The Estate of Lyn Jansen

he Lyn Jansen collection represents over 40 years of meticulous collecting. The core of Lyn’s collection is represented by outstanding examples of figural Staffordshire animals. Purchased primarily from some of England’s top specialists to include John Howard, Andrew Dando and numerous other BADA specialists. The collection shows some of the rarest examples available on the market, ranging from the mid 18th century on, into the 19th century. Lyn’s penchant for figurative objects extended to match safes and holders, still banks, inkwells and wood carvings. A fairly extensive offering of Canadian scenic pottery will be offered including a rare arctic scene example. The furniture selection crosses many collecting boundaries to include fine Canadiana examples, traditional formal along with European carved oak in various forms. The sale is filled with rare, unusual objects, and curiosities - this sale is not to be missed. WORCESTER PORCELAIN TEAPOT England circa 1770, the globular shaped body with lobed panels decorated with cobalt sprays of flowerheads & foliage, the entwined organic inspired handle, spout and lid decorated with gilt accents, the lid with early staple conservation, the underside sowing blue underglaze oriental type mark, measuring 5.5” high x 7.75” wide from spout to handle. The decoration is very much in the manner of works by Worcester porcelain artist James Giles, working at Worcester 1771-1774. Estimation 400-600 $

185 CANADIAN MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK BY SAVAGE Montreal Canada, circa 1835, the highly figured mahogany case showing a hood with a carved crestrail decorated with brass finials and barley twist columns, over a glazed arched door and glazed side panels (one cracked) fronting a brass face (from the late 1700s, would have been silvered, probably made in Liverpool, England), and chapter ring with Roman numerals and pierced sweep hands, together with its maker’s plaque for Savage of Montreal. The eightday weight driven movement and pendulum remain intact, retaining what appears to be its original pendulum. The mechanism is currently nonfunctioning at the time of cataloguing. It has an automated Scottish soldier who would rock from side to side – currently broken but can be repaired. Measuring 89” high x 20.5” wide x 10.5” deep. George Savage (1767-1845) of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England, immigrated to Montreal, Canada, with his family circa 1818, after working as a silversmith/watchmaker for some years in Yorkshire.
