Engineering, Protective Coatings, Mining, Equipment Hire, Transport, Rail and Onsite Services Overview Alfabs Group are a well-established heavy engineering company with a vast array of experience in engineering fabrication along with products and services including Protective Coatings, Mining, Equipment Hire, Transport, Rail and Onsite Services. Throughout the years Alfabs Group has had a close association with the mining, infrastructure, energy and construction industries.

Originally formed in the 1950’s as Alfabs Engineers, the company has been owned and operated as a family business since 1986 and remains under the direct management of the family owners. Alfabs Group are committed to maintaining their reputation of providing professional services while maintaining personal service and relationships with their clients. These commitments were the ideals behind forming our motto Quality On Time.

Alfabs employ some 60 employees over several business locations including our Head Office and various workshops at Kurri Kurri (Hunter Valley, NSW) along with branches / workshops in both Wollongong, NSW and Mackay, QLD. Engineering Alfabs Engineering’s employees have a wide range of engineering experience; including structural steel, detailed duct and pipework, coal conveyor and storage projects and scheduled on site maintenance projects. In addition, we have more than 5 acres of suitable for storage and pre-assembly work; and in conjunction with Alfabs Protective Coatings and Transport business units, Alfabs Engineering offers a one stop shop solution.

Alfabs Engineering’s workshop is located in Kurri Kurri in the NSW Hunter Valley. The main workshop comprises of 3000 square metres under cover, one 30 Tonne and three 15 Tonne overhead cranes (2 pair in tandem) with 7.2 metres under hook. The workshop size enables the use of mobile cranes to supplement lifting capacity. Alfabs Engineering have fabricated up to 150 Tonne sections in this particular workshop.

With the addition of offices and workshops in the Wollongong and Mackay regions, Alfabs can carry out works in these areas with a local approach.

Protective Coatings Alfabs Protective Coatings is located in Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley. The workshop is 2,000 square meters under cover with a 30 tonne lifting capacity crane to accommodate the larger projects. There is a purpose built blast chamber also to address larger projects that is 20 meters long and 8 metres wide by 5 metres high and doors at both ends making it one of the largest in the Hunter Valley.

Onsite Services Alfabs Group’s Onsite Services division has grown to providing a variety of quality onsite services to a diverse range of customers over the past 25 years.

Rail An integral part of heavy industry is the rail network that supports it by way of transporting coal, bulk materials and freight to various power stations, manufacturing facilities and ports for export.

Under the control of our Logistics Coordinator Alfabs Group run a fleet of transport vehicles to cover the transportation and delivery of internal and external jobs ranging from large steel sections, mobile plant and equipment to spare parts and consumables.

Equipment Hire The Alfabs Group has a fleet of over 500 pieces of hire equipment including Elevated work platforms (EWP’s or access equipment), materials handling equipment such as forklifts and telehandlers along with a wide variety of underground mining equipment such as QDS equipment, secondary support and materials handling and Poo Pod toilets.

Managed by our Hire Coordinator and supported by our team including dedicated Document and Logistics Coordinators plus a sales and administration team, you will receive the highest quality equipment, backed up by a service that is second to none.

Elevating Work Platforms Introduction of operator protective structure (OPS).

The Operator Protective Structure (OPS) attachment is designed to protect the EWP operator in the event of a collision during normal operation. Providing excellent operator visibility, the Operator Protective Structure is designed to transfer kinetic energy into surrounding structures while maintaining a protected area for the operator.Alfabs are committed to providing the latest safety equipment to assist in meeting jobsite safety requirements.

Refurbishment and Certification Alfabs Mining recommends that all equipment is refurbished on a regular basis to ensure that it operates at its optimum performance. During the refurbishment process, Alfabs ensures all current operator safeguards are in place and are in fit for purpose condition.

Alfabs can also assess the effectiveness of current safeguards and introduce new or increase existing safeguards to ensure that operator safety is as high as possible.

With the introduction of new or revisions of current standards and guidelines used in the mining industry, often equipment undergo a recertification process.

The process ensures the equipment is fit for purpose and all regulatory requirements are adhered to.

Alfabs Stability Test Plate Alfabs Mining Equipment have designed and manufactured a stability plate. It’s main function is to assess the stability of an LHD with a compatible attachment.

The Stability Plate is capable of being run off the LHD machine hydraulic source and is also supplied with its own battery supply unit. Stability testing allows for the user to determine the following for the specific attachment: • Maximum transport height • Maximum transport speed • Maximum cross grade

Alfabs now have 2 stability plates in their fleet, with the most recent including the following upgrades: • Fork Tyne pockets and drop down wheels to allow for easy transporting on site.

• On and off ramp to make the loading process easier.

• Simpler hydraulics circuit & control unit.

As there is no odour or effluent, only a small amount of completely clean, odour free sludge needs removal.

This eliminates the task of transferring night soil from latrines to a central disposal point normally associated with conventional sanitation systems and also results in significant manpower savings. Maintenance is a simple on the spot operation performed approximately every 18 months.

BAT BAGS The Alfabs Bat Bag is a specially designed, tested and certified, Bag, Hook and collar which is filled with stone dust. The Bat Bag is hung from roof mesh or along belt installation to form an explosion barrier. Bat Bags will bust at dynamic pressures as low as 5kPa releasing stone dust into the environment supressing and containing the explosion.

