Volvo’s new focus on North America Volvo will spend $1.2 billion on new investments in the North American market but will shut down production at its facility in Scotland. The company says that expanding its footprint in North America will help to sustain the company’s vast dealership network with better and faster services and support.

“North America is one of the largest, most important truck markets in the world,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks in North America. “If you want to play, you have to put your money where your mouth is.”

Volvo has built, is building or is planning to build new facilities to better support customers and dealers. This includes a $400 million factory in North Carolina, a $40 million factory in New England, and a $37 million regional parts-distribution plant in

Tacoma, Washington, that will serve the US Northwest and Western Canada.

Volvo is also building a $700 million factory in Mexico to help augment operations in the US by offsetting fluctuations in the market.The firm says that the Mexico factory is not replacing ‘Made in America’ pledges but will boost US operations by being able to ramp up production when necessary.

However, the firm is also stopping production of the Rokbak trucks at the facility in Motherwell, Scotland. Volvo CE bought the factory and the rights to the Terex ADTs made at the plant in 2014.

According to Volvo CE, rising operational and supply chain costs, combined with global trade challenges such as the US tariffs, have impacted financial performance, making continued operation unsustainable.

Production of Rokbak articulated haulers is expected to stop in the second half of 2026, subject to a consultation process.

Terex was an early pioneer of the ADT, with its three-axle 2366 model being one of the first competitors to Volvo CE’s own range. The Terex factory in Motherwell, Scotland, first started producing Euclid rigid dumptrucks in 1950, followed by scrapers and bulldozers.

The machines made at the factory were later rebranded as Terex, with ADTs then being made under this name.

The planned cutting of the Rokbak range follows on from Volvo CE’s sale of its share in the SDLG brand of wheeled loaders and excavators being made in China to its Chinese partner, Lingong.

Conveyors and Franna – and a new integrated platform for the company’s digital transformation tools.

MAGNA is the company’s large-scale crushing and screening equipment, Marco includes a durable tubular truss conveyor, and Franna includes the company’s mobile crane market.

Paul Morris, director of telematics and digital solutions for Terex, says that the rebranding of Innex as the company’s consolidated digital-tools suite will help supporti ts dealer network in the North America region as they work with customers to meet needs and solve challenges.

Xwatch and Topcon have agreed a novel partnership technology deal, with technology from both firms being integrated to work together

Xwatch and Topcon co-operation Xwatch Safety Solutions is integrating its technology with the MC-X Platform from Topcon Positioning Systems to deliver a new, connected layer between machine-control and on-machine safety.

Topcon’s MC-X Platform can work with mixed fleets through intuitive 3D-MC software, Sitelink3D connectivity and multi-constellation GNSS. And with Xwatch’s systems now being integrated, this can provide a single, safety-aware machine-control environment, where digital guidance, realtime machine data and active

safety systems are able to work together on the machine.

The move marks the start of a co-operation between Topcon and Xwatch, with the first live integrations scheduled for the end of this year.

Dan Leaney, global managing director, Xwatch Safety Solutions, said: “This integration with Topcon’s MC-X Platform is a practical step forward in how the industry brings machine control and safety closer together. Xwatch has built its position as a global leader in construction-machinery safety systems by focusing on what

happens on the machine, in real working conditions. Connecting that capability into MC-X allows contractors and dealers to move towards a more joined-up, safety-aware and data-led way of operating their fleets. The agreement is of note as Xwatch is part of the Hexagon Group. This reveals a greater participation between technology firms and the move towards improved connectivity for users and for the construction sector as a whole.

Wacker Neuson is in a strong position Wacker Neuson is in a strong position in North America and elsewhere, according to the firm’s president for the territory, Gert Reichetseder. The firm has a leading position in the segment for dumpers, for example. He said, “We are global market leader.”

The company has set a precedent in this segment, with its powerful 12tonne capacity dumper featuring a reversible cab, which is said to boost safety.

The company is also developing machines for the North American market. The new ST37 compact tracked loader is for the global market but is expected to sell particularly well in North America. However, with sales growing for the compact tracked 06

loaders, the firm has taken a notable decision with regard to its skid steer-loaders. Reichetseder said, “We stopped building wheeled skid steers last year.”

The firm has also developed some models specifically for North American customers, such as the 4tonne ET40 mini excavator.

“It’s been designed in the US

and built in the US for the US,” Reichetseder said. “It’s all about performance and usability. It’s a complete redesign.”

