PrimaLoft technology enables your favorite products and gear to perform at the highest level. Designed for protection and comfort, PrimaLoft® insulation delivers lightweight warmth, even in wet conditions.

The majority of PrimaLoft® products use recycled materials to produce lightweight synthetic fibers that create insulations that are durable, soft, packable, and easy to care for. 88% of products are made using 50% or greater recycled content, and 70% of products are made with 100% recycled content.

1984

The U.S. Army approached Albany International, our former parent company, to develop a waterresistant synthetic alternative to down.

1986

The New York Times ran an article, “The Army may have Matched the Goose” highlighting the new synthetic insulation.

And consumer brands took notice...

After one year of research and development, in 1984 we patented the first synthetic microfiber for apparel, and PrimaLoft was born.

1990

2006

L.L.Bean and Polo Ralph Lauren become the first brands to make PrimaLoft available to consumers.

Introduction of high-performance insulation made from recycled materials.

PrimaLoft® insulated jackets were part of the layering system L.L.Bean used to outfit the Mt. Everest Peace Climb led by Jim Whittaker, who became the first-ever American to summit Everest in 1963.
