Established in 2007, MD Developments is a privately-owned construction company based in London and is a part of MD Group. The company offers scaffolding, transportation and haulage, brick and block works, and cleaning services. Executive Director Eduard Iutchis discussed the company’s quality standards and sustainable practices, in conversation with Antonia Cole.
MDDevelopments began as a small ten-employee business providing labour force to other brickwork subcontractors. Now, it has developed into a successful construction company with a scaffolding sister company and a cleaning department. As MD Developments evolved, it expanded in terms of both labour force and physical space, now operating on a larger premises and generating an annual turnover of £35 million.
As part of MD Group, MD Developments benefits from the services of its sister company, MD Scaffolding, which provides various types of scaffolding across a range of residential, commercial and industrial projects. This includes, but is not limited to, tubes and fitting, system scaffolds, stair towers, loading bays, and ready lock systems.
Though the transportation and assembly of high-quality scaffolding and access solutions, MD Scaffolding supports MD Developments in delivering a full and meticulous construction service, with clients’ needs at the forefront of operations.

With a team of over 650 skilled professionals contributing to the company’s success, MD Developments has the capability to deliver high-quality construction services to clients efficiently and effectively. The company has an unyielding dedication to safety standards, whilst offering a flexible and solution-focused approach to satisfy client requirements.
“At MD Developments, we deliver an exemplary and professional service,” said Executive Director Eduard Iutchis. “Our clients are always our top priority and we work hard to make sure that we are meeting their requirements and expectations in every project we undertake.”
Protecting the planet
MD Developments is ISO9001:2015, ISO14001:2015 and ISO45001:2018 certified. This means that the company’s residential and commercial building solutions are meeting the required criteria of the British Standards Institution. The company strives to maintain a quality system that continues to meet these requirements in every project it undertakes, and to act in a way that minimises environmental impact. Whilst aiming to satisfy the requirements of customers, stakeholders and interested parties whenever possible, MD Developments is committed to operating in compliance

with environmental codes of practice within all activities, products and services.
In operations, the company aims to protect the environment through the prevention of pollution and the sustainable usage of resources. By acting intentionally in terms of energy, fuel and material usage, MD Developments can reduce waste and emissions from activities.
To reduce transportation emissions, the company has been using vans to limit the necessary number of vehicles on the road. By increasing the capacity of vehicles, fewer are needed to achieve the same outcome, so fuel use is minimised, and harmful emission production is reduced.
The company also works to protect biodiversity and ecosystems within operations by paying attention to the natural environments it is working within.
This means identifying natural habitats and limiting to what extent they are disturbed throughout construction.
“Not only is sustainability important for us as a company, but it is important for our clients too,” explained Mr Iutchis. “Our clients can be confident that our operations are safe, ethical and sustainable, and that we are constantly improving in these areas as a company.”
As well as protecting the environment, MD Developments is committed to providing safe working conditions to employees. The

prevention of work-related injuries and illhealth is integrated into the company’s operations at every level to verify that all of MD Developments’ employees are treated fairly and with care.
This Quality, Environmental and OH&S Policy allows MD Developments to continuously monitor, review and achieve goals in relation to the environment and people. Employees are fully educated in these areas in order to integrate these targets and objectives throughout the company. To ensure continuous improvement in

these areas, MD Development regularly reviews policies and targets and adjusts them as necessary.
Specialised services
MD Developments has completed many projects across England. From regeneration projects to
residential developments, the company has a broad portfolio of works and a lot of experience in meeting a variety of client requirements.
“We are currently working on a project for Taylor Wimpey,” said Mr Iutchis. “They have worked with us multiple times before, attesting to our high-quality service and ability to satisfy clients. This project involves a lot of work, sometimes requiring 70 bricklayers on site at one time.
“On this project, we are utilising our

workforce to deliver an efficient, but still high-quality result. Every employee at MD Developments has a strong work-ethic. We all work together to get the job done in a manner that is time-efficient and satisfies the client.”
To further meet client requirements, the company introduced a post-construction cleaning department as a specialist division. This service provides a full range of cleaning and refurbishment services in and around Greater London, Hampshire, Kent and Surrey, with more areas available upon request.
“This idea originated through our attention to employee wellbeing,” explained Mr Iutchis. “The department was created to employ our existing worker’s family members. This means

that families can work together on a similar schedule and maintain a happy work-life balance.”
All cleaning teams are highly trained and detail oriented. They pay close attention to quality standards and adhere to health and safety guidelines whilst working on site.
Reliable relationships
To maintain MD Developments’ high standards, the company selects suppliers that reinforce this level of quality and fosters reliable partnerships that allow for efficient and dependable services. MD Developments makes sure that it is a reliable partner by ensuring all payments are made on time and by sustaining honest, open communication with suppliers.
“A supplier who has been really good to us is Dorsey Construction Materials,” said Mr Iutchis. “We have built up a strong relationship with them, as we aim to do with all of our suppliers. At MD Developments, we are dedicated to serving our clients and delivering the best possible results, but this would not be possible without the expertise of our suppliers.
“Also, the quality of our work is a result of the training employees receive through training centres, such as the Focus Training Centre in London.”
As the company continues to progress, it hopes to employ a total of 1,000 people and to expand to cover more areas across
the UK. MD Developments hopes to create another office, increasing the capacity of operations.
“I see a bright future for MD Developments,” concluded Mr Iutchis. “We have a talented team of diligent, dedicated people that are essential to our growing success. It is very rewarding to work with likeminded people and to see the company grow alongside employees. Each day here is different, but I know that I can always count on my team.” n
