of the piece.

Der Titel erscheint programmatisch für die Arbeiten seiner Schöpferin Brigitte Kowanz, bedeutet „Laterales Denken“ doch soviel wie unkonventionell, quer, um die Ecke zu denken und sich von eingefahrenen Mustern zu lösen – mit anderen Worten einen Perspektivenwechsel zu wagen.

Die Wiener Künstlerin, der 2009 der Große Österreichische Staatspreis verliehen wurde, lenkt die Perspektive nicht auf ein Kunstobjekt, sondern auf die Mittel, die dieses sonst erst sichtbar machen, auf Erscheinungen, die sich allzu oft unserer Wahrnehmung entziehen, obwohl sie essentiell für diese sind: Im Zentrum ihrer Arbeiten stehen das Licht und in weiterer Folge die Sprache.

Licht, das nicht nur alles andere sichtbar macht, sondern, so Kowanz, das ist, was wir sehen, ist eigentlich ein ungreifbares Phänomen. Verbalisier- und kommunizierbar wird es erst in Gestalt von Zeichen, Zahlen und Begriffen, was die Künstlerin dazu inspiriert hat, in ihren neuesten Werken die Erscheinung des Lichts mit unterschiedlichen Sprachformen begrifflich zu übersetzen, es zu „besprechen“ und damit auf die Sprache zurückzufallen. Im konkreten Fall hat Kowanz das Morsealphabet in ihre Kunst eingeführt, einen originären binären Code, der die Grundlage der Sprache und Informationsvermittlung in unserer neuen digitalen Welt darstellt.

Bezogen auf die komplementären Grundeinheiten Punkt und Strich, ein und aus, kurz und lang beschreibt die Künstlerin mit Kreisen und Rechtecken diesen Code, der ihre Werke nicht nur betitelt, sondern auch in der Arbeit selbst dargestellt wird. Auch das Werk „in light of light“ (2011) aus der Serie „Discs“, das der Ausstellung ihren Titel gibt, folgt diesem Prinzip: Zwei kreisrunde Neonröhren, die auf einer flachen, spiegelnden Edelstahlscheibe angebracht sind, übermitteln in Morseschrift den Titel, was spielerisch eine sonst nur zufällige Beziehung zwischen sprachlichem Zeichen und Bezeichnetem herstellt.

Nun wird aber nicht nur dem Morseschrift-Kundigen mit diesem Werk vor Augen geführt, was sich seinem Blick entzieht: Durch unregelmäßig rhythmisierte Intervalle von Licht und Schatten wird die Stahlplatte in virtuelle Bewegung versetzt und erscheint durch die Lichtbrechung nicht mehr flach, sondern wie auf magische Weise gekrümmt. Licht wird so von Kowanz als raumverändernde und raumschaffende Aktivität eingesetzt – in reale Räume werden plötzlich imaginäre projiziert und der Betrachter muss sich den Tücken und blinden Flecken seiner Wahrnehmung stellen.

Noch größere Illusionen, die sich bis ins Unendliche ziehen, erzeugt die Künstlerin mit ihrem Projekt „Tiefenraum“ (2011). Einander gegenüberliegende Spiegelwände verwandeln den Ausstellungsraum in ein begehbares Spiegelkabinett. Der reale Raum öffnet sich zu einem endlosen Tiefenraum, in dem sich der Betrachter wiederholt begegnet und in dem so nicht nur Momente des Beobachtens und Beobachtetwerdens verschmelzen, sondern auch der Beobachter selbst Teil des Kunstwerks wird.

We have learned to tame light and to harness it for our needs. We turn night into day, we create light rooms and light worlds, where needed, use it to communicate our feelings, emotions and stories.

“Architecture creates rooms. Visions are realised through light.” Companies like SHOUP have recognised the “power” of light in architecture and take advantage of this knowledge in projects such as the “Penthouse Privat” in Graz, Austrian. Intelligent lighting concepts are used to redefine stylish living.

The clear architectonic lines interplay with PROLICHT’s borderless lighting fittings such as SUPER SIGN ROUND and UTAH. The simplicity and perfection of these objects is juxtaposed to an enterior design which is characterised by the use of natural colour tones and shapes.

The product of these two (supposed) opposites is an exciting dialogue which unfolds as the light surface of the SIGN QUADRAT fitting glow through the folds of the long wall hanging.

“BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER...”

It is always nice to see neighbours getting along. It is even nicer to see them agree to coordinate architecture to give their village a stylish note. The two Tirol residences have created a connection with their mountainous surroundings through stylish and subdued elegance, generous window facades and Eden-like gardens. Wood and stone are the dominant materials, even on the inside of these stately homes.

