to Issue 531 of your Deals on Wheels Magazine
Hard to believe that by the time you're reading this copy of the magazine, June will just a week away.
For truck show goers, particularly in Victoria, that means the King's Birthday long weekend is close and the Alexandra Truck Show on June 7 in the main street of the picturesque country town as well.
Alexandra's event is popular with the truckies out there given the trucks are parked up on bitumen rather than dirt, so whether it rains, or shines, the trucks stay polished for performance.
This aspect of the show is mirrored at Casino in New South Wales which will host its annual truck show on July 31 and August 1 this year.
United States by regular contributor Warren Aitken for the Road to Wishes Truck Show which resulted in a touching story and some amazing photos of the American truck scene (see page 70).
We have classic trucks on show at Wimmera, all the fun from The Rock Truck Show, the 2026 Annual Tassie Truck Run and the Colac Truck Show too, along with a calendar of upcoming events to check out.
Another highlight is Tiane Gavillucci's interview with master signwriter Heath Saunders whose magic brushes have bringing transport operator dreams to life from his home base in Boort for many years.

Deals on Wheels is proud to be one of the media partners for this year's Casino Truck Show, along with our sister publication Owner Driver, our music o ering in Australian Truck Radio and the online marketplace that is tradetrucks.com.au.
As a publication we have been on board with the Casino Truck Show team for a number of years and watched as the show has continued to grow to the point where last year it attracted more than 40,000 visitors to the region over the two days it was on - and showcased in excess of 550 trucks from around Australia. We're excited to see what the team comes up with for 2026.
In this month's edition we have looked around Australia and abroad for truck show stories to share, including a trip to the
Whether its intricate scrolls or classic style signwritten company names Heath has the skills and the experience to take an idea and make it real.
Heath's also a lover of all things trucking and has taken on the role of show organiser for the Boort Truck Show as well.
Check out the story from page 12, along with a selection of amazing photos showcasing his work.
On another note, I hope everyone enjoyed Issue 530 of Deals on Wheels and the addition of Earthmovers & Excavators.
Whether its an excavator, a truck, a forkli , or the parts to help keep your assets on the road, this month's 264 page magazine has got you covered. I hope you enjoy the read. Enjoy the read.

The year, 2026, is expected to go down in Hino sales history as the strongest yet for its heavy-duty 700 Series truck.
Launched back in 2021, then hit with supply challenges driven partly by COVID, the 700 Series has had a broken introduction to the Australian truck market.
Fast forward to now though and the Hino team are well and truly making up for lost time, with a recent media drive highlighting just how exible these trucks are for a range of applications in the transport world.
Livestock hauler, tick, pallet pusher, tick, tipper, tick, tipper and dog trailer, another tick, container transport – yep.
Hino Australia president and CEO Richard Emery says strong orders leading into the start of this year have set high expectations for sales results this year.
“Increased customer enquiry and a healthy order bank leading into the start of the year has supported our decision to further increase production for 700 Series for 2026 – we are con dent this year will be our strongest year ever for 700 Series sales.
“Our order bank continues to grow on the back of our expanded range, and our order intake has tripled over the last six months, which is a strong start,” Emery says.
“Having met Euro 6 emissions at its launch in 2021, the Hino 700 Series has built a reputation of a versatile heavy-duty truck that delivers proven reliability, advanced safety, superior technology and operational e ciency.
“Providing additional driveline and axle con guration options enables 700 Series customers to seek greater operational e ciency and further productivity improvements.
“With additional supply available from Hino Motors, Ltd. in Japan, we expect to see a record year with increased interest across key applications such as general freight, refrigeration, construction, waste, tra c management and civil works.”
A recent testing journey from Sydney to Canberra via the South Coast of New South Wales, including a steep descent down Mt Ousley and a climb up The Clyde from Batemans Bay, showcased the driveability and power of the latest range of trucks.
The new Hino M112 12-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), tied to the 9 litre or 13 litre engines, made easy work of both challenges, with the ability for drivers to adjust from automatic to manual to suit their preferred driving styles proving popular.
“The new 360hp with 12-speed AMT drivelines are well suited to the stop-start demands of metropolitan general freight and vocational applications – they are also ideal for heavy rigid customers driving in regional areas, or those requiring more towing capability than the existing 320hp automatic models can deliver,” Hino Australia Product Strategy department manager Daniel Petrovski says.
“All of the new driveline combinations with the 12-speed AMT feature a 3.9:1 nal drive ratio, meaning the new models sit at about 1,600rpm while cruising at 100km/h in top gear.
“The ability to select 11th gear at 100km/h and ascend inclines at full power makes the new models particularly well suited to customers seeking a fuel-e cient highway operational vehicle that also delivers the performance required for Australia’s regional highways.
“It’s an ideal truck for councils and civil works operators that require the exibility to operate as a rigid tipper and to also tow a pig or dog trailer. The Hino 700 Series range is expansive with 31 models that appeal to almost any operation.”
From January 1, 2026, all Hino 700 Series trucks are covered by a ve year or 600,000 kilometre standard warranty (whichever comes rst)..

From sketching trucks as a kid to mastering hand-painted signage, Heath Saunders has built a respected signwriting and graphics business
Words: Tiane Gavillucci
Images: Heath Saunders
Look at this beautifully scrolled Kenworth
Long before Saunders Signs & Graphics, there was a kid who enjoyed sketching trucks and machinery, in awe of the big rigs he watched his old man and grandfather own in their business.
Trucks that ranged from old Louisville’s, Atkinsons and a Bicentennial T650 Kenworth
(Heath’s personal favourite).
“I was in awe of this Kenworth,” business owner Heath Saunders says. “I actually watched it getting sign written in Footscray.”
The hook was set in early, and by 1996, Heath was all in.
Heath enrolled in a pre-apprenticeship course at the Western Metropolitan TAFE in Sunshine Melbourne, then work experience stints in Bendigo only cemented something he already knew – this was the career path he wanted to take.
Apprenticeships followed in Mildura, rst with Stop Signs, then LeGassick Signs, meaning packing up his ute and heading north for six years to sharpen his skill set.
“A er a stint away from the industry I moved back to my hometown of Boort,
Victoria and in 2003, I o cially opened Saunders Signs & Graphics part time while working for my father driving mobile cranes,” Heath says.
“This suited me as it was the best of both worlds, heavy machinery and signwriting as well.”
But it didn’t take long before the scales tipped, and the brushes won.
“Sometime a er that I le the crane industry and concentrated full time on Saunders Signs,” he says.
These days, trucks make up more than 95 per cent of his work.
“This is something I’ve pushed towards as the trucking industry and the trucks themselves are something I really enjoy being a part of,” he says.
“The people, the culture and the mateship is all worth it to me.”
Heath understands that no two trucks are the same, just like each client. Some like elaborate, bold designs, some enjoy a more subtle approach.
“Truck signage is a great industry to

