President 2018-19 | Dr Maki Wan DG YC Ho, DGE Wilson Cheng, Distinguished Guests, Fellow Rotarians and Friends: It is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you as the President of Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile. Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for gracing our Ball tonight. I sincerely thank you for supporting our Annual Charity Ball, which is the most important fund raising event for KGM. Being the largest Rotary Club in Hong Kong, KGM, we are truly blessed for being surrounded by so many amazing people. No words are enough to express my gratitude and thankfulness to our title sponsor of the ball, Mrs. Purviz R Shroff – we thank you for your generous and continuous support to our Club every year! In Rotary, we are all volunteers with the same mission: we would like to make a difference in our community. I am so proud to announce that two of our members have been awarded by the Hong Kong government last year for their contribution to the community: PP Silva received Medal of Honour, and PP Nanu received Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service. Together with the senior leaders in our Club, our service toward the community will not go wrong. We will continue to focus on the needs of underprivileged people. We provide free medical checks for elderly people, serve free dinners for special needs communities, organizie visits to street sleepers, and we also extend our helping hands to people living in developing countries. We have established our own KGM center in Cambodia to serve the people there. Your support will ensure the continued success of our international and community services. We do believe that when courage and generosity hold hands, all things are possible. Thank you again for being with us today, and I wish you a great and enjoyable evening! Yours in Rotary, Dr. Maki Wan President
President Elect 2018-19 | Miranda Kong Dear Fellow Rotarians, Distinguished Friends and Guests, During my 23 years in KGM Rotary family, I have deeply benefited from Rotarians’ Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do as the moral code for my personal and professional relationships: 1. Is it the TURTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Rotary Club gathers people from all over the world, all volunteers with the same mission to do our part to serve our community, focusing on the needs of the underprivileged people. KGM supports various long-term projects year after year as well as new projects every year such as providing free medical checkups for the elderly, visiting special needs school, caring for the homeless, etc. We also extend our hands to establish a community centre in Cambodia where we serve thousands of underprivileged local residents. Our Annual Charity Ball is our major fundraising event. I am thrilled and greatly honoured to chair the 32nd Annual Charity Ball. KGM being the largest Rotary Club in Hong Kong, is truly blessed by so many warm-hearted people. I would like to express my thanks to Mrs. Shroff M.H., our Title Sponsor for her continuous support of our club this years and our Gold Sponsors and Silver Sponsors for their generous support. Last but not least, let me acknowledge and thank our Ball Committee Members for their hard work preparing for this event. Thank you again for your meaningful support and being with us today, wish you a great fellowship and enjoyable evening! Yours in Rotary Miranda Kong President Elect & Fundraising Chair (2019-20)
District Governor 2018-19 | Y C Ho Dear President Maki and the KGMs, Congratulations for the 32nd Anniversary Ball of RC of KGM. RC of Kowloon Golden Mile has been, and is currently and definitely for sure will still be our biggest club by memberships and also by its diversity of nationalities among members. This is not easy at all if not because of our KGMs members have an inspirational example illustrating one of the beauties about Rotary, that is, to build up goodwill, better friendships and international understanding. At the current trend of getting smaller clubs in Rotary World, we particularly recognise the success of a big club in RC of KGM and its wellbeing with its big membership number. This year, Be the Inspiration. From KGM, there are many inspirational examples like the number, the magnitude of the overseas service projects, The One Humanitarian Project founded and successfully run by PDG David Harilela, and the heart touching Vocational Award night and many others. Thanks KGM! I hope our KGM will propagate its prestige characteristics of being a big club with diversity, harmonious with dedication towards bigger scale service projects, and the continual net gain in membership growth. Cheers to have become our Inspiration! Best in Rotary,
District Governor YC Ho Rotary Year 2018-19.

Sponsor the GIFT OF SIGHT for an eye surgery in India to restore them to sight, gifting them with a new life and reason for living. From 2011 to 2019, we have examined 5637 patients providing them with basic eye care and we have sponsored 1486 operations! Bhopal is the region in India where many years ago there was a Union Carbide gas leak – this left a lot of patients affected with a variety of problems – primarily their eye sight was affected. These poor people that we aim to help are either blind or almost blind and many are possible bread winners for their families. By restoring sight we are able to give them another chance in life to live and to contribute for their own and their community’s development.

Together with our Sister Club ‘RC of Paranaque, Philippines’, every year we sponsor surgeries for Cleft Lip Children. Our Clubs make sure that the money is spent correctly – we organize the hospital, the doctors and the proper follow up treatment for each patient. It costs HK$4,000 per child to extend a helping hand and remove their deformities by providing funds for the surgical operation of affected impoverished patients, including pre and post-operative medication and speech therapy. Please help us to be able to provide more.
