Acting Director’s Message
Rebecca Lowe, Acting Director
As we close out Fiscal Year 2024 and begin Fiscal Year 2025, we reflect on all we offer throughout the year using operational funding, grants, and donation funding. We continually review our programs and services, materials, technology, Digital Library and resources, outreach, marketing, and building improvements. We are committed to fulfilling the goals of the Strategic Plan, 2024–2028, and strive to find new, creative, innovative, and fiscally responsible ways to achieve these goals. Staff from all divisions and branches have the greater Prince William County community at the forefront of their mind when making decisions.
Just as you gave us feedback when creating our Strategic Plan, we want your feedback
again to help us determine areas of strength and areas for opportunity. Earlier this year, a committee of 12 staff members from various branches, divisions, and position levels created a new Prince William Public Libraries Annual Survey. I am very proud of their completed product and feel that your feedback on the survey will help us to continue to improve. I hope you will take the time to complete the survey from July 1–31 either in person or online. A paper survey will be available at all library locations and on the Mobile Library, and we will have a digital version available. Thank you in advance for your support and feedback during our busiest season of Summer Reading!
Adventure Begins at Your Library
Summer Reading 2024
This summer, “Adventure Begins at Your Library!” Explore distant lands, solve mysteries, or be the hero of your own story. Prince William Public Libraries’ Summer Reading program lasts from June 10–August 11 and has fun for all ages.
Beginning June 10, visit any of our libraries to pick up a Summer Reading Tracker bookmark or register online at pwcva.gov/library or on the Beanstack Tracker app. After you’ve read for 500 minutes–that’s only 20 minutes a day for 25 days–get a free book while supplies last and be entered into a prize drawing. New for 2024: adults will also get a book after completing the reading challenge.
Looking for even more fun at Prince William Public Libraries? Here are a few ideas to get you started:
• Check out a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot to get internet connection anywhere.
• Explore your state parks with an “I Love Virginia State Parks” backpack.
• Get your U.S. Passport for your international trip! Passport services are available at Central, Haymarket Gainesville, and Potomac Libraries on a first-come, first-served basis without an appointment.
• Listen to an audiobook on your car trip. Both hoopla Digital and Libby, by OverDrive offer thousands of titles.
• Get the inside scoop of all the stuff happening at PWPL – listen to our new podcast, “Important Library Stuff,” available on Apple
Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube Music.
• Try our makerspaces at Bull Run and Central Libraries. Our makerspaces have various machines, tools, and technology for you to explore, build, collaborate, and create for free.
Visit pwcva.gov/library to see the lineup of free programs and events at our libraries and virtually all summer long. Returning favorites include Beowulf T. Wonderbunny, Dinosaurs with Dinoman, and Sing Books with Emily, and try out Water Wonders and Escape with Pippa Park for something new!