be a part of, its historical roots go right back to the horse drawn cart days where ornate pinstriping and scroll work was commonplace,” he says.
“I have a great passion for this industry. One of the best parts is getting to work out which style a client is a er and then nailing it. The style is o en an extension of their personality.”
And with di erent trucks, comes its own set of challenges.
“I like to sit back and take in the whole look of a truck before I even start to work out my plan of attack,” he says.
“A one size ts all approach certainly doesn't work and you need to work out what would look best on each and every truck.”
Body lines, colours of the truck, stripes and even the age of the vehicle all come into play.
“You can’t go adding modern style signage to a vintage style truck – that’s just one example of how you can ruin a job,” he says.
“These trucks are someone's pride and joy and deserve respect. Whether it’s a big dollar new truck or someone's old farm truck; they all get treated with the utmost care.”
Most of his work nowadays comes from new truck builds, booked directly by clients or salesmen, fuelled by word of mouth, social
media and a reputation that’s hard-earned.
Through speaking with the customer and learning what design path they want to go down, Heath then gets designing.
“From there the fun begins and it’s time to sign write, pinstripe and scroll it,” he says.
“Each truck takes on its own personality once the pinstripes start getting layered on. All my pinstriping and scroll work is done by hand using the best quality two pack paints and using no mask. It makes all the di erence and gives the job some character.”
Names and door signage can vary, and while Heath prefers to paint all his work, sometimes the need arises to use vinyl hand painted signage, and he says the imperfections give it a life of its own.
He also incorporates a lot of airbrush work into his designs, something not many businesses o er, but it creates amazing dimension into the art to make it look like it’s hovering.
And from there, it’s then back to the dealer.
Signwriting has been around for a long while, so how does this age of technology impact Heath’s work?
“The tech game hasn't really changed much for me in a long time as I like to keep it old

You can’t go wrong with this stunner
The dimensions really make the writing stand out

school and simple,” he says.
“A computer plays a small part of my business compared to my brushes and copious amounts of paint. I draw a lot of layouts and designs on paper, something which is rare in this digital age.”
Over the years, Heath’s style has evolved, guided by the workers that came before him.
2003 was the year
Heath o icially opened
Saunders Signs & Graphics
“We have had some very talented signees in this country, and to not be inspired by them is foolish,” he says.
“There is a certain formula to getting this art to look right, it’s been the same for years and always looks great. If it ain’t broke don’t x it.”
“With that I like to put my own stamp on them. A truck scroll is a personal thing; every worker’s is di erent. You can be recognised by the style you use.”
Social media has also been a solid pillar of inspiration for Heath, opening up a world of diverse designs and art.
“A new idea can be found anywhere, not just on trucks,” he says. “You can see a colour combination on a pack of cereal and think, ‘that works. I’ll use that one day’”.
The hardest part about running Saunders Signs & Graphics is facing the same struggles every small business worker has; juggling
family time with the pressures of keeping on top of all the work.
“My sign shop is in my back yard so I’m constantly looking at all the trucks and am guilty of spending too much time out there,” he says.
“Another challenge is keeping everyone happy. The jobs are getting more involved and taking longer to do and I refuse to take shortcuts,” he says.
“I’m not interested in turning over mass amounts of jobs, I work on a quality over quantity. The truck won’t leave here until I’m 150 per cent satis ed with the outcome.”
More o en than not, a lot of components are removed also like air cleaners and exhaust shrouds to get the paint where it needs to go.
Heath says it’s the little things that elevate a job.
“It’s a big dollar outlay, the clients expect it done right.”
Heath’s work regularly takes out top honours at truck shows across the country, claiming titles like Rig of the Show and Best Signage.
“I've been lucky to enjoy a lot of success with my cra , like truck show wins and being featured in various publications,” he says.

“I’m a truck show lover, I even organise and run the Boort Truck Show and am regularly asked to help judge other trucks around the country.”
A recent highlight was having two trucks featured at the Brisbane Truck Show National Championship, a moment that sits high on a growing list of achievements.
So, you best believe it’s not uncommon to see a lineup of trucks waiting their turn outside his workshop.
Yet, despite the accolades, there’s no sense of slowing down.
Looking ahead, the pipeline is full. New builds, and insanely detailed restored ones, with bigger, bolder projects waiting to roll through the doors.
But the mission remains the same as when he rst picked up a pencil.
“I will endeavour to hone my style, keep the cra alive and help more people make a mile in style,” he laughs.

As a kid, Heath enjoyed sketching trucks and machinery, that's how his passion began

The shine on the alloy bullbar, tanks and rear guards is a strong pointer towards the care that has been part of this truck’s life, and a look at the interior photos indicates the same attention to detail has been applied there too.
The truck is tted with a Euro 5 Cummins engine and the 18-speed RoadRanger transmission too.

Stephen Sharp instantly fell in love with an old 1977 Acco stuck at the back of the paddock, and transformed it into a head turner
Words: Tiane Gavillucci
Images: Stephen Sharp
In just a few months, Stephen turned the fate of this old truck around
When Stephen Sharp’s mechanic let him know that his uncle’s old 1977 International Acco 8030B was up for sale, he just had to have a look.
“It was just stuck at the back of the paddock,” Stephen says. “And when I went there, I instantly fell in love with it, you could say it was love at rst sight.”
It belonged to Brian Murphy, an elderly man in his 80s to 90s, who watched on and waved goodbye, with tears in his eyes as Stephen drove away with the truck that was like an old friend.
“The truck’s got a full set up of hydraulics,” Stephen says. “Brian used to cart hay, fuel, water, whatever he could put on the back of it.”
“He’s a lovely old fella.”
The Acco wasn’t looking too good when Stephen rst laid eyes on it. The paint job was faded, and it needed some work.
“It was in very poor condition,” he says. “It wasn't good until I got my hands on it.”
“From Arthur's Creek back to Croydon was a rough ride, but it was a good one.”
Since Stephen purchased the old rig on Christmas Eve last year, he had been working on it every weekend to get it looking the way it does now, all nice and spruced up.
“I put a new toolbox on, inserted an old school fan in there and put my name on it too,” he says.
“These trucks never come with radios, so I got a new CB in there, I’ve had the motor looked at, got new stacks on and lights.

