QUESTION: Over the years you • ve spent a consJ.derable amount of time attempt ing to track down UFOS. Some bug must the way have bitten you somewhere along to keep your interest up in the face of what can often be a very frustrating subject . WENDELLE STEVENS: My interest in UFOs probably came out of my involvement in modeling. As a kid I used to spend a lot o� time collecting World War I model kits and drawing scale mode ls of tne planes from this era . I even so ld some of these drawings to magazine s. So when I got into the service and graduated from pilots school I went to the first test pilot program run by · the Air Force . I went to work at Air Materia ls Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, which later became the home of Project Blue book. At Wright-Patterson I studied advanced aeronautical technology. The n I went to a combat assignment and from that back to Wright-Patterson again. My last assigment there was with the Air Technical Intel ligence division. Project Grudge was also a pa� of the Air Technical Intell igence Division -- they were right down the hall . One of my jobs was screening the documents that came into the facility from conquered countrie s . We were look ing for new design inno vations, tech. nical breakthroughs; that sort of tning. The information that as cro ssing my desk was keeping me up to date on all the latest aero-technica l advanceme nts •. QUESTION: What was your official capacJ.ty J.n those days? WENDELL E STEVENS: I was a rated test pilot and my additional duty was to screen the incoming documents along 1li. th a team· of people wbo ! super vised. We would abstract the documents. we would take them out to those who were working on that particular technological science and they in turn would brief us as to what direction they we.re headed and what to look for. We keep going back and forth like this. EVentually, I left that assignment and · went to Alaska wbere I vas assigne d to an Army base in -Fort Richardson. I was one of tvo Air Force Air Corp officials workin� there at the time. My particular duty as assistant operations officer, whiCh was completely out of my field, was briefing and debrie fing the crews who flew on weather reconnaissance programs. we did, however, have a nUIIber of classified writers who were also assigned to the proje ct . My personal job was to install special equipment on board the B-29s that were going out regularly. We put mapping cameras on board, and we put emission scanne rs inside the planes that were equippe d with l.6DDD .cameras with cartridge film in .1.t . We also had 35mm movie cameras and still cameras, and even a 70m camera . QUESTION: What year was this?' · WENDELL STEVENS: This was in 19 4 7. This eqlllpment was put on board the airplanes that were assigned to fly patterns over the polar air space . 'ftley would go up there and fly their pattern which would take them maybe

three or four hours, and then they would come back to Anchorage where we would debrie f the crews, take all of the f ilm and send it to Washington c hained to a Lieutenant's wrist. QUESTION: You mean your work was consJ.dered that essential? Wmm ELLE STEvENS: Whateve�it. was�we were looking for was hot . It wasn't the weather proje ct . It was the classified stuff. I heard some fantastic stories from the crews about metalic disc(./ shaped oojects that would be moving at very high speeds, faster than any thing we knew could fly. They would a·lso stop, stand still in the air, and the y could go straight up or down. The y could even make an approach at an angle or come at you head on and the n reverse dire ctio n . �re was one · c ase 1;eported where t,qe object got in the slot between the trailing edge of the main wing and the leading e dge of the tail wing, along side of the fuselage and sat there for three or four minute s . They got movie pictures and still pictures of this through a side window. Tbey were really good · pictures. · / Whe n some of t hese good stories ' would come in, I would try to find out what was on the f ilm, but they would never tell me. They just said it was weather data and let it go at· that. On another occassion an object was seen below the surface of the Artie sea . It rose to the surface, and sat on the water them shot up into the air a little ways, then zipped off at high speed. This was clearly something that no aircraft that I knew of could do. QUESTION: What part of the year did most of these incidents take place in?

WENDELL E STEVENS: We didn't run as .many flights in the winte r. We did have some sightings in extreme cold weathe r . We ha d B29s flying survey missions at temperatures as low as 29 degrees below zero . These strange aircraft were operating out the re with out any apparent ground support facilitie s of any kind. On the other hand, we had a fantastic ground support system. We had underground hangers and e ve rything . And we had to use heated fuel to put .in the airplanes and we had to keep the tanke rs inside the hangers so that the hoses wouldn' t freeze on us. These craft -- whoseever· the y were - didn't seem to have any of the problem� that confronted us. QUESTION: Didn 1 t you think they ·belong to the Russians? WEHDELLE STEVENS: My superiors thought that the Russians might have eJq)erienced some kind of a breakthrough,. but they didn't have the background that I had for evaluat ion. I didn't think there was any way the Russians could have experienced such a major breakthrough. The y could not have captured anything from the Germans that could do the things these objects did. In fact, the Russian indostry was just recovering from it's devastation by the Nazi's. I didn • t think it could be any e arth .made device. QUESTION: Did you see anythirig yourself at that time? WEHDELLE STEVENS: No, I never saw anything. We e ven had fighter fire o n s oae of these. We never brought any :down, but we did have them land ·-after 1=JleY had been fired upon and then they would take off and fly away.

