SPECIAL APPLICATIONS EXCAVATORS Hitachi is offering a range of excavators that are specially modified for use in certain applications.

The ZX250LC-7 super long front (SLF), is assembled at the HCME factory in Amsterdam and suits duties such as dredging, loading and slope-finishing. The boom and arm design combines strength and versatility, allowing an extended working range of 18m.

The ZX350-7 with clamshell telescopic arm (CTA) is supplied by Hitachi in Japan. Available with 30m reach, it can be used for removing material from below ground and features modified hydraulics, boosting productivity on complex excavation projects. The clamshell telescopic arm offers high-speed extension and retraction, combined with a powerful pulling force, allowing it to work in confined spaces.

Unlike standard or long-reach excavators, it requires minimal swing room, suiting it for use in compact areas.

ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE CASE is offering advanced driver assistance systems for its wheeled loaders. These are designed to enhance safety, efficiency and productivity on the jobsite. The new systems include better visibility, obstacle and hazard perception, AI-based driving assistance and semi- to fully-autonomous loader operations.

To further support safety and productivity, CASE is also introducing advanced remote monitoring technology, providing remote machine assistance. This technology enables real-time monitoring of operational conditions and fuel consumption, and it facilitates predictive maintenance, ultimately reducing downtime and improving fleet management.

Hitachi is unveiling new excavators for special applications

Autonomous and remote control Liebherr is demonstrating its innovative autonomous wheeled loader concept as well as a novel remote control dozer package. The highly advanced autonomous driving system for wheeled loaders is called Liebherr Autonomous Operations and has been developed in-house.

This autonomous solution allows machines to work without an operator in the cab. The system can be used in areas that would be dangerous for an operator, such as close to a high rock face in an extraction operation for example.

The package uses an array of sensors and guidance systems to ensure that the machine can operate quickly and efficiently throughout the working day, without reducing productivity due to operator fatigue. Safety technology

ensures that there is no risk to site personnel.

Meanwhile, the Liebherr remote control system (LiReCon) suits use on crawler dozers.

The firm says that its new PR 776 G8 70tonne crawler dozer can be controlled remotely for greater versatility, also allowing its use in areas that would be dangerous for an operator to access.

The control system is said to allow accurate and precise operation, without compromising productivity or efficiency. High output is claimed and the operator can be working in a comfortable area away from the noise and dirt of a challenging site. This further helps to boost output by reducing operator fatigue.

Upgraded grading Caterpillar is unveiling its 140 AWD Next Generation Motor Grader prototype. Weighing in at 20tonnes, this machine benefits from a range of new technologies that boost productivity and finish quality. The firm says that the 140 AWD Next Generation Motor Grader combines two existing platforms into a common next generation platform for motor graders. The result is a machine that provides customers a wider array of operating features, technologies and configurations.

The cab design offers excellent all-round visibility, making working easier and safer for the operator. High comfort is also claimed, while the machine benefits from the latest ergonomic controls to minimise operator fatigue. The technology packages meanwhile help to optimise productivity and finish quality, as well as ease of use, allowing inexperienced operators to deliver precision working. Caterpillar’s prototype grader represents a new generation

HYUNDAI’S HIGH PERFORMING DOZER Hyundai Construction Equipment claims that its powerful midweight dozer delivers best-in-class power and tractive effort, precise grading and a range of smart technologies.

The new HD130 offers fully electrohydraulic controls and 2D blade dozing assist function as standard. It also has a narrow nose with inline pre-cleaner and large windows for high visibility, as well as a 117kW engine providing best-in-class power output. The tilting cab allows access to major driveline components while the durable undercarriage offers long service life Power comes from a proven Perkins 4.4litre diesel, delivering 710Nm of torque. An Eco Mode can be selected for lighter grading duties, lowering the hydraulic pump power output and reducing fuel consumption by 5%. Auto idle and auto shutdown features help to reduce fuel use over the working shift. There are two six-way power-tilt angle dozer options. A 3.54m3 XL blade is standard, while a 4.18m3 capacity LGP blade is available as an option.