How Stephen found the old banger – it was certainly in dire need of at paint job!

“There was 50 years of crud at the bottom of the truck, so I cleaned all that out, got the chassis line clean, then I repainted the truck and did all the scrollwork myself.”
Stephen has the words ‘such is life’ printed on his windscreen, words that he’s got pressed on a t-shirt and stubby holders too, with his name and truck featured in the back of both designs.
And for Stephen, this isn’t just another project.
“I hate to see these old things just rust away,” he says.
“Anyone can jump into a brand new Kenworth and think they’re king of the road, but until they get into an old banger, no air con, no heater, no radio, no CB, it’s a
“It’s about looking a er the pioneers and keeping these old trucks as original as possible.”
Stephen completed the paint job and signwriting himself completely di erent story.
Like many stories of truckies told before, Stephen’s old man got him into big rigs. As an old meat lumper, he owned pretty much the same truck as Stephen does now.
“Back when I was a little kid, dad would haul pigs and cattle. When he would bring the truck home, I used to get in the truck and wash all the blood out. I loved it,” Stephen says.
Now nearly 50, Stephen still carries the same passion for trucks – and his dad, though now in a wheelchair, is still right there with him, sharing in the journey and the love for old trucks.

A Facebook scroll leads a young truck lover to an old Atkinson 3800, reviving an old-school Detroit power passion
Words: Tiane Gavillucci
Images: Ryley Richards
This rig is a weekend cruiser
It was an unexpected discovery for Ryley Richards who was having a leisurely scroll on Facebook – as most do – until an old 1978 Atkinson 3800 popped up on his feed.
“I was just scrolling through Facebook when I found it, so I had a conversation with dad to go down and have a look. The truck had been up for sale for six months,” Ryley says.
“So, then I purchased it in December last year from Ernie who lived down in Arthur River.”
Ernie had started his own company in farm machinery and transport, he had owned the Atkinson from 2001, but for the most part, the truck had spent a reasonable amount of time in the shed.
“It hauled farm machinery and general freight,” Ryley says. “It’s got an Australian cattle Association sticker on the back, which I believe the truck may have been involved with that when it was brand new.”
As a 21-year-old, Ryley loves his old bangers. He’s got a couple of old Kenworths – the rst one he bought at the ripe age of 15.
“I’ve always loved my two stroke Detroit’s, and this Atkinson has an 8V92 in it,” he says.
“The truck’s in an unrestored condition, but it's pretty tidy.”
As a young man, Ryley admires the workings of an old vehicle. Ever since he was a child it’s been his passion.
“I think my parent’s earliest memory of me

Originally, this truck was doing farm machinery hauling work
Ryley got the truck ready for the Mack

liking trucks is when I could rst speak and I'd stand out the window screaming out to the trucks,” he laughs.
“I le school in Year 9, and I went into earth moving trucks with dad, but since Year 6, I've been working on trucks down at Just Louisville in Perth, rebuilding old Ford Louisville's and Sterling trucks.
“I got an apprenticeship working on machines, and I slowly migrated up to trucks. As soon as I turned 19, that's when I got my HR, and then my MC as soon as I could, now I do heavy haulage as well as being the company’s seasonal mechanic.”
So, Ryley is a well-rounded kind of guy when it comes to trucks, and lucky for that, as he plans on doing a bit of work to the Atkinson.
To get it ready for the Mack Muster, Ryley already did an engine rebuild, along with xing up the radio, but there’s still more general tidying that needs to be done.
“We plan on painting the chassis and inserting all new rims and tires,” he says.
“Getting everything ready for the Muster was a big push to get it out there.”

As Ryley describes it, the rig is a “weekend cruiser”, something that can be taken out and showed o at truck shows to display a little bit of “old school cool”.

Sammut Agricultural Machinery delivers custom-built tippers and trucks, combining durability, performance, and Australia-wide reliability
Specialising in the sale of quality new and used trucks while providing a wide range of modi cation options and packages to suit the needs of customers all over Australia, is what Sammut Agricultural Machinery do best.
Tipper bodies come complete with a two-way gate, electric tarp system, LED lights and a heavy duty construction
The Acco Beavertail is available in 6x4 and 8x4 options and features chequer plate floors, multiple tiedown points in the deck, an under-body toolbox, and LED rear lights. Sammut’s Acco beavertail builds provide a reliable and cost-e ective solution for your business
In recent years, some of their most popular builds have been the Kenworth T610 tippers, and Acco beavertails.
“Our tipper truck builds can be found all over Australia being used in a wide range of industries,” Sammut Agricultural Machinery salesman Nathan Sammut says.
“One of our most popular setups is our second-hand Kenworth T610 tipper builds.

These trucks start o as a prime mover, we then extend the chassis and build the subframe in our fabrication shop. Once this is complete, the truck goes through a mechanical inspection and the hydraulics are tted.
“All of this happens while the body is being built, sandblasted and painted, ready to be tted to the truck.”
Sammut Agricultural Machinery’s tipper bodies come complete with a two-way gate, electric tarp system, LED lights and a heavy duty construction. Their bodies are made completely out

of Hardox 450 steel, a material chosen speci cally for its durability and resistance to abrasion and impact, especially in an industry where wear and tear is inevitable.
“We typically sell these trucks with a fresh Cummins rebuild with Australia-wide warranty, which gives our customers peace of mind in purchasing a second-hand truck,” Nathan says.
“To look the part, we t a new twin stack kit and stainless drop visor to each build.
“We currently stock many T610 prime movers which are ready to be built to suit the needs of your business.”
Sammut’s Acco beavertail builds provide a reliable and cost-e ective solution to getting your business on the road. Available in 6x4 and 8x4 options, the second-hand Accos start o as a cab-chassis, then they build the beavertail

body to suit, sandblast it, then paint it.
“This whole process happens in-house,” Nathan says. “The body is then tted and hydraulics are plumbed up, and then the build is complete.”
The beavertail body features chequer plate oors, multiple tie-down points in the deck, an under-body toolbox, and LED rear lights.
Sammut can also custom build to suit any customers requirements, including features like ramp height, paint colour and more.

