A WORD FROM THE QUEENSLAND MINING MINISTER
The Queensland Government is supporting the mining industry, enabling the scale and capability of the sector to continue to grow.
WELCOME to this year’s Queensland Mining & Engineering Expo (QME), the largest regional event of its kind and a powerful showcase of Queensland’s capability across the full resources value chain.
Queensland has a history of excellence in mining equipment, technology and services (METS) capabilities, from digital solutions and safety to technology and mine site rehabilitation. The sector contributes over $3.812 billion to our economy, including $704.8 million in exports. It currently supports 32,000 local jobs. In turn, the resources sector contributes $43.8 billion to our economy and supports more than 81,000 jobs, including 49,600 in regional Queensland.
From the pit to the final product, this expo highlights the expertise, innovation and partnerships that continue to make Queensland’s METS and resources sectors some of the strongest in the world.
The Queensland Government’s focus is clear: support a strong resources sector through a stable and predictable operating environment, restore investor confidence, and create the conditions for projects to move forward with certainty. Through the Resources Cabinet Committee we are cutting red tape, streamlining approvals, and delivering faster decisions. That means projects can move forward with clarity, to deliver jobs in regional communities and return strong results for your shareholders.
The message to investors is simple: Queensland is open for business.
With that said, I do acknowledge that there are challenges and many parts of the sector have been doing it tough. Rising productions costs, higher fuel prices and severe weather events have placed pressure on operations across regional Queensland. In parts of the Bowen Basin, some coal mines have had water
sitting in pits for months, disrupting production schedules and creating flow-on impacts right through the supply chain – particularly for our METS sector, which depends on a strong and active resources industry.
Despite these challenges, there are clear signs confidence is returning. We are seeing renewed investment and interest right across Queensland’s resources sector, whether that is developments at Ensham, transactions such as Anglo American’s asset sale and investment from the Argo consortium, progress in our critical minerals sector and the development of Harmony’s Eva Copper project. These decisions send an important signal to the market that global investors continue to back Queensland resources and continue to see long-term value inour regions.

regional communities, that means continued opportunity, continued investment and continued confidence in the future.
At the same time, the Queensland Government is focused on ensuring the sector has the stability, certainty and integrity it needs moving forward. That includes progressing the appointment of the Mining and Resources Coroner, alongside broader reforms at Resources Safety and Health Queensland, aimed at strengthening confidence in the regulatory framework while maintaining a strong focus on worker safety.
This renewed confidence is already being recognised. Queensland has climbed to 13th on the Fraser Institute’s Investment Attractiveness Index, up from 39th in 2024, reflecting a significant li in global investor sentiment. Nowhere is that more evident than in the Bowen Basin and the regional communities that have long underpinned Queensland’s coal industry.
Queensland coal continues to play a critical role in the state’s economy, and recent developments across the sector point to ongoing global demand for high-
The Queensland Government is also looking to the future with a focus on restoring sovereign capability. That means Queenslanders mining, refining, processing and producing here on shore.
Through our Queensland Fuel Security Plan, we are progressing oil production from the Taroom Trough, unlocking more refinery capability and boosting fuel storage.
We are also backing the critical minerals industry with investment in new infrastructure, including the CopperString transmission line, the Queensland Resources Common User Facility in Townsville and FlexiLab at the Resources Centre of Excellence right here in Mackay.
I encourage you to make the most of this year’s expo and connect with the exhibitors and innovators on show, including the Queensland Government. Together, we can continue building a resources sector that delivers investment, jobs and opportunity for communities across our state.

BUILT FOR MINING’S TOUGHEST JOBS
A proven fleet solution meets Ford’s new Super Duty platform.
FOR Norweld, building better fleet products starts with listening to the people using them. Across mining, civil, trade and commercial worksites, customers need vehicle set-ups that are tough, practical and backed by national support.
That thinking is behind the new Ford Ranger Super Duty with Norweld’s ROPS Tray, on display at QME 2026. The build brings Norweld’s proven site-ready fleet solution to Ford’s latest heavy-duty platform.
While the Ford Ranger Super Duty is new, Norweld’s ROPS Tray is not. The product has long been part of Norweld’s fleet o ering across platforms including the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and LandCruiser 79 Series. The Super Duty is the latest platform for this trusted tray system, with dedicated research and development undertaken to suit Ford’s new heavy-duty ute.
That work has carried through to the details of the Super Duty ROPS Tray. The system integrates a roll over protection system (ROPS) certified to VSB14 and NCOP requirements, featuring a fixed placard with unique identification number confirming adherence. The unit is constructed as a full bolt-on system requiring no modifications to vehicle structure to suit the vehicle’s body builder guide. For fleet operators, a tray must meet site requirements while supporting a repeatable fleet-wide fit-out.
Other key features include mine-spec accessory mounting provisions, twin spare tyremounts integrated into the headboard, deck tie-down points, dust- and waterresistant under-tray storage and an undertray water tank. Strategic hole sizing and placement in the headboard also supports rearward visibility and protection, while removable infill panels make fit-outs and electrical work easier without compromising structural integrity.

Built from high-grade aluminium, the tray delivers durability while keeping weight to a minimum. Its corrosion-resistant construction can handle harsh mining conditions, while the 5mm high-tensile single-piece plate floor provides strength where it matters.
Unlike other mine-spec units, the ROPS Tray combines functionality and industrial-grade strength with a contemporary look that stands out on site, reflecting the premium finish Norweld is known for.
That focus on real-world use is something the team hears from customers every day.
Quasar Electrical knows what it means to work in harsh mining conditions. For owner and director Callan Sheldon, durability and the ability to transfer the set-up between vehicles have made a real di erence.
“When a vehicle reaches 150,000 to 180,000km, we transfer the Norweld fleet canopy to a new vehicle, ready to do another 150,000km. Some are now on their third HiLux and as strong as when we first bought them,” Sheldon said.
Diesel & Dirt Contracting is another putting Norweld set-ups to work. What started as 12 builds has grown past 35 Norweld-equipped vehicles working in tough conditions.
“Everyone loves operating out of the Norweld set-ups,” Diesel & Dirt Contracting operations
manager Al Kristensen said. “They’re nice and compact with plenty of space for tools. Structurally, they’re second to none.”
For Norweld, that kind of feedback is important. It reinforces the need for fleet set-ups that are tough and practical. Whether it’s storage, ergonomic access, fit-out options, wiring packages or long-term durability, every detail needs to support how the vehicle is used on site.
For busy operations, downtime matters; a vehicle o the road reduces productivity and disrupts fleet schedules.
That’s why local service and national support are such an important part of Norweld’s o ering. If damage occurs, individual parts can be replaced quickly to minimise downtime.
Backed by more than 50 years of Australian manufacturing experience, Ford Pro Converter certification for mining and essential services, a Lifetime Warranty on workmanship and a national branch network, Norweld gives customers confidence their investment will go the distance.
Visitors to QME 2026 can see the Ford Ranger Super Duty ROPS build at stand OS856 and speak with the team about fleet tray and canopy options.
