"Let us rejoice .. . this is a day of joy and gratitude," Archbishop William J. Levada said as he spoke to a congregation that filled St, Mary's Cathedral Jan. 30 for a historic liturgy: the episcopal ordination of Bishop Ignatius C. Wang. The day was one of special joy for Catholics of Chinese heritage. Bishop Wang, a 12th generation Catholic born in Beijing, is the first priest of Asian heritage to be ordained a bishop in the United States, and the liturgy was punctuated with reminders of that heritage.