trucks
Words & Images: Lincoln Bertelli
The 1969 Dodge 760’s trailer was originally owned by Australia Post
While much of the machinery on display at Wimmera was the latest and greatest, the event also had a reminder of the past.
Following ‘the year of big tractors’ showcase at the 2025 event, there was a ‘fantastic farm trucks’ theme this year with plenty of classic trucks on display.
Some of these date back 90 years and each have plenty of stories from their varied lives, many of which were agricultural workhorses.
Information displayed with each truck gave Wimmera visitors the chance to learn more about the unique roles these vehicles played in shaping Australian agriculture.
1969 Dodge 760
Multiple agricultural sectors have bene tted from this 1969 Dodge 760, which began life carting fruit and vegetables from Swan Hill to the Melbourne markets. Its trailer was originally owned by Australia
Post, where it was used for parcel freight, before being sold in 1980 and set up with grain bins.
It made many trips to Portland, along with shorter local trips, to cart grain and was also involved in a rail versus road freight protest in the mid-1980s.
The truck’s engine was rebuilt in the late 1980s or early 1990s and it features a 5-speed transmission and 2-speed di , along with a 185hp engine.
The 14-foot (4.3m) tipping tray features a grain bin and roll top tarp.
A er having ve owners in its rst 12 years, Tom Blair has owned this Kenworth for the last 45 years.
Named Sally Anne a er the previous owner’s two daughters, it is now used occasionally for farm work by Blairfarms

which is located in Kalkee, close to the Wimmera site.
When built, this S-925 model had a twostroke engine producing between 270-300hp and also featured a 12-speed Spicer gearbox and a quick release turntable.
It has since had the gearbox replaced with a 10-speed Roadranger, along with changing the suspension and adding the Hamelex trailer on a xed turntable to suit farming conditions.
The gravel trailer was bought around the same time, which came with extension gates and tarps, but a series of changes culminated in it now having a roll tarp.
Having gone to great lengths to buy this 1959 Ford F600 when it was new, it has remained family-owned since.
Purchased by brothers James, Peter and Keith Sudholz, trucks were di cult to come by in the late 1950s and the brothers went to the newsagent’s every morning to be the rst to ring up about any trucks available for sale. Acquiring it from Melbourne, it was a semi when they bought it and they had its body lengthened along with a tipper tted and bulk bin made.
One of the brothers, Peter, eventually took the 139hp truck over before handing it to Kane Sudholz of Natimuk.

Despite being relatively new compared to some of the classic trucks featured, this 1989 Mack Value Liner has still lived a varied and adventurous life.
Originally purchased by a Stawell-based refrigerated transport company, it was sold in the mid-1990s and put into commercial operation carting bulk commodities.
From there, it was taken o the road and fully refurbished with the painting and interior work done in Horsham.
This unit – which has a 400hp six-cylinder engine – then went back on the road and worked for several years, before being taken o road again and reassigned to farm duties near Warracknabeal.
Few adjustments have been made to this 42-year-old truck, which its owners believe would have close to the lowest kilometres on a ‘Louie’ in Australia.
Originally purchased by a pastoral company, it was sold four years later with 40,000km on the odometer – but fast forward to the present day and that odometer reading is still below 250,000km.
The truck retains its original 300hp Cummins engine and one of the only substantial changes made was adjusting the di ratios to bring the RPM down to 2,000 at 100km/h.
The 1969 Kenworth S-Series is still occasionally used for farm work
This 1959 Ford F600 has remained familyowned since being bought new
Multiple sectors have featured in the 1989 Mack Value Liner’s life
Less than 250,000km have been done on this 1984 Ford Louisville LNT 9000

Otherwise, owners say the truck is “basically original” and it also includes an Eaton Road ranger 9-speed gearbox.
Another truck on display at Wimmera which has had multiple uses was the 1977 Bedford ELR3.
Grain carting was among the 1977 Bedford ELR3’s work
The 1961 Austin S503 spent life doing plenty of farm work
The 1936 REO Speed Wagon was the oldest truck showcased
Powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine producing 130hp, this particular Bedford was purchased from a Nhill dealership in 1980.
It was initially used for carting spare parts by GMH Holden, before being converted to a grain carting truck.
This 3.5 tonne unit was also able to tow a single axle trailer.
This British-built 1961 Austin S503 has a 5,080kg payload and a 90hp six-cylinder K-series petrol engine.
Bought in 1977 by its current owners, it joined another 1956 Green Loadstar Austin mainly carting from Murra Warra to Dimboola.
It also carted bulk grain silos during its working life, along with bagged fertiliser and grain to the combine, plus gravel for roads and sheep to markets.
The metal sides were “gut busting” heavy and in pieces, and this particular truck was
eventually superseded in the mid-1980s as the farm required larger payloads due to the owners moving to larger combines.
As the oldest truck showcased during the Wimmera display, it is little surprise the 1936 REO Speed Wagon has plenty of stories to tell.
Bought new by cartage contractors and fuel agents in Lalbert, it was used to cart drums of fuel from depots in Kerang and Swan Hill to be delivered by farms in the area.
It was also used to pick up wool from farms and carted to a rail depot, while the truck’s owners also used it to transport bags of fertiliser from their depot.
A wood and tin gravity bulk bin was tted in the early-1940s, along with a bag loader, and it continued to cart grain and tow machinery to farms until the mid-1950s.
Owners say it was considered the best truck in the area for many years, and its last o cial outing came in 1983 when it was driven in a ‘back to Lalbert centenary celebrations’ parade.
Another classic on display was the 1950 Ford F-Series, with this truck only produced about two years a er the F-Series was introduced to Australia.