However, he added, “Even though it’s new design, it shares a lot of features with other excavators.” The machine has optional cameras and a keyless start system, as well as a second auxiliary circuit so it can use a tiltrotator and attachment. Also new from the firm are the TH625 telehandler and the RTD trench roller, which offers better access to hoses for maintenance and a novel return to a straight steering system. Reichetseder said, “This is a complete redesign and it’s designed and built in the US.”

Steady business for FAYAT FAYAT Group president Jean-Claude Fayat spoke with Global Highway editor Mike Woof at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026

T

he FAYAT Group has been a leader in the road machinery sector for many years and one area where the firm ranks amongst the pioneers is for the development of autonomous construction machinery. Both the BOMAG and Dynapac road machinery brands have been working on autonomous compactors for some time, with technological assistance for the positioning systems from Trimble.

Autonomy and AI are buzzwords in the construction machinery sector at present.

Jean-Claude Fayat is president of the family-owned FAYAT Group and said, “We are still at the beginning of this. I’m sure in the next years the development will go fast.”

He explained that labour shortages across the global construction industry are helping drive the need for greater levels of autonomy for off-highway machines. “It’s not easy to find people to drive machines.”

Fully autonomous construction machines remain far off for a number of reasons and perhaps would only suit use on specific jobsites with areas that would be closed to personnel access. But tools

offering driver-assistance capabilities and semi-autonomy are definitely attracting interest in the construction sector. Safety tools are particularly in demand and Fayat said, “A part of that is for detection of people.” He continued that a big French contractor has carried out analysis of incidents on construction sites involving injuries and identified that around 90% involve construction machines, often due to personnel not having been spotted by operators.

The FAYAT Group has a division that focuses on advanced technology and AI systems are helping to boost site safety.

Fayat said, “AI is part of our detection system. We have a small team in the group that focuses on this.” He explained that this team works across BOMAG, Dynapac and Mecalac to provide AI and other advanced technologies for use in safety systems as well as other sophisticated tools.

Within the group, the firm has its own Fayat Innovation Challenge every two years. The most recent was in 2025, with the winners being announced at the bauma

show in Munich. This time there are already 20 projects utilising AI and Fayat commented, “It’s a good motivation.”

Some of these advanced systems are already being used, such as the BOMAG AI tool that provides access to key data using a conventional smartphone.

Meanwhile, civils firm RazelBec, also part of the FAYAT Group, uses an AI tool to analyse tender processes. “It lets you know what information you need to comply and follow up with for the tender process.”

Electrification is another area where the FAYAT Group has been a pioneer, but market demand has so far not matched expectations.

Fayat said, “We have worked a lot on that but if I see the number of machines we have sold it is low.

Demand is higher for small electric machines but it is still low overall.

The return on investment is not good.”

He added that while demand for electric equipment has been better in China, “Even there, electric machines are not dominant. Two years ago I was thinking take-up of electric machines would be faster but now I don’t know.”

Demand for electric machines in Europe remains low and lower still in the US, with the exception of California where emissions requirements are stricter.

Business levels are good across the group although tariffs have made importing machines to the US challenging and he said, “It’s the same for everybody.”

Although now that the ADM and LeeBoy brands are part of the FAYAT Group, the company has been able to cope with tariffs more easily than it would have otherwise.

Fayat said that overall demand for construction machines is stable, “Today it’s a good market. The sales of equipment in the US are good.” www.fayat.com/en/fayat-group

The -9 Series uses the smart around-view monitor camera system and human-detection system. Six cameras, radar sensors and AI-powered human detection provide a 360-degree view around the machine.

Meanwhile, Active E-Stop kicks in if a person enters the machine’s designated “danger zone” - within 10 feet. The machine automatically brings all movement, including the swing and travel, to a complete stop.

Link-Belt highlights its new excavators Link-Belt is promoting its 220 X4S excavator. The company’s latest model boasts an Isuzu AR-4HK1X engine. The excavator can dig up to 6.64 metres deep and can reach more than 9 metres at ground level. It comes with an arm force of 112 kN and 154 kN of bucket-digging force.

iuGong is confident that sales of its electric construction machines will continue to grow, both globally and in the US. The firm believes that its latest electric wheeled loaders are proving particularly attractive options. And LiuGong has also just notched up a deal to supply two 856 TE electric loaders to a customer in California.

Andrew Ryan is LiuGong’s president for North America.

He said, “We think we have a technology that will save customers money.”