The intelligent use of glass elements and lights made by Prolicht lend the homes a luxurious and comfortable air. The light factor is also integrated into the overall concept throughout the entire house, taking advantage of a large range of shapes and possibilities.

The hallway on the upper level is lit by a “Cave randlos” borderless fitting, with rows of “Dice Wall” fixtures lighting the way across the stairs into the spacious ground floor, supported by “Matrix Randlos” and “Lollipop Square” fittings, seamlessly cut into the stone – all in a seductive “black velvet” tone. In addition to the public areas, such as the hallways, the kitchen is also a place that features a creative lighting scheme. Matching Dice and Dice Asymmetric 2 fixtures light up the secret centre of the house. The Utah Vision System is an eye-catcher in the living room; located above the glass facade, it subtly guides the viewer’s gaze to the breathtaking mountain landscape, without itself taking up any of the attention. Through their dedication to connection with nature, their careful selection of materials and innovative use of light, these two neighbours in Tirol have shown that with a bit of style, any house can be a manor.

>>dice wall<< by prolicht Schön anzusehen, wenn sich Nachbarn gut verstehen, noch schöner anzusehen, wenn sie sich entschließen mit zwei architektonischen Augenschmeichlern im Dorf ein stilistisches Zeichen zu setzen. Die beiden Tiroler Residenzen schaffen es durch Stilgefühl und zurückhaltende Eleganz eine Verbindung zur Bergwelt zu schaffen, die durch großzügig gestalte Fensterfronten wie ein von Gotteshand geschaffener Garten mit den Häusern korrespondiert. Die Materialien Holz und Stein dominieren auch die innere Struktur der imposanten Privathäuser. Durch den intelligenten Einsatz von Glaselementen und Leuchten aus dem Hause Prolicht wird so ein starkes Gefühl von Luxus und Lebensgefühl vermittelt. Der Faktor Licht wird unterdessen im ganzen Haus anhand von Formenvielfalt und Einsatzmöglichkeiten in das Gesamtkonzept mit einbezogen. So wird der Gang im Obergeschoss von der „Cave randlos“ in Szene gesetzt, in Folge weisen „Dice Wall“-Leuchten den Weg über die Treppe ins weitläufige Erdgeschoss, die nahtlos durch die in Stein eingearbeiteten „Matrix Randlos“ und „Lollipop Square“ Unterstützung finden – allesamt im verführerischen Farbton „black velvet“. Neben öffentlichen Orten wie den Gängen wird auch die Küche als Ort zur Lichtgestaltung wahrgenommen. In einheitlicher Machart erhellen der Dice und der Dice Asymmetric 2 den geheimen Mittelpunkt des Hauses. Im Wohnzimmer sticht bei genauem Hinsehen das Utah Vision System, platziert über der Glasfront, ins Auge, das subtil den Blick des Betrachters auf die atemberaubende Bergkulisse lenkt, ohne dabei um Aufmerksamkeit zu buhlen. Die beiden Tiroler Nachbarn haben mit ihrem Mut zu Naturverbundenheit, geerdeter Materialauswahl und experimentellem Licheinsatz bewiesen, dass mit der nötigen Portion Stil ein jedes Haus zur Residenz werden kann.

ARCHIGHLIGHTS

Wir wandern durch die Sillschlucht, nähern uns von Süden kommend der Tiroler Landeshauptstadt Innsbruck. Und obwohl wir ganz genau wissen, dass sich nur wenige Meter über uns die Brenner Autobahn befindet - immerhin eine der Hauptverkehrsrouten über die Alpen - sind wir in der Illusion völliger Abgeschiedenheit gefangen. Denn was wir sehen und was wir hören, ist nichts als Natur.

Unverbaut. Ungezähmt.

Die Biegung ist erreicht, der Blick freigegeben und doch wieder gefangen. Vor der gewaltigen Kulisse der Nordkette, einem mauergleichem Gebirgskamm im Süden Innsbrucks, ragt der Turm der Bergisel-Schanze in den Himmel. Die letzten Sonnenstrahlen des Tages spiegeln sich in dem rund 50 Meter über dem Boden schwebenden Stahl-Glashut der Skisprungschanze wider. „Ein kompaktes Stück Funktionalität, ein Gerät für den Hochleistungssport, geformt mit mathematischer Präzision“, begründet die Jury des Österreichischen Staatspreises für Architektur, als sie 2002 Zaha Hadid mit selbigem auszeichnete.

