Making a Difference Pure Fiji endeavours to ensure our products will not only benefit our customers through exceptional performance and value - but will also positively impact the people and economies of the local communities from which the raw materials are sourced. From humble beginnings in the family kitchen with 5 dedicated staff wrapping hand-made soaps and bottling body oil, Pure Fiji now employs over 200 people across 2 factories in Fiji’s capital, Suva.
Pure Fiji has developed a symbiotic relationship with a network of farmers and harvesters from local villages who are a part of their production process.
The ability to provide jobs to the community and change lives is of the utmost importance to the
company’s belief that “where there is a hand, there is a heart and soul.”
While some processes could be automated, Pure
Fiji chooses to employ more people - believing in
human touch. Pure Fiji is a family business and every employee is part of our extended family.
To this effect, Pure Fiji has set up a variety of
community projects - including the production of
botanical extracts, paper-making, basket weaving, botanical and nut harvesting, and honey farming.
These village-based projects encompass promoting sustainable industries, basic business practices and rural community development.
ED U C AT I O N With island communities beginning to feel the pull of
the Western World, Pure Fiji believes that only through
education will future generations have the tools to protect and maintain both their communities and heritage in a changing social environment.
As such, Pure Fiji has been a national leader in providing
student scholarships to these communities for children at
a primary and secondary level. Additionally, Pure Fiji offers
assistance through the provision of desks, books and other
essential items for rural school libraries - as well as through contributions to the development of school buildings.

Pure Fiji’s Community PA PER M A K ER S The handmade paper project in Fiji was initiated by Pure Fiji 24 years ago to provide an income to villagers in
the highlands of Namosi. Beautiful handmade paper is
made from cellulose found in plant fibre and is brought down by horseback to the village. The women then
prepare the fibre, which is literally beaten to a pulp and dispersed in water – the paper is then used to wrap our handmade organic soaps.
Pure Fiji’s paper-making project is almost entirely run
by the women of these rural communities, empowering them in ways they have never experienced before.
NUT HARVESTING Pure Fiji produces a variety of cold pressed nut oils that are pressed at the source. The women within communities who harvest these nuts on isolated
remote islands now benefit from a new source of
income. The use of these oils has also been revived
and traditional healers in these villages are provided with oils to administer to those suffering from a
whole range of skin ailments and rheumatism. While the demand on this resource increases the nuts
continue to be harvested sustainably from only those which drop to the ground. There is also a planting
programme in place to ensure that any threatened

outside Suva. These women are kept busy weaving

The ladies claim to fame are the baskets they supplied for the launch of Pure Fiji at the Emmy Awards beauty event in 2002. This basket is now lovingly referred to as the ‘Emmy basket’ and has provided a little touch