The cost of recharging an electric machine is around 20%

of that of fuelling it with diesel in North America. And the total running costs for an electric machine are lower still, with no need to replace engine oil, and simpler drive systems. For wheeled loaders being used at permanent sites such as a quarry, asphalt plant or concrete plant, installing recharging points will be straightforward.

LiuGong is introducing two new electric wheeled loaders, the 7tonne 820 TE and 24.6tonne 870 HE. The 820 TE can offer travel speeds of up to 40km/h for markets where this is permitted, features a 70.5kWh powertrain and a

The 870 HE features a 423kWh powertrain and a rated load capacity of 7.5tonnes. The latter machine can also be equipped with the 360° camera safety system. Ryan said that customers often replace conventional diesel machines in a fleet when the units are five years old because this is when they are likely to require extensive maintenance. But for electric drive units, the maintenance requirements are lower and the equipment will need less attention so there will be less of a cost incentive to replace them when they are five

years old. He said: “It’ll change how customers think about fleet costs.”

The technology is proven, allaying concerns over battery life. Ryan said: “These batteries are already going over 20,000 hours and our engineers are confident they will get to 40,000 hours.”

KOMATSU KEEPS ON TRUCKING T he Komatsu HM460-6 articulated dump truck has reimagined the operator experience and created an all-new cab with expansive visibility, intuitive monitors and new technology to help assist operators throughout long shifts.

Compared to the previous HM400-5 model, its power has increased 9% and torque has improved 23% but there is up to 12% lower fuel

consumption. The operator cab has had a 16% increase in glass area, an improved premium seat and intuitive monitor and operator controls.

The HM460-6 is equipped with the next-generation Komatsu DBA127 engine, engineered to deliver high horsepower and torque for strong acceleration and sustained travel speeds, even under load. The two-stage turbocharger engine is designed

to use 12% less fuel than the prior models.

Ground conditions can change quickly. The Komatsu Traction Control System works in combination with inter-axle and cross-axle differential locks for smooth, trouble-free hauling. The cross-axle differential lock can be manually engaged when needed on slippery terrain.

Komatsu said that a myriad of operator-assist features make

hauling and dumping easier.

Cruise control and Automatic Retard Speed Control make maintaining an efficient velocity simple. Dumping can be controlled with a single finger, with a customisable dumping angle.

New HX Crawlers from Hyundai Hyundai unveiled the first models of its Next Generation HX crawler excavators to be available in the North American market. The redesigned machines boast enhanced comfort, advanced technologies and increased fuel efficiency.

The HX crawler excavators now come standard with a Hyundai engine that brings improved fuel efficiency.

And, more robust booms are now fully electric hydraulic, providing more precise control for operators. The undercarriage is also thicker, making the machines more rugged and long-lasting.

In terms of comfort and safety, the HX crawler excavators come with a completely redesigned cab with more ergonomic controls and larger windows. New straight travel pedals make it easier to move the machines longer distances, providing skid-steer-like controls in the excavator. In addition, updated rear and 360-degree camera views are paired with radar technology for better object and person detection that can trigger autonomous actions to avoid collisions.

Smart intelligence also lets operators set boundaries and limits in movement for safety reasons – limiting boom swing in a tight space or depth if digging a utility trench, for example. New lift-assist technology can warn operators if they are unbalanced or in danger of becoming unbalanced based on current conditions.

With Gravis Copilot, real-time surveying gives an operator an instant understanding of the work that needs to be done. Operators can upload a CAD file for a site and see the target terrain highlighted along with boundaries and buried utilities.

This gives them a real-time, augmented-terrain visualisation from inside the cab, allowing operators to dig and grade without having to reference paper plans or measuring tape. Expert operators can use this technology to be more productive and not be

Power comes from one of the firm’s own JD Series diesels, rated at 371kW and meeting the Tier 4 Final Emission requirements. Fuel consumption is said to be low despite the power of the engine, due in part to the sophisticated and efficient driveline that supplies power to all six wheels.

Featuring a heaped capacity of 25.2m3, the truck has a maximum payload of 41.8tonnes in its body, which is designed for optimum weight distribution as well as efficient dumping to minimise carryback.

When empty, the truck weighs in at 31.5tonnes.

The truck features a highvisibility, high-comfort cab with good ergonomics to allow efficient operation throughout

Increased dozing efficiency with Caterpillar Caterpillar’s D8 XE bulldozer is said to offer high efficiency and performance. The machine shares many components, such as the engine, with the existing Next Generation D8 dozer with a conventional mechanical drive but offers even higher efficiency and productivity.