Der Weg schwenkt nach rechts, führt uns östlich der Schanze vorbei. Die Sonne ist untergegangen, in der Schlucht wird es schnell dunkel. Nicht aber die, am Silvestertag des Jahres 2002 eröffnete, 120-Meter Schanze (K-Punkt). Sie ist beleuchtet. Aber während ihr Licht in der nahen Stadt zur Dekoration, zum Aufputz wird, ist uns hier in der finsteren Schlucht das Licht Orientierung und Wegweiser. Denn wie ein Leuchtturm an der Grenze von Wasser und Land, signalisiert die BergiselSchanze die Grenze zwischen Natur und Kultur. Und auch nach ihrem zehnjährigen Dasein, weiß sie diese scheinbaren Gegensätze zu verbinden, zu einem harmonischen Ganzen zu überführen.

Rechts ragt eine steile Wand aus Steinen und Geröll in die Höhe. Der Weg ist kaum einen Meter breit.

Links fällt das Gelände beinahe senkrecht in die Tiefe. Unten brüllt das Wasser in seinem Flußbett.

Es ist Frühling. Schneeschmelze.

Nur noch wenige Schritte, ehe der schmale Pfad, dem Laufe der Schlucht folgend, seine Richtung verändert und den Blick freigibt.

Where Nature Meets Culture

To the right an endless wall of stone and boulders. The path is barely a metre wide. To the left, a vertical drop. A river runs along the bottom of the cliff face. It is spring and the winter’s snow is melting. Only a few more steps along this narrow path which follows the course of the ravine before it changes direction and suddenly the view is transformed.

We are hiking through Sillschlucht Canyon, approaching the capital of the Austrian state of Tirol, Innsbruck from the south. Even though we know that we are only a few metres below the Brenner highway – one of the main mountain passes through the Alps – we are caught in an illusion of being in total isolation. We see and hear nothing but our natural surroundings. Unspoilt and untamed.

We reach the curve and suddenly have a clear view, albeit short-lived. In front of the majestic backdrop of the Nordkette mountain range in the south of Innsbruck, we have a view of the tower of the Bergisel ski jump. The last rays of sunlight reflect off the 50 metre high steel-glass cabin of the ski jump. “A compact piece of functionality, a device for extreme sports created with mathematical precision” according to the jury of the Austrian State Prize for Architecture when the prize was awarded to Zaha Hadid in 2002. The path takes a turn to the right and leads us past the ski jump.

We are heading east and the sun has gone down. It fast becomes dark in the canyon. The same cannot be said for the 120 metre ski jump (K-point) which was opened on new year’s day 2002. From the city, the light is a mere decoration, for us, it is a point of orientation in the darkness of the canyon. Like a lighthouse marking the border between land and ocean, the Bergisel ski jump represents the border between nature and culture. And even after 10 years, it still has a way of connecting these two supposed opposites, providing a transition to a harmonious combination of the two.

Seit März gibt es in Innsbruck eine neue Buchhandlung. Nach mehreren Monaten des aufwendigen Umbaus eines ehemaligen Hotels, wurde die Buchhandlung liber wiederin am 10. März in der Erlerstraße 6 eröffnet. Für den Geschäftsführer und leidenschaftlichen Buchhändler Thomas Wiederin hat vor allem eines Priorität: seinen KundInnen das Spannende und Freudvolle der Literatur zu vermitteln. Dabei spielt nicht nur die Auswahl der Bücher eine große Rolle – Wiederins Sortiment enthält neben ausgewählter Belletristik auch hochwertige Kinder- und Jugendliteratur sowie Literatur aus dem Fachbereich der Geisteswissenschaften -, sondern auch besonders die richtige Raum- und Lichtplanung. Aus diesem Grund war es für die Architekten Werner Burtscher und Markus Ortner bei der Planung der Räumlichkeiten am wichtigsten, die Bücher wirklich in den Mittelpunkt zu rücken. Alle verwendeten Materialien und Farben unterstreichen diesen Gedanken und sind darauf ausgerichtet, den mannigfachen Geschichten der unterschiedlichen Texte gerecht zu werden. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit den Architekten konzipierte Prolicht die Lichtplanung ganz in diesem Sinne und setzte Wiederins neues Reich der Bücher ins richtige Licht. Dafür wurden speziell angefertigte LED-Leuchtbänder in die Holzkanäle der Regale eingearbeitet, welche die Bücher zusätzlich von oben beleuchten und somit als „Bühnenlicht“ fungieren. Die Deckenbeleuchtung hingegen wurde – um die einzigartige Regalbeleuchtung nicht zu untergraben – einfach gehalten. Verwendet wurden dort längliche, von der Decke hängende, Leuchten (hangover) und eigens entwickelte LED-Leuchten.