Hyundai’s new mid-sized dozer offers high performance

A two-way mechanical adjustment also allows the operator to set the blade pitch, from 540 to 580.

The HD130A has an operating weight of 15.3tonnes with the LGP blade, and 14.5tonnes in XL configuration. Electrohydraulic controls are standard in the HD130A, to meet the needs of all

operator skill levels. Ergonomicallydesigned joysticks, with integral armrests, deliver low effort control for minimum fatigue.

The HD130A is equipped with Hyundai’s Hi MATE remote management system as standard.

Using GPS satellite technology, this telematic monitoring system

provides customers with real-time machine operating data, including location information. It promotes timely service and maintenance and enables dealers to provide the highest level of customer support and aftercare.

PRODUCTIVE LOADING FROM HITACHI Hitachi says that its latest ZW-7 wheeled loaders offer high productivity and output. The firm says that its wheeled loaders are fitted with protective safety features and high-comfort cabs.

High performance and efficiency are claimed, with uptime due to durable components and easy maintenance.

Stage V-compliant engines power the ZW180-7 and ZW310-7 wheeled loaders, which benefit from all-round visibility and sophisticated systems. Good visibility to the rear and either side of the narrow engine hood are claimed. A camera system also provides a 270° view of the jobsite, while a rear obstacle detection and warning system provides an alert if anything is close to the rear of the machine.

The ZW-7 wheeled loaders feature some of the lowest noise and vibration levels and spacious cabs. The controls include electric pilot control levers, a new monitor and side switch panel.

Other benefits include low total cost of ownership and efficiency for the ZW310-7, and fuel economy and versatility for the ZW180-7. High productivity is provided by fast cycle times, high breakout and loading capacity,

Stage 3 for Bell graders Bell will start production later this year of its motor graders for Stage 3 markets after years of research, development and having prototypes onsite. Jeremiah Mokhomo, Bell Equipment product manager, explained that the Tier 3 range consists of three base models, each available in either a 4WD or 6WD configuration. The G140 is well-suited to all maintenance and light to medium construction tasks. The G160, with its increased power and performance, is designed to handle heavy construction applications, while the G200 is designed for bulk earthworks and the mining industry.

“From the outset, we factored in the requirements of a six-wheel drive configuration,” said Mokhomo. “This early integration, as opposed to trying to add it to the platform later, means a better-performing, more controllable and robust machine that is easier to maintain. The significant improvement

and improved acceleration on inclines.

Engine speed is increased automatically due to the auto power up function, which maintains travel speed when moving uphill. Fast and efficient

Bell motor graders are powered by Cummins engines paired with ZF transmissions. The Bell G140 is fitted with a 6.7litre Cummins engine and ZF ERGOPOWER transmission while the larger G160 and G200 are driven by a 9litre Cummins engine with the ZF cPOWER transmission.

Additionally, the engines are Stage 3A certified; do not require exhaust gas recirculation (EGR); and are compatible with both hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and B20 biodiesel.

Bell said that Stage 5 graders will be launched in due course and will meet the EU and US emission regulations.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION

SIMEX ASPHALT REGENERATION Simex has released the new GEN II version of its ART 1000 patented technology for in-situ regeneration of deteriorated asphalt.

Simex ART technology focuses on surface improvements to address road deterioration. It uses existing materials and does not require the removal of milled material or the addition of virgin bituminous mix. It avoids the interruption of vehicular traffic, ensuring the road is passable immediately after restoration.

During milling, the equipment uses an eco-friendly chemical rejuvenator to cold-recycle the bituminous aggregate produced.

Specifically, ART consists of

two drums: the first for milling and mixing, and the second for crushing and disintegration.

While working, the ART 1000 mills the deteriorated road section and injects measured quantities of rejuvenators to match working depth and carrier speed. It reduces the milled material to the correct grain size and then mixes the materials, leaving the recycled bituminous mix ready for compaction. After regeneration, the bituminous mix is deposited into the milled track and is ready to be levelled and compacted with a roller or vibrating plate.

