TM

Food Prize Year 4! This year, Food Prize reaches for culinary awesomeness and joins its rightful place at the table of Prize events by bringing four incredible days of local and celebrity chefs cooking for your culinary pleasure. It’s a non-stop festival of food and drink like none other in the entire region.

Who can attend Food Prize? Each Food Prize event is ticketed separately, but there are two events open to the general public. However, if you simply must do it all, you can buy a Pro Pass or VIP Platinum Pass which gets you into all four nights along with all the film and music events!

Local Chefs Compete for the Food Prize Golden Fork Award

Five local chefs will compete for culinary stardom. Four chefs advanced by creating exemplary meals for the Food Prize’s Society of the Golden Fork Dinner Club. One chef advanced to the finals by being the Shreveport Times Peoples Choice.

Jessica Comegys

Jessica Comegys is the owner of Caspiana Catering. She offers meal prep services featuring made-from-scratch dishes in her Shreveport kitchen using local seasonal vegetables, sprouted whole grains, pasture-raised meats, and sustainably sourced seafood.

Eleazar Mondragon

Eleazar was born and raised in Mexico where he was inspired by family cooks. He began culinary school at BPCC in 2010, then Le Cordon Bleu in 2011. Eleazar is co-owner of Ki Mexico with his brother where many family members also work.

Jacob Dowlen Mouser

Jacob’s eclectic style reflects the many adventures his career has taken him on, be it catering for the film industry, traveling with cirque du soleil, or working in restaurants. Currently Sous Chef at Frank’s Napoletana, he’s never felt more at home.

John Strand

John is the owner of Accents Personal Chef Service. Strand specializes in fine dining, weekly prepared meals and catered events. With over 32 years of experience, Chef Strand guarantees an unforgettable culinary experience wherever you are.

Kristi Tift

Kristi Tift is this year’s People’s Golden Fork Chef, and the owner and chef behind Bossier City’s Retro 521. Her father was a chef, so she grew up working in his cafe. At first she avoided the restaurant life, but quickly came to realize she wanted to share her ideas and finished good eats with others. 15

Meet the Food Prize Judges Regina Charboneau

Regina has worked as a camp cook in the bush of Alaska, created restaurants in San Francisco, and been chef de cuisine on a set of luxurious railway cars. Her nightclub Biscuits & Blues won multiple WC Handy awards.

Barclay Dodge

Originally from Aspen, cooking quickly became a deep love of Chef Dodge’s. Restaurants were one of the few places that would employ the youth. For the last twenty-five years, he has traveled and cooked between Aspen and other parts of the country and globe. He developed a great reputation and clientele and the community is always curious as to what is next for the talented chef.

Erik Harrelson

Erik hails from San Francisco. He honed his skills at acclaimed Bay area establishments, including Gary Danko, Cavalo Point, Daniel Patterson’s Plum in Oakland, and Bar Agricole. Before breaking out on his own, he was the corporate chef for Tyler Florence’s restaurant group and Test Kitchen project. Harrelson now consults privately internationally for restaurants and resorts.

Elana Horwich

Born to parents who defrosted, Elana began cooking as a young child because the kitchen was the only place in the house her mother couldn’t find her. She spent five years in Italy learning to cook from an Italian mamma in a Tuscan villa. In 2010, she returned to Los Angeles, and founded the Meal and a Spiel cooking school out of her parents’ kitchen, and now travels the country teaching people how to make phenomenal food, easily.

Josh Harmon

Joshua Harmon is an Eater chef of the year and was named one of 17 chefs to look out for in the US by Zagat. Born in Tennessee, raised in Texas and California, he blends together his love and skills for Asian and southern like they were born for each other. Starting first as a temporary chef at Kitchen LTO, Joshua transformed the since-revamped eatery into one of Dallas’ most exciting dining destinations.

The first night of Music Prize is incredibly special. Five local musicians will compete for your vote for the Music Prize trophy! The winner will also play Saturday night with Superchunk & Bully!

Ghost Foot

Ghost Foot is a two piece from Shreveport, LA in the style of old school garage band punk. With Jacob Disedare on guitar/vocals and Dacoda Montana on drums/vocal, the songwriting has a good amount of folk-like sensibility with fuzzed out rock-n-roll.

Good Spirits

Brandon Pruiett (guitars, keys, vocals), Luke Wharton (guitars), Derek Henry (drums, vocals), & Chris Spickerman (bass) make up Good Spirits from Shreveport, LA. Catchy vocal hooks, ambient guitars, solid groovy bass and drums gives them a spacey indie alt rock vibe.

The Joanitones

The Joanitones are a multi genre and multi generational band from Shreveport comprised of Joanie Nerrettig (vocals/guitar), Steve Benton (bass/vocals), Kyle Martin (guitar), Marc Miller (drums/vocals). Their sound is groovy, melodic, hypnotizing, relaxing, and ear catching.

Ricky Latt & Tipsey the Band

Tipsey is the house band for Shreveport’s Artipsy and Bon Temps Coffee Bar. A 9-piece artillery equipped with poets and recording artists, the eccentric, urban Tipsey provides a high energy, interactive show. You’ll definitely dance the night away whether you’re tipsy or not!

Logan & The Legendaries

Logan & the Legendaries is a LA rock and roll band from all over the northern part of the state. Playing songs written by front man Logan Lewis, the Legendaries are comprised of a revolving cast of band members from exceptional regional bands. 19

Mainstage Extravaganza at Artisan’s Court [All Ages]

Saturday, October 6. Doors at 7:00 p.m. Come make indie music history. Featuring two of the most amazing bands playing on the music fest and club scene. Do not miss this! Music Prize VIP Room and bar will be open!

Superchunk

Perhaps no band was more emblematic of the true spirit of American indie rock during the 1990s than Superchunk, the pride of Chapel Hill, NC. Following the D.I.Y. ethic to the letter, the bandmembers operated solely by their own rules, ignoring all passing trends by sticking to their trademark sound -- typified by the buzzing guitars and high, impassioned vocals of frontman Mac McCaughan -- and rejecting all major-label advances in favor of the unlimited freedom afforded by owning their own company, the highly successful Merge Records.

Bully

Fronted by Alicia Bognanno, Bully was born in 2013. Bognanno was an engineer who had cut her teeth working at Electrical Audio in Chicago. Together with guitarist Clayton Parker and Reece Lazarus on bass, they made a debut album, received unanimous critical acclaim and Bognanno became a point of intrigue. The success propelled the band into an exhaustive touring cycle with spots on huge festivals such as Bonnaroo, Lollapallooza, Pitchfork Music Festival and ACL and a late night appearance on Conan. 20