According to the firm, the new diesel-electric variant typically runs the engine at a lower rpm (1,400-1,500rpm instead of 2,100rpm) and offers a fuel saving of up to 10% over the conventional model. Combined with the increased productivity, this delivers an overall efficiency 14

The machine can handle up to 50% reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) in the feed and is said to offer a combination of high efficiency, mix consistency and uptime.

AMMANN RAP ASPHALT SOLUTIONS A mmann is offering several plant solutions for the use of RAP in the feed for asphalt production. Versatility and adaptability are claimed, along with high output and consistent mix quality and the firm has different plants to suit the needs of different customers.

The firm’s ACC Alpine mixing plant is said to enable producers to maximise RAP content but without sacrificing mix quality. This plant is available with a range of options to suit the specific needs of

different users. Typical RAP rates reach 50% as standard and up to 60% with the addition of a dual-collar feed. An extended drum-mixing section is used that helps to optimise heat transfer and mixing time, delivering consistent, high-quality mix designs at market-leading RAP levels.

SAKAI’S COMPACT PNEUMATIC S akai is now offering its TS160 rubber-tyred roller for the international market. The machine has been proven in the firm’s home market of Japan and is now being made available in North America, as well as in Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa. The machine has been adapted to meet North

American requirements, such as being fitted with ROPS protection. Power comes from a Kubota engine delivering 15.6kW which meets Tier 4 Final emissions requirements, while the machine can be powered by other variants of the engine for markets with different legislation. Weighing in at 3.5tonnes, the machine

has a 165litre water tank and triple filtration for its waterspray system. The machine suits finishing work and its compact size means it can be used in urban areas where larger equipment would have difficulty manoeuvring.

As with other asphaltcompactor models in the Sakai range, the TS160 can

Astec’s efficient hydrogen burner Astec claims that its new asphalt-plant burner offers more efficient operation than competing systems. The burner can be fuelled either by 100% hydrogen or 100% natural gas, or any mix of the two, according to the firm.

A key feature of the burner is the way the air and fuel are premixed prior to combustion which boosts efficiency and reduces emissions, according to Astec’s Shannon Putman. He said: “You’ve a perfect mix of

hydrogen and air before it reaches the burner.”

The burner type is available now from Astec and can be built to order. But with hydrogen fuel costs higher than conventional fuel costs, these are likely to remain fuelled by natural gas for some time. Putman added: “When it heats up fully, you can’t see the flame. It’s spooky. You’ve got fire but you just can’t see it.”

Tiltrotators are designed for resource-efficient digging in the resource-scarce construction world, said Krister Blomgren, chief executive of Engcon. The company’s tiltrotators, from series one to three, basically save time and extra labour on an excavation project.

An excavator with a tiltrotator attached to the boom can dig from one stationary position – with no need to change positions in relation to the work at hand.

This is because the Engcon tiltrotator does the changes itself, angling as needed to accommodate the work required.

Blomgren said that this can speed up a job by up to 40%.

JLG embraces connectivity Construction-equipment manufacturer JLG is reimagining the jobsite of the future by integrating robotics, AI, connectivity and electrification across its existing product lines to make workers safer and more productive. Dubbed the Clearsky Smart Suite system, JLG’s new autonomous platform augments human abilities with machine precision and scale, according to Sara Vincent, the company’s director of marketing.

“It’s not about replacing human workers,” she says. “It’s about making labour more efficient and more productive while being safe.”

For example, JLG is demonstrating how an operator on the ground can remotely weld an ibeam into place. A laser welder is mounted on the end of an articulated boom lift, and, using sensors and advanced video imaging, the system moves the 34

welder and beam into place. Different coloured lights and audible sirens warn people nearby before the weld is placed. Quality checks are conducted automatically in real time as the operator monitors progress from a safe distance, able to operate multiple machines in tandem. Use cases include welding, painting, material transport, component installation, and glazing.

JLG is also showcasing a drywall-finishing robot that it is developing. The machine automatically sands and muds drywall – a labour-intensive and potentially dangerous task requiring repetitive muscle movement. Vincent suggests that the robot could help speed timelines for the growing number of AI-data-centre construction projects. The robot is not commercially available but is being tested in the field

by JLG customers.