“THE WORLD IS A STAGE”

Since March, there has been a new addition to Innsbruck ’s book shop scene. After the extensive, several month-long remodelling of an old hotel, liber wiederin opened its doors at 6 Erlerstraße on 10 March. One thing was right at the top of managing director and passionate bookshop attendant Thomas Wiederin’s list of priorities: creating a link between his customers and the wonderful, exciting world of literature.

In creating this link, it was not only the choice of books that played a big role (Wiederin’s range covers everything from selected fiction, teenage and children’s books to humanities literature) - but also the careful interior space and light planning.

For this reason, when planning the interior design, architects Werner Burtscher and Markus Ortner made sure to place a special focus on the books, bringing them into the spotlight. All of the materials and colours used support these considerations and are aimed at doing the diverse range of stories and texts justice. In close cooperation with the architects, Prolicht designed the lighting scheme according to this general concept, showing Wiederin’s new world of books in a special light. To do this, custom LED strips were built into the wooden channels of the bookshelves, lighting up the books from above, as if they were on a stage. The ceiling lighting was kept simple so as to avoid interference with the shelf lighting. These comprised long hanging lights (hangovers) and specially-developed LED lights.

Realität und Fiktion: Nur dann, wenn sich diese beiden vermeintlichen Gegensätze in Vollendung treffen, entsteht Innovation.

Gemäß diesem Motto gilt es, kreative Ideen mit ihrer funktionellen Verwirklichung zusammenzuführen. Ebendieser Aufgabe widmet sich die Schweizer Firma Zühlke schon seit Jahrzehnten in Perfektion.

Bei der innenarchitektonischen Realisation des eigenen neuen Firmensitzes im „Sony-Tower“ in Schlieren blieb man dem Firmenleitsatz „Empowering Ideas“ treu: Im großen Besprechungsraum, sozusagen der „Geburtsstätte“ eines jeden Projekts, deutet alles auf Offenheit hin: Zwei Fensterfronten sorgen für Tageslicht von der Seite. Die verschiedengroßen ovalen Deckeninstallationen imitieren den Himmel und verleihen so dem Raum eine gewisse Offenheit auch nach oben hin. Sie sind aber gleichzeitig auch die aktive Beleuchtung: Manche der eiförmigen Flächen sind ein Sondermodell der „SUPER SIGN“-Reihe.

Auffallend sind die mit Beleuchtung akzentuierten Treff punkte, die an Synapsen in unserem Gehirn erinnern. An ihnen soll der erste Ideenaustausch in „Peergroups“ begünstigt werden. In den Korridoren wurden „IDAHO“-Profilsysteme installiert, welche für Zielstrebigkeit und eine klare Linie stehen. Durch diese Gänge, welche in der Tat als „Über-gänge“ zwischen verschiedenen Stationen im Entwicklungsprozess verstanden werden, gelangen die Mitarbeiter/innen in kleinere Räume, in welchen schließlich die konkrete Realisation des Projekts stattfindet.

Es lässt sich zusammenfassen: Wie können gute Ideen zu erfolgreichen Projekten gemacht werden?

Reality and fiction: the two indispensible, seemingly mutually exclusive ingredients, without which true innovation can never be reached.

We have made this our motto in our quest to unite creative ideas with a functional realisation. The Swiss company Z端hlke has been dedicated to this task for decades. The result: perfection.

When it comes to the realisation of the interior design concept for the company's own new headquarters in "Sony Tower" in Schlieren, Switzerland, the company stayed true to its company motto of "empowering ideas". The large conference room which is the "birthplace" of each individual project is all about openness: two window panels allow side-on daylight to flood in. The various oval-shaped ceiling installations provide an imitation of the sky, giving the room a certain upwards openness. At the same time, however, they also provide the active lighting: Some of these egg-shaped surfaces are special models from the "SUPER SIGN" range.

Certain areas with accentuated lighting points remind you of the synapses of the human brain. This is conceptualised as a way to encourage idea swapping in peer groups. The corridors are fitted with IDAHO profile systems which communicate ambition and a clear line.

These hallways, which are actually junctions between the various stations in the development process, allow employees to get to the smaller rooms where the actual realisation of the project occurs.

In summary: how do you make a good idea become a successful project? By thinking about the brainstorming!