When I attempted to get more infor mation about these things and had doors slammed in my face, I really got curious, After that Alaska • ·assignment -- I was up �ere two years -- I came back to the States and went to military school in Maxwell Field, Alabama. One of the courses called on all of us in the class to suddenly give a speech. The idea was to try and be convincing -about some subject, and you had five minutes to get your idea across. I couldn't think of anything to con vince anyone about until I thought of the UFOs. My s�eech was "UFOs Are Real,"and I gave a summary of why I felt that way. At the end of that class I got called down to the commandant's office and there were two men there with badges that warn ed me that I was discussing national security information and wanted to know what authorization I had to do so. Their attitude really surprised me and if I had any doubts left �out the existance of UFOs, they were erased from my mind that day. These men were serious about this and they ��d keep me from talking abo�t it , until I got out of the service. QUESTION: What year was that? WENDELLE STEVENS: 1963. Immediate ly,! started. buy1ng all of the mag azines I could find. I started clipp ing reports from newspapers, and I even stumbled onto a couple of orig inal photographs. I got hold of the negatives and I started exchanging tnose pictures in my collection with anyone else who had good shots. I started to build a file of prints in this way. At the time August C. Roberts had the pig file. I was try ing to catch up to him. I. never did until he got tired about 10 years ago and slowed down. He still has some pictures I was never able to trade away from him, and now I've -got a few that he doesn • t have. Later, I met Mike Mann when he came to Tucson and we swapped prints. When he went back to New York he proceeded to ex�hange my photos with other peo'ple and in turn sent me_ copies of the material he got from them. In this manner my file kept growing and growing until now I have over 3,000 actual prints of UFOs, either prints or slides. QUESTION: Were any of these photos taken by military personnel? WENDELLE STEVENS: Yes, there were a couple. One photo was taken by a Commander Childerhose as he flew his Sabre-6 jet from Gimli,Manitoba, to Vancouver,B.C. in August, 1956. I never did see any from Alaska, though from experience I knew they had to exist in classified military files. over the years I built up a circle of correspondents all over the world. That's how I eventually got hold of an amazing series of color shots taken �y Billy Meier Df . Switzerland. . QUESTION: Most everybody around knows that· Billy_Meier is a rather controversial contactee.· Did you start out believing in-such encount ers? WENDELLE STEVENS: Not really. I didn't actually think that contacts were taking place until after the Travis Walton case hit the press. About that time Sergeant Charles Moody had an experience and I flew Jim Lorenzen of APRO over to interview J:tim for the first time. Moody seemed very sincere. He was taken on board and examined. That made me wonder a lot about how real contacts might actually be. QUESTION: But, how did you end up going all the way to Switzerland and getting involved with the Meier case? WENDELLE STEVENS: There was a woman UFOlogist Whom I had been swapp ing photos with for five or six years, and she was the niece of Carl Jung. When the Swiss piqtures turned up in her country only 60 kilometers 'from where she lived, she went t9 see the guy who had taken them. This was in 1975. When she got to where he liv ed she found eight other witnesses who had seen one thing or another. She stayed there two or three days examining_the photographs and talking to the people. She picked up additional photos and sent copies over to me via air mail. QUESTION: Up to this time how many photographs had been taken? WENDELLE STEVENS: About· 25 or 30 I would say. She wrote me a letter

about her trip-and two weeks later carried a letter I had written dir ectly to Meier. She wrote me a·post card which was my first real signal that something important was happen ing. She said she would be in Tucson in three weeks and would I be home in order to meet her? I responded by saying that I would be awaiting her ·arrival. When she came she had about 16 of these pictures tak�n by Billy Meier with her. The pictures were super fantastic. I had never seen any thing like them before. I tried t9 get copies from her, but she had promised Billy that she would not l�t them out of her hands, and would not allow anyone to make copies of them. After returning home she event ually did receive permission to make copies for me. We developed a line of communication where I would write to ·her in �glish and she would translate my ietter and send-it to Meier in Ger man, and he would write to her in Ger man, and she would translate it and so fortft. This went qn for eight or nine months before I decided I'd better

go and look this guy in the eye · He was taking more and more pictures and they all looked really good. carl Jung • s niece told me that a friend of hers, Elsma Jacobi, had been translating some of Meier's original notes pertaining to his con tact with beings from the Pleiades star system. Elsma Jacobi was kind enough to send me all th� material she had been able to gather from Meier. What I re�d interested .me greatly and I put an immediate call th�ough to my contact to see if she could go.to Meier's home with me should I travel all the way over there. She told me she was going to be out of the country at the time, but she said Elsma . Jacobi would be happy to go along with me. So I flew to London, took the train to link up wieh Elsma Jacobi in Reasmon and from there we went to zurich and on to Meier's place out in the country. QUESTION: What was your first im pression of this man? WENDELLE STEVENS: He shook my hand and surpr�sed me p y saying, •