Enerpac is unveiling its latest telescopic hydraulic gantry crane. The SBL600 can lift up to 600tonnes and move the load laterally along skid tracks that can be laid out as far as the operator needs to go.

According to Benigno Pelaez, sales director for the company’s Latin American market, lifting loads from the top along a gantry is ideal for loads in tight spaces, indoor loads or loads that sit flat on the ground with no room for forklift prongs.

Pelaez says that a major differentiator for Enerpac is its gantry architecture.

This puts the hydraulics inside the lift, eliminating the need to set up equipment next to the gantry where the tangle of cables and cords connecting the hydraulics to the pump can create a hazard for workers.

The unit (roughly the size of a pizza box) fits under the drum and the data can be displayed in the cab of the asphalt compactor, showing the density of the mat.

SANY unveiled a new highprecision 3D guidance system designed to help SANY excavator operators improve digging precision while maintaining safety.

Called RootPilot, the guidance system uses IMU and GNSS sensors to create a 3D map of the immediate dig site. Operators can use this information to gain critical insight into site conditions, dimensions and any hazards on the ground or underground.

The guidance system then sets operator restrictions overlaid on the 3D map, preventing over-digging or other dangerous manoeuvres. Right now, the system provides indicators to the operator who can then take action, but in the future, there are plans to enable autonomous actions.

CM Labs tackles training CM Labs is tackling the talent gap plaguing construction companies today by transforming how the industry trains new workers on equipment, using digital simulators and coursework to expand access to training.

“Training on construction equipment has traditionally been passed down from generation to generation – typically through rural and farming families,” said Mary Lee Shalvoy, director of communications and content for CM Labs. “Our society has changed, and people aren’t exposed to those experiences anymore. We need to find new ways to train operators so we can fill these important jobs.”

CM Labs has developed courses across dozens of equipment types from articulated dump trucks to wheeled excavators. Simulations are based on real jobs that workers would be asked to complete like digging a trench or laying underground piping. Students can even practise loading equipment onto a trailer, driving the truck to a job site, unloading the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner, and connecting an attachment – such as a shovel or rock crusher.

According to Peter Johnson, vice president of business development for the company, the ability of crews to power their tools from batteries reduces generator time – ultimately saving power costs while reducing emissions.

Discover units are true plug-and-play systems, allowing them to be set up virtually anywhere there is a need for power and scaled to meet any electricity needs.

BKT is introducing a new rubber track for compact loaders. The BKT Multiforce T91 is made of a high-performance compound that ensures maximum resistance to cuts, tears and abrasion. The aggressive, C-shaped tread pattern provides superior handling and traction across all terrains.

According to the company, the track is suitable for a variety of surfaces on and off the road – such as clay, mud, asphalt, gravel and sand – and is especially adept on sloped or hilly terrain.

Moog showcases pump drive motors Going electric has its benefits - better fuel efficiency, lower power costs, fewer emissions.

But what if your construction site is not near an electrical power source?

Enter Moog, an innovator in pump drive motors, a device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy to drive a hydraulic pump.

The servo motor receives power and commands from an inverter to deliver immediate and efficient power to the hydraulic pump – on demand.

According to Ludovic Boisse, a product manager at Moog, this eliminates the need to power hydraulics all the time. Instead, the hydraulics are powered only when needed, saving up to 30-40% of electrical power consumption.

Innovative power systems from DIMAAG DIMAAG is offering an innovative integrated electric vehicle technology stack as well as sophisticated solutions for a portable fast-charging system. A partnership with Hitachi has seen the system used in a ZX17e mini excavator, with up to six swappable modules. The machine can operate on as few as two modules, allowing for a hot-swap workflow. Paired with DIMAAG’s portable charger, which can replenish modules in minutes, this setup ensures high availability and 24/7 continuous operation.

In addition, DIMAAG is offering novel voice-control technology for midsize excavators, which enables operators to command the machine via voice to control standard machine functions.

This solution was developed to allow operators to focus on operating the machine.

Operators can keep their hands on the joystick and verbally command the machine to do what they need, instead of having to adjust settings or switch on other functions. The system allows operators to instruct the machine’s front end to move via voice command, increasing working precision.

ohn Deere Power Systems is introducing a new 4litre, four-cylinder diesel engine and is in the process of developing new 5litre and 8litre units. All three engines retain the high-power density concept seen already in existing units from the firm.

New to the market, the compact 4litre-capacity JD4 is available now and offers power ratings from 63-129kW, depending on requirements.