QUALITY that Counts

This is a restaurant where huge value is placed on fresh, healthy and natural foods, where the staff always try to meet their customers’ most demanding needs and offer them the best meal possible. Mangolds has already got a reputation for having the Graz’s biggest lunch time salad bar, but it should also be a place where guests can sit down and have a coffee in a cosy atmosphere. This made it quite a challenge to provide the range of different ambiances necessary, but in the end, it was made possible by the use of an array of different lighting installations.

The successful realisation of this project is partly due to the efforts of the company PROLICHT. White IBOX HIT lights and a special fruit and vegetables filter were used to highlight the vegetables’ colours and freshness. A mere glance at the salad bar is enough to make you feel hungry. The same lights were used in combination with gold reflectors to light up the in-house bakery, highlighting the warmth of the fresh baked goods.

Subtle HxO and IDAHO systems were combined with SuperSign pendant luminaires in the restaurant, transporting the guests into a range of different themed worlds. Customers looking to eat a quick, healthy meal in their short lunch breaks should feel just as comfortable as those who are drinking a relaxing coffee in the afternoon, or couples sharing a romantic dinner in the evening. Mangolds restaurant offers something for everyone who values fresh and healthy food. Customers can enjoy fresh cuisine from all over the world, all prepared in-house and leave with that great feeling of having done something good for their bodies.

In diesem Restaurant wird vor allem auf Frische, Gesundheit und Natürlichkeit großen Wert gelegt. Hier geht man auf die immer anspruchsvolleren Bedürfnisse der Gesellschaft in dieser Hinsicht ein und versucht, den Gästen das Beste zu bieten. Einen Namen hat sich das Mangolds schon allein deshalb gemacht, weil man hier die größte Salatbar der Stadt Graz findet, die zur gesunden Mittagspause einlädt. Doch auch seinen Kaffee soll man hier in einem gemütlichen Ambiente genießen können. So war es natürlich eine besondere Herausforderung, mit verschiedenen Lichtinstallationen, auf unterschiedliche Stimmungen eingehen zu können.

Dass das in diesem Ausmaß gelungen ist, ist mitunter auch der Firma PROLICHT zu verdanken. Mit weißen IBOX Strahlern HIT und einem speziellen Gemüsefilterglas wird die Frische und die Farbenvielfalt der diversen Gemüsesorten betont. Allein bei deren Anblick läuft einem hier schon das Wasser im Munde zusammen. Dieselben Strahler wurden in Kombination mit Goldreflektoren in der hauseigenen Bäckerei eingesetzt. Hier wird die Wärme der frischen Backwaren hervorgehoben.

Dezente HxO und IDAHO Systeme wurden kombiniert mit SuperSign Pendelleuchten im Restaurant eingesetzt, um den Gast in verschieden Welten eintauchen zu lassen. Personen, die in ihrer kurzen Mittagspause schnell eine gesunde Mahlzeit essen möchten sollen sich dadurch genauso wohl fühlen, wie diejenigen, die am Nachmittag in aller Ruhe ihren Kaffee oder am Abend ein romantisches Dinner genießen möchten. Im Restaurant Mangolds ist für jeden etwas dabei, der Wert auf Frische legt und gesund genießen möchte. Speisen aus aller Welt werden hier frisch zubereitet und verleihen den Besuchern tagtäglich das gute Gefühl, sich und seinem Körper etwas Gutes zu tun.

Seit Januar 2012 darf Stefan Messely seiner Leidenschaft für Design und gute Partnerschaften für PROLICHT im Mittleren Osten, in Afrika und in Lateinamerika nachgehen und sein kulturelles Fingerspitzengefühl weiterentwickeln.

Carl Devolder ist nicht nur für seine internationalen Auszeichnungen im Lichtdesign bekannt, sondern vor allem für seine Vielseitigkeit. Neben Research & Developement lagen seine vorigen Verantwortungen im Marketing und Sales. Daher suchte Carl Devolder nach einer neuen Herausforderung, die ihm PROLICHT gerne bietet.

In addition to work in research & development, he has experience in marketing and sales. This is why Carl Devolder started to look for new challenges. Challenges which PROLICHT is only too pleased to offer him. To see more of the world, he is now packing his bags to become our new Asia-Pacific Export Manager.

Die Kunst des Fallens Schon der Gedanke, aus einem Flugzeug zu springen, das sich in einer Höhe von 12.000 Fuß befindet, lässt in den meisten Menschen Übelkeit aufsteigen. Nur jene, die mutig genug sind, diesen ersten bedeutenden Schritt zu wagen, sind sich darüber bewusst, wie sehr sich dieser Sprung lohnen kann.