Pave smart with Vögele

A sprayer for Latin America SECMAIR has developed its TOPSPRAYER LA model to meet the needs of customers in Latin America. This machine has been designed for handling tack coat and surface dressing duties.

Compatible with most European or American trucks, the TOPSRAYER LA units are designed, manufactured and tested in the firm’s French workshops and then adapted to the trucks onsite by local partners.

Featuring an 8,000litre tank, the machine is equipped as standard with a 4.8m foldable spraybar, a hand lance, a direct heating system and an onboard computer with cabin control station. SECMAIR says that the design offers a combination of efficiency, precision and robustness.

The first TOPSRAYER LA units are already in service on the roads of Mexico, Peru and Chile. These units have been introduced as SECMAIR is developing its presence in Colombia with a reach across Latin America from Mexico to Chile through local partners.

AutoTrac automatic steering and width control system for pavers can relieve users, increase work safety and boost efficiency.

This is just one example of how Vögele is automating numerous control functions.

Other examples are the Vögele Edge Control guide wire follower, the fixed screed width, the new Edge Detection edge follower and the tried-and-tested Steering Control automatic steering system. Using various sensors and physical references, users can automatically control width and direction in this way. With Smart Pave, Vögele is introducing the

next level of automation. The integrated system controls the paving width, position and direction of the paver fully automatically using virtual references.

Smart Pave uses verified installation geometries that have been stored in the digital platform, the John Deere Operations Center.

Meanwhile, the StarFire-Dual Antenna System determines the exact position of the paver, ensuring highly accurate control.

heavy compactors.

Birds-Eye View (BEV) is a fully integrated camera system with a surround-view feature. It helps operators detect objects

and avoid collisions on the jobsite. BEV is built into the HMI display, which rotates with the operator’s seat – offering unmatched usability and visibility compared to competitors.

The operator can choose from three views (front/rear/ top). The solution also offers an optional trajectory overlay, which displays the drum edges as virtual lines into the camera view. The display is similar to that of a passenger vehicle that is moving in reverse.

An additional operating feature is Safe Brake Assist (SBA), an active safety assistant system designed to prevent collisions on the jobsite.

SBA continuously measures the distance between the machine and potential obstacles. It also integrates machine movement data to identify hazards that could be in the machine’s path. Brakes are automatically applied if a collision is imminent.

SBA is particularly helpful on crowded jobsites and in poor weather, such as fog or rain, when visibility can be diminished.

The AOC, first announced in 2022, is a collaboration of multinational companies, including Ammann, from varied industries. The group is developing a common software platform that will ultimately result in machine autonomy.

DYNAPAC’S NEW ELECTRIC PAVER Dynapac is offering a new all-electric asphalt paver, the SD25 80C e. The firm claims that compared to diesel-powered machines, the new generation electric paver is more energy efficient. It also ensures improved air quality and up to 20% noise emission reduction, a key benefit for use in urban sites. The new SD and XD paver models are designed to have alternative drive options, with the SD25 80C e the first derivate of an emission-free portfolio.

The Dynapac SD25 80C e is equipped with a 294kWh battery, using proven technology from the SD1800W e City Paver. The machine offers up to 235kW of power from five electric motors and can pave continuously for up to 8 hours.

Loading and delivery of materials As new mix is weighed, the system captures and transmits the appropriate delivery data to the truck driver and the construction team. The communication works both ways: The mixing plant receives real-time information about the truck locations.

Paving and compaction Crews know the temperature of the mix at each stage, from production through compaction.

Smart Compact Pro heralds the dawn of a new era of asphalt compaction for construction companies and operators

GO PRO WITH HAMM’S COMPACT PRO With Smart Compact Pro, Hamm says that it has a tool that will significantly improve the service life of roads. At the same time, it will also dramatically reduce the costs borne by the contractor.

As such, Smart Compact Pro heralds the dawn of a new

era of asphalt compaction for construction companies and operators.

Meanwhile, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure operations on construction sites are monitored, documented and analysed.