Ventilation Doors & Devices WDS offers design, fabrication and construction services for precision manufactured ventilation products. Included in its wide range of products are pressure rated overcasts, emergency escapes, access doors, baffle boxes, walkways and ramps to improve the underground safety for a wide range of industrial sectors.

5psi Ventilation Door The Alfabs ventilatian door is a unique design with split opposing doors to eliminate doors blowing open and closed due to high pressure. The ventilation door has the capability to be both opened and locked from both sides. The same air pressure that assists in opening also assists in closing it. Consequently air pressure is equalised. The Alfabs ventilation door is rated at 5psi and has large openings to aid in emergency evacuations when wearing CABA or using stretchers.

The doors are available in 3 different sizes, 1240mm, 1600mm, and 2100mm with a standard width of 1100mm. They can also be custom built to suit your requirements. They have been designed for easy maintenance and are provided with an installation safe work procedure. Upon request Alfabs can supply a structural report.

2psi Ventilation Door The Alfabs 2psi ventilation door has been designed and engineered in Australia for use in underground mines in low pressure areas and is rated to 2psi.

The door is relatively light weight and can be easily installed by two persons. With safety and emergency procedures in mind, the 2psi vent door is large enough to allow for easy passage end escape. With the ability to be opened and closed from either side of the door, this is a great multipurpose door suitable for most mining conditions.

CABA STORAGE POD 21 UNIT CABA QUICK FILL POD The CABA Quick Fill Pod has been designed for the safe refill of Caba Units during an emergency evacuation. It Features correctly rated storage tanks, stainless steel piping and pressure gauges for monitoring and maintenance.

The Caba Storage Pod is specifically designed to store CABA self-rescuers. The shelves are fitted with shock absorbing material to prevent damage to CABA units during transport. PROP SETTER (for Can Clamp)

The Alfabs Can Clamp is designed to allow the safe transport and installation of roof support cans. The Can Clamp rotates 90 degrees each way to allow for better/faster installation. It also has fail safe loadlock cartridges installed to prevent the loss of the can in the event of a collision with the roof or rib.

The Alfabs Can Clamp can be fitted with a Timber Prop Setter attachment, the Prop Setter reduces manual handling and the number of men needed for the task as well as increasing the amount of props installed per hour. The Timber Prop Setter is fitted with bolts which allows for it to be quickly attached and removed.

MULTI PURPOSE REELER The Mutli Purpose Reeler has been designed for the safe and efficient handling and transport of conveyor belt, electrical and steel cables. The belt/cable is picked up rather than being pulled or dragged minimising chance of damage. The Multi-Purpose Reeler is fitted with stabilising legs to enable correct alignment with structures and also features a two pin locking system on chucks which retains the spool and prevents loss.

Our Reeler can be designed to customers pre-existing spools. The Multi-Purpose Reeler has adjustable flow control to allow for speed adjustment and has an optional free wheel or two speed Hi/Low Functions.

FLINGER DUSTER The Flinger Duster is the safest and most efficient machine for underground Roadway Dusting. The Flinger Duster centrifugally casts the stone dust towards the roof and ribs of the section being dusted at a controlled rate. The machine consists of a hopper that delivers stone dust via a flinger blade and screw auger to the dual flinger motors. The Flinger Duster can be suppled in 2.4t & 4.8t.

SALT SPREADER ROCK HAMMER The QDS Rock Hammer has been designed as a safe and efficient means to break rock, concrete and other common materials commonly found in an underground coal mine environment. Its design incorporates the use of a hydraulic circuit to cycle the chisel at 600 blows per minute.

The Salt Spreader is designed with a hydraulic flinger to spread salt for roadway maintenance.

The Salt Spreader is manufactured with a stainless steel hopper and galvanized frame to prevent rust. The Salt Spreader can be fitted with a screened top to break the salt.

Mining Equipment Underground Winches The Alfabs Winches have been designed to provide the optimum solution for the installation and removal of AFC chain during the longwall relocation process and conveyor belt installations.

The Winches have been designed to be transported by a range of current industry standard large LHD machines; The 10t and 20t Winches design incorporates the use of a QDS plate or locking tabs on the 50t Winch to secure the Winch to the machine to prevent movement during transport.

To prevent unplanned movement of the winch and the potential dangers associated with this, the winch structure includes securing points to be used inconjunction with Roof bolts to bolt the winch to the mine floor. The winch also includes Tie-Back Rudd lugs to secure the winch to counterweights as an alternative method of securing.

To ensure operator safety and reduce potential risk hazards the Winches has been designed with the intent of complying with a range of standards.

PAN PICKER The Alfabs Pan Picker has been designed for the removal and installation of pans in Longwall installations and relocations. The Pan Picker has a tilt function on both sides to allow for installation and recovery on uneven lines and also has a sideshift movement to allow the LHD to be further away as well as allowing accurate positioning. Unlike traditional Pan Pickers that rely on swivel locking tongues, the Alfabs Pan Picker features lateral moving tongues that allow for more precise/ secure engagement even when not aligned.