In solch Schwindel erregenden Höhen ist der Boden so weit entfernt, dass es keinerlei Anhaltspunkte gibt, die auf einen Fallschirmspringer hinweisen. Eine solche Illusion entsteht auch, wenn man einen Wagen auf offener Straße fährt und ein weit entferntes Objekt betrachtet. Auch wenn man sich auf Crashkurs mit der Erde befindet wird man zu dem Glauben verleitet, dass man elegant auf einem Kissen aus Luft dahinschwebt. Für einige Menschen gibt es keine bessere Entspannungsmöglichkeit, als dieses seltsame Gefühl der Leichtigkeit zu erfahren. Jedoch mag dies noch immer nicht ausreichen, um den unerschütterlichen Appetit eines Hardcore-AdrenalinJunkies zu stillen.

Die Verwendung eines Snowboard-artigen Objektes ermöglicht dem Springer, durch einen sich erhöhenden Luftwiderstand beeindruckende Kunststücke zu vollführen. Man kann aber genauso gut in unkontrollierbare Drehungen geworfen werden und das Bewusstsein verlieren – was natürlich nicht ideal ist, wenn man mit mehr als 100 Meilen pro Stunde in Richtung Erde stürzt. Selbst gerade auf dem Board zu stehen erweist sich schon als schwierig, ganz zu schweigen von den fortgeschrittenen Luftmanövern wie zum Beispiel Saltos, Rollen und Helikopterdrehungen. Diese Aktivität wird als "Skysurfen" bezeichnet und normalerweise paarweise ausgeführt.

Einer der Partner vollführt die Kunststücke, während der andere die Performance seines Teampartners gekonnt auf Film festhält.

Skysurfen ist nichts für schwache Nerven. Es erfordert Stärke, Ausdauer und Mut. Außerdem erfordert es viel Durchhaltevermögen, so oft aus einem Flugzeug zu springen, bis man sich das Recht verdient hat, mit Board zu springen. Letztendlich handelt es sich um eine komplizierte, körperlich anspruchsvolle Aktivität, die nur von solchen Springern ausgeführt werden sollte, die über ein Höchstmaß an Erfahrung verfügen. Es ist die Kunst des Fallens – wenn sie korrekt ausgeführt wird, ist sie einfach faszinierend anzusehen.

The thought of jumping out of an airplane 12,000ft above the ground is enough to make most people sick to their stomachs.

Only those who are brave enough to make that significant first step are aware of how rewarding it can be.

At such dizzying heights, the ground is so far away that there are no reference points to indicate that a skydiver is moving at all, similar to the illusion created when driving a car on an open road whilst looking at a still object in the distance. Despite being on a crash course with earth, one is led to believe they are gracefully floating on a cushion of air. For some, there is no better way to relax than to experience this strange sense of weightlessness.

But it may not be enough to satisfy the unwavering appetite of a hardcore adrenaline junkie.

The use of a snowboard-like object allows the diver to perform impressive tricks by increasing drag, but one could just as easily be thrown into an uncontrollable spin and lose consciousness - which isn’t ideal when plummeting towards the earth at more than 100mph. Even standing upright on the board is difficult, let alone performing more advanced aerial maneuvers such as flips, rolls and helicopter spins. Sky surfing, as this activity is known, is usually conducted in pairs, whereby one diver performs tricks while the other skillfully tracks their teammate to capture the performance on film.

Sky surfing is not for the faint of heart. It takes strength, stamina and a lot of guts. It also requires deep pockets to be able to afford jumping out of an airplane enough times to earn the right to strap a board to one’s feet. After all, it is a complicated, physically demanding activity that should only be practiced by the most experienced of skydivers. It is the art of falling – when performed correctly, it is simply mesmerising to watch.

Strahlend wie die Alpen. Schroff wie die Berge. Eindrucksvoll wie das Massiv. So lässt sich der erste Eindruck zusammenfassen, wenn man vor dem PROLICHT Light + Building Messestand 2012 steht. Ein wenig gebirgig-verwinkelt und doch tiefschwarz glänzend erhebt sich der rätselhafte Block vor dem Besucher. Durchzogen von weißen, spitzen Zügen erinnert er an die schroffen Berge im Herzen Tirols. PROLICHT heißt so seine Besucher zweifach Willkommen, denn die Atmosphäre ist modern-heimelig – eine gute Mischung aus wachem Zeitgeist und solider Tradition.

Nach einer Erkundung des Äußeren lädt der Eingang ein, ähnlich einer Höhle tief in die leuchtenden Alpen vorzudringen. Die leicht verwinkelten Gänge und die geheimnisvollen Nischen fordern geradezu zu einer Erkundung auf. A curious deep black block, rugged, mountainous and shining rises in front of the visitors. The figure is laced with white, pointed lines that remind visitors of the rugged mountains in the heart of Tirol. This is the welcome that PROLICHT offers its visitors: a modern, yet familiar atmosphere is a good mixture of solid tradition and zeitgeist.