With Track Assist and WPT Compacting, Hamm is presenting two new solutions that efficiently meet the needs of roller drivers, construction managers and site managers.

The new Marini Evodryer Plus plant is said to offer customers a sophisticated plant capable of handling high percentages of up to 70% RAP in the feed, while featuring just one drum. This slots into the range between the more complex and costly parallel drum plants able to handle up to 80% RAP in the feed, and the simpler existing units with just one drum that can handle up to 60% RAP in the feed.

The key to the plant is the way the hot gas generator is integrated into the single drum. “It’s a completely different concept,” said a company spokesperson.

The firm says that this advanced asphalt production system allows up to 70% RAP usage without compromising on product quality. The plant suits medium-large production volumes with high RAP content but with just one drum, the plant is less costly to buy, has lower fuel costs and is simpler to maintain than sophisticated parallel drum plants.

Heavy duty from Ammann’s Light Roller Ammann’s eARX 26-2 Light Tandem Roller features a fully electric drive that can operate for up to 10 hours without recharging.

While categorised as a ‘light’ machine, the compactor actually has an operating weight of 2,640kg. “To have a fully electric machine of this size is a breakthrough,” said Vlasta Medek, Ammann’s global commercial manager for heavy compaction.

Because it is not a combustion engine, the eARX 26-2 is extremely quiet during operation. Sound levels reaching the operator station are 46% less than a diesel version.

The powertrain concept eliminates almost all hydraulic components. The ecological impact is also lessened – and total ownership costs significantly reduced – by replacing the diesel engine and its cooling system.

A key point is the advanced 48V battery pack with a capacity of 600Ah (31.5kWh). The pack’s LiFePO4 technology has each internal battery cell independently protected, so the entire pack is flame-resistant which increases safety.

Doing so was time-consuming and required shutting down the paver.

Low-temperature asphalt The VDTA-V is ideal for the challenges presented when paving with low temperature asphalt (LTA). The doubletamper system addresses LTA’s tight compaction window by striking the material twice, a process the VDTA-V screed makes significantly easier.

Because tamper changes were so challenging, crews often compensated in other ways, such as tweaking tamper speed. But this was imprecise, impacted the paver’s behaviour, and sometimes created additional problems, such as increased wear.

Each of the VDTA-V’s screed sections can be adjusted independently, from a range of 0,5mm to 10mm.

Sectional adjustments are important when paving curved roads and roundabouts.

VERSATILE SLIPFORMING Versatility and manoeuvrability are key features of Wirtgen’s new SP 33 concrete slipformer. This machine is available in both Offset and Crosspave versions.

BIG DEAL WITH AMMANN’S eABG 4820 PAVER The new eABG 4820 electric drive paver from Ammann is currently the largest electric paver on the market, according to the company. It recently placed 1,200tonnes of asphalt in a day, while at the same time reducing CO2 emissions by 70%.

The paver uses a Variomatic screed and works at widths up to 6.5m. Paving output is 500tonnes/ hour and maximum paving speed is 20m/minute. The hopper has a capacity of 12.7tonnes.

Ammann says that the tracked paver is a perfect match for jobsites with restrictions on sound and emissions. It has excelled on the placement of wear, binder and base courses on streets and parking lots.

Importantly, the paver has enough battery power to last an entire shift, regardless of the geography or the type of paving.

Improved PMB plant Italian firm Massenza has carried out an extensive redesign of its PMB plant line-up.

The new generation of PMB plants from the firm includes three models, the compact Smart model, the medium-sized Klever and the top-of-the-range Super Klever.

The Smart model is designed for customers that need lower quantities of PMBs and want to make a relatively modest investment. Increased output is produced by the medium Klever unit while the Super Klever offers the greatest output as well as a range of intelligent features. The firm says that its three-model range meets the demands of all road contractors and most resellers and/or oil companies.

