Call to WONDER

Look again. . . . At the person you think you know. At the story you think you understand. God, help us see with the eyes and heart of Christ. Look again. . . . At what assumptions have hidden. At what love might reveal. There is always more to see. Look again . . . . with wonder, ready to see that God is already here. May we have eyes to see.

Hymn

Be Thou My Vision

UMH #451

Prayer of Confession

The Lord be with you. And also with you. We look again at our own hearts, minds, and actions. We look with honesty. We look with compassion. And we speak our need for grace together. God of grace, you know us fully and call us by name. Yet we confess how quickly we decide that we know one another. We reduce people to labels, hold tightly to first impressions, and see what we expect to see. Forgive us when our assumptions keep us from recognizing your image in one another. Loosen our certainty. Enlarge our compassion. Teach us to look again with the mind and heart of Christ. silence for prayer

Words of Assurance

As Jesus looks and sees Zacchaeus, Jesus looks and sees us: people worthy of attention, relationship, and grace. We are fully known, deeply loved, and welcomed again into the transforming grace of God. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Alleluia! Amen.
