Let’s get right into it: There has never been a better time to prepare your practice for an expansion of both income and services than right now; especially with all of the discussions of a looming recession.

According to most economic experts, there are 5 to 7 business categories that actually thrive and expand during recessions. I will share all of them with you later, but the most important thing for you to know NOW is that healthcare services, our industry, ranks number two overall on that expansion list.

This means that you are unquestionably in the“catbird seat,” provided that you understand and apply the next several sets of moves.

Option 2 : The public perception of what we do and how we do it is not bright enough to capture a higher percentage of the population.

The pathway to a recession-proof practice is about improving your related services and the associated ways in which to have patients pay.

For over 30 years I’ve been watching closely while working within, by helping innovate technologies and creating marketing and business expansion tools to help chiropractors transform their practices. My current initiative is called the Practice Results Group and has a slogan: Going Global!

During my 30+ year career of observation and integration in private practices, hospitals, governments, orthopedic centers, physical therapy groups and dozens of other businesses, I have concluded that expansion of any business or practice really boils down to focusing on a couple of simple ideas: 1. Who is the target audience for the services that you provide?

2. How can you leverage the latest technology to create unique opportunities to market to your target audience?

If you are a chiropractor, you know it’s not the first scenario.

Let’s focus then on Option 2, which dictates that we change the perception of our profession by casting a larger net. By doing so we create the opportunity to properly expose, educate and teach the general population about how good we are at helping people improve their health and well-being.

According to the National Institute of Health, of the $900 billion being spent on pain and pain syndromes annually, the Chiropractic industry sits at about $9 billion of that total. This is just one more metric that tells us that our market share equals 1%.

My proposal to you is this: Challenge yourself to think outside the box today.

In order for change to occur in your practice, community or our profession at large here in the United States, we have to reach back to the beginning of this article and talk about marketing and technology.

I’m hopeful this discussion will stimulate some thoughts in your mind about accelerating your implementation of systems to not only attract a new market with new sets of conditions, but also about integrating the associated technology to go with them in order to put you on a completely different platform than the Chiropractic practice that you might be known for right now.