An array of improvements and modifications have been carried out, boosting performance over the previous models. A key feature is that the mixers now have a circular section, reducing the risk of bitumen/polymer residues on the mixer walls and increasing polymer dispersion. The mixers have an automatic heating system that provides better temperature control, preventing overheating and saving energy.

High shear mills are placed in the central part of the plant, allowing a more compact design and easier maintenance. In addition, the Klever model can also be upgraded to a

Super without any modification to the skid once the plant is onsite. A bigger motor is fitted for the mill feed pump, which boosts performance and means that there is more power for production of materials with high polymer percentages. The new control room is equipped with thermal and acoustic insulation as well as a heat pump for heating/ cooling, which provides more comfort for the plant operator. The plants also have reduced dimensions, allowing them to be shipped in a standard container.

All plants can be equipped with a number of options, such as a polymer big-bags emptying systems, various liquid additives dosing and loading systems and a solid additive microbatch screw feeder.

The first plants of this new generation have already been supplied and commissioned in Saudi Arabia and Romania.

Other units are under construction for clients located in the Middle East, Europe and South America.

Fuel cells use a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen in the atmosphere, to generate electricity, with the only emission being water vapour.

The fuel cell delivers power to drive electric motors or electrically-driven hydraulic pumps. The project to develop a fuel cell for the HW155H has been a cooperation between Hyundai Construction Equipment and Hyundai Motor Company, which has a range of powertrain

solutions for the automotive segment. Two cells have been designed, delivering 30kW and 50kW, with the HW155H using a combination of fuel cells to provide 70-100kW. These fuel cells would suit a range of machines, including the 15tonne wheeled excavator.

Electric wheeled excavator innovation Develon is unveiling its prototype BEV Zero-Emission 14tonne wheeled excavator, which is still in development. The machine is aimed at use in urban work and the firm plans to develop a lineup of various BEV products.

The DX140WRE is intended to be the world’s first massproduced medium-sized wheeled excavator that can work for more than 8 hours on a single charge.

This will allow it to be a replacement for conventional internal combustion engine machines. It has been designed to be able to perform a full day’s work on a single charge, without the need for additional charging.

The battery capacity has been selected and installed on the machine to meet this purpose.

The HW155H uses the fuel cell to power an electric motor, that then drives the hydraulic system. The hydrogen storage on board has the capacity to allow a full eight hours of operation, with refuelling taking 10-20 minutes.

Hyundai’s high-density storage system can double the capacity of a conventional hydrogen tank, using a lower filling pressure, optimising space within the machine, reducing fill times and improving site safety.

The HW155H offers an operating speed and power similar to that of a conventional diesel-powered excavator, with all-day useability.

The firm is also unveiling a novel mobile refuelling solution.

Komatsu Europe is launching a static pulveriser, rotating pulveriser and demolition crusher - the latest additions to the Komatsu’s attachments range. Short cycle times are achieved by using large hydraulic components for maximised oil flow and a custom-made speed valve. On the mechanical side, the main areas of focus are strength and wear resistance. Exceptional performance is achieved by using Strenx 960 for the main structure, Hardox for protection plates and the use of alu-bronze bushings on the main hinge. Earlier, Komatsu introduced the sorting and demolition grapples, which have already proven to be valuable assets for the industry. Versatility for new wheeled excavator ATLAS claims that its latest wheeled excavator has been redesigned and now benefits from increased power, boosting performance. The 135Wsr has a tail swing radius of only 1,620mm, a swing torque of 40kNm, and a slew speed of 9rpm. The 135Wsr weighs from 13.9-15.2tonnes with its Deutz diesel meeting the Stage V emissions requirements and it delivers 95kW at 2000rpm, providing a traction of 82kN, a top speed of 35km/h and good off-road mobility. In addition, it is highly fuel-efficient.

The 135Wsr features an integrated engine oil level sensor while refueling is now done from the ground without the need to access the excavator, which can now also be operated using synthetic fuels.