After discovering the outside, visitors are beckoned in by the entry, modelled on a cave deep in the glowing Alps. Am 9. und 10. März versammelten sich Kunst-, Bau- und Architekturbegeisterte im RadioKulturhaus in Wien, um interessanten Vorträgen und Diskussionen von namhaften Persönlichkeiten aus der Branche beizuwohnen. Highlight dieser beiden Tage war wohl der französische Architekt Dominique Perrault, der sein Projekt in der Donau-City in Wien vorstellte. Hier sollen die beiden höchsten Gebäude der Stadt entstehen und die Skyline Wiens komplett erneuern.

Die beiden Zwillings-Türme (DC-Towers) könnten der Donau-City endlich neues Leben einhauchen und sie in einen lebendigen urbanen Ort verwandeln. Perrault hat das Projekt auf dem Architekturfestival in Wien ausführlich präsentiert und diskutiert.

Bei der ‚Turn on 2012‘ ging es aber nicht nur um das facettenreiche Gebiet der Architektur per se, auch Themen wie Bodensysteme (Zorn/ Zottl), Dachausbau (Breuss/Hollinsky), Oberflächenrelief (Bein/ Nachbaur), Abdeckung von Entwässerungsrinnen (Schiller/Zechner) und eben auch die Lichtstimmung in der Architektur (Norz) wurden behandelt. Walter Norz weist in seinen Ausführungen vor allem auf die immer stärker werdende Bewusstwerdung bei Architekten, was die Wichtigkeit von Lichtinszenierungen bei den unterschiedlichsten Bau-Projekten betriff t, hin. Dieses Zusammenspiel von Tages- und Kunstlicht veranschaulicht und diskutiert er vor allem anhand realisierter Lichtkonzepte wie "dinner for friends" (VAPIANO, Arch.

Matteo Thun), "shop as stage" (eybl WORLD-STORE, Arch. Jo Güth), "form follows architecture" (SONY Tower Schlieren), "bubbles in the sky" (VIPNET, BEHF architects), "perfect green light" (BRAX Showroom concept 2011).

An den beiden Tagen waren geschätzte 1100 Besucher im RadioKulturhaus. Dass es sich dabei um Kunst- und Architekturinteressierte genauso wie um StudentInnen und Personen, die in der Branche arbeiten, handelte, ließ die Veranstaltung zu einem lebendigen und interessanten Ganzen werden. Es waren Vorträge und Diskussionsrunden für jedermann/frau dabei und die positive Resonanz der TeilnehmerInnen und ReferentenInnen erfreut das Herz der Organisatoren.

Neben Dominique Perrault und Adolf Krischanitz, zwei Stars der internationalen Architekturszene, hielt auch Walter Norz, Geschäftsführer der Firma PROLICHT einen Vortrag auf dem Wiener Architekturfestival ‚Turn on‘, das heuer bereits zum 10. Mal stattgefunden hat und somit auch noch ein Jubiläum feierte.

Along with such stars of the international architecture scene as Dominique Perrault and Adolf Krischanitz, Walter Norz, managing director of PROLICHT gave a presentation at the Vienna Architecture Festival “Turn on”, which is this year celebrating its 10th jubilee.

2012

On 9 and 10 May, art, construction and architecture fans congregated at the RadioKulturhaus in Vienna to experience interesting presentations and discussions featuring well-known industry personalities. The highlight of the two days was the French architect Dominique Perrault who was there to introduce his project in the Donau-City in Vienna. This project will feature the construction of the two highest buildings in the city, which will completely transform Vienna’s skyline. The DC Towers are twin towers which will breathe new life into the Donau-City, turning it into a lively, urban centre. Perrault presented and discussed the project at the Vienna architecture festival.

However, “Turn on 2012” was not just about the multifaceted area of architecture per se. Themes such as floor systems (Zorn/ Zottl), attic renovations (Breuss/Hollinsky), surface relief (Bein/Nachbaur), drainage channel covering (Schiller/ Zechner) and ambience in architecture through lighting (Norz) were also considered. In his presentation, Walter Norz discussed how architects are increasingly becoming aware of the importance of lighting schemes in all kinds of construction projects.

