Hymn

God of Grace and God of Glory

UMH #577

Prayer of Confession The Lord be with you. And also with you. We join our hearts together as one to speak aloud our need for God and God’s grace: God of wisdom and courage, you reveal the life-giving way of Christ. Yet we confess how easily we are drawn toward strength without love, certainty without wisdom, and power without compassion. We accept destructive patterns as inevitable, overlook the ways we participate in them, and allow anger to become contempt or despair. Forgive our fear, expose what deceives us, and renew in us your courageous and hopeful Spirit. silence for prayer

Words of Assurance

God’s grace opens our eyes and breaks the hold of every power that diminishes life. God’s mercy frees us from fear, restores our courage, and leads us again in the way of Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Alleluia! Amen.

TO RESPOND IN FAITH

Reception of New Members The Lord's Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Offertory

PRAYER CONCERNS

Prayers for all giving and receiving hospice care. May strength, calm, compassion, and rest be available to them. Prayers for all who are victims of violence and abuse, and for those who come forward to name the perpetrators, to blow the whistle, and to shine a light on injustice. Prayers for those elected and reelected this week. May our leaders walk with humility and make sincere public service their priority while in office.