A central lubrication point supplies lubrication for the upper carriage and arm equipment; as an option, a fully automated version of the

central lubrication is available. As an option, the 135Wsr can be fitted with the first split dozer blade made

by ATLAS. As the two halves of the blade can be moved independently, it adapts to uneven surfaces. For more flexibility, the machine is available with an outrigger for confined work areas and is also the first ATLAS excavator with all-wheel steering and crab steering.

The new model also has an advanced cab design with 360° visibility, which provides the operator with an unobstructed view for higher safety and more efficient operation. The efficient cab ventilation can keep the operator comfortable, providing clean air at the right temperature. The cab is designed to keep noise levels low, with soundproofing providing a quieter workplace for the operator.

HYUNDAI CEE LAUNCHES ITS FIRST BATTERY ELECTRIC MINI EXCAVATOR Hyundai Construction Equipment Europe is launching the HX19e, its first battery electric mini excavator.

The new model weighs in at 2,296kg when equipped with a full cab and large-capacity battery pack.

Hyundai CEE says the compact machine will provide the ideal digging solution for urban utilities, landscaping and gardening, tunnel and basement excavation and for many local authority tasks, such as cemeteries and sports facilities.

The HX19e will be offered with a choice of two lithium-ion battery packs, delivering 32kWh and 40kWh capacity, which is claimed to be almost double the capacity

of some competitor machines.

The 40kWh battery will allow customers to work for up to 6.7 hours between charges, with a break time top-up delivering full shift useability. The machine is equipped with a widely used Type 2 connector, allowing customers to use existing EV charging infrastructure.

The machines are made in Germany by KTEG and these include the KTEG 390HR, which is based on a Hitachi ZX350, and equipped with an extendable undercarriage, additional counterweight and tiltable demolition cab. The fixed mounted 23m high reach boom allows an attachment weight of 3.5tonnes.

INNOVATIVE TOWER CRANES Liebherr is offering an innovative addition to its range of luffing jib cranes, with the introduction of the 620 HC-L 18/36 mode. This has been designed with a maximum lifting capacity of 18tonnes in one-fall operation, and up to 36tonnes in two-fall operation, as well as a jib length of 65m. Its new Load-Plus function means that lifting capacity can be increased by up to 76% for specific load charts.

Its compatibility with the 24 HC 630 tower system allows the 620 HC-L to achieve a freestanding height of up to 74.3m. Using existing tower sections saves on purchase costs and increases flexibility in terms of site planning. The 440 HC-L also uses the same tower system, meaning that both HC-L cranes can be assembled using the same tower sections. This optimised tower design also makes it possible to avoid complex building tie-ins, which speeds up construction.

With an out of service position of just 12m and a minimal operating position of just 4.1m, the 620 HC-L requires very little space. This makes it ideal for inner-city construction sites and projects where only limited space is available. Its compact design makes site planning a great deal easier and allows several cranes to be operated efficiently in tight conditions.

The 620 HC-L also offers faster assembly. Ready to use hoist and luffing ropes are provided already wound on the drum, reducing set-up time onsite.

Transport costs are optimised with only 10 transport units being needed at full radius, including counter-ballast. The crane’s central switchgear cabinet and electrical and mechanical quick connections ensure simple and time-efficient set-up.

Caterpillar is expanding its range of ultra-high demolition (UHD) excavators with the introduction of the new 330 UHD model.

Standard features for the 330 UHD include the Stability Monitoring System with light and sound indicators in the cab on the ultra-high front, as well as the Cat Payload and Cat Grade Control with 2D packages. SAFER MACHINE OPERATION WITH XWATCH Xwatch says that its upgraded package will help boost safety onsite.

The firm says that its new system is simpler, more intuitive and easier to adopt compared to its predecessor. Installation takes 30% less time and the new system is more adaptable and user-friendly, reducing downtime for plant hire companies and contractors.

The solution retains the capabilities of the earlier version, including height and slew restriction, Rated Capacity Indicator (RCI), and the full suite of Xwatch safety features across the XW1, XW2, XW3, XW4, and XW5 models.

Improvements include the novel proportional motion control when driving electric over hydraulic valve blocks (pat. pending), a significant breakthrough in precision and efficiency. Graphics have been reworked, for a more visually friendly and intuitive monitor interface in various languages.

