Three plenary topics will vividly embody the overarching theme of ‘Mobility Driven by ITS’: Safe, Trustworthy and Resilient Mobility Ecosystems in Changing Times; Beyond the Road - Interconnecting All Transport Modes; and Accelerating Mobility Transition Towards Smarter and More Sustainable Cities
Strategic Future Sessions (SFS) is a new feature that will focus on future directions in ITS technologies and policies. The intent is blue sky thinking so these highly interactive discussion sessions look forward and review options, problems, technical barriers, rather than reporting on work that has been completed. Highlights include discussions on AI for traffic congestion, creating a global ITS network, and integrating shared mobility solutions.
Special Interest Sessions (SIS) will mostly discuss work that is underway or recently completed regionally, nationally or internationally, featuring aspects including achievements, problems, trends, technology developments, policies.
Clean Mobility Sessions: On Tuesday, a number of sessions will address cybersecurity for connected vehicles, standards for multimodal travel, and innovative ideas for reducing transportation's environmental impact.
Urban Mobility Focus: Wednesday will feature sessions on the role of drones in urban mobility, crowd-sourced vehicle data for safety, and the global state of mobility data exchange. Key papers will discuss multimodal transport systems and passenger flow patterns in urban rail systems.
Advancing Automated Mobility with Safety in Mind: The focus shifts to Automated Mobility on Thursday, looking at sessions with a strong safety theme from different perspectives such as systems’ intelligence, role of enhanced maps, behavioural changes or freight operations.

Dubai, a beacon of futuristic development and entrepreneurial spirit, offers the perfect backdrop for the 30th ITS World Congress. Take a case in point: within just two years, the RTA plans to roll out a flying taxi service. For this it has partnered with Austrian company FlyNow, which will take off with cargo services before adding passengers to its list. The eVTOL, an electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, will have a cruise speed of 130km/h. These projects are still in the early stages of development, but they have the potential to revolutionise transportation in Dubai and around the world.

▶10:00 - 12:00: Metro Depot in Rashidiya Tour the Metro Depot at Rashidiya, home to 64 trains and the control centre for the Red and Green Lines. This centre manages rail traffic, communication systems, electrical supply, and safety systems, including firefighting and tunnel ventilation. Learn about the centre's role in maintaining communication channels with rail commuters during emergencies.
▶14:00 - 16:00: Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (DEWA Innovation Center)

The complexities of modern urban life have put unprecedented strain on transportation infrastructure. Traffic congestion, accidents, and inefficient resource allocation are persistent challenges. However, as Frans Keijzer, Bid Manager EMEA and APAC at TomTom Enterprise explains, a powerful tool has emerged to reshape the way we manage our roads: big data
In today’s bustling cities, ensuring the smooth flow of traffic is crucial for maintaining efficient business operations and a high quality of life for residents. To achieve this, road authorities and cities are increasingly turning to data to optimise traffic management. By combining static and dynamic data, they can make data-driven decisions that keep traffic flowing in the right direction while making roads safer for all.
The data can be combined in various ways. One is by fusing static and real-time data to output datasets. Combining and calculating the observed speeds of individual vehicles or GPS probes enables the determination of a harmonic average speed across each road segment of the city. Fusing also includes conducting quality checks, like validating road closures based on GPS data. Road segments that are reported as closed but still contain large volumes of GPS data are adjusted or removed.
A recent real-life example that demonstrates this well is how road authorities effectively managed the complex traffic situation on the 1,300 km roads around Paris during this year’s Olympics. With millions of visitors expected, efficient traffic management was indispensable.
The Direction des Routes d’Île-de-France (DiRIF), the highway authority for the Paris metropolitan area, used big data to better manage traffic. By utilising static data from DiRIF’s own roadside sensors and TomTom’s real-time Floating Car Data, our partner, PTV Group, created algorithms that generated highly accurate, real-time information about Paris’ traffic. This solution played a crucial role in informing road users about current traffic conditions, congestion, and road closures, contributing significantly to the success of the Games.
Cities and road authorities gather data from various data suppliers to improve traffic management, road safety, and infrastructure planning. These sources can include historical and real-time traffic data from companies like TomTom but can also include data from static cameras and traffic counting stations. empowering them to make smarter, more informed decisions, ultimately leading to safer and more efficient road networks.
However, this data can also be utilised in real time to allow for dynamic control of traffic signals, to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow during peak hours or in response to incidents. Additionally, using historical GPS data can help identify areas that need infrastructure improvements, ensuring that such investments make the biggest impact.
Traffic data is big data. Traffic data provides immense volumes of information that can be processed to derive meaningful insights. TomTom processes billions of GPS data points every minute. This massive dataset can be leveraged for training artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning models to recognise patterns and relationships in the data. For example, based on years of historic data, a model might learn that traffic congestion typically increases on certain roads during rush hours or in bad weather. By doing so, predictive analytics can forecast potential accident hotspots and enable preventive measures to be implemented to dynamically improve road safety.
Also, imagine a large city with a sophisticated traffic management system that leverages AI and machine learning. During morning rush hour, the system predicts heavy traffic on main roads leading to the city centre. The system adjusts traffic signals to prioritise these routes and suggests alternative routes to drivers automatically. Real-time data from GPS probes and sensors can instantly detect accidents, predicting severe congestion and rerouting traffic through alternative routes while alerting emergency services.

Intertraff to showcase latest D-cop Mobile speed camera
RAK Police in the UAE has become the first police force to acquire the latest version of Intertraff’s new D-cop Mobile dual version, an advanced portable speed camera capable of monitoring multiple lanes of traffic simultaneously.
Visitors to the company’s stand will see that the latest D-cop Mobile is one of the smallest and lightest in the industry, measuring just 25 x 27 x 12 cm and weighing only 5 kg.
Remarkably, the battery and all other components are housed within the same unit. Additionally, the entire system, including the photographic tripod, fits into a single carrying case, making it easy to transport
and deploy. The integrated battery offers over 15 hours of operation. The latest version of the D-cop Mobile can classify vehicles and enforce two speed limits (for cars and trucks) that can be set per lane. It is also equipped to enforce the new low-speed limits introduced in the UAE in April 2023, as well as violations such as tailgating, improper lane use, and hard shoulder offences.
The D-cop Mobile is robust and reliable, with IP65 TÜV SÜD certification and has successfully passed climatic, EMC, and solar radiation tests.
The system reads vehicle licence plates and operates wirelessly, enabling easy configuration via a laptop or iPad, and wireless communication between the camera and flash.