'Pleased to meet you Mr.Stevens.' He said hello in English·although I had been told he didn't speak a word of the language. I told him I had been very-anxious to look him squarely in the eye and had a lot of questions I wanted to ask: He said, 'I've heard a , lot about you Mr. �tevens and I -would be happy to answer any questions that � can,' He spoke slowly and clearly while-the translator sat with her ·

I asked him how long he had been speaking English,and he had to admit that he couldn't think in English, but said if I talked real slow he could answer a few words. So I spoke slowly and his English improved a lot quicker my German did. I stayed there for almost 10 days and by end of that 'time I could co� unicate with without anyone else being present. When I got back home I started toJWrite him in English and be would have someone read it for him. Then he started answering me in Eng lish and that cut the translators out. QUESTION: Are you suggesting that the supernormal was at play in this � instance? WENDELLE STEVENS: Something was being done -- probably of the nature of language programming aboard the spaceships. Meie� eventually had the same thing.happen in Greek too. His wife wa.s Greek and didn' t speak much German and he spoke very little Greek, and when·they'd get angry at each other he'd speak German and she'd speak Greek and they couldn't understand each other. QUESTION: · P1ease tell our readers a little b�t about the Meier contact case. What does he claim, and when did his contacts supposedly start?� WENDELLE STEVENS: It's interesting as contacts began at a much earl ier time. As in a number of similar· cases we find that when a meaningful_ recurring contact takes place, it appear� that witness has been developed over a long p�riod of time. QUESTION: How old.is Meier now? WENDELLE STEVENS: He was 41 when the contacts began. He is about 45 now, but he had his first UFO exper ience when he was about five years old. He saw a large circular·craft ·pass over the church steeple. It was bigger than the church, but no more than two lengths of the church steeple high. It had to be real low. After passing over the church it passed over some houses in town and flew away. He asked his father about it and his father said it must be one of those new German aircraft. But young Meier Knew it wasn't an aircraft because he was interested�·in airplanes and knew all the different styles. Even at five or six he knew basicly whose aircraft was whose. He could see American bombers going to Germany and coming ba9k. Anft then he'd see-German airplanes. He knew it wasn•·t any of those. Shortly after that he saw another unusual object in the sky. �en after that he began to -hear voices in his head. He didn't know what they were, but one t'ime in church he told his Sunday school teacher because the other kids had told it was the devil. The teacher told him she didn • t think it was Satan. and wanted to know what the voices said. Billy told the minister that the vo�ces didn't say bad"things. The min ister said it was probably some form of telepathy. Meier heard the voices until he was eight • . Then when he was in school he heard a new voice which was a much olde'r voice. The new voice guided his thinking and helped him find solutions to problems. Meier found that he was running ahead of his classmates in some practical things. He found that he lost interest in school. This was grade school and his family was very poor coropared to the other people in his school. He didn't have money for lunches and had to.borrow paper and pencils. He didn't even have money for clothes. The other kids picked on him and staged pranks, making him_look like the perpetrator. He got in trouble for it. ·The teach�r wouldn't listen to . To this day, he blames the teach er for not seeing what was going on. He felt a degree of superiority. He decided that school was not the place for because of what happened. He started skipping class, but the voices tutored him. �ey cgntinued guiding him and-he developed at about the same rate as the rest of the kids. Meier left school in t�e sixth,grade

and never.Went�·back� He wasn' forced to go back because the teachers didn't really want hLm back. They thought he was trouble maker of the school. That experience strengthened him to stand alone and take what society"had to offer without complaining to any one. It might have been some form of conditioning. He became fairly in dependent. When he was twelve he started driving a tractor for a friend� By the ttme he was 14 he was driving an automobile as well as a truck. At 15 someone asked him to -enter a race. By 18 he-was racing ·cars on a· racing circui�. He did some professional car racing uritil he was twenty. then he began to travel. He worked his way to other countries. We can te�l if we are dealing with superimposed overlays , reflected images , double exposures. We can tell by looking through special microscopes and search ing for grain density and grain patterns. We can pretty much tell if an object has been thrown into the air or suspen�ed by something in iihe air. Suspension is a little less easy to detect by,a tossed object from a still photograph. But we can tell how far ·a given object in a picture really is. We can do all of this with a computer by �tudying the edges around any giv en object. In high magnification an edge is seen as a series of shock waves. There is a special formula for the spacing of these shock wa�es that make up the edge. Bow strong they are , how far apart they are will tell you how far apart that edge of the obj�ct is from the camera. If the body is in motion , the shock waves are comp�essed on the leading edge, and _

way you can look at the edges of an object in a flat two dimensional picture and find out a great deal about the objects in that photo.When -we look at the Meier photos we find , that in some of the pictures the objects are in motion. We can even tell which direction the objects are going in.
