Beyond Mobility, Connected World This year’s ITS World Congress theme, Beyond Mobility, Connected World, captures the event’s ambition. Ettifos designs V2X for the long haul
R
oadside infrastructure is built to last. The technology inside it should be, too. Yet, as Ettifos points out, a roadside unit (RSU) deployed today can be constrained by the capabilities it was designed with at installation. As cellular vehicle to everything (C-V2X) standards develop and new connected-vehicle applications emerge, upgrading infrastructure can become difficult – or require the replacement of hardware altogether. Ettifos is addressing this challenge with its ESAC RSU, built around the company’s proprietary Ettifos Sirius Accelerator Chip. Launched in 2026, the ESAC RSU is designed to support current C-V2X communication standards, with the flexibility to support future standards through a simple software update. The objective
is to make roadside infrastructure adaptable. As standards, protocols and applications evolve, capabilities can be introduced through software, helping operators extend hardware lifecycles, reduce disruption and protect long-term infrastructure investments. This approach is particularly relevant as C-ITS deployments scale from individual projects to connected corridors and networks. At this year’s ITS World Congress, the South Korean company will highlight this approach on home soil, showcasing its ESAC RSU alongside its broader portfolio of V2X solutions. This includes Ettifos’ compact, Build America, Buy America Act (BABA)-compliant aftermarket device, V2X-AIR, alongside its conventional Theus OBU and RSU solutions. tudio Galilei will showcase its MaaS Information Platform (MIP) in Gangneung, demonstrating how demand-responsive transport (DRT) and multimodal mobility services can be made accessible without requiring passengers to download a dedicated mobility app. Designed as a physical access point to digital mobility services, MIP enables users to access transport information and DRT services directly from an on-site terminal. MIP brings together public transport and DRT information in a single interface, allowing passengers to access transport information and book, check and manage DRT trips. Accessibility-oriented features, including a lowered-screen mode and voice guidance, are designed to make digital mobility services easier to use for a wider range of passengers. The platform can connect transport services with local tourism and destination information, extending its role beyond that of a conventional passenger information kiosk. Jinwoo ATS showcases AI-driven safety solutions
J
inwoo ATS, a specialist in smart transportation and communication infrastructure, will showcase two artificial intelligence (AI)-driven systems at its stand, alongside a tolling demonstration in the outdoor technology area. The company’s AI-based Road Icing Control System prevents black-ice accidents by detecting and managing icing and fog in real-time. Using AI cameras, proprietary

sensors and weather-centre data, the system automatically activates flashing lights, LED signs and brine sprayers, and dispatches personnel when risks are identified. The company will also demonstrate AIWalk, an integrated smart crosswalk system that enhances safety in child protection zones and areas prone to right-turn collisions. AI cameras monitor pedestrians on the crosswalk, vehicles on the road and people on the

pavement, feeding real-time alerts to display boards for drivers and pedestrians, helping to prevent unexpected incidents. WiFive’s spot-on positioning, even without GPS
W
iFive, a research institute developing advanced indoor positioning and navigation technologies, will showcase BLE Clober (Cross-shape LOcation BEacon Radio). This multi-directional Bluetooth lowenergy beacon was originally designed to pinpoint smartphone users’ location and movement direction indoors. Traditional beacons emit a single omnidirectional signal and measure only distance, limiting accuracy to 10–50m. In contrast, BLE Clober radiates distinct signals from each of its directional antennas, allowing a single beacon to achieve accuracy at 2–3m. WiFive offers the complete solution – beacons, the Clober server, and the smartphone app, as well as individual components.

In GPS-denied tunnels, BLE Clober tracks location and speed in real-time for navigation. Data is relayed to the tunnel management centre, which detects incidents and delivers drivers optimised evacuation routes during emergencies. A testbed is installed in operational tunnels, and a pilot with a navigation app provider is underway. Beyond navigation, the system also operates in indoor parking garages. WiFive provides an integrated system that guides drivers to available spaces, records parking positions for easy vehicle retrieval, and manages entry gate access via smartphone.