The MK2 version is also telematics-ready for connected construction sites and is more compact, freeing up in-cab space.

WIRTGEN TRACKS PERFORMANCE WPT Paving - the Wirtgen Group Performance Tracker for road construction - enables precise paving and site documentation. The system uses basic paving data such as section length, layer type, layer thickness and material density to calculate the amount of material already laid and compares it with the planned target values.

The delivery of material can be recorded quickly and easily and additional relevant data such as CO2 emissions and fuel consumption can be mapped.

For years, the area in front of wheeled loaders has been considered an area of major concern in terms of safety. With the Develon transparent bucket function, however, the driver can easily check the blind spots in front of the bucket via the cab monitor, to increase safety and prevent accidents.

The new version of the system - Transparent Bucket 2.0 - has all of the functionality of the original system, but now offers Object Detection (OD) and Object Recognition. The OD function again uses AI technology to synthesise a red triangular exclamation mark in the centre of the object and display it on the monitor alerting the driver when an object is detected.

Hydrogen power JCB Powertrain has developed a working combustion engine fuelled by hydrogen with the firm’s team of 150 engineers working on the £100 million project for over three years.

The company has already produced more than 130 evaluation engines which are powering backhoe loaders, Loadall telescopic handlers and generator sets.

The hydrogen engine will also be suitable for applications across many industry sectors. The company is also offering a complete JCB Powertrain model. This complete driveline package, based

around the company’s popular 448 Stage V engine, is available to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) as a single unit, or as individual components, to suit specific machine requirements.

JCB has secured rulings from 11 licensing authorities across Europe allowing the engines to be used commercially in machines. Real-world testing of JCB’s hydrogen equipment on customers’ sites is now at an advanced stage.

CUMMINS NEXT-GEN X15 Cummins’ Next Generation X15 engine for off-highway applications is a scaled model of the QSK60 engine for mining.

The X15 powers applications such as large construction bulldozers, cranes and excavators and is part of the Cummins HELM fuel agnostic engine platform. The platform’s new power solutions can use clean diesel, natural gas, renewable biofuels or hydrogen to ensure compatibility with evolving environmental regulations while supporting customer requirements during the energy transition.

The X15 will offer digital connectivity features, improved fuel economy and longer service intervals from its predecessor - all in a smaller package similar to that of a 13litre engine. Ratings for the X15 will be up to 522kW and a peak torque of 3200Nm, targeted for Stage V emissions and beyond.

E6 AT THE CUTTING EDGE OF TUNNELLING Element Six and Master Drilling have produced a synthetic diamond-enabled tunnelling solution to reduce more than 17% in waste rock generation compared to traditional operations.

Element Six is a developer of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) and ultra-hard materials, while Master Drilling is a provider of mechanised rock and tunnelling excavation solutions. E6’s rotatable disc cutter system, which features E6’s PCD cutting edges, can be mounted on tool holders around the disc’s periphery. This allows for both horizontal and vertical cutting.

It works in tandem with a rock breaker tool to efficiently cut and break rock formations.

The companies said that the solution increases tunnelling development speed, reduces costs and minimises environmental impact, with over 17% less waste rock generation.

Laboratory and field-pilot trials have demonstrated the cutting disc system’s ability to cut and break various types of concrete and hard rock, such as granite, chromite and limestone, with compressive strengths up to 350 MPa. The system achieved an advance rate of up to 60m/hour - with or without coolant.

The latest 29.5R25 from the firm Is said to be both durable and long-lasting, delivering effective traction in tough working conditions. The tyre features a 3-Star Rating TL559S+ L5 and is said to be designed for wheeled loaders operating in both surface and underground applications.

This three-star rated tyre can cope with heavier loads than its two-star counterpart, offering greater impact

resistance, wear performance and load capacity. Featuring deep, robust treads, the TL559S+ is ideal for severe applications.

The new tyre is being made available as the firm boosts its position in the European market.
