About the role: We are looking to appoint a mechanical engineer at our Lockerbie multi-site sawmill. Reporting to the shift engineering supervisors, you will be responsible for carrying out repairs, preventative and reactive maintenance across our multi-million-pound saw lines, secondary processing plants, log sorting lines, chemical treatment and kiln drying plants.

HGSS Operative (L1) Salary: Grade 6 Point 11 to Point 14 £28,142 to £29,540 per annum £14.58 to £15.31 per hour About the role: You will undertake a range of skilled tasks working on the highway network, operation of large goods vehicles, tools and equipment in relation to the service function of the highways, transport and recycling department. You will take part in the out of hours service including Winter maintenance which will include pre salting, ploughing and patrolling the network of both County & Trunk roads, working outside of normal hours and often in extreme and challenging weather conditions. About you: The right person will have; • Experience in Ground works • Under pinning knowledge of plant & equipment used in the maintenance of the highway • A full HGV / LGV Licence category C • An ability to communicate at all levels • Good organisational skills • The ability to work alone under pressure in adverse weather conditions What you will do: You will: • Work as part of a team carrying out highway maintenance. • React to safety defects. • Take part in the out of hours service including winter maintenance. • Carry out vehicle checks and record in driver defect books. Key tasks and responsibilities: • Carrying out repairs and overhauls in the workshops • Following detailed planned preventative maintenance schedule • Fault finding/diagnose technical process issues to resolve any breakdowns with minimal down time and impact on production • To work safely at all times complying with and using permit systems, method statements, dynamic risk assessments etc. • Assist in maintaining the highest standards of housekeeping and cleanliness • Assist management in driving positive change within the business and actively promoting a one team ethic throughout the site Skills and experience: • Must have a recognised engineering apprenticeship or similar qualification • Preferably 3-5 years engineering gained within a manufacturing environment • Experience in hydraulic and pneumatic principles would be an advantage • Basic computer skills including data entry • A flexible approach to work.