To explain the complex interactions of natural daylight and artificial light, he made reference to existing lighting concepts such as “dinner for friends” (VAPIANO, architect Matteo Thun), “shop as stage” (eybl WORLD-STORE, architect Jo Güth), “form follows architecture” (SONY Tower, Schlieren), “bubbles in the sky” (VIPNET, BEHF architects) and “perfect green light” (BRA X Showroom concept 2011).

Both days saw approximately 1100 visitors come to the RadioKulturhaus.

The fact that the visitors came from all over the art and architecture world - from students, to architecture hobbyists and industry representatives - made it a lively and interesting event. There were presentations and discussions for everyone and organisers were pleased at the overwhelmingly positive resonance among guests and presenters alike.

´ NAIVETE Three years had already passed without any sign of the final break that would mean that he had made it – even though he had an idea which was as simple as it was brilliant. “In 2004, a good friend of mine suffered a serious eye injury while skiing due to his glasses,” says Christoph Egger, founder of the company gloryfy. In addition to this, a couple with whom he was friends had a fight over a pair of broken glasses which had been sat on. This was the birth of the idea of a the unbreakable glasses.

So Egger began to work on his idea – an idea which had been haunting him – in Mayerhofen, a holiday town in Zillertal in Tirol, Austria. Using the profits from the sale of a patent for a mobile phone holder that he had developed, the qualified optician established a laboratory including a clean room. His mission: to develop a light, but robust, durable, flexible and unbreakable material. A material which could be developed, produced and processed without the help of external companies.

Three years went by and then the phone rang. A plastics technician from a small Tirol-based company called to tell Egger that he would have to see the “unbreakable glasses” idea for what it was: a mere vision. An impossible vision. “At the end of the day, it had been nothing but plain old naiveté that prompted us to continue with the project,” said Egger. Against better sense, he hired a new technician and together, they found a solution.

The final chapter of the story: success. On 4 October, Egger and his team delivered the first “gloryfy unbreakables”. The gloryfy passed its first practical tests, which were carried out by boxing legend Henry Maske himself, with flying colours. In 2009 gloryfy went into mass production. They are now worn by extreme sports greats such as Michi Albin (snowboard), Bernhard Hinterberger (wakeboarding), Hannes Arch (2008 Red Bull Air Race world champion) and Heinz Kinigadner (motorcross). Today, gloryfy eyewear has proven to be as unbreakable as Egger’s naiveté.

Drei Jahre waren bereits vergangen. Aber vom entscheidenden Durchbruch fehlte jede Spur. Dabei wäre die Idee so einfach wie brillant gewesen. „2004 hat sich ein guter Freund von mir beim Skifahren wegen seiner Brille eine schwere Augenverletzung zugezogen“, erzählt gloryfy-Firmengründer Christoph Egger. Hinzu kam noch ein Streit eines befreundeten Paares wegen einer kaputten Brille - draufgesetzt - und fertig war sie: die Idee einer unzerbrechlichen Brille.

In dem vor allem als Ferienort bekannten Mayerhofen im Zillertal in Tirol begann Egger, sein „Hirngespinst“ wie er damals noch sagte, zu verwirklichen. Mit dem Gewinn aus dem Patentverkauf einer von ihm entwickelten Handyhalterung, richtete der gelernte Optiker ein Labor samt Reinraum ein. Galt es doch, ein leichtes aber robustes, widerstandsfähiges, flexibles, vor allem ein unzerbrechliches Material zu entwickeln. Ein Material, das unabhängig von externen Firmen entwickelt, produziert und verarbeitet werden sollte.

Es vergingen drei Jahre. Und dann kam der Anruf. Einer der führenden Kunststoff techniker des kleinen Tiroler Unternehmens teilte Egger mit, man müsse die unzerbrechliche Brille als das ansehen, was sie sei. Eine Vision.

Eine unerreichbare Vision. „Schlussendlich war es schlicht und einfach Naivität die uns weitermachen ließ“, so Egger. Wider jede Vernunft fand er einen neuen Techniker und gemeinsam fanden sie eine Lösung.

Der Rest ist (Erfolgs)Geschichte. Am 4. Oktober liefern Egger und sein Team die ersten „gloryfy unbreakables“ aus. Den ersten Praxistest, vorgenommen von niemand geringerem als der Boxlegende Henry Maske besteht die „gloryfy“ mit Bravour. 2009 geht „gloryfy“ in Serienproduktion und stattet seit Extremsportgrößen wie Michi Albin (Snowboard), Bernhard Hinterberger (Wakeboarding), Hannes Arch (Red Bull Air Race Weltmaister 2008) oder Heinz Kinigadner (Motorcross) aus. Denn unzerbrechlich wie einst Eggers Naivität ist heute gloryfys’s unbreakable eyewear.