Originally tted with a xed tray and tted sides, it was used by the Shell depot in Pimpinio to deliver kerosene petrol and diesel in 44-gallon drums to farms, along with oil and grease, once fuel deregulation ended a er World War II.
It was sold in 1957 when the depot was sold, and in its new life it had a steel gravity bin tted to help cart grain to the local silo or further a eld.
A hydraulic bag loader was tted to help load grain bags, while other uses included carting rewood.
In 2021, this truck was restored as a surprise gi for the owner’s 80th birthday.
There is an element of mystery to the 1943 Austin on display at Wimmera, with only limited information available.
It has a 3,462cc overhead-value petrol engine that produces 60hp, while the original buying cost was 3,000 pounds.
It is a K2/Y model, which was only manufactured in 1942 and 1943.
More broadly speaking, the K2/Y was also used by Commonwealth services as a military ambulance during World War II.
J – 1954 Chevrolet 1500
Purchased new for 1200 pounds ($2,300) in

1954, this Chevrolet 1500 has spent its entire life in the Murtoa area.
Powered by a 235 cubic-inch blue ame petrol engine that produces between 112125hp, it was assembled in Australia with a George tray and bulk bin.
Despite its age, the truck has only travelled 48,000km which equates to about 700km per year, and it is still used occasionally.
The imposing 1977 Atkinson 3800 is a 19,958kg beast with a 14L Cummins engine producing 350hp.
It is among the last of the breglass cabin trucks, also o ering a 15-speed Roadranger gearbox and Hendrickson suspension.
It is located in Dimboola, having been bought from South Gippsland and working in the New South Wales town of Hay prior to that.
Powered by a V8 engine producing 150hp, this truck was purchased in 1984 a er spending its rst decade being a concrete truck.
The 1974 Acco 1910A (not pictured) had its tray and bulk designed and built by Ian Ruwoldt. It also features a 3-speed joey box and 5-speed main box and now calls Coromby home.

The transport industry is no stranger to cycles of pressure and opportunity.
The full capability of the Freightmore Transport tilt trailer is on show above
In recent times, operators across Australia have been navigating a particularly challenging landscape – rising fuel costs, tighter margins, shi ing freight demands, and ongoing supply chain disruptions.
Yet, as history o en shows, it’s during these demanding periods that the most forwardthinking businesses separate themselves from the rest.
“At Freightmore Transport, we’ve observed a clear pattern: while some operators pull back, others strategically expand, diversify, and position themselves for long-term growth,” Freightmore Transport director Jason Juwayed says.
“The di erence lies in mindset and the willingness to adapt.”
One of the most e ective ways transport operators are strengthening their position is by expanding their service capabilities.
In a market where versatility is increasingly valuable, equipment that allows operators to take on a broader range of jobs can signi cantly improve pro tability. This is where tilt tray trailers – particularly super tilts and mega tilts – are proving to be game changers.
These trailers are designed to handle a wide variety of freight, from machinery and vehicles to general cargo, giving operators the exibility to tap into multiple revenue streams.
“Instead of relying on a narrow segment of work, businesses equipped with tilt trailers can pivot quickly, take on urgent jobs, and maximise utilisation of their eet,” Jason says.
“In uncertain times, that kind of adaptability is not just bene cial – it’s essential.
“However, expanding a eet is o en easier said than done. Cash ow concerns and nancing barriers can hold businesses back from making the investments they know are necessary.”
Recognising this, Freightmore Transport has taken proactive steps to support operators who are looking to grow.
“We’ve partnered with reputable nance brokers to provide tailored solutions that make acquiring new equipment more accessible,” Jason says.
“These nance options are designed with the realities of the transport industry in mind - exible, competitive, and structured to ease the burden on working capital.”
To further support operators during this period of elevated fuel costs, Freightmore

is also o ering incentives of up to $5,000 o selected models. This initiative is aimed at helping businesses o set rising diesel expenses while still moving forward with their expansion plans.
Jason says it’s important to understand that growth during challenging times doesn’t have to mean taking unnecessary risks.
“Instead, it’s about making calculated decisions – investing in the right equipment, improving operational e ciency, and positioning your business to capture more opportunities as they arise,” he says.

“The operators who thrive in today’s environment are those who think beyond the immediate challenges.
“They focus on building resilience, increasing capability, and staying ready for the next wave of demand. With the right tools and support, expansion becomes not just possible, but strategic.”
For those considering their next move, now may be the time to act. With the right equipment, the right nancial backing, and the right mindset, even the toughest market conditions can become a platform for growth.
For more information on Freightmore’s super tilt and mega tilt range, as well as available nance options, operators are encouraged to get in touch and explore how they can take the next step forward.

The Rock Truck Show debuted this year, revving up the community, drawing crowds, chrome, competitions and big plans for the future
Images: Emma Sim
It was the perfect day for it
There was quite an impressive lineup of rigs
The Rock Truck Show ran for the rst time ever on March 7, where showgrounds transformed into a celebration of chrome and community.
With only six months to whip this show into shape, The Rock Show Society vice president Geo rey McDonnell proudly pulled it all together in time.
It started out as an idea born from absence.
“Lockhart used to have a truck show, I think there wasn’t enough interest, so they stopped,” Geo rey says.
“Some ladies connected to the show society
came to me asking for a show, and here we are.”
So, they lled the community gap, and the day was anything but quiet, with 55 trucks rolling in and around 400 people following. Made up of locals, families and truckies, it was a day to remember.
Spectators darted between tarp tying and tarp rolling competitions and egg and spoon races, while the SES set up a display alongside farm trucks and old rigs. Bull bars were on show, kids ran around with face paint and smiles, with Truckie and Road Safety

There were competitions, races, displays and fun for spectators to join in on

advocate Rod Hannifey as their special guest.
“Everyone got involved which I thought was tremendous,” Geo rey says.
“The public don’t get to see a lot of these things o en, so this day was an adventure for them.”
The show really leaned into the community’s skill as professionals icked ropes with absolute precision, turning everyday tasks into a show.
But for Geo rey, the real show standout was Ray Sutton Transport’s gleaming T909 that took home rst place for ‘Truck of the Show’.
“Wagga has been lacking a truck show, so I knew we needed to do something for the community,” he says.
“With not only the trucks, but the tarp competitions, and the races and everything going on at once, it's all such a thrill.
“This show means a lot to our community because it’s for everyone, for farmers, anyone that has interest.”
The next truck show at The Rock will take place in March 2027.
Even with the success of the rst show, Geo rey isn’t slowing down. If anything, he’s already looking ahead – bigger, better, and with even more to o er.
Because if the rst show proved anything, it’s that this event’s growth looks promising.
“I want to get Healthy Heads in Trucks and Sheds there next year,” he says. “And we’re already gearing up for round two, with the next Rock Truck Show locked in for the rst Saturday of March 2027.”
And if the debut is anything to go by, you won’t want to miss the next.
The Rock Truck Show would like to thank Truck Art Wagga Wagga and Barup Bullbars Wagga Wagga as their major sponsors.

