Happy hour expert serves up networking with a smile.

Jake Maines has put his marketing knowledge into action for the benefit of local businesses. Every month, he hosts a “Networking Happy Hour” at a di erent bar or restaurant in Virginia Beach. What started as a networking event for 40 of his friends has now become the largest monthly networking event in Hampton Roads.

“It has taken on a life of its own,” said Jake. “People were tired of zoom meetings at the end of pandemic, so I decided to invite friends out for happy hour.”

Jake recently celebrated the two-year anniversary of “Networking Happy Hour” at Fisher’s Neighborhood Kitchen.

“I couldn’t believe that 120 people showed up to our anniversary,” said Jake. “So many people have done business together from our events.”

One person who started with Jake and doesn’t miss the monthly event is Jordan Washnieski. A mechanic by trade, he is the owner of SolOrphanage, which specializes in fixing lost or broken solar equipment and helping forgotten about solar customers. Most of his customers purchased solar but lost their service plans when their solar company went out of business.

“If you need something that person is probably coming to Jake’s event,” says Jordan. “I recently met a guy who does account processing and another decal and marketing person.”

Another person who has consistently attended since May has been Ray Fadness, owner of Bridge Apparel Company, which specializes in custom apparel, screen printing, and promotional products. Ray is just 21 years old but has created a thriving business thanks in part to the Networking Happy Hour. About 20% of his business comes from the connections he makes at the event.

“I met a new marketing company that has sent me three leads already,” said Ray. “They were for a Mexican restaurant, construction company, and a junk removal company.”

“We are always looking for ways to help you set yourself apart from the crowd.” says Jake. “I take pride in being genuine and wanting to help people connect.”
