POWAY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FEATURED MEMBER OF THE MONTH
to implement in a new riding center.
What is the most interesting part of working with this organization?
The most interesting part of the business is to see when students first join and they might be nervous or timid around the horses, wanting to leave the ranch right away. To watching them grow and coming to their lessons each week, improving every time they come. And working towards getting on the horse, riding for the full 30 minutes and not wanting to leave the ranch. What opportunities does your organization have for businesses and the community to get involved, and what is your area of greatest need?
Tell us something most people don’t know about your organization?
We have been around since 2014 serving students in the community. Our students come from all over San Diego county as far as Coronado and South Bay! We have 12 horses in our program and 2 Off the Track Thoroughbreds.
What keeps you inspired?
The students! The 70 plus students we have coming to ride with us weekly are just amazing! They all are such hard workers and love coming to their weekly riding lessons. To see them accomplishing all their goals on the back of the horses is truly inspiring.
What is the purpose of your organization?
Ride Above Disability Therapeutic Riding Center (RAD) teaches children and adults with disabilities how to horseback ride as a form of therapy.
What demographic do you primarily serve?
We serve children and adults with disabilities.
What made you decide to work with this organization?
Katie Cram, myself, and Wayne Jackson started RAD in 2014. We decided to open RAD since we have been in the therapeutic riding industry for many years and had ideas we wanted
So many! We have a ton of options for volunteering either individually or as a team. Volunteers assist with horse care, ranch chores and helping the students ride. We rely heavily on volunteers and they are the backbone of our program. We also have a corporate donation program if any businesses would like to donate as well. The donations go directly to the horses and helping to keep our student lesson fees low.
Please share a recent success story of how you were able to connect with a Chamber member business to fill a need, a goal, help your constituents, etc.
We have just recently joined and have met so many amazing members. We have gotten many new volunteers, did a recent story with Chamber member Poway Living Magazine and are excited to continue getting our name out into the Poway and local communities.
Why did you get involved with the Poway Chamber of Commerce?
We had been so busy for the last 8 years working in the business we didn’t work on the business. We decided to join to have more of a community presence and learn from business leaders in the Poway Community.
What would you tell someone who is considering joining the Poway Chamber?
Definitely join! It is the best decision we could of made for our business and are so excited to get involved with all the wonderful business members and community.