The 2026 Tassie Truck Run achieved record-breaking numbers in Longford as 221 trucks showed o their best
Words: Tiane Gavillucci

It was a record breaker in Longford, Tasmania, as 221 big rigs and 2,500 to 3,000 people walked through the gates for the 2026 Annual Truck Run.
For 43 years, the truck run has grown from a simple day out for children, into one of the state’s most well-known trucking traditions.
But for event organiser, treasurer and secretary Julie Wise, it’s an event she holds close to her heart.
“My father started this 43 years ago with Tasmanian truck owners and operators to help out St George’s Special School, which has now been renamed to The Northern Support School, and it’s for children with disabilities,” she says.
“They would take their trucks up to the school and all the kids would hop in for a drive around Launceston, honking the horn and talking on the UHF, waving to everybody as they went along.”
While the event has been raising funds for the RFDS for six years, the organisation
has also been giving back to truck drivers through its dedicated truckie health checks.
“We have the Royal Flying Doctor health check bus where drivers can pull in, grab a sandwich and a co ee while they wait, and then go in for a quick ten-minute check,” Julie says.
Blood pressure checks, advice on quitting smoking, mental health support – it’s a simple service that makes a big di erence.
“In the last year alone they’ve done about 500 truckie health checks,” she says. “It’s really helped people.”
This year’s fundraising total is still being nalised, though Julie expects it will surpass $40,000, with hopes it may climb even higher.
But the trucks were the highlight of the day, and what a lineup it was.
From shiny show trucks to hardworking veterans, the event o ered a little bit of everything the trucking world has to o er.
“There were cranes, tow trucks, dump

And o they went!

trucks, log trucks, re trucks, there was everything, and they came from all over the state,” Julie says.
“We had people come from the northwest, the south and we had eets as well as vintage trucks.
“We were very blessed. Truly it was truck heaven in Tassie.”
One crowd favourite was a Kenworth K200 that had clocked an incredible 1.7 million miles, but it still looked as sharp as ever.
But while the machines are impressive, it’s the people that make the day unforgettable.
Families lled the grounds; kids ran around with painted faces and screams echoed from rides.
“It was nice to see people have fun,” Julie says. “The look on their faces was gold; you’d ask them if they were having a good day and they would just light up.”
And if there’s one thing Julie wants to bring to the attention of others through this event, it would be about shining a light to those behind the wheel.
“People don’t realise that these trucks are on the road 24/7 and these drivers have families at home, and sometimes they’re away for a long while,” she says.
“They miss out on a lot of things. If you even think about everything that you have in your house or at your business, at one stage, it has

been on a truck, whether it’s raw material or has been produced in a factory or a shop or a bakery, it gets to you via a truck, and a lot of people don't realise that.
“For them to get together for one day and catch up with people they haven't seen for a long time, is like having a big family come together.
“To also support the Royal Flying Doctor Service at the same time and bring the community into our world trucking, is really important to us.”
That sense of community is what keeps the event moving forward year a er year - and it’s why the organisers work so hard behind the scenes to make it happen.

Born in lockdown, Colac’s Truck and Ute Show now draws thousands, raising funds and uniting the community annually

Stunner after stunner: the show raises money for the CFA and the SES
When the whole world sat frozen in time during COVID, Daniel Williams’ mind was running.
As a truckie, he questioned whether there would be an interest out there for a show to take the small country town of Colac by storm?
Four shows later and turns out there was.
“I'm also the local re brigade captain in town, so I threw the idea out to the brigade and the show really evolved from there,” he says.
event drawing thousands through the gates.
This year alone saw around 120 trucks and 50 utes roll in, alongside an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 attendees. Families, drivers, spectators – all drawn together by a shared appreciation for machinery and mateship.
The 2026 Colac Truck and Ute Show, held on March 14, raised $25,000 for the CFA and SES.
“It's a massive e ort for all of us who are volunteers,” Daniel says.
There were thumbs up all round
“Now we work alongside the CFA and the SES to create a major fundraiser here in town.”
What began as a thought bubble during lockdown has transformed into a full-scale
“Pulling this event together isn’t easy, and to see the day run out as it did, and to nish o with such a good result is de nitely the biggest highlight.”
And what a day it was, from old-school

Even as the sun fell, the trucks lit up and wowed crowds
Truck lovers couldn’t get enough of this one

It’s always a good time at the Colac Truck and Ute Show
There were happy faces everywhere you looked

Unsurprisingly, soot filled the air and engines blared
Kids jumped up on hay bales and had the best day out

classics to modern heavy hitters, the lineup spanned generations of trucking.
Kenworths stood proudly alongside European models, polished and show ready.
Among them, one truck stood out to Daniel –the winner of the Truck of the Show, Patrick Neal with his near-new 2025 Kenworth T909.
“Patrick’s a local fella, I think that truck's only a few months old or so,” he says.
The Colac Truck and Ute Show raised $25,000 for the CFA and SES this year
“Obviously we had our normal standouts too like Land Transport and Morris Transport with their big eets that they bring along. It was a great turnout overall.”
But beyond the shiny chrome and ear blasting engines, it’s the atmosphere that
keeps the people of Colac coming back for more.
“It's not just about showing o your rigs, it's another avenue for people to meet up and socialise,” Daniel says.
“Particularly with the world’s current climate and people’s mental health. Allowing people to come together and catch up with friends that they haven't seen for years and spend the day chin wagging and showing o their trucks - their pride and joys - it's a great opportunity for that.”
Swapping stories and having a laugh is what Colac wants to embody, and so far, they’re doing a damn good job.