The coming 5litre JD5 will be available with power ratings from 93-200kW, while the 8litre JD8 will offer power ratings from 187-290kW, with both units being ready for the market in 2029. As with the existing 9litre, 14litre and top-of-therange 18litre engine, the new units will be able to run on HVO and up to 30% biofuels.

Mounted on four wheels, this towable unit is rated at 252kWh. It features a 240V AC output and maximum DC output

Volvo Penta is launching a new natural gas engine, providing customers with a lower-emission backup power source for highgrowth sectors. While the engine was designed specifically for data centres, utilities and other mission-critical infrastructure, the G17 natural gas engine can be used as a backup power supply for construction sites.

According to a company press release, “the G17 natural gas engine [is] a counterpart to Volvo Penta’s proven D17 genset engine [and] represents a significant step forward in the company’s transformation journey, delivering fuel flexibility, scalable performance, and a pathway toward a more decarbonised and resilient energy future.”

HIGH-POWER DENSITY FROM CATERPILLAR C aterpillar is working on the new C3.6 dieselengine variant which offers a very high-power density. The engine is being developed at Caterpillar’s facility in Peterborough in the UK and will also be available as the Perkins 904J. It is rated at a maximum power output of 129kW, allowing OEMs to either increase the power of machines significantly or to select this unit instead of larger capacity engines.

Testing of the engine will start in pilot machines in 2027,

with it being in production in 2028.

Martin Constantine has been involved with the project for Caterpillar and explained that it has been developed from an engine in production since 2019, retaining a similar external layout which will help installation for OEMs. However, the research and development programme has delivered major upgrades that include a new twin-stage air system, new conrods, steel-forged crank and new pistons. At the same time, some proven components,

such as the starter motor and alternator, have been retained as they did not need replacing.

Constantine said: “We’ve pushed hard to get that power

and 10 years ago it would’ve been unthinkable. It’ll allow OEMs to downsize the engine from a 4.5litre unit.” www.cat.com

Cummins engines for the future HELM Platforms - higher efficiency, lower emissions and multiple fuels are Cummins engines designed to help its customers reach their sustainability goals while getting the job done on site.

HELM is a critical part of Cummins’ broader ‘Destination Zero’ strategy that states the company wants to achieve net-zero emissions across company facilities and operations, as well as deliver low-carbon and zero-emissions technologies across all markets the company serves, by 2050.

The company’s recently launched 15L hydrogen ICE and 15L natural gas engines are just one more example of how Cummins intends to achieve ‘Destination Zero’.

In particular, the X15 series Cummins HELM line-up will include a natural gas, advanced diesel and hydrogen engine. Hydrogen engines 42

share many similar components to diesel engines, making them an efficient, familiar, and scalable alternative to traditional engines.

Hydrogen engines release nearly zero trace amounts of carbon dioxide, and fuel-cell electric vehicles produce no emissions other than water vapour.

Unlike electric vehicles, which are off the road for extended times to charge, hydrogen engines offer quick refuelling times and diesel-like performance, durability and reliability.

Because hydrogen-fuelled engines are similar in design to diesel, Cummins has designed an attachment that sits atop the diesel engine that converts the engine to burning hydrogen. But this is still in the future, when the market for hydrogen engines begins to pick up again after its current slump, according to the company.

Bridgestone’s future-ready tyres Bridgestone is boosting tyre performance with its new MasterCore V-Steel M-Traction Deep. The VMTD tyre is only the start and Bridgestone will embed high technology into new tyre designs for smaller machines.

The VMTD 27.00R49 is for 100tonne class haul trucks. After months of testing in real-life conditions, the company said the VMTD has a 10% longer life than similar tyres, partly because of its dual-sidewall structure, combined with narrow grooves in the tread pattern There is a 10% increase in load capacity, delivering a 2% boost in tonnes/km, making it a high-productivity tyre and it will be available from June 2026, according to Bridgestone.

Meanwhile, for 2027, Bridgestone will be introducing its new V-Steel Rock Deep Ultra (VRDU) tyre in 35-inch size specifically for 60tonne class rigid dump trucks. It features a new tread pattern with slopes and centre grooves to release debris quickly and minimise heat generation.

Importantly, Bridgestone continues to significantly improve its tyres’ data-collection capabilities to ensure the best possible analysis of performance for a fleet owner.

Tyre pressure, heating and GPS details are only a sample of the information that critical sensors gather, making Bridgestone tyres a data-collection solution and not just rubber on the ground.
