Fortunate enough to be mates with the owners of one of Sydney’s busiest tanning salons – Tan Temple in Bondi – Matt and Lisa tweaked and tested the Sunescape formulas on Tan Temple customers for two years, in order to gain the crucial therapist and client feedback that helped them fine tune the formula until it ticked all the boxes. “We knew we were onto something when Tan Temple clients started to say, ‘Whatever you sprayed me with last time, I want that again!’” says Lisa. “Matt was trialling the final formula and a friend at the gym asked if he’d just come back from holidays, and that’s how the names of our shades were born!”
“We’d been working with salons for years when we noticed a huge gap in the tanning industry! Well, that is a reality for some of our current Sunescape salons. Let’s begin by looking at the basic numbers that are achievable even if you’re just starting out:
PRICE PER TA N An average tan can cost anywhere from $25 right up to $75, and if there was ever an opportunity to charge a premium, it is with a product like Sunescape. Having said that, we are going to work with $45 per tan, as this is a realistic price that any salon, in any region, can charge.
COS T OF solution PER TA N A 1 Litre solution in any of our signature solutions will cost $105/bottle, and each bottle will generate approximately 20 spray tans. So, your COGS are $5.25 per tan. If you are doing an above average number of tans, you can buy our solution in bulk for as little as $80/litre, which brings your COGS down to $4 per tan.
COS T OF wages PER TA N Even if one of your team members takes their time, they can still tan three clients in an hour without a problem.