When it comes to charity truck shows, the concept is one that travels around the world, including this event in Florida, USA
Words & Images | Warren Aitken

JThe morning cold kept the crowds away early but there was still a few avid enthusiasts that rocked up
may be beating a bit of a drum with my opening remarks today, but I don’t think you guys realise the torturous conditions I put myself through just to share new and hopefully exciting experiences with you all. I would just like you all to take a minute to appreciate the literal discomfort I put myself through. See, when I chase down new truck shows, it o en involves a bit of travel and those of you that know me know I am not built for con ned spaces. When I chase down shows in the far o land of large cars (America), I don’t get the cappuccino and caviar end of the plane. I’m at the bottled water and peanuts end. Don’t get me wrong, I’m willing to bite that stale peanut for the sake of a story, but this new show I volunteered to chase down is at the end of one of the biggest tin taxi trips on the table. A 14 hour 40-minute ight to Dallas, followed by a two hour 20-minute ight to Tampa. I am not going to even describe the trip home – we’re talking binge watching all of Yellowstone – damn head winds. So, what did I venture all this way for? It was the second ever Raney’s Road to Wishes Truck Show in Ocala, Florida, a show run by amazing people for an amazing cause.
With my grovelling for appreciation done, let’s get down to the nitty gritty of why I endured a ‘truckies’ logbook’ day of travel. Florida, while uno cially recognised as the theme park capital of the world, is o en more known for its alligator population and a reputation for retirement villages with epic
STD records. Among us truckies, however, it is more commonly associated with the wellknown 75 Chrome Shop and its yearly eyecatching large car assembly. As keen as I am to catch that show though, Qantas was keener to give me extremely cheap ights in February – I’m talking $1,300 return. That price didn’t t with the 75 Chrome Shop Show, but it did t in with a new and upcoming charity event in the Raney’s Road to Wishes Truck Show.
For those who are will-powered enough not to be buying shiny truck parts o the internet, you may not have heard of Raney’s, the US company that has family roots in supplying truck parts all the way back to the ‘50s. It’s now a major player in the online truck parts world, especially when it comes to chrome and accessories.
Joel Raney is the young man in charge of both Raney’s LLC and the Road to Wishes Truck Show. While anyone younger than me is a ‘young man’, Joel is even more so. Barely breaking in his 30s, he began Raney’s LLC around 2010 when his old man asked for a bit of a hand selling o excess parts from his store Raney’s Truck Parts.
Being a bit more tech savvy than his elders, Joel and his cousin found a lot of success in the digital world and became one of the rst out ts focused solely on the online sales of truck parts. Initially it was just selling o his old man’s excess stock, but it gradually progressed to sourcing and supplying speci c parts for customers.
Like most new tech companies, they grew
at Monfort Speed, but unlike the majority of tech companies, they actually kept their doors open and ended up growing stronger as they expanded. They soon outgrew the old man’s shed that they had been working in and, by the time Joel had the reins to himself, the old Commodore 64 was out the window and he was opening a massive storage facility to keep up with all the orders.
In 2019, Joel and his sta of over 100 people were operating out of a massive warehouse and opened up a huge 11,000 sqm showroom and retail store with a massive parking lot just o the 75. Basically, it’s a huge truckers’ toy store that you could pull your big rig into and empty your wallet all in one go.
Now that’s the story behind the people behind the show, let’s get to the show. The idea behind the show was fairly simple – Joel and his team love their trucks, they love the products they sell and they wanted to help raise money for a very special cause in the Make a Wish Foundation.
The Make a Wish Foundation is a massive world-wide non-pro t group that helps arrange special wishes for kids with critical and life altering illnesses. It has been doing this for over 40 years and grants nearly 30,000 wishes globally per year. It is a massive venture and involves wishes
from toy store shopping sprees and room makeovers all the way to meeting celebrities or attending events like the Super Bowl.
When you meet Joel, you will understand why he is the sort of person that will organise an event like the Roads to Wishes Truck Show for a cause that he has thankfully never had to have his own kids a liated with. But if you are wanting to know exactly why he chose Make a Wish as the charity of choice, I will let him tell you exactly why.
“I was ying out of Orlando and sitting at the airport, I saw this young girl and her family. The girl had a Make a Wish shirt on and was dancing around all happy and excited. She had obviously just been to Disneyland or somewhere and was very excited,” Joel recalls.
“I sat down next to this lady, and we were talking about the girl, we were on the same ight and kept talking. When we got on board, the girl’s family actually moved so I could keep talking to her. We are now married with two kids.”
It’s a little bit American rom-com, but a very cool and motivating story behind this new show. Speaking of which, let’s get onto the show. As you know, I try not to sugarcoat too much – I will call a spade a shovel when necessary. I do want you to keep in mind
Now this was a crowd pleaser. The Jones Performance Products Kenworth with a little bit of extra flare kept the kids entertained during the Friday night light show

There is a reason Randy Moss has that championship belt over his shoulder! Along with his wife Misty and daughter Alexis, the Moss family run Blessed Beyond BBQ and man do they know how to BBQ
There is a very well stocked driver's room inside the Raney's showroom, giving entrants a chance to relax and refuel
One of the coolest little set ups was this Smokey and the Bandit Combos. I was lucky enough to organise a photoshoot with these two icons after the show
One of my favourites was this cool 1958 B-61 Mack ute
Brian Kohl with his Autism tribute Kenworth T680 that he pilots for RDH Haulage

The top trophy on the schedule is the Kids Choice award, this year it went to Alex & Daniel Garcia and the crew from A&A Stainless with their one-of-a-kind DANGER truck
There is a rich Mack history over in the States and it was actually nice to see a few old classics at this Florida show
Clifton Parsley with his 2024 389 Peterbilt. The big girl has a 50T Miller Rotator packed in the back and runs out of Cave City in Kentucky
I am not being prejudiced but the Americans need a few lessons from our Aussie bred Bullet Burnout Truck on how to entertain the crowd. The truck looked cool, but the e ort was 5/10

this is only the second year of this show, so my one-word verdict for this show would be ‘whelming’.
John & Amy Dafoe from Michigan, in front of their 1986 Marmon. Alongside Ryan & Cindy Wishtner with their 1982 P110 Marmon
Let me explain – building a show legacy is never easy. Trying to establish its Bona de under the looming shadow of a fastapproaching Mid America Truck Show and in the doorstep of the long running 75 Chrome Shop show is a challenge, no matter how good the cause is. I believe the Roads to Wishes Truck Show will de nitely be a major player on the US show calendar as it grows. It has a fantastic location, it has ample parking, it is packed with local support and entertainment, and it is being run for all the right reasons.
My ‘whelming’ rating comes from the expectation graph I have quietly concocted with no o ciality. There are shows you attend and you can be completely ‘underwhelmed’ by and conversely you can get to a show and be completely ‘overwhelmed’. In its infancy I found the Roads to Wishes sat happily in the middle – perfectly ‘whelmed’. There was a solid entry list, I think there was around 75 in total. The standard of 90 per cent of them was American Truck Show perfect, but there was plenty of space available for this show to grow and expand.
There is a good mix of bobtail setups, working combos (that’s American truck show for tractor unit and single trailer) as well as a few non-road legal custom trucks. There were some state-of-the-art brand-new rigs, like the latest Peterbilt 589s and a few of the last W900s being build. There was also a big turnout from the historic truck lovers with some beautifully restored relics.
I would happily slap an ‘overwhelming’ banner on at least a couple of the half dozen food trucks; the Yanks know how to master a BBQ, and a big shout out to the Cuban crew for some homemade brisket as well. That was divine.
If I was one of the kids, then I’d de nitely add an ‘overwhelming’ banner on the kids’ corner for entertainment. It was fantastic to see so many activities that didn’t need a screen and a power outlet – bouncy castles, slides, rides and numerous amenities that allowed you to throw things and other things. Footballs, in atable axes, you name it, the Yanks love throwing it.
When it comes to the adult entertainment, I need to wave the ‘underwhelming’ ag. The live band were pretty good, but having seen the mighty Laurie Williams entertain the crowds with the Bullet Burnout truck, it was very de ating to see a souped up, stunning Mack Super-Liner perform burnouts that could be bettered by a Brisbane hoon on an E-bike. A couple of the folk on hand were more focused on the video I was showing of the Bullet Burnout truck in action than the actual live event.
I’m not waving any ag when you look at the passion and pride of those that did turn up for the second show. When it comes to passion for their pride and joy, you cannot fault the Yanks there. There were a couple of exceptional old Marmons that were restored better than the original.
There were some pristine historic rides that looked like they’d never turned a wheel in anger and then there was a Smokey and

the Bandit display that I swear looked like it had just rolled o the movie set. The iconic Smokey and the Bandit Kenworth on display was actually the rst Snowman tribute truck built and is one of only four genuine ones in America.
I will gloat about the fact that the owner of BANONE, the Bandits Trans-am, even gi ed me a 10-inch nail that he’d personally pulled from the bridge that Bandit jumped in the movie 50 years ago – ngers crossed I make it through Customs with it still in my possession.
I think it was great that this is a two-day event as well. Friday morning sees many of the trucks starting to roll in and get prepping. There is a plethora of polishing teams selling their wares and shining up all the contenders and, best of all, the Friday night lights up the local area with a high-powered light show from all those already staged up.
Where I think this show will shine in the future is the commitment and care that Joel and his team put into this growing event, from the fact they made-up custom Roads to Wishes tea cosies to beautify the trash bins to the fact that inside the warehou se the company’s smoko room had been opened up to drivers and their families with food and drink on o er for everyone to partake in, as well as some comfy seating and a pool table if you felt like dropping some balls.
The show has a very strong family and
community feel to it and that can be felt over both Friday and Saturday. While I am still awaiting this year’s fundraising tally. the inaugural event last year raised $90,000, and the goal this year was to beat that.
The community also gets right behind this event, with displays put on by the likes of the Marion County Sheri ’s O ce and the Ocala Fire Rescue crew. It also helps that the weather in Florida is just right at this time of year – the perfect Goldilocks bowl, you could say. Not too hot and not too cold.
In summary, don’t be put o by ‘whelming’ –it is a good show, and I de nitely believe as its popularity and attendance grows, so will my review score.
Thankfully, I wrote most of this review before I jumped back in the tin taxi for what would turn out to be a 50-hour return leg rather than an already excessive 26-hour trip. A deviation into Fiji because the fuel guy in Dallas holstered the pump a er the rst click meant we were running low and, as such, we got benched at the beach for a day. All that may have altered my views on whether this ordeal was worth it. It didn’t though – instead I got to come home and upload all these photos you see and by then all the discomfort was washed away in the happy memories. Hence go look at them, have a think about a cruise to Florida next February (5th and 6th, 2027) and check out the Raney’s Road to Wishes Truck Show.
The Americans love their lights and aren’t subtle about it

Bobcat Forkli s’ new lithium-ion three-wheel range has been launched in Australia, addressing a market demand for compact performance
The exclusive Australian distributor of Bobcat Forkli s, Li Equipt, has launched a new compact lithium-ion three-wheel forkli range engineered for tight local warehouse and logistics environments.
The Bobcat BNT Series – available in B16NT, B18NT and B20NT models – has been developed with end-user feedback to meet the demands of real-world Australian applications.
Li Equipt says the three-wheel forkli range is purpose-built for con ned environments where compact dimensions and precise manoeuvrability have a direct impact on productivity.
The reduced wheelbase and three-wheel con guration deliver agility in tight aisles and congested layouts. With a tight turning radius and optimised wheelbase geometry, Li Equipt adds the BNT Series can comfortably operate in narrow racking systems, restricted picking
zones and inside shipping containers where larger forkli s lose e ciency.
Powered by advanced LFP lithium-ion technology, the BNT Series achieves a full charge in approximately two to three hours.
The high-speed charging system reduces charging time by up to 40 percent, supporting opportunity charging during breaks and shi changes and eliminating the need for battery swaps.
An integrated battery management system ensures reliable operation, including in cold storage and freezer applications.
Safety features on the forkli models include the Bobcat Guardian Safety System incorporating automatic speed reduction when cornering, anti-roll back protection, operator sensing and electronic parking brake functionality, which is suited to busy warehouse and logistics environments.
The lithium-ion battery is maintenance-free, and simpli ed service access with centralised electrical components help reduce downtime and operating costs.
Li Equipt national sales and dealer manager Tim Worcester says the BNT Series addresses a clear demand in the Australian market.
“The Bobcat Forkli s BNT Series is all about compact performance,” Worcester says.
“Australian warehouses are under pressure to maximise every square metre, and this machine delivers the reduced wheelbase and tight turning capability needed to operate e ciently in restricted spaces.
“It gives customers a genuine compact solution backed by lithiumion simplicity and national support.”
The Bobcat BNT Series is now available across Australia through Li Equipt and authorised Bobcat Forkli s dealers.
